dare2think, your skepticism is normal. But i would have said sorry regardless of being in a delirium or not. As you said... certain things are incompatible with the christian faith and that includes pride and ego as you said and both of which i find myself struggling with sometimes. Do we all make mistakes? Yes we do but the beauty of the christian faith is the fact that we find mercy when we seek it with a contrite Spirit.
