Politics › My Husband Will Tackle Sexual Assault, Care For Victims - Ize-iyamu’s Wife by 9jaBlogger(op): 8:47am On Sep 04, 2020 |
Prof. Idia Ize-Iyamu, the wife of the APC candidate in the Edo guber poll, has said her husband, Osagie Ize-Iyamu, has plans to establish a special victims unit to combat sexual assault and care for survivors of rape and other gender-based violence if elected as Governor on Sept. 19th.
Prof. Ize-Iyamu made the revelation on Thursday while featuring on a popular morning show, "Your View", on Television Continental (TVC), monitored by Igbere TV.
The professor of Orthodontist who recently flagged off a free medical outreach across the three senatorial districts of Edo State to provide access to quality healthcare to residents of communities lacking health centers and personnel, says her husband’s administration will prioritize the care and empowerment of vulnerable groups in the state.
Describing herself as an empowered woman, Prof. Idia praised her husband as a compassionate man who is a strong believer in the capacity of women to inspire change in the society and contribute to growth and development when provided with an enabling environment and offered the right support.
She recounted Pastor Ize-Iyamu’s continuous support and encouragement in her journey to being a Professor following their marriage in 1992 when she had just completed her university education.
“I am an empowered woman because my husband, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, supported me all the way. I had just completed my university education when we got married and he told me not to rest on my oars. He actively supported me in my academic journey to becoming a Professor.”
“At a time in my career, I had to go for posting for two years, and my husband not only allowed it, but also made sure I had all that I needed. There were times when the cost of research became a challenge, as you know funding for research in this part of the world is almost non-existent, and my husband would ask how much I needed to complete my research and provide the funds.”
“Even when I grew tired, he encouraged me and gave me the moral support to continue publishing. He always reminded me of the mantra ‘publish or perish’ and encouraged me to keep going.”
Prof. Idia expressed confidence that Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu has plans to offer similar support and empowerment to all Edo women in their chosen endeavors if he emerges as the Governor.
When quizzed on her husband’s involvement in politics as a clergy, she stressed the importance of having righteous and honest leaders in political office, quoting the Bible book of Proverbs which says ‘when the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn.’
She however clarified that her husband’s spirituality and proven integrity are not his only strong suits, but also his wealth of experience in public service as a former Chief of Staff and Secretary to the State Government, as well as his credentials as a homegrown politician who knows the true problems of the people and the right solutions to them.

Politics › Obaseki Assures Of Violence-Free Election, Wants Electorate To Vote PDP by 9jaBlogger(op): 7:54am On Sep 04, 2020 |
The Edo State Governor and candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has urged eligible voters in the state to come out en masse on Sep. 19 and vote for the PDP.
He said the call to vote for his party became necessary to “enable him consolidate on his achievements in the first term.”
In a statement forwarded to Igbere TV from Office of the Governor, Obaseki also ‘assured’ that the electioneering process will be violence-free.
Addressing party faithful during his reelection campaign rally in Urhonigbe wards 7 and 8, Orhionmwon Local Government Area, Obaseki charged the electorate to turn out without fear of intimidation or harassment to vote and stay back to defend their votes.
“Come out and vote, don’t be afraid as there would be no violence; nobody will fight on that day, come out and vote. I am assuring you as the Chief Security Officer of the state that there will be no violence in Edo during this election. We all made a promise at the palace of His Royal Majesty, Omo N' Oba N' Edo Uku Akpolokpolo, Oba Ewuare II, that there would be no violence during this election," he assured.
The governor continued: “Vote for the PDP and stay back to defend your votes so that your votes will count and when I come back as governor, Urhonigbe Community will receive more attention from my administration.
“We started a rubber plantation in Urhonigbe about a year ago as we have to create jobs for our young ones; we have to create a new economy as we cannot continue relying on crude oil. This election will determine if we will continue to do things that will move us forward or allow all those people who put us where we are, to come back, but God forbid!
“I know your problems here; look at the gully erosion ravaging some parts of this place. I saw it with my eyes and I have to do something about it,” he assured. https://igberetvnews.com/1363456/obaseki-assures-violence-free-election-wants-electorate-vote-pdp/

The parcel of land, according to the governor, is on lease to three new companies coming from Asia, as part of efforts by the government to boost the state’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and create more employment opportunities for residents.
Obaseki, who said this while addressing supporters during his reelection campaign rally monitored by Igbere TV in Abiokunla Ward 1, Orhionmwon Local Government Area of the state, explained that the project would be sited in the area to further open it for more economic activities and better the lives of residents in the LGA.
The governor said the promise to make the state an investment hub and rapidly grow its economy through agriculture remains on course, assuring that his administration will continue to pursue more policies and reforms to ensure an enabling environment where businesses can thrive.
According to the PDP guber candidate, “For agriculture, we have just started. I have approved 50 hectares of farmland to three new companies from Asia for palm oil production".
Obaseki further promised to “restore Orhionmwon back to its original status as the food basket of Edo State, build more infrastructure and ensure the completion of the College of Education and build modern training schools in the area.”
Assuring of his administration's commitment to use available resources to work for the development of the state and the well-being of all citizens, the governor said: “Government money is meant to help the people and better their lives; taxpayers’ money is meant for infrastructural development to improve the living standards of the people and not to be shared.

