Politics / 'Time To End This Madness Is Now' - Murray-Bruce, Saraki, Atiku On SARS Killings by 9jaBlogger: 5:19am On Oct 04, 2020
Senator Ben Murray-Bruce formerly representing Bayelsa East senatorial district in the eight Senate of the National Assembly, has joined in the campaign against the ram spell of Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) unit of the Nigeria police against the Nigerian masses.

According to Murray-Bruce in a statement sighted by Igbere TV, “Every citizen owns the right to life, liberty and happiness but in Nigeria, the very body tasked with ensuring the protection of life and property is the body denying these rights to our citizens. Enough is Enough. The time to end SARS brutality is now!”

Similarly former Senate President, Bukola Saraki, called on the federal government to restructure the police force's Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) unit across the country.

Saraki, in a series of tweets sighted by Igbere TV on his Twitter handle, also called on government to immediately put a stop to harassment, killings and illegal arrests carried out by the Unit.

"The reports of the continued harassment, illegal arrest, detention and high handedness by rogue cells of SARS against innocent Nigerians - most of them young people - in spite of the efforts to reform the Police & raise standards of policing are disheartening," he said.

"A situation where the officers of the Police Force become a threat to the lives and property of the citizens they swore to protect is condemnable and unacceptable.

"I call on the Federal Government to immediately put a stop to these reprehensible activities and restructure the unit to better perform its lawful duties of safe guarding the lives and property of the Nigerian people", Saraki added.

This was as former vice president and Peoples Democratic Party 2019 presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar called for the review of SARS activities across the country.

"The Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) unit of the Nigerian Police was set up to confront violent crimes such as armed robbery, kidnapping and other related crimes. However, the unit has today morphed into an oppressor of the Nigerian masses who strive every day for a better life.

"Reports of intimidation, harassment and outright extortion by officers of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) have continued unabated. I strongly condemn their cruel actions against our people, and I urge the government to rise to the occasion and nip this monstrosity in the bud with the seriousness it deserves.

"It's expedient that the activities of SARS are reviewed to ensure that the rogue elements are excised from the unit and sanity returned to its operations," he tweeted.

Crime / Man Rapes, Impregnates & Aborts Stepdaughter's Pregnancy In Lagos (Photos) by 9jaBlogger: 8:45am On Oct 03, 2020
A middle-aged man identified as Mr Owen Akpan, has been arrested by the police in Lagos for sexually abusing his teenage stepdaughter since she was just age nine.

Igbere TV gathered that Mr. Akpan from Akwa Ibom, lives in Sadiku street by Trinity bus stop, Berger Suya, Olodi Apapa, Lagos, where he carried out the illicit act for years.

Akpan was arrested on Saturday morning following the intervention of a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), the Women of Inestimable Values.

The victim (names withheld) was rescued by the NGO while at the verge of committing suicide, after several plea for leniency from her stepfather fell on deaf ears.

Narrating the horror experience under her stepfather's roof to Igbere TV, the victim said Mr. Akpan started abusing her while she was little.

She said her mother lived separately with them, as she was only made to stay with the stepfather, his brother and her own sister.

She told our correspondent that the stepfather threatens her life if she tells anyone whenever she threatens to report the case.

But Akpan's luck finally ran out as he was caught pants down penultimate week by the victim's younger sister, although he denied it.

The victim revealed to Igbere TV how the stepfather got her pregnant. She said she did abortion thrice following the discovery.

She also said whenever she refused to allow the man sleep with her, he beats her, denies her meal and even tied her up and rape her at will.

According to her, on so many occasion she begged the stepfather to stop raping her, but he said she does not have the right to tell him to stop, that he will only stop when he wants to.

"He started sleeping with me when I was small and even got me pregnant and took me to abort the pregnancy", she said.

"I didn't talk then because I thought he would stop as I grew older but he did not," the 21-year-old victim narrated. She said she just finished secondary school.

