What the hell do you mean by lower tier of greats? Have I stumbled on the wrong argument? I could have sworn this whole thing came from a logic used to describe Boateng. Is Boateng a great now?
You don't know there are levels to greatness?

Boateng is a great now, the average EPL and Chelsea fan consider Gianfranco Zola of all people a great how much more a treble and World Cup winner like the Boa-TANK

nateevs:
Help me here. So Dennis Bergkamp, Ballon d'Or 3rd place and 2nd place back to back years cannot be considered in this discussion because he hasn't won a major international title but Boateng can? shocked shocked

I am out mate. I have little time for NL these days and cannot be spending it on arguments like these.
Balon D'Or counts for little. Andrea Pirlo has never finished in the top 2. Beckham has done so twice! Mueller has never finished in the top 2 or 3 but he is certainly better than Bergkamp. And yes in the pantheon of greatness Bergkamp's lack of an international title would always see him rank just below.

No need for announcement.

Boateng didn't dominate any final. He was just another team member.

JT made fifas TOTT in 2006 although England crashed out in quarter finals. Boateng couldn't make it even when his team won the cup.
Let us get to this TOTT you have been on about ad nauseaum. I would even sidestep the fact that he had no business being on the list to begin with but let's take a cursory glance at the teams John Racist faced

Paraguay
Trinidad and Tobago
Sweden
Ecuador

It is lol-worthy that anyone would brag about performances against any of these teams listed above

In 2010 he was DESTROYED by a Thomas Mueller who could not even legally buy beer. Is that who you are comparing to Boa-TANK?

Pedro has won everything that Messi has won...plus World Cup and Euros.

Pedro is also not from a traditional 'footballing power' like Messi.

Goetze has scored in World Cup Final. Messi has not.

Therefore Pedro>>Messi. Goetze >>Messi.
.
Pedro does not even start for Spain. He is a spare-tire

Boa-TANK is not a spare-tire

Messi has helped his team to a Final. John Racist has not gotten that far, John Racist does not have multiple CL medals

Compare like for like Bros

. That play it was Per Mertersacker one of EPL best defenders who screwed up on the half way line
Boateng chased him his team was leading by 7 goals with a few mins to go and on their way to the final A smart defender knows well to leave him and let him score rather than tackle and risk a card
Lol logic is foreign to that bonobo monkey. Germany were 7-0 up in the 89th minute. Where was Oscar and why didn't he pull this stunt when the game was 0-0, 1-0 or even 2-0

Let him go and remove the WC medal from Boa-TANK's neck.

He has not just been Fortunate, He was a key component of those defences. I know you see individual awards as nothing more than popularists opinions(i do at times) but you also should consider the fact that these said nominees must have done/or be doing something right to have their names mentioned in the first place.
It seems the entire nation of England can never be fortunate. It seems like its karma for their epic heist in 66
(Not like I believe in karma anyway, just believe they can't hack it)

I don't judge players on individual awards, I look at wins and the roles the players played in them. Some players will retire and never get their due credit others will be severely overrated
and get more than they deserve. The denominator is how much success have you been able to help your club and country achieve. The Boa-TANK has helped his club and country to 4 International titles in 3 years. If such a player is yet to win an individual award then individual awards count for zilch.

chic2pimp:
Regarding my Henry/Terry analogy, have a good look at Nateev's post. He explains it fully. Also FA cup is a major international competition abeg. It might not be one here on NL, but around the world, it is still highly rated and watched.
You should never use Henry to defend John Racist, their paths are not the same. Henry might not have shone at Finals but he at least helped his team there, John Racist was sent off when Chelsea were down 2-0 and missed the UCL Final, Chelsea won it in his absence. Henry has a Euro and WC title, John Racist has not gotten to the semis of either tournament. Gigantic difference

The FA cup is a local competition. I don't care how rated it is its still not an international tournament. Only teams from England can play in it. No?

Baba na WC I ask you about. I no mention Euros. Tell me what Henry's contribution was in the WC (tournament and final) seeing as you mentioned it to make a point.

Then proceed to tell me how Shevchenko has "helped" his team past the QF of a major tournament for his country. And let me spare you the time of coming back with the "Football Powerhouse" thing. Tell us how Dennis Bergkamp may be considered less of a football great as he never won WC, Euros or CL.
Euros is a major International tournament so it definitely counts

I have listed Henry's contribution for you in the previous posts. Please refer to them

Secondly John Racist is yet to even get to the Semi-finals of any national tournament so that disqualifies your juxtaposition with Henry. Intoto

Shevchenko is not from a footballing power state. They made their first WC in 2006! Haven't gotten there since Comparing Ukraine to England is Pass Interference. Plus Shevchenko actually helped his team to a CL, Chelsea won theirs in John Racist's absence

Dennis Bergkamp is a great in his own right but in the lower tier of greats, you need a major international title to be in that discussion. The rest is all sentiments and fantasies

Abeg stop making me laugh here. This must be the joke of the century.

So Mats Hummels was sleeping when your Boateng was keeping watch? Lol..

Go and google TOTT and see if ANY WEBSITE place Boateng above Hummels in the CB position. Post the link here if you see any.

Hahahaha.... Under Boateng's watch indeed!
Under Boa-TANK's watch!!

