I don't know why Billyonaire is swallowing panadol for another man's headache. The PDP candidate is soldiering on with the election, he certainly doesn't see it as a fatal setback to his ambitions. Why are you whining here? As Dayokanu has repeatedly tried to educate you, everywhere electoral votes and endorsements are sought with fervour. That's why religious leaders would be courted by Obama and Romney, exactly why Governors make political statements, exactly why influential blacks, rabbis and hispanic leaders are being courted. There is no law barring anyone who can sway votes from making pronouncements. Tell me, was it then 'illegal' and 'unconstitutional' for GEJ to campaign for votes for Dickson of Bayelsa and Ohakim of imo state? nyabingi: The PDP government brought this whole bullshit to themselves, the party was meant to be a model political party in Africa but evil men hijacked it from its original intents, Nigerian people are becoming more and more politically aware and no more fools to be tossed around by political mongers, other parties ACN, ANPP, CPC, APGA, PPA etc are also full of incompetent, corrupt and clueless selfish old men who are not in tune with current global political realities. This of course explains why authorities in the traditional institutions like the Oba of Benin would go into politics since those left to catter for the people are doing it for their own pockets, the question every Edo people should ask PDP is "what did your party do for over 10 years rule in the state" I believe Oshiomole means well for the state and should be given the opportunity to work. The PDP only became the convenient 'solution' that enabled a desperate, vacuous and marauding Military class to hold on to political power by all means when least qualified to do so in changing times that meant "change clothing deceptively or die". The PDP was just simply a platform for Military old boys (IBB, Danjuma, OBJ and many others) to 'reinvent' themselves in the guise of "democrats" when they realised that Governance, for Nigeria, had irretrievably moved on beyond the "good old days" when Guns and a few lads in boots was all any desperado needed to hijack a Nation. That is why, from 1999, the Nigerian Presidency has been limited to the military autocrats (like OBJ) and their deleterious stooges (Yar Adua and GEJ). There is no vacancy for a progressive and pro-Nigerian President in the core ideology of the PDP same as fire will never deliberately attempt to meet water. |

This is another reaons why I said Traditional rulers are obsolete and should be done away with... How on earth does a man who should be neutral take sides in issues such as politics.. In his capacity, he should rather be a watchdog that calls whoever is in government to order and not to allign with one candidate.. The Oba failed on this one.. He may be the Oba but even he should know that with regards to politics, he has his limitations.. His words are very likely to spark violence should Oshiomole lose either by hook or crook.. In the days when the soldiers ran the show, ehn no for fit try this nonsense.. We Nigerians are really either ignorant of what Democracy is all about or not ready for it.. |

?What is our constitutional form of governance in Nigeria. Its called Democracy, I think we should abolish democracy so we can practice Monarchy which we love with a passion. In Monarchy, Obas will reign supreme, in a democracy, its difficult for you to accept it, but the truth is, Obas, have no roles. Am I wrong ? u need to research the cradle of democracy, you will realise that monarchical democracy is the best. what we have in nigeria now is a deficient democracy that is called mob rule, GEJ is recently soft pedalling, he was initially behaving like a village headmaster. |

I agree that, ordinarily, the Oba should stay out of politics. Nonetheless, it will be very difficult for a Patriotic Traditional ruler, in a very pivotal period, to stand silently and watch while a performer who is doing very well is cast aside to be replaced by those who left nothing but corruption and hideous misrule as the only legacy of their previous control of Edo State and are likely only seeking a way back to destroy every gains the State has made. It becomes very difficult for the Oba to remain neutral given the reality of Nigeria where we are ostensibly practising democracy yet the worst marauders always "win". The Oba may, in abnormal times and in an abnormal Nation, just be acting proactively abnormal to protect the good leadership his State is enjoying. Let us not forget the desperation of Anenih and the PDP to capture Edo "by all means". In fact, this election reminds me of the Ekiti rerun Yar Adua insisted the PDP "must win" with GEJ given a pivotal 'bully boy' role he played admirably. We all saw what happened back then with Bankole even nauseatingly singing in public that they will use the Army to beat Ekiti into submission. It was a unison of evil and desperation. We are all aware of GEJ's recent imposition antics in Bayelsa also. Those things stick in the mind and the Oba of Benin is no doubt an intelligent man and a good student of history. In as much as i am totaly in support of the comord Governor Adams, i am not in support of oba playing politices. he is a treditional learder and not a political leader like GEJ. the Oba is a father to all and most not show preference. over one another. politics is a dirty game atleast in Nigeria. he should not use the benin thron for politial gain |

I was born and raised up in Benin but this is a sad story to read. Why? Because a king should never get involved with politics. At least not openly. This is the reason why southwest Obas and south east Obis aint worth much. The Oba of Benin has been the most sacred traditional ruler in Nigeria till date. But with moves like these, all that will soon change. I have nothing against Oshiomole and I think he is a good candidate but the truth about politics is, its a dirty game. IBB and Abacha combined to desecrate tthe Sultanate and it lost its respect. All because of politics. Even Oshiomole cannot be trusted as a politician. He is as dirty a politician as anyone else. This will backfire for the Oba, if not now, then in the future. And he might end up like the Ooni of Ife or Alafin of Oyo who politicians can toss around as they like. |

As a Bini Man I am indeed very proud of My Oba and support his move 100%. Many of you commenting here are not from Edo state and you don't understand the dynamics there. The PDP totally destroyed the state for 10 years. The capital Benin City actually regressed to almost rural status. In the last 4 years Oshimhole has totally reformed the state capital and his showing great strides in the development of the state as a whole. What do you expect the Oba to do? To stay quiet and play neutral? Why should he? He is looking out for his people's welfare. Maybe if more Traditional rulers took similar stands maybe the country would be a better place overall. |

To those of you here wailing that the Oba shouldn't involve himself in politics just becos he had earlier endorsed oshiomole,would you be honestly saying the same assuming he had received the PDP delegation??if he had sat on his throne and allowed the PDP delegation come dancing before him??would you?? If I may ask, what was mr president doing there with the PDP delegation if it wasn't to solicit the Oba's support??someone on this thread has given us so many examples of Parties (PDP in particular) going to visit traditional rulers in other to get their support, and none of u had anything to say abt that..instead all I was reading was 'don't derail the thread'!!!wetin!!!what is good for the goose is good for the gander now!! I am not a bini man but I used to visit benin at least once a month to see my sister who was then a student of uniben during the PDP days, now, am a student of uniben in my fourth year, so I can tell the difference btw the two regimes, Oshiobaba is a good man and I support him, and I guess most of criticising the oba have no idea of the respect his name carries I'm a history student and I can tell you it will take more than GEJ and OBJ to dethrone the Oba, the Oba of bini is one of the most powerful monarchs in Nigeria and his respect goes beyond Nigerian territory..... PDP cannot win Edo state, Lucky has messed PDP up and given Edo state to ACN. Go to Edo State now and see what is happening there and compare to when lucky was in power. Only a fool will vote for PDP. The Oba of Benin hardly speak in political matter. For him to talk shows Oshiomole has impressed him. More surprises are coming in 2015, mark my word. Only the performing PDP candidates will be re-elected. Nigeria don wise now. It is no longer about Party but about candidate and performance. Let's wait and see. |