She added that the stepfather takes advantage of her whenever she requests for something from him or catches her doing anything "wrong".

Reacting however, Mr Akpan who did not deny sleeping with her stepdaughter said he did it only twice, but the victim insisted he did it severally.

"I mistakenly made love to her", he said acting remorseful, "but I have promised myself not to do it anymore."

"I slept with her twice. I started doing it while she was about 12, but she is currently 20," Mr Akpan added.

He, however, denied maltreating his stepdaughter He said he gave the victim whatever she demands for at anytime.

Mr. Akpan pleaded to be spared, while blaming the devil for the acts, saying he would not go back to it if given a second chance.

Asked if the victim's mother is aware of his sexual escapades, Mr. Akpan simply said "yes".
Igbere TV gathered that the victim's mother begged the daughter not to tell anybody, 'in order not to bring shame to the family.'

Although Igbere TV could not immediately speak with the victim's mother, a statement credited to her said she refused to speak up or report the issue.

"The man beats me when I complain, and will always not give us food, or ask me to leave the house, when I try to stop him reason I could not report or tell anybody", she was quoted as saying.

A representative of the NGO, Ms. Lilian, who spoke to Igbere TV, said the victim was rescued two weeks ago while the stepfather kept evading arrest until he was finally arrested on Saturday.

The case is currently at a Saduke police division, close to where the victim lives. A police source said Mr. Akpan would be charged to court as soon as investigation is concluded.

"As an organisation, we will continue to act, to ensure all victims of rape obtain justice", Ms. Lilian of the Women of Inestimable Values Foundation, said.

Politics / Guber Poll: More Photos As Obaseki, Deputy Pay "Thank You" Visit To Buhari by 9jaBlogger: 1:40pm On Sep 25, 2020
The re-elected Governor of Edo State, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, on Friday, September 25, 2020, met with President Muhammadu Buhari, at the State House, Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The visit is coming exactly five days after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), on Sunday, declared Obaseki as the winner of the September 19 Edo governorship election.

Igbere TV State House correspondent reports that the Edo governor was at the Villa to express gratitude to President Buhari for conducting a free, fair and credible poll under his administration in Edo State.

Governor Obaseki was accompanied on the visit by his wife, Betsy; deputy governor, Philip Shuaibu and wife, Maryann. They were joined by few lawmakers from Edo. The meeting held at the Council Chambers axis of the Villa.

Obaseki had earlier paid similar visits to Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom and Cross River States Government House to thank Governors Ifeanyi Okowa, Douye Diri, Nyesom Wike, Udom Emmanuel and Ben Ayade for the roles they played in his electoral victory.

Igbere TV reports that Governor Obaseki defeated Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), 12 other contestants to win the just concluded September 19 Governorship election in Edo state.

He had dumped the APC for the PDP when the ruling party headed by his then estranged benefactor and former Edo governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, disqualified him from participating in its primary election.

Asked if he has plans to return to the APC, following his re-election as governor, Obaseki told State House correspondents that it would be immoral for him to return to the ruling party.

Politics / Fani-Kayode Reacts To Suspension Of Fayemi From APC by 9jaBlogger: 10:55am On Sep 25, 2020
A former Minister of Aviation, Mr. Femi Fani-Kayode, has reacted to the suspension of Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State and ally, from the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Igbere TV had on Friday broke the news of the suspension of Gov Fayemi by a faction of the Ekiti APC led by Senator Tony Adeniyi, over alleged anti-party activities.

The APC said the governor was suspended due to “his numerous anti-party activities, especially his role in the recently concluded governorship election in Edo state” which saw the party losing out in the contest.

The party claimed that five days before the Edo election, Governor Fayemi hosted PDP big wig Mr. Femi Fani-Kayode in the government house in Ado-Ekiti and planned a coup against Edo APC.

"This is same Fani-Kayode who daily abuses President Muhammadu Buhari, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, the APC as a party as well a vital section of our country. We have evidence of that meeting.