‘APC may not survive 2023’, lawyer
On his part, a prominent legal practitioner in Imo State, said "what happened in Imo State today(Thursday) is a forerun or foretaste of what may possibly happen to APC in 2023."
He described Ibezim as a “boy” to Governor Hope Uzodinma, describing the primary exercise "a charade, a mockery and an outright joke".
“The two camps in Imo State are engaged in a phony proxy war with one side representing the Amaechi tendencies while the other is holding forte for the Tinubu group.
“APC is in deep troubles. Mark my words. The sort of undemocratic nonsense that party officials foist on members of the party is unbelievable. I will be shocked if this contraption called APC survives Buhari. The schism, mistrust, hate for one other cutting across the entire spectrum of the party is frightening”, the lawyer said.

Politics › Imo By-Election: Drama As 2 APC Candidates Emerge, Party Reacts by 9jaBlogger(op): 7:07am On Sep 04, 2020 |
There was a mild drama on Thursday in Imo state following the emergence of two candidates in a senatorial primaries organised by All Progressives Congress, APC.
The primaries was conducted by the party to elect a candidate to represent the APC at the October 31 by-election for Imo North senatorial district.
Igbere TV however gathered that two separate primaries of the same APC held simultaneously in two different locations in the state, producing two candidates.
In one of the primaries conducted by a faction of the APC, Frank Ibezim scored 13,637 votes to emerge Senatorial candidate.
He was declared winner by the Chairman of the election panel, Senator Ajibola Basiru, who is also the Senate Spokesman.
In another factional APC primary, Senator Ifeanyi Ararume who polled 22,944 votes was declared winner of the contest by a member of the election panel, Umar Gana.
How the Primary Committee split
Before the primary election commenced proper, there was alleged moves by a prominent politician in the state to favour his preferred aspirant to emerge as consensus candidate.
The move was, however, resisted by two members of the Committee including the Secretary whose Primary produced Ararume, while four others and the Committee chairman Primary produced Ibezim.
‘No parallel primary’, says APC
But reacting to the development, Friday, the APC while dismissing the conduct, said there was no primary elections for the Imo north Senatorial election.
The party in a statement forwarded to Igbere TV by its deputy spokesman, Yekini Nabena, said the Senator Ajibola Basiru-chaired Primary Election Committee is the duly appointed and legitimate panel empowered by the Party to conduct the exercise.
APC said the clarification is necessary in view of media reports of a purported “parallel” Primary Election for the legislative By-Election in Imo State.
“Only outcomes from the Senator Surajudeen Ajibola Basiru-chaired Primary Election Committee is tenable and will be accepted by the party,” the party declared.
Igbere TV reports that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) concurrent legislative by-elections (Imo North inclusive) are scheduled for October 31. https://igberetvnews.com/1363448/imo-election-drama-2-apc-candidates-emerge-party-reacts/

