Quick question, OP sorry to deviate a bit, good car to buy, this 08 MDX?. Good car. Quick, handles superbly well. Only downside is fuel economy. 12mpg in town and 18mpg on the highway of you drive like a grandpa. But the oomph more than. Makes up for the poor fuel economy. Accelerates well and outpaces most of its peers. |

Nnamdipapa: Ok, today I was out to do an oil change and decided to branch by my favorite Afghani store where I usually buy provisions when in the vicinity. Now, I came across an organic crate of egg for $16.99, 30 medium sized eggs in a crate. Now, I remembered I spoke with a friend in Lagos last week who priced a similar crate of egg at 6000Naira, Yes ! you heard me right! 6000Naira! Folks in Nigeria do not know how good they have it Living in Nigeria so next time you complain about Nigeria, remember a fresh organic crate of egg goes for N6000 and things are way cheaper in Nigeria compared to the western countries.
So, there is something that should make one happy living in Nigeria I am waiting on pins and needles for the minimum wage crew. This is a very stewpid comparison. Terribly stewpid. It cannot even be justified. Like seriously? |

It has been pickedup and I have been told that two of the engine seats are faulty. I will know for sure by tomorrow. Lets hope they sort it out. Two likely causes for the rattle 1. Loose heat shield. This runs all the way from the manifold all the way to the rear of the exhaust 2. Bad exhaust hangers For the vibration, check the following 1. Engine and trans mount 2. Propeller bolts and center casing 3. Brake discs. These shake the car in the manner you described. |

The noise went away but now the car is vibrating seriously with noise when accelerating. The steering, seats, even car charger are vibrating loudly. This acura mdx is which year? Chilipepper: A Nigerian man has shared an eye-opening experience about just how much local auto dealers mark up car prices.
According to him, his friend recently bought an SUV that usually goes for ₦55–₦60 million in the Nigerian market. But instead of paying that, he decided to handle everything himself — buying abroad, shipping, and clearing the car.
When it finally landed at his doorstep, the total cost was about ₦43 million.
He couldn’t help but ask:
“Dear Nigerian auto dealers, why is the mark up that huge? I’m genuinely curious.” Have you tried buying tomato and cow from the north yourself? Try it. In fact, buy your corn flakes, soap, detergent, seasoning, yam, rice, beans etc from source. |

It will be like this for the next 50 years. Haba, and the sad thing is most comments are from the so called educated youths from the southern part of the country, while the northerners that you people claim are not so “educated “ will never allow their rights to be infringed upon without fighting back, especially when there is a law like this to back them. Shame on you all educated people. VIO in Abuja no longer randomly stop cars, they have apps that they use to check if your papers have expired, and is only then they stop you. This was made possible by a court ruling.
One wanted to ask me for papers, I told him to use the VIO app to check my number plates, if him no get, make him commot for road, he just walked away. Try to update yourself. Keep up the good work. We will get there eventually. It is really sad to see 'educated' folks roll over to be whipped by these agencies. |

Sellfish: "Lawful Justification" they said
Good luck with anyone else relying on that judgement ...before Dem go determine what is or isn't "lawful Justification", you fit don rest for Kuje prison like 3 months
If these law officers can't find anything to pin on you, they can just seize both you and the vehicle on suspicions of terrorism and hand you over to DSS for "further investigation"
Best practice when dealing with these people is to be courteous, show them what papers they ask, and give them even if na two hundred naira when they ask for "anything for the bois"
The Court won't be there to help you if they decide to waste your time with trumped up allegations ...before your lawyer go file case to enforce your right, irreparable damage may have been done to you..
Nigeria is far too rotten for anyone to gamble with his life in the name of "enforcing his human right"... It started with attitudes such as yours. Stop giving these entitled brats money. Have your documents and all that is required to drive. Stop encouraging impunity. From asking for "something", they will eventually graduate to "demanding" for something. |

Ps . Under your profile it says you sell cars.. you will not make heaven o. Bad market. @the bolded, people still drive cars beyond 250k miles in the USA. Evidence abound. There are 5 years old cars with 200k miles on them. There are 10 year old cars with 100k miles on them and there are 30 year old cars with less than 30k miles on them. Road conditions ultimately do not determine how long an engine will last. Maintenance does. Bad roads affect suspensions, not necessarily the engine (unfortunately the lights arent fully on upstairs for you to grasp this). There are people who drive ladies machine that can buy your entire lineage. Its not by what you drive. Be humble. Take my advice. Sell your oil in peace but stop spreading fear, it is uncalled for. minista94: Not 20k mileage but 10k, but don't always wait to hit the 10k mileage, some change at 8k while some at 5k Not all engines were designed to cover 10k miles before oil change regardless of oil used. Even the famed mobil 1 will sludge up those engines. There are engines with very small oil capacities. These engines should not be run for longer than the manufacturer desired them to be run before changing oil regardless of the oil used. Owners who tried otherwise had their fingers burnt. Stick to oem recommendation. Its not all engines require synthetic oil. Its not all engines that can tolerate extended OCI. Hint, most of those Mercedes, BMW and some lexus vehicles that recommend long OCI have very large sumps (they take up to 8 to 10 litres of oil). That's twice what the regular car takes. Can you see the maths in how the long OCI came about? Engines have been known to sludge even when run on synthetic oil. Stick to OEM recommendation. |