"Fani-Kayode specifically said he has gone on his tour as part of an effort between him and Fayemi to build a cross-party alliance and few hours after leaving Ekiti he fired a shot at Asiwaju Tinubu", APC alleged.

But reacting in a statement made available to Igbere TV, on Friday, Fani-Kayode said suspending Gov Fayemi from the APC over his visit to him in Ekiti was absurd.

"Governor Kayode Fayemi is a loyal member of the APC whilst I am in PDP. Accusing him of "anti-party activities" & attempting to suspend him from his party simply because I visited him to discuss national & SW issues is absurd.

"Is it "anti-party" to meet with a friend of over 30 years? Is it "anti-party" to try and find ways to enhance national unity and cohesion?

"Is it "anti-party" to apttempt to engender peace in our nation & to build bridges across regional, ethnic, religious and party lines? Is it "anti-party" to practice politics without bitterness?

"We must accept the fact that talking to those thet we do not agree with politically is something that ought to be encouraged. Politics is not war!", the ex-Aviation minister added.

Politics / APC Suspends Kayode Fayemi Over Anti-Party Activities by 9jaBlogger: 9:02am On Sep 25, 2020
The crisis rocking the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State worsened on Friday, September 25, as a faction of the party led by Senator Tony Adeniyi, suspended Governor Kayode Fayemi over alleged anti-party activities.

This is coming barely 24 hours after another faction loyal to the governor suspended Senator Babafemi Ojudu, special adviser on political matters to the president; Oyetunde Ojo, son-in-law to APC national leader Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu and nine others from the party.

Igbere TV had reported how the APC hinged their suspension on "the recommendation" of the investigative/disciplinary committee inaugurated to investigate their alleged disobedience of the directive that party members should not institute any court action, and to withdraw existing cases in court.

On Friday, however, the Senator Adeniyi-led faction suspended Governor Fayemi from the APC, alleging that no Ward Congress has taken place in the state since inception of the party, insisting that the governor’s faction was illegal.

Adeniyi, who represented Ekiti South senatorial district between 2011 and 2015, said he was made Acting Chairman of the Ekiti APC owing to the “absence of direction or directive from the National Body” and was adjudged as “the only one thus capable to call the SEC(State Executive Council) meeting as duly required by the constitution from henceforth.”

According to the suspension notice made available to Igbere TV, in Ado-Ekiti, on Friday, the SEC meeting which suspended Fayemi, was held on Tuesday, September 23, 2020, in accordance with Section 12.8 of APC Constitution.

The APC accuse Faayemi of anti-party roles in the Sept. 19 Edo governorship election, which saw the party losing out in the contest. The party also said Fayemi has colluded with Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State in his bid for 2023 vice presidential candidate under the PDP, if his bid for presidential candidate in APC fails.

Read the full statement....

RE: DR. KAYODE FAYEMI ANTI–PARTY ACTIVITIES

After painstakingly reviewing the activities of some members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State, we the authentic members of the Party in the State and Members of State Executive Committee per Section 12.8 of APC Constitution being duly constituted members of the National Convention of the Party, rose from its meeting of the 23rd September, 2020 and resolved as follows:

1. We note the continued illegalities in the name of the party, being conducted by Dr. Kayode Fayemi, who as Governor is an ordinary member of the SEC and ought to have called meetings of this duly constituted body as a critical party organ, has failed to do so since his assumption of office in 2018.

2.That the body currently masquerading as the elected members of the SEC or as the State Working Committee or appendages is unknown to us (as due statutory members of SEC) since no Ward Congress has taken place in Ekiti State APC since inception. All SEC members listed in Section 12.8 of our constitution, (i) to (xxvii) as such are open positions since only duly officiated Ward congresses with INEC observation can fill these positions.

3.As such, only the duly elected members of the APC in the state serving as Governor, Deputy Governor, Speaker & Deputy Speaker as well as Principal Officers of the House and Members of the National Convention which includes all present and past National Assembly members today constitute the State SEC of our great party.

