Saleslourd: Hi guys,
After seeing so much confusion online about the Police Tinted Glass Permit in 2025, I decided to share my experience — especially for anyone trying to go through the legal route this year.
I used to think the process was all about “just apply and wait” — but I later found out there are important details most people overlook (and that can cause unnecessary delays or even rejection).
Here’s what I learned:
✅ The online application is only one step — there’s more to it. ✅ There are 3 types of tinted glass setups, and not all require medical reports. ✅ Certain documents (especially the car’s VIN or tint markings) make a big difference. ✅ If your car is registered in someone else’s name (e.g., inheritance or company), there are legit ways to still get approved. ✅ Police checks can happen even while your application is “pending”, so knowing what to say is key.
This is not about “shortcuts” or bribery. It’s about understanding the right steps so you don’t waste time or get harassed on the road.
If you’re still in the dark or worried about processing yours, I’ve documented everything I wish I knew earlier in a short info guide — with screenshots, tips, and common mistakes to avoid. Just helping out.
Drop your questions or share your own experience. I’ll try to respond to as many as I can.
Stay safe on the roads. 🇳🇬 Where's the how after the long post? |

1. Having to swear an oath before commenting was one of the most stupid and bigoted decisions ever. Common sense has eventually prevailed. 2. You really need help with your mindset. 50% ko, 50% ni. Give the two religions their separate links. Give atheists theirs ans traditional religions theirs. 3. Ban any idiot who disrespects any religion. That should have been the MO from day one instead of this senseless oath swearing and stuff. It was a moronic idea and very insulting at conception. 4. It will take a lot of fiddling to get this site to where it used to be. It has truly lost its shine. Visits are dwindling. Engagements are dwindling. Topics are bland and utter trips for lack of better words. |

My Toyota Camry 2001 (Envelope) has been of late having issues.
I've personally scanned it with my scanner and my Mechanic has done all he thinks and there's no solution in sight yet.
When I start the car it works fine for a moment and afterwards the whole system changes and the car (RPM) drops to almost zero and shaky.
I've changed the Air Mass Sensor,Fuel pump, injector Nozzles, Serviced the injector system.
Now the engine temperature rises in a very short while and produces black smoke from the exhaust.
I have attached the screenshot from the Scans and readings too
Please Help a Brother. P.S. I just serviced the car too The following things should be checked out 1. Check if you have leaks around your manifold and hoses that take air into your engine. Your engine is running lean. Too much unemeterd air is probably getting into the engine. 2. Check the wiring of your map sensor and 02 sensor. Please have a competent electrician who can use a multimeter do this for you. They need to check for continuity ans ground on the wiring to make sure all is well. If all is okay, swap another working ecu with yours and see if the problem goes away. If it does, your ecu is the culprit. But before swapping ecu, please make sure your have checked the wiring out properly. I assume your mechanic has checked your coils and plugs already. |

erico2k2: Your car needs its BCM and Charge management system re programmed, its a 5 mins job with the right tool. The fact that your car has a charging fuse, it means it has a charge management system. The charge system learn the state of your battery and charges as such, hence its called intelligent charge management system if you diagnose its code. In an ordinary man word, your car is charging your new battery like the Old one but the system is receiving voltage of a new full battery.SO what the programming does is tell the charging system that this is a new battery charge it as such, its that basic and simple. You don't even know the make model and year of the car!!!! Nawao. |

The answer to this question will determine the appropriate esponse. However, see below. Generally, if you are reinstalling the same battery, you do not need to reprogramme. But for cars that do not require reprogramming (and yes there are multitudes of them), you don't need to bother yourself. |

erico2k2: I am pretty sure you got the gist. I am not a car mechanic, however I'm a DIY enthusiast and a Fluid Engineer. If you have even a basic Scan tool that can program, you will notice there is a battery and BDM programming. The thing is people like you don't listen and don't learn and everything is a joke to you. Now you are trying to sound sarcastic when you aint even remotely close. To your question Every car that has a smart charging unit should be programmed if not the charge unit will charge the New battery as if its the old one, this is the simple reason you should. Personal Experience's cars need a full charge of 12,50 plus V to enable programming fru the OBD port, if your formal battery can only reach 12.10V which is Ok to drive ,your smart charging unit is learned to charge to just that. When you eventually buy a newer battery, its still gong to be charged up to12,10v,so OBD programmer needs minimum of 12.50 Volts to do anything, at this point you wont be able to do anything. But anyway what do I know sef.Guy good luck Gradually, you are seeing the error in your ways. It has now changed to "every car that has a smart charging unit". I tot you said all cars from 2015? Is this the same with "all cars in the west are serviced every year"? Fallacy of generalisation. And oh yeah, our knees are quaking cos you are a fluid engineer. Stop it. |

