Ok

[s]But, how feasible is that?

I mean, housing businesses in nigeria are virtually run by private enterprises,

The last time I checked, from number of registered voters as @ 2011, lagosians are above 10million or there about. (18yrs is legal for eligible voters, 2011 to now is 5yrs added to 18 which will be 23 and @ 23 most are graduates and are eligible to get their own apartments).

Lagos state government does not have up to 1million houses in lagos.

So, how are they gonna achieve this?

Are they going to force the private sectors to follow their policies?

Are they going to start building now? Where is the money?

Maybe it will be a public, private partnership project, of which they are gonna need a financier, a bank to bank roll most of the project. Will the banks be able to dole out such funds @ this critical time of financial crunch?

Are they gonna be patient for 10yrs? Can they re-coup their funds?

Those are the things the govt will have to consider 1st b4 mounting podiums to spill what they can not achieve.

Housing scheme is one big capital intensive project and a long term investment.

Can the state survive it now?

Best bet, create a conducive environment, allow private investors, but make a policy to help reduce the rent.

But this 10yrs housing scheme? Hmm. I don't think it is feasible.

Let's assume u bought a plot of land for 2million and den build with 5million, that is 7million all together.

5% of 7million is 350k, leaving a balance of 6.65million, spilt that into 10yrs, u will have a minimum of 665k per anum. Excluding the interest rates and profits after investment. Which low income earner can afford 665k per annum? Best bet a FG worker with level 8 earns 100k per month, and then he will churn out 665k from his/her 1.2mill per annum take home for just rents alone? Mbanu!!!!

Let's forget about people who ear 50k and so on[/s]

I blame the state gov'ts fro not enacting the necessary laws.

There should be laws in place banning public herding.

Grazing fields should be provided for a fee or free as deemed applicable by each state.

I swear Fulani herdsmen issue are consequences of bad socioagricutural policies rogue government left us with. n recently PDP 's inordinate ambition of distracting our hungry gazes from d real deal by engaging us in their deliberately fuelled intertribal wars especially in d middle Belt in d last 1 decade.
What does a Fulani who doesnt care about social amenities want if not green grasses for the love of his life - cattle?
Modern agriculture can solve that in no time.

Like I said, these are resolvable differences, if all stakeholders are proactive.

Bottom line, there is no way a bunch of herdsmen should come and hold any territory hostage -- it can't be done in all of my hoods.

...^^^ To add to the above...When exactly should a vandal be shot at sight? Is it when he's doing the damage or before he does the damage? I can rephrase if you want.
'Shoot on sight' is a permission given by authorities to law enforcement agents, with rules of engagement, depending on the analysis of the situation borne by feedback from intelligence gathering.
It is more or less a possibility in a scenario, than you taking it literally . . . see rules of engagement when engaging armed robbers.

Which other vice ensures 170 million people go through the agony of fuel scarcity.

Which other single vice has cost Nigeria $10b in the past 7 years?
PoliticsRe: Why Pipeline Vandals Should Be Shot On Sight! by 989900B(op): 9:31am On Apr 25, 2016
Just so I say this for clarification, Fulani herdsmen issues are for the most part human relations issues.

It is a problem not peculiar to Nigeria alone.

It is a problem that can be tackled by well thought-out state and local laws and policies.

Fulani herdsmen basically want feed for their livestock, but go about it in a very barbaric way.

I mean it is insane in 2016 having a herd of cows without factoring how you envisage feeding them.

I dare any Fulani herdsman bring his livestock into my farm, and destroy it, maybe I'll forgive the first time . . . you can count on the herd getting the 'Abacha/Abiola treatment' the next time.

In my 'opinion', both the local host communities and state gov'ts, have not properly addressed the Fulani menace, a group of miscreants should not be bold enough to come and over run your domain -- never.
PoliticsRe: Why Pipeline Vandals Should Be Shot On Sight! by 989900B(op): 9:02am On Apr 25, 2016
Reyginus:
Op, your argument can easily pass for any other vice. Is it exclusive to the vandals?
While you are right on the one side, the parts everyone with opposing view are missing are actually listed in the article:

Most of these attacks on the pipelines are sponsored by oil cabals (who want to continue importation of fuel) and alternative power benefactors, and you have on the other hand, 'local chiefs/warlords' who stand to benefit by settlements . . . settlements that the affected communities never benefit from.

Oil spillage causes environmental hazards . . . eventually death.

Economic losses to both the host communities and the country at large.

Personally, I do not know of any vice (apart from corruption as whole), that has the same gigantic ramifications as pipeline vandalism as listed in the article, if you do, kindly explain.

Kindly go thru the article again.

PoliticsRe: Port Harcourt, Warri Refineries Producing 7m Litres/per Day Of PMS – Kachikwu by 989900B: 4:46am On Apr 25, 2016
If all the refineries are working at 70% or more, we should be able to get north of 15 million litres daily, and if smuggling and pipeline vandalism is checked, we should have more stable power supply, reducing our daily consumption of PMS, AGO, and DPK -- reducing our refined products import, and conserving Forex, checkmating inflation.

Why is this news? Both refineries have always been producing between 6-7million litre/day for years now. So what are we celebrating?
We consume 40million litres daily and our half dead refineries produce just 10-12million litres of pms and we shuld jump up & be happy? We can sha celebrate mediocrity!!!
We should celebrate when we can be able to refine enough pms to fill our 40million litres/day need #kapish
When was the last time the 3 refineries produced consistently for 3 months?

Have you been following lately?

Progress and good intent/implementation is the celebration here; not 'goal achieved', not 'utopia'.

We build on this . . . read the concluding part of the article . . . fingers crossed, that should fix that.

Back to business of the evening.

I like the part that says “ What we have done is to find a very creative way of bringing investors who will come in, work with our team here who have the skills, reactivate and upgrade facilities in these refineries’’, the minister disclosed.
According to him, the investors will also help us to provide technical support and they will be paid through the flow out of refined products over a period of time which is why we have also changed the refining model such that refineries pay for their crude so it goes into federation account.
He explained that whatever they produce is theirs and they sell to one huge customer which will be both Nigerian Petroleum Marketing Company (NPMC) and the marketers themselves and that enables them to keep the refineries going after the upgrade so that the problem we have in the past of not repairing the refineries will not reoccur."
Me like cheesy . . . Kachikwu is working!

This thread is going to hell though cos our people's thought about pipeline vandalism is purely from the POV of either "the violent taketh it by force" or "punishing the government" which are both flawed arguments....

Ideology based struggle is one that is well thought out & will only achieve its desired objective, if ALL have altruistic reasons.

I know for a fact IOCs do the barest minimum for indigenous communities (Jobs, Scholarships, Contracts) , should be doing way way more but some have constituted themselves to kingpins!!

Few warlords drain the most & only allow but a trickle to flow down the pipe.. (Pun intended)

Fulani herdsmen menace & illegal miners are a different set of problems!!!
You know the part that sickens me the most is, most of the episodes are sponsored by same people who benefit by causing fuel scarcity and power outage (which the same 'none-the-wiser-brainwashed-thugs suffer from), while the same sponsors 'slyishly' proceed to Abuja to collect funds on behalf of the same misguided lot, and loot all of them funds.

The Fulani menace is a totally different case.