4.To this end, in the absence of a properly organized body and meeting, and the continued insistence of the Governor to neglect his duty to initiate Ward Congresses or call a meeting of the SEC to deliberate upon pertinent issues, we as loyal members of our party and members of the State Executive Committee met to rescue our party from continued denigration and abuse, and resolved thus:

1.That Dr. Kayode Fayemi, the Executive Governor of Ekiti State is hereby suspended from the Party in view of his numerous anti-Party activities especially his role in the recent concluded governorship election in Edo State which is contrary to the provisions of Article 21 (A) (ii) of the APC Constitution.
For five days prior to the Edo elections Gov Fayemi hosted PDP big wig Mr Femi Fani- Kayode in the government house in Ado Ekiti in the run up to the Edo elections . It was here they perfected the coup against our party in Edo State. This is same Fani-Kayode who daily abuses President Muhammadu Buhari, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, the APC as a party as well a vital section of our country. We have evidence of that meeting.

Fani-Kayode specifically said he has gone on his tour as part of an effort between him and Fayemi to build a cross-party alliance and few hours after leaving Ekiti he fired a shot at Asiwaju Tinubu.

1 (a) We also have evidence of celebration by his aides in Ekiti government house and on social media.

1(b) We also recall his role in the gubernatorial election in Oyo State where he supported the PDP candidate to defeat the APC candidate. A second tranche of money he sent to Gov Makinde in the election was intercepted by soldiers. The courier Mr Ayo Adegbite, his Chief Protocol Officer was arrested and he immediately disowned and announced his sack . Mr Adegbite remains his aide till date.

1(c) We also recall the support he provided a PDP candidate who challenged an APC Senator Prince Dayo Adeyeye in the Tribunal. He moved the judges to Kaduna to deliver judgement when he knew what he planned against his party was unpopular in Ekiti. We have more to tell on this betrayal and traitorous act of his. APC Senator is out of the Senate today and PDP is in. The relationship between Fayemi and Senator Olujimi of PDP , the beneficiary of his treachery is known to all in Ekiti State.

We also recall his resort to court when majority of party members nominated late Senator Abiola Ajimobi for Deputy National Chairman of the party. He fought Ajimobi till death.

1(d) His fraternisation with the PDP in continuation of his bid for Vice Presidential candidate under the party ( if his bid for Presidential candidate in APC fails ) was masked by commissioning of projects in Rivers State, a smokescreen for his consultation to woo the support of Governor Nyesom Wike last year .

2. That the Paul Omotosho led faction of APC Executive in the State is hereby declared illegal and suspended from the Party for failure to emerge in accordance to the Constitution of the Party.

3.That Paul Omotoso and his co travellers’s refusal to respect court proceedings in which they are not only joined but appeared in court through the proceedings but defiantly disrespected the court contrary to the hallowed decision of the Supreme Court in OJUKWU vs GOVERNOR OF LAGOS STATE

4.That Paul Omotosho faction of the executive should desist from parading themselves as the Executive Members of the Party in the State and that the Nigerian Police and Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the general public should take note.

5.That Senator Tony Adeniyi, as a statutory member of the SEC going by our party’s constitution, was elected by all members attending as the Acting Chairman of the State Executive Committee in the absence of direction or directive from the National Body. He is as such the only one thus capable to call the SEC meeting as duly required by the constitution from henceforth.

6.The committee seating also agreed to begin bridge building across our members, statewide and nationally, and set up a special intervention committee, APC Majeobaje Working Group, to be led by Prince Bamgboye Adegoroye, and six other individuals from across our great state. That working group will henceforth do the hard work of rebuilding APC in Ekiti state and prevent the oncoming annihilation of our party if we take no action at the upcoming polls.

We note that the All Progressives Congress is a party of progressives, and must do things only in line with the law. The APC cannot act against its constitution or the law of the land, hence this intervention became urgently necessary and pertinent before marauders destroy the party permanently.