Car Talk › Re: Car Talk Chat Room by 9icetoo(m): 10:58pm On Mar 12, 2025 |
erico2k2: From all these you haven't got a clue about Engines. I stated there Boldy That any mechanic that opens and close an Engine without a torque wrench is a Quack, Do you see any of them saying anything?? I don't think you have ever held or seen a Torque wrench.it goes beyond belief that you are engaging in these conversation you know next to nothing about. A torque wrench cost less than N30k in todays money. All cars have torque specifications. Lazy mechanic fail and wont learn how to set a torque wrench. This is the case for smoking Engines and braking studs. If you insist someone should rebuild an Engine without a torque wrench that I insist you stop commenting on Cars. You talking about running just fine on more than 100s of cars rebuilt, I laugh. Why do you think people complain that their cars consume so much fuel and are looking for fuel efficient cars when in turn they don't even know what that means. People who belong to same school of thought like you are the ones who will buy a new car battery into their 2015 car and wont bother to reprogram the car to re configure that charging ability. Look I have met a lot of mechanic who actually know what they are doing. The have the required tool like that young man who came to free my range rover in 2018 when I got stuck in shagamu on here .Check rad autos on here, there are few good Auto techs on Nairaland. For enlightment purpose, your car Engine is meant to be tightened to its torque specification and in a sequence. If you do that ,your Engine compression will go back to factory spec. The irony here is you are talking to someone who uses torque wrenches. Do you reprogramme a 2015 toyota Highlander to accept a new battery? Do you reprogramme a 2015 toyota yaris to accept a new battery? We do not live in a ideal world. Our mechanics do not have a lot of tools to rebuild engines as it should be done but they do just fine with what they have. Those that need the services of mechanics who possess such tools and can afford them, use them. The fallacy of generalisation is a major flaw you have in your submissions. That, and your penchant for throwing around outlandish claims. I suggest you tone down on those. There are people here who know a whole lot more about how these things work than you can ever know. And there are people here, who know that you don't also know the head and tail of what you speak about. |

erico2k2: ANSWER IS OVERWHEMLY YES[/b] Any one who rebuilds an Engine, Any sort of Engine without a Torque Wrench is a Quack, I challenge any Mechanic on Nairaland to prove me wrong. Inukwa? Oga, so it can be done but it makes the person a quack? There are literally hundreds of thousands of engines running around this country that have been rebuilt without torque wrenches. And they are running just fine. Are torque wrenches a nice tool to have when rebuilding engines? Yes. Can an engine be rebuilt without them? Yes. Stop capping and rest. I guess my generator mechanic will need to come and rework my gen with a torque wrench cos he didn't use it when he rebuilt it three years ago. And if you couldn't find logic in my other post, then you may have to read it again but this time slowly. Check engine ko, yearly service ni. |

erico2k2: You are over flogging this check Engine light. All I said was a simple and short statement of fact. If your car is above 2015 i n the Uk and the rest of the west, it will fail MOT if it shows a check Engine light. So something so simple as your car out of Timing will fail your MOT. And failing an MOT test in the "west" for having your check engine light on is not only for 2015 and above cars. Some states in the USA require cars made way beyond that 2015 even as far back as 2001 to pass the emissions test as well as not having their check engine light on. This ya west, you dey make am sound like say na only you dey dia. We don hia. Oyibo engine no dey fail and them no get less than optimal engines. Their engines no get sludge and them no dey smoke. Engines sourced from there come with 10 years warranty. Happy? |
Car Talk › Re: Car Talk Chat Room by 9icetoo(m): 2:49pm On Mar 12, 2025 |
erico2k2: Well, you need a certificate every year to prove your car is road worthy to drive in the west if your car is private no exception and if commercial is 6 months, No exceptions. How is this an assumption? If Nigerians as mechanics have tools as simple is torque. wrenches, Unseized Engines should be easy like ABC.If there is nothing broken inside an Engine. Then you got nothing to worry about. And we don't need such certificates in nigeria? So an engine with worn out camshafts, lobes, cylinder walls or sleeves, worn piston rings or pistons, worn main bearings, journals etc is still a sound engine? Or how is the buyer who sourced it from the scrap yard our auctioned vehicle from the west supposed to know? As if a worn journal or main bearing will throw a check engine light? Oga, leave this matter. Dead was a literal term. We didn't say it's an engine that can't turn over. Let me rephrase it. Bad engine. And e full everywhere even in the mighty "west". Oya rest. |