Germany conceded the same number of goals when Boa-TANK and Hummels were on the pitch but Boa-TANK played a lot more minutes. If it were down to Hummels alone Germany would have lost that Final

I have told you before that I don't give a rat's a$$ about TOTT. David Lulz whose defence leaked 10 goals in 2 games made the list so that destroyed every ounce of credibility it could have

The analogy is simple. And it is that Henry has never performed excellently in a final or should I say as your mate Dayo puts it "dominated in a final" . . but Drogba has time and again. So did this fact ever make Drogba more highly rated than Henry throughout their careers?
We are talking about major international competitions not Milk Cup, Ojude Oba Cup and the likes

Drogba has 1 Final success out of 4. Hell he couldn't even dominate a final vs freaking Zambia,

nateevs:
Henry is a WC winner. Fine. But what was his contribution to the final and in the final? It's funny how you guys pick and choose which argument is suitable. Just boring us over and over with this sh1t for over 4 months now.
Euro 2000 Henry was France's highest goalscorer and scored in the semis that they won 2-1

Germany 2006 Henry was France's highest goalscorer and scored the lone goal that sent his country to the semis

John Racist has never helped his team past the quarter-final of any major tournament for his country, so how does the comparison with Henry come about?

nateevs:
Just stop this "Kazeem has won the UCL, he must be better than Kareem" rubbish!

Next folks will be putting Stephane Guivarch and Ibrahimovic in the same bracket of strikers because the former won the WC. There's a reason why individual awards are given.
This your analogy na offside! Pass interference

Ibrahimovic is not from a traditional football power Terry is from one

Guivarch has no career of note for club but the Boa-TANK does.

Not hiding here; my first posts in a while.

I get your point but I still rate Boateng higher. I actually think Boateng doesn't get the required plaudits because he is an African playing for a country that was once ruled by Hitler and the Nazis. If Boateng had so many vulnerabilities, Germany would have considered more goals enroute to the finals and may not have even won the cup.

But I guess we get to agree to disagree on Boateng but agree on Terry. grin
Boa-TANK has come a long way. His first season and parts of his second season at Bayern I would never have mentioned him among the elite. Absolutely not

However there's no need for Jigi Bola to recognize the boy has become a reliable rock in the heart of defence for teams that have gone on to win a UCL and a World Cup. Of course he is good for an error in a game but show me that defender who isn't

I have no care for individual awards or plaudits. Bayern is filled with players who never got their due credit in their playing days and I know better than to judge players on that

You totally hit the nail on the head. If Boateng is so bad then why on earth is he a surefire starter for two of the best teams in football. I wanna know like Meek Mill

With regards to the Henry comparison, you do know He is yet to score in a major final whilst DD has done that a number of times right?
He is a product of English hype. He has not only played in ultra-defensive system but also been fortunate to have exceptionally good defensive partners

When he had to play in a more expansive setup we all saw the result, John Terry became a laughing stock

Henry is a WC and Euro winner, scratch FA cup finals we are talking about major Finals in International competitions, Drogba's record is 1/4. Terry is not Henry so I don't quite get the analogy

Your Jerome boatank has never won any individual award, not even from his club Bayern munich, yet the id,iot will be 27 next month. You are a t.wat.
Shut up your cess-hole you malignant gnat! What was Chelsea's standing in world football in 2001 that being tagged their player of the year amounted to anything! My point still stands that John Terry was a nobody till Carvalho's arrival while Carvalho was already a UCL and Europa League winner while also helping his nation to a Euro Final.

John Racist was a product of hype and as we've gone on to see all his teams have gone on to achieve success in his absence

Boa-TANK does not need any individual award to validate his greatness same way Busquets does not need individual award to validate his ability! They are arbitrary with no clear metric on how they are determined. Only a bushpig like you would use that to downgrade a player who are key cogs in the wheels of success for their team. Is it the same Boateng who struggled to adapt to the rigors of the premier league while he was with City while Terry marshaled Chelsea to numerous titles thus had to be shipped to Germany where weekly matches are not as fierce as the EPL? And please don't give me that flimsy excuse that he was still young, the truth was he was not good enough to make the team, the rigors of the league were immense, his only chance of making the German national team was to head back to Germany.
More like rigor-mortis. What is rigorous about a league Lukaku, Andre Ayew and Wilfried Bony are beasting or have beasted? His injury woes were well documented and he was 22 at the time. If Mertesacker and Kompany are sonning your league then there is not much to be said about it

Roland17:
Boateng won the World Cup with Germany but was not worthy of being listed amongst the best players during the World Cup, he did not even make the sub bench for the FIFA best eleven.
Opinion polls count for zilch! Boa-TANK was a key man in Germany's title winning run. Conceding only two garbage time goals in almost 10 and a half hours of football whenever he set foot on the pitch. Certain players never get the credit where its due

Roland17:
In his prime, John Terry is proven in Europe, even last season when Chelsea won the league aged 33 he was spectacular for his age, his inconsistencies with the national team is a collective mess the English national team has suffered since the advent and inproportional explosion of the premier league compared to the stability and presence of genuine young prospects the Germans enjoy.
John Terry is one of the most overhyped players in the history of football! He has been extremely fortunate to play in one of the most defensive systems known to man. He was horribly exposed when another coach came and tried to play more expansive football it was so bad he was one of the instigators of the firing of said coach. Mou's negative system made a washed-up Walter Samuel and Lucio look like Baresi and Beckenbauer. That says it all

The explosion of the Premier League has nothing to do with the sheer lack of football talent available. Their young players would shine through if they were any good but they aren't that's why EPL clubs would rather buy washed up Falcao, Cuadrado, Pedro and others buy Yaya Sanogo. You mean to tell me these guys are so good no decent British player can displace them?

They are all overhyped and overrated