humbleglobal: Hello All,
Please I need serious help. My Lexus Rx350 2008 model SUV has the check engine flashing. Each time its flashing the power and performance of the engine reduces. I had a scan run on it it complain about the no 3 and 5 coil which i have change with another one,the cylinder misfire. All that can be done has been done even to the extent of changing all the spark and ignition plugs but still the problem persists.
Please what can I do, spending a lot on the car. Could it be electrical problems?and the car is working well before,i just notice the oil is dry and finish quickly,so when it was the time to change the oil for servicing i change both gear and engine oil, at that point the mechanic advice me to ring the engine,so agreed with him,so go-ahead at the same time he condemn the crown-shaft as well, we fix all this, after ringing the given did not bring out the good voice,i was told the timing is not correct they brig the engine down to re-timing it back....at the end of it,the check engine flashing. Each time its flashing the power and performance of the engine reduces and i was told again is wiring problem, some rewire even told me that my brain bus has to replace, please sir/ma someone shuold please assist me ooo......i have spend less that 500K STILL not getting the result ,thank you help your brother, Flashing check engine light meant engine was misfiring. Mechanic should have moved plug and coil for cylinder 3 and 5 to another cylinder to see if code moves with it. If code remains on that cylinder, it would have indicated either an electrical problem (including ecu) or mechanical problem (cracked block, piston, top, etc). Change your mechanic. |

lantres000: The engine is the 2AR Current mileage is 155,000 imported December 2024 fixes carried out was just a back bumper and i have purchase the vehicle history from Carfax and it has passed all emission test since the inception of the car purchase rate of shortage is every 500KM
So i have changed the oil and the problem seems to have solve. i am currently using a 5W 20 so lets monitor it and see 1 litre every 500km is above the allowable limit. You may choose to drive the car like that as its not a death sentence on the engine yet. It might just be failed oil control rings or plugged oil return hols in the piston. Keep an eye on the consumption though. Things that could help 1. Use synthetic oil. This will clean out the gunk on the oil control rings and oil return holes 2. Decrease your oil change interval. 3. Take the car for a sprint and maintain high revs (Google Italian tune up) 4. See if you can order ferryman b12 and follow the guides before your next oil change. These are helpful tips that dont require invasive engine work. Cheers |

fidtopade: This sounds interesting, I just hope it will be as smooth as explained. The process he described is legit. I am not vouching for him. Just the process. Here's how it goes. 1. You choose from any of the auction sites. 2. You set your maximum bid price. 3. We bid at your max bid price. If it is won at a lower price, it's your gain. 4. There are auction charges to be paid asides the bid price. This is dependent on the auction company, location and bid amount. Usually around 1k dollars but can go as high as 3k dollars depending on the value of the car purchased and the auction site. Typically for the regular cars we buy, it's between 800 and 1500. 5. The vehicle has to be trucked out to the port. Price is dependent on the nearest shipping port or shipper location. Again budget between 275 and 1000. 6. Shipping. See above. Price is dependent on port ans wether it will be Roro or containerised. Forklift prices apply too if forklifted. 7. Buyer fees (negotiable), transfer charges (typically 30 dollars), title fees etc. 8. Clearing. This is dependent on custom valuation and exchange rate at time of arrival. Roro is faster. Containerised takes a slightly longer time. Shipping takes anywhere from 3 weeks from purchase and drop off at the port to 3 months or slightly more. All processes are transparent. You can chose to make all payments yourself (expect delays) or let us handle it for you (usually no delays). For the avoidance of doubt, there may be miscellaneous expenses such as storage at the auction yard, port etc due to unforseen issues but these are not common and are not expensive to accommodate. My contact is in my signature. Cheers. |

