Algeria’s Djamel Haimoudi has been confirmed as the referee for the third-place match of the ongoing 2014 FIFA World Cup between Brazil and The Netherlands on Saturday.

A statement from FIFA Media Office said Haimoudi will become the first Confederation of African Football (CAF) referee to officiate a third-place match of a FIFA World Cup.

“The match will be the 43-year-old’s fourth task at the competition after the group stage matches between Australia and The Netherlands, and Costa Rica and England.

“He also handled the Round of 16 match between Belgium and the U.S.

“In his career, Haimoudi oversaw two matches in last year’s FIFA Confederations Cup, also in Brazil, and he was selected for the FIFA Club World Cup in Japan in 2012.

“He was also selected for the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Colombia in 2011.

“Haimoudi also has notable experience in his confederation CAF, taking charge at three editions of the Africa Cup of Nations — in 2008, 2012 and 2013.

“At the end of the most recent edition in 2013, he refereed Nigeria versus Burkina Faso in the final.

“Finally, the Algerian officiated four more important final matches, including the deciders for the CAF Champions League 2008, 2012 and 2013 and the CAF Super Cup 2008,’’ the statement said.(NAN)

The Service of Songs organised by colleagues of late gospel singer, Kefee Obareki Don-Momoh, has begun. The service is holding at the Oba Akenzuwa Cultural Centre in Benin City, Edo State.

Some of the stars present at the event include Sammie Okposo, Maleke, Victor Uwaifo, Godfada D Comedian, Stanley Orobosa, Oduwa Imaseun (DGN), Franchise and many others.

reliably learnt that husband of the deceased, Teddy Esosa Don-Momoh, is presently not at the event. He is said to have just arrived Nigeria from the US. This magazine learnt he will be present for Friday’s burial, which holds in Delta State.

However, Teddy’s sister is said to be present at the ongoing event in Benin City.

President Jonathan has nominated the current boss of the Federal Road Safety Commission FRSC, 43 year old Ositadinma Benjamin Chidoka as a Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to represent Anambra in the Federal Executive council.

According to reports, Chidoka is most likely to replace former Minister of Aviation, Stella Oduah who resigned her position in February. A letter of his nomination has been sent to the Nigerian Senate and would be read on the floor of the Senate today. Abubakar Olanrewaju from Kwara state was also nominated and would replace former Sports minister, Bolaji Abdullahi, in the Federal Executive Council if confirmed by the senate.

A newly completed hall built by the Osun State government inside Ejigbo High School in Ejigbo, Osun state has collapsed. The building collapsed around 6am yesterday July 9th as workers were putting finishing touches to it in order to meet up with the Friday date for the commissioning.

The Police Public Relations Officer for Osun state, Mrs. Folasade Odoro, said the school building collapsed following a heavy wind on Wednesday morning. Two people were injured. Continue...

Osun State governor, Rauf Aregbesola, reacted to the incident via a statement he released through his media aide, Mr. Semiu Okanlawon.

"The Government of the State of Osun regrets to inform members of the public about the suspect incidence of the collapse of the main hall of the newly completed ultra-modern Ejigbo High School.

“Information at the disposal of the government indicates that the main hall which had been completed along with other classrooms of the school came down at about 6am Wednesday after a loud bang.

“As a responsible government, it is too early for us to say what the exact cause of the collapse is until we have full investigations and advice of professionals.
“However, it must be stated here that all necessary quality assurance tests were carried out to ensure structural durability and integrity of the project.

“Engineers from the Osun Ministry of Works and engineers from the Structural Engineering section of the Nigerian Society of Engineers have been dispatched to the site to establish the real cause of this unfortunate incident.”