It must be emphasized that with the increasingly discerning capacity and sophistication of our people we cannot afford to take them for granted. We must be able to sustain the relevance of our party in Ekiti State, hold our members and win new members. We are obligated to ensure that the light of our electoral prospect and fortune is not dimmed or extinguished.

Signed:
For Ekiti State APC State Executive Committee

1. Senator Tony Adeniyi
⁃ Senator , Ekiti South Senatorial District (2011 – 2015)

2. Senator Babafemi Ojudu
⁃ Senator , Ekiti Central Senatorial District ( 2011 – 2015 )

3. Senator Dayo Adeyeye, Senator , Ekiti South Senatorial District ( 2019- ) Former Minister of Works.

4. Congressman Bimbo Daramola, Ekiti North Federal Constituency (2011 – 2015)

CAMA Will Help Us Fight Corruption, Buhari Says At UNGA Summit

President Muhammadu Buhari has once again justified the controversial Companies and Allied Matters Act (CAMA), 2020 recently passed by his administration, saying it will help fight corruption.

According to the President, in a statement made available to Igbere TV, Thursday, endorsed by his spokesman, Femi Adesina, CAMA "will enhance transparency and corporate accountability in the fight against corruption".

Igbere TV gathered that Buhari in a video message presented at the Open Government Partnership (OGP) 2020 Virtual Leaders’ Summit on the sidelines of the 75th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA75) in New York, United States.

''Since the inception of our Administration in 2015, the Government has been committed to changing international and domestic perceptions regarding Nigeria’s commitment to fight corruption and foster good governance," he said.

''We focused on the task of dealing head-on with this destructive monster, which led to us joining the Open Government Partnership and making reform commitments such as to establish a public central register of beneficial owners of corporate entities.

''Since then, we have made significant progress in implementing tougher anti-corruption measures, including my recent assent to the Companies and Allied Matters Act, 2020.

''The Act provides a legal framework for the implementation of Beneficial Ownership Information Disclosure in Nigeria.

''Being an OGP member-country has helped Nigeria learn from other countries tackling similar challenges, and to build a coalition to support these reforms across the private sector and civil society. It has also aided our journey towards building citizens’ trust in government,'' Buhari added.

As COVID-19 cases continue to accelerate worldwide, President Buhari told the Summit that it had become clear that governments cannot solve all the challenges of the pandemic alone, stressing it is only through open governance and working with citizens that nations can succeed.

''We face a significant contraction in the global economy in 2020; the world is facing the unprecedented twin challenges of managing the health and economic impacts of the pandemic.

''In these times, citizens worldwide are seeking more information, engagement, and support from their governments,'' he said.

The Nigerian leader pledged that his administration would continue to use its OGP membership to ensure that open government approaches strengthen the pandemic management, adding that the Nigerian government will sustain consultations and engagements with citizens through Civil Society Organisations and the Organised Private Sector on COVID-19 response and recovery plan.

According to the President, ''these consultations are in line with the effort of our administration to encourage public participation in government policies and programs.

''Our recovery package includes support to businesses, to vulnerable communities and an expansion of public works. Our aim is to make all these efforts more effective by making them open. ''

President Buhari recounted that soon after joining this partnership, Nigeria had the privilege of being elected to the OGP Global Steering Committee.

As a leader in the OGP Steering Committee, President Buhari acknowledged that Nigeria has learnt from both government and non-government counterparts on international best practices.

''I am also glad that Nigeria’s pioneering sub-national Open Government Partnership Model has become one of the leading examples driving the expansion of the Open Government Partnership Local Programme.

''Nigeria will also champion the tenets of the Open Government Partnership through our leadership role in regional institutions.

''We aim to expand the partnership on the African Continent by continuing to play a leading role in the International Steering Committee.

''As we look forward to celebrating 10 years of the existence of the Open Government Partnership next year, it is my earnest wish that all countries in the world will adopt Open Government principles and help democracy live up to the expectations of citizens having a voice at and beyond the ballot box, '' he said.

