The State Intelligence Bureau of the Nigeria Police was expected to question Tunde Bakare, a fiery Lagos pastor and political activist, this morning.

This followed an invitation letter, seen by SaharaReporters, which was sent to Pastor Bakare's church address on June 26.

Signed by CSP Usman Ayuba, the "invitation" followed an explosive sermon delivered by Pastor Bakare, who is also a top member of the Save Nigeria Group (SNG), on Sunday June 17. In it, he described President Goodluck Jonathan’s destiny as being “to bankrupt Nigeria," amongst other issues, in relation to the $6.8 billion oil subsidy scam.

A few days after the sermon was given, and following another press conference by the SNG in Lagos in which Pastor Bakare commented on the culpability of Mr. Otedola in the bribery scandal rocking the House of Representatives, Mr. Otedola’s lawyers fired a letter demanding retraction of the comments.

Pastor Bakare, according to his aides, is currently traveling outside Nigeria. It is unclear if the police plan to snatch him at the airport upon his return.

The pastor’s critical SNG has had the government in an uncomfortable stare-down before. In December 2010, the group visited President Jonathan in Abuja in connection with its advocacy of certain national policies.

On its way out of the presidential villa, the group was handed a $50,000 bribe, which it refused. The embarrassed government explained that the money was not a bribe, but “transport fare.”
Pastor Bakare subsequently ran for vice-president on the ticket of the Congress for Progressive Change. As pastor or political activist, he has always strongly criticized anti-people policies.

I can't understand why false prophets, red-eyed scum and murderers like Bakare are allowed to walk around as free men. angry

That is the same bastard who is caught on video (NN24 presidential debates) promising a "wild-wild North" and urging people to go to polling stations with matches in one hand and kerosine in the other. We now know how many people died.

This man that calls himself a pastor is a warmonger. Is inciting people part of his calling? Let him learn from Oyedepo,Adeboye,Kumuyi and co.

Sahara Reporters have come again with this Political pastor. I don't even know who to believe between SHARAREPORTERS OF LIES(SHOPRITE OF LIES) and Tunde Bakare. Police is looking for him? When and where? Is Tunde Bakare hard to find? I don't think the govt has time for Tunde Bakare. GEJ said it on Sunday that sworn critics can go ahead with verbal attacks against him. After all, it's big Business and talk is cheap.

People, can't you see the connection? Saharareporters,el rufai,Bakare, ayittey ,momodu, etc. these are all frustrated people who would have le us have each if they were in Aso rock. The truth is that the are now peddling everything they can to their gullible followers and as you can see, the s.t.up.id professor has been given the audacity to insult all of us. By calling our president a lunatic,he has called us all lunatics, including the idi...ots that encouraged the insult on our nation and sovereignty. We should tell his president to caution him and for Bakare, he is not a pastor....we know the ones that are pastors. He has compromised his faith, yes,a long time ago!

Nice one. No one should be spared, no sacred cows, pastor or immam. If he's found guilty of treasonable felony he should face the full wart of the law. This is what happens when people out of sheer greed decide to incite unsuspecting/uninformed citizens against a constitutionally elected government.

Somebody should tell this man to either choose between pastor work and politics. He is just being very controversial. "To bankrupt Nigeria sermon" who knows the kind of falsehood he would hve dished out to his congregation?

If I were to ask what is really happening, there's a plot to bring down this administration by some desperate politicians who would stop at nothing to make sure this regime does not perform,at this time it is very clear that these are PAID distractors who have been hired to tarnish the image of the president and in doing this they have put their selfish interests ahead of the welfare of the Nigerian people, are not ready to stop these people have vowed to make sure the president does not deliver on the campaign promises and good agenda which he has.

Fellow Nairalanders I crave ur indulgence to collectively fight this enemies of state, who don't want us to enjoy Peace and Stability in this our beloved country, whatever their race, religion or political affiliation,we can't let them destabilise this country,we have had enough bloodshed and unneccesary chaos to tolerate more.Enough is Enough,Tunde Bakare should go in for comments that are capable instigating violence.

I would have voted for Bakare.
Better someone I know who understands "accountability after life" to rule a nation than one who may not be all that interested in what comes after this life.

When he lands, he should be taken off of the plane, dragged through the airport like a common crook (which he is) so everyone can see him as an example and driven off in a Black Maria in the full glare of the Public.. If he resists, any Police man with a 9mm Beretta or even an AK-47 service rifle should hit him in the face with the butt of the gun.. Then he should be taken and thrown in Jail with hardened criminal (preferably the Boko Haram suspects) for 24hrs.. Then he should be Questioned and charged to court for slander, conspiracy to incite violence and defamation of character..

Its time to start teaching these fools how to talk... Thats how every year during Obasanjos Regime, this faaggot kept predicting the death of the President..

Time to show him that he isnt above the law and God cant save him when the government comes for him..

I wonder why some people support mediocrity. The problem with Nigeria lies in the national assembly and Aso Rock. This government creates policies that favours the rich and desecrates the poor and yet people talk so good about Johnathan. A govt that is so weak against the strong and strong against the weak can not be trusted. If we all keep quiet - who will speak for us?

It is the end of time, so am not surprised at the so called man of god. Even the bible said it, that there will be false prophets at the end of time.
I am surprised that people still go to his church, it is so amazing. What has a man of God got to do with politics, has he finished spreading the good news, that he was sent to do. When a manor God, join hands with those that will go at any length to see innocent blood been shed, you should know that evil is on the rampage. May God save us from this people oooo

which argument hve you made apart from chasing shadows and leaving the real issues? If Pastor Bakare were to be your pastor, would you be confident to entrust him with the task of meeting your spiritual needs in the light of his recent unguarded utterances. Can you confidently meet Bakare as your pastor to pray over any spiritual challenge that you hve? This man keeps loosing it and you guys keep pushing him on with your folly. C.A.N and other men of God have been praying for God's intervention for security. I have never seen Bakare pray for the end of Boko Haram. All he does is to use Boko haram to score cheap political points by accusing GEJ for it. What does he intend to achieve in all of this? Presidency? Never!

This is what I don't understand. Why one Nigeria. Do you live together by force. Do we have to continue to live together at the detriment of Nigerians Welfare. If spliting Nigeria will increase the welfare of Nigerians so let it be. The people of scotland are preparing for the referedum to seperate from Britain, British government doesn't roll out armoured tank to prevent them. Unity of Nigeria should be for the benefit of the Nigerians not at all cost and to our detriment.

@dedeike: See as you just exposed yourself! Did oyb direct his comments at you?

@oyb: I tire - Apart from Beaf and a handful of predictable gladiators on NL, the Forum has been a spike of new registrants who are bleeding GEJ! It is unbelievable.

When a cluless govt talks about job creation, we now know what they mean! cheesy

@OP: Bakare will turn the Police questioners into mince meat - Ask Akilu and IBB's boys.

If Bakare made that statement in China, but now he would have been imprisoned. Political leaders must at all cost strive to Unite and not disintegrate. Bakare is using his Church as a political rallying point and needs to be shutdown, Freedom of Speech has limitations in every democracy....