delaw4u: Sultan get me right I bought the vehicle from USA directly ok it's 4 cylinder engine, I was told the oil was low when the vehicl came out I asked him to buy coastal oil ok which he did and change the oil with 5qts coastal engine oil that USA own which I can't guarantee because I was not the one who made the oil not produce when I was there. My notice was that I set the oil change to 3000 but now at 1500mile it's hard to touch the bottom of the dis stick now am now asking for a better engine oil as everyone suggest I should change the oil and filter by myself Please be specific on the type of oil and filter and who dru you're are referring to that I should buy the oil from pls can I have his no? Thanks The 4 cylinder engines in that model of kia/hyundai are known to burn oil. Some burn as much as 1L per 1k miles. Kia/hyundai says this consumption level is okay and would only consider replacing the engine if the consumption is more than 1L per 1k mile. Do not be tempted to switch to 20w50. You will simply kill that engine. The oil return holes in the piston are very tiny and clog easily with thicker oils. Since you do not notice oil drops anywhere you park the car, do not worry your head or embark on tearing down that engine. This is what you should do 1. Try 5w40 bran of a reputable oil brand. Total is available. Buy from total filling station. Dru23 dey here. There are others as well. Some oils do not burn as fast as others. 2. Check your oil consumption level and if it is within 1L per 1000 miles, you are okay. There are other engines that consume same. Some toyota engines are on this shaky table 3. Check your oil every time you fill up your tank or every weekend if you do mostly city driving. Do not wait until the next Oil change to check your oil. |

erico2k2: If you buy a direct used car from Europe or America, it is serviced yearly, so your car will be in good condition, Unless you are one of those who believe in tropicalization. This assumption is bold. Very bold. Without a maintenance record, you cannot guarantee that cars were serviced "every year". And every year might not be the ideal service interval for every car. Several factors determine how often a car should be serviced. |

erico2k2: The problem with you lot is this, you assume, even when someone is trying hard to enlighten you on a basic thing as Hard water GO AND DO THE RESEARCHAND FIND OUT WHAT hard water means.HARD WATER FORMS SCALE WHEN BOILED, DO those living in Lagos have to Descale their kettles Bro use google man, this conversation is degrading at this point no pons meant but this is basic science.Let me help you here since you are too lazy to search
With hard water, soap solutions form a white precipitate (soap scum) instead of producing lather, because the 2+ ions destroy the surfactant properties of the soap by forming a solid precipitate (the soap scum). A major component of such scum is calcium stearate, which arises from sodium stearate, the main component of soap:
2 C17H35COO− (aq) + Ca2+ (aq) → (C17H35COO)2Ca (s) Hardness can thus be defined as the soap-consuming capacity of a water sample, or the capacity of precipitation of soap as a characteristic property of water that prevents the lathering of soap. Synthetic detergents do not form such scums. Hard water also forms deposits that clog plumbing. These deposits, called "scale", are composed mainly of calcium carbonate (CaCO3), magnesium hydroxide (Mg(OH)2), and calcium sulfate (CaSO4).[3] Calcium and magnesium carbonates tend to be deposited as off-white solids on the inside surfaces of pipes and heat exchangers. This precipitation (formation of an insoluble solid) is principally caused by thermal decomposition of bicarbonate ions but also happens in cases where the carbonate ion is at saturation concentration.[9] The resulting build-up of scale restricts the flow of water in pipes. In boilers, the deposits impair the flow of heat into water, reducing the heating efficiency and allowing the metal boiler components to overheat. In a pressurized system, this overheating can lead to the failure of the boiler.[10] The damage caused by calcium carbonate deposits varies according to the crystalline form, for example, calcite or aragonite.[11] And yes, scales form in kettles and pressing irons and boilers over here. Tap water over here comes from mainly boreholes and comes with dissolved minerals which precipitate out when the water is boiled and or oxygenated. Some of the "tap" water here also have iron which leave reddish to brownish deposits when exposed to the atmosphere. The problem is that you assume hardness only comes from treated water from water corporations. There are places in nigeria where the borehole water is naturally hard (ebonyi, kogi etc). Distilled water or demin water will do just fine for mixing and when in a pinch can be run straight in the cooling system. Granted, the anti corrosion properties aren't there but it won't leave deposits that will clog up the system. That's the crux of the whole discussion. Seems you are a grad of chemistry or chem eng. |

erico2k2: Let me shoke you, there was a law passed i n the Uk if your car was made from 2014,by your car displaying a check Engine light on the dashboard your car will f ail MOT and MOT is mandatory by law yearly. The absence of a check engine light does not mean an engine was well maintained. There are lots of dead engines without check engine light. Toks cars have been imported into this country with dead engines which "ran" on videos posted by auction companies. There is no guarantee. I've seen comatose engines in this country without check engine light and very sound engines in vehicles which had numerous lights on their dash. |

erico2k2: you said do not use tap water. And he is right. Most tap water are hard water. They leave deposits behind when they evaporate. Distilled or demin water is preferred as it won't leave deposits behind which will ultimately clog up your radiator or cooling system or exercabate corrosion. I agree with you on the coolant thing though. |