Politics › APC Raises Alarm Over Alleged Plot By Obaseki To Obtain N1.5bn Loan by 9jaBlogger(op): 3:27pm On Sep 03, 2020*. Modified: 4:59pm On Sep 03, 2020 |
APC Kicks As Edo Assembly Reportedly Approves N1.5bn Loan For Obaseki Weeks To Election
The All Progressives Congress has accused Governor Godwin Obaseki of obtaining an approval for a 1.5 billion naira loan from his ‘factional legislative Assembly of seven members, out of the elected 24, for illegal vote-buying’ ahead of the Sept. 19 Governorship election.
Mr. John Mayaki, the Chairman of the Edo APC media campaign council, who made the accusation in a statement forwarded to Igbere TV on Thursday, said plans are afoot to cash the loan at a particular commercial bank chaired by a friend of the Governor.
He condemned the Governor’s “dangerous and pathological desperation” and charged anti-graft agencies and civil society groups to block Mr. Godwin Obaseki’s latest attempt to increase the financial toll of his ‘doomed second term’ ambition on the public finances of Edo State.
He said: “After depleting the treasury of Edo State with his constant illegal withdrawals, most notably the 15 billion naira payment to the PDP leadership of tax-collectors for his re-election ticket on the platform of the divided party, the outgoing Governor Godwin Obaseki is now finalizing plans to obtain a 1.5 billion naira loan from a commercial bank for the sole purpose of vote-buying on the 19th of September.”
“This latest move and indication of the Governor’s pathological desperation was reliably communicated to us by a source in his illegal Assembly of seven members out of the 24 elected to represent the people of Edo State.”
“This illegal Assembly of seven members, convening in aberrant and unlawful meetings dictated by the Governor Godwin Obaseki in the Edo State Government House after leading thugs to destroy and desecrate the legislative chambers, quietly received and passed a request for a loan of 1.5 billion naira which the Governor intends to deploy in his planned vote-buying and mobilization of more thugs to orchestrate violence following anticipated defeat in a fair contest.”
Mayaki added that it was “despicable and evil” for the Governor to borrow against future funds for the criminal purpose of rigging after wasting the state’s earned revenue on his “selfish and depraved political ambitions.”
He said the APC, already preparing for governance in expectation of its victory on September 19, will resist every attempt by the “rejected Governor” to compound the woes of the State and leave behind intractable problems that would stall development and growth.
He threatened a petition to the EFCC on the planned loan and urged all civil society groups in Edo State to live up to their mandate of holding the government accountable and combating institutionalized corruption by taking the state government up to task on the said loan.
“We are once again warning all financial institutions in the country and beyond to desist from granting the departing administration of Mr. Godwin Obaseki any new emergency loans, especially if any such request emanates from illegal Assembly where seven persons are claiming to be more and greater than seventeen,” he concluded. Politics › ‘They Wanted To Kill Me’, Oshiomhole Reacts To Accident That Claimed 2 Lives by 9jaBlogger(op): 9:28am On Sep 02, 2020 |
Former National Chairman of the APC, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, has said the Tuesday’s accident which claimed the lives of two policemen was a clear case of assassination attempt on his life.
Igbere TV had reported how Oshiomhole, a former governor of Edo state, narrowly escaped death by the whiskers on Tuesday when a trailer ram into his convoy in Benin City, the Edo state capital.
Two policemen were, however, unlucky as they lost their lives in the crash which occurred after the Benin by-pass by Oluku junction, while on their way to a campaign rally at Usen, with other leaders of the APC.
We had also reported that two others are in critical condition receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital, while Oshiomhole and other persons in the convoy, did not sustain any injuries.
Reacting, Oshiomhole in a statement forwarded to Igbere TV Tuesday endorsed by his senior media aide, Victor Oshioke, said it was a clear case of assassination attempt on his life.
“It is pertinent to state, without fear of contradiction, that the convoy of Comrade Adams Oshiomhole was maintaining legal speed limits when this incident occurred. This explains why the trailer, travelling in the same direction over-ran the Hilux truck off the road and still hit the SUV carrying Comrade Oshiomhole.
“Without prejudice to police investigations, eyewitnesses account of the incident suggest, and we believe rightly too, that this was an assassination attempt, targeting Comrade Adams Oshiomhole,” Oshioke alleged.
“It is painful that innocent policemen performing their legal duties lost their lives in this very unfortunate incident.
“While we pray for the quick recovery of the injured policemen, we extend our condolences to the families of the departed,” the statement added.
Igbere TV gathered that Oshiomhole has since visited the injured in the hospital and deployed some of his aides to be on standby to ensure that the wounded policemen are given the best medical attention possible.
A police source in the state told our correspondent that “the case was immediately reported at the Ekiadolor police station”, and that “investigations are ongoing.”
The statement, therefore, called on the security agencies to “do everything possible to unravel the circumstances surrounding this incident, especially because of the threat to the life of Comrade Adams Oshiomhole and the violence which has been directed towards him and those around him in recent times.”
On how the accident happened, Oshioke narrated the “trailer driving in the same direction (with Oshiomhole) veered off its course, hit the back up Toyota Hilux vehicle carrying 7 policemen, forcing it off the road, into the bush and rammed into the Sports Utility vehicle carrying Comrade Oshiomhole.”

Senate Chief Whip, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu on Monday declared that he won't hesitate to serve the country as president in 2023 if given the opportunity by the people(electorates).
“I am still in the Senate, and I will seek for re-election into the Senate (in 2023), but if our people want me to serve as President I will not hesitate,” he said.
Kalu made the declaration during a private visit to two former leaders of Nigeria, Gen. Ibrahim Babangida (rtd.) and Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar (rtd.), in Minna, the Niger state capital.
Kalu, a former Governor of Abia State, also said that zoning is not a Constitutional matter but party affairs, adding that his party, the APC could not have zoned the presidency.
“Zoning is a party issue, every party has the right to say where they want a position to come from but in APC, there is no issue of zoning. Anybody can contest for the presidency,” he told reporters.
Senator Orji Kalu was released from the Kuje Correctional Centre in June after spending five months in prison following his 'wrongful' incarceration.
Kalu was the governor of Abia Statefrom May 1999 to May 2007 before his election as Senator representing Abia North senatorial district in 2019.
Igbere TV had reported how Senator Orji Kalu arrived Minna, the 'power' state on Monday at exactly 2pm alongside political friends, associates and retinue of aides.
The former governor met privately with with former Nigerian leaders, General Abdusalami Abubakar (rtd.) and General Ibrahim Babangida (rtd.) almost immediately.
He also met privately with the Emir of Minna, Dr Umar Faruq at his Minna palace, the Niger State capital and expected to meet Governor Abubakar Sani Bello of Niger State.
Speaking on the reason for his visit to the Emir of Minna, Senator Kalu who described the visitation as “private”, said he was at the palace to see his “brother”, Emir Faruq.
For that of Babaginda, the senator said he went to congratulate his “boss” on his health, and also to felicitate with Abdulsalami who recently celebrated his birthday.