lantres000: Dear Friends
I imported a 2014 Toyota Camry SE edition sometime in December 2024. Every thing was going on well till i discovered the car is shorting oil and had to top up.
My mechanic scanned the vehicle and suggested we change the PCV Valve(Positive Crankcase ventilation Valve). The PCV valve has been changed and still i am experiencing the oil Shutting.
Mind you we have checked for Oil leakages every where and couldn't find any, and the Engine is not smoking.
I will appreciate any suggestions here to troubleshoot this. I am scared of having further encounter with a mechanic so that things dont get worse 1. What engine is in this car? 2AR or 2GR? 2. What is the mileage? 3. When did you import it and what fixes did you do before you started noticing this oil shortage? 4. What's the rate of shortage? 1L every 1000 miles? 5. What oil are currently using? Your mechanic is on the right path. He started with the easier and most probable fix first. Did he replace the pcv or did he "service" it? Stick your hand in your exhaust pipe, if you notice thick black oily soot, then your car is truly burning oil. This eliminates leaks Have someone else drive the car while you follow in another car. Sometimes, some cars only smoke when being driven. They smoke lightly which makes it difficult for the owner to notice while driving it. If it's smoking, take a note of whether the smoke is continuous during acceleration or if its intermittent. |
Car Talk › Re: Car Talk Chat Room by 9icetoo(m): 11:49am On Jun 18, 2025 |
2cribz: To those who wanna convert ac to manual. There is no difference in manual and auto, same volts, just that the clutch is the only ish,so ud need a thermostat to be installed,so that the ac compressor cuts and picks intermittently like auto. It can work for 3 years b4 e spoil. It doesn't have any effect on v6 engines from 3.0 engine size liter. The downsides is..it would consume some amount of fuel, like a liter or two difference. Your battery lifespan might not exceed 2 to 3 years cos the fan is bypassed to blow direct, whether ac or not.if ypur car is more than 12 to 15 years from manufacturing date, pls don't revert back,if u do. I'd experience problems with overheating, gasket burn, gasket change.end of engine....
If your cars engine is from 1.8l till 2.4 liter ..pls avoid manual compressor. When u turn it on,it would drag your rpm to below 1000 ,and if u brake on a speed bulb, ypur rpm would drop drastically to 350 to 500 rpm and engine would stall. It would cause wear of pulleys, timing belts, chains, vibration, excess fuel gulping and kill the car battery within a year.
Automatic compressor is best, but hardly survives nigeria environment due to dust, dirt, sand, fake gas.... so within 8 to 10 months, the follow come ac would pack up,knock ,get burnt and spoil. Automatic ac doesn't tolerate any form of dirt,a pinch of dirt, say bye bye to the compressor.... V6 engines from 3.0 liter would chest any manual compressor,if your engine is the high rev engine that starts from 1000rpm at idle, pls go for it.
Don't say I did not warn u. Sometimes eh, just stay silent so you don't dispel all doubts. |

immortalcrown: Is the good Samaritan willing to give the hospital his identity in case no one else shows up for the accident victim?
Nigerian database is too poor to support hospitals treating accident victims in certain situations. Many of you might claim that I am heartless. But isn't the nurse also a human? What if the victim fails to pay after treatment and the hospital mandates the nurse to pay the bill?
What if police later gets involved and detains the girl when no one else shows up for the victim? In Nigeria, some legal actions have been criminalised and poor people are the victims. For a nurse to boldly refuse to treat the victim, even when she knows she is being recorded, she must have had many bitter experiences in such cases.
ADDED: Those that attack me and wish that I get involved in a road accident have not been able to answer the question in my first paragraph. Their sentiments render their brains inactive. I never said that an accident victim should not be treated. The point is that whoever takes the victim to a hospital should give the hospital his or her identity in case no one else shows up for the victim. Anyways, whatever you wish me shall befall you in 100 folds unless you point out where I wish anybody bad.
I laugh at those who have quoted me and said I may have a road traffic accident on my next road trip. I had an accident in the year 2020. The moment it happened, I could not sit or stand. I sustained serious spinal injuries. I was rushed to a federal hospital around 3:30 PM. Something like a cast, maybe POP is the name, was applied to my thoracolumbar region, and an injection was given to me. Both the POP and the injection were bought by my uncle from a pharmacy outside the hospital. Then, I was left on a bed along a passage at the emergency unit. Only God knows why we met that bed there. No other bed along that passage. After about 2 or 3 hours, my uncle complained and questioned why I was still left along the passage. The medical record staff he spoke to called security to bounce him out of the hospital. Another accident victim was brought in around 11:00 PM. Around 3:00 AM, the relatives of that one angrily took him out to look for another hospital. I remained along the passage, groaning in pains until after 11:00 AM or 12:00 PM the next day because there was no network for the hospital to open a folder for me.
So many other pathetic events followed. Though I didn't lose sensation, no defecation and no urge for it for at least one week, I stopped having erection until after many months, my lungs felt deflated, no bathing for at least 4 months because my thoracolumbar region remained covered with the cast. I remained in bed for a while before I was mobilized on a wheelchair. But I never blamed the workers I met there because I understand that the system was not destroyed by them. This thing happened in the National Orthopaedic Hospital Enugu. So, the fools wishing me accident and the ones telling me about federal hospitals should know that I have been a victim. I contemplated euthanasia for myself because I never knew I would survive. I have suffered. I am leaving with pains. But I am not a sentimentalist. Glory to God. Now, I walk without crutches but can't lift heavy things or do so many things. I don't do physical exercise. I don't kneel down. But in all these, I am not sentimental and stupid like those of you that attack me here. I don't and will never scapegoat health workers. I blame them only when they are at fault. Your questions are stupid. The good samaritan does not need to drop his ID. The nurse is not supposed to be saddled with the cost of treatment. The nurse showed no sense of urgency and is as daft as they come. That your experience was terrible does not justify this stupidity on display. |