President Buhari thanked the leadership and staff of the OGP Global Support Unit for the enormous work they do to ensure that voices are not only heard but valued.

He encouraged Nigerians to get involved in the OGP and help shape and sustain the country’s democracy now and in the future.
Among those who participated in the virtual event were Heads of State and Government of Argentina, Canada, France, Georgia and Germany as well as civil society leaders who have played a central role in their countries to ensure a full, fair, and inclusive response and recovery.

Politics / Edo Election: "I Didn't Ask Obaseki To Return To APC After Win" - Ize-Iyamu by 9jaBlogger: 9:04am On Sep 24, 2020
The Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu Campaign Organisation has called on the traditional media to perform due diligence in reporting events arising from Edo State, "as unprofessionalism would render them as tools for PDP".

This was in a statement forwarded to Igbere TV by the Director of Communication and Media of the Osagie Ize-Iyamu Campaign Organisation, Mr John Mayaki, who reacted to claims that APC candidate, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu appealed to Governor Godwin Obaseki to return to APC yesterday at a press conference in Abuja.

Mayaki, who noted that nothing of such happened, explained that "the media has once again lent itself to the fabrications of Governor Godwin Obaseki and the PDP, as they did throughout the election."

"We warned several times that the media should beware of fabrications from Obaseki and the PDP camp, but they did not listen. That is why they have reported that the election was free and fair, and that is why they have said our candidate appealed to Obaseki to come back to APC. The video in reference is from three months ago, not after the election but doctored by Governor Obaseki media handlers to seek undue legitimacy”, he disclosed.

He also wondered if the media was being sponsored by Governor Obaseki and the PDP, as it seemed implausible that they actually believed the story. This is even more so, when reporters in Benin city would report Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu who is currently in Abuja where the various media organisations are also domiciled - this is to tell you the suspicion inherent in the viral video.

"Pastor Ize-Iyamu was reported in the stories as speaking from Abuja, but it was the Benin reporters that covered the story. Were the reporters transported to Abuja? Do these media agencies actually believe the stories they carry? Obaseki and the PDP has a way of leaking false news to the media and the media has to be sensitive and professional in receiving these news."

Meanwhile, in the statement made available to Igbere TV, Mayaki also warned that there is a fake twitter account purporting to belong to Pastor Ize-Iyamu, which has been disseminating false information.

He warned the media to avoid it like a plague and verify all their information before passing them on.

He said, "I only wish the media had been more professional during the elections; they were not and what is done is done. They don't know how violent and anti-democratic it was in several parts of Edo State, including Egor in Benin City, and so they reported that the elections were free and fair. At least, going forward, let them verify all news before passing it on. It is the basic ethic of the profession”.

Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, Wednesday night visited his Akwa Ibom State counterpart, Dr. Udom Emmanuel, at the Akwa Ibom Government House, in Uyo.

The visit is coming exactly 3 days after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Obaseki as the winner of the September 19 Edo Governorship election.

Igbere TV correspondent in Uyo reports that the Edo governor was in Akwa Ibom to express gratitude to Diri and the people of the state for their support which made his re-election possible.

Governor Obaseki, who said he remains grateful to Gov Udom, described his victory in the election as a unifying factor for the South-South region of Nigeria.

On his part, Governor Udom Emmanuel said with the “reclaiming” of Edo State by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the South South zone was now “more united.”

Earlier, Governor Obaseki was at the Delta, Bayelsa and Rivers States Government House to thank Governors Ifeanyi Okowa, Douye Diri and Nyesom Wike for the roles they played in his electoral victory.

Obaseki was accompanied by his wife, his deputy, Philip Shuaibu, his wife, PDP National Vice Chairman (South-South), Chief Dan Orbih, Senators and Rep members from the state, top government functionaries and party chieftains among others.

Igbere TV reports that Governor Obaseki defeated Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), 12 other contestants to win the just concluded September 19 Governorship election in Edo state.
