True. To be a practicing safety professional in Nigeria, you need to be a member of ISPON (according to the ISPON Act) and to be a member of ISPON, you must present your GHSE and Level 3 (ISPON certs) for documentation. Blanc8: ISPON wouldn't accept... Basic requirement for membership is that you must have completed GHSE and HSE level 3 with them... This cert are to be photocopied and attached to the membership form (29,000) |

Eyen mmakakara, send me a pm and I would tell u how to go about it. ibibiofirstlady: I observe that participants dont't redeem their PH pledge on MMM. I have almost 200 thousand naira with them. I requested help (GH) on the 14th and I have been matched and rematched, yet none of those people have paid even a kobo. Though I am not "poor" but I need back my money. Someone on palmchat advised me to forget it but I just can't.
I don't know whether I am the only one facing this challenge. |

Education › Re: How To Achieve High Scores On The GRE by aamstih: 5:16pm On Jan 16, 2017 |
O"Greene is a good man, he would surely share his tips, advice, tools and strategies for posterity sake. He just needs to unwind, trust me. Scholastica16: There is a reason this thread was started and to that end, why we come here to report scores and share tips. May be you think it is to gloat or appear scholarly but you'd be sorely mistaken.
People generally report scores so that others could among other things:
1. Learn what they did to achieve such scores 2. Help evaluate the profiles 3. Recommend schools, tips, scholarships etc.
You have seen others give reports on their GRE experiences and in doing so, thank certain people. It is beyond establishing contacts away from NL. I am almost certain people did that because of the information they gained from such people that aided their preparations and eventual success(es).
Consequently, I am disappointed that you who at various points sought and gained tidbits here that must have helped you attain your score decided to keep mum with the report you owe the house. Perhaps, you may think your account would make no difference but you should also take note, that everyone's experience and preparation would not be exactly alike. Afterall, we have seen people who got a composite of 310 and yet their experiences were completely different. |

Education › Re: How To Achieve High Scores On The GRE by aamstih: 10:34pm On Jan 15, 2017 |
Oga, congrats on your 'WOW' score, I was aiming for 320 but you've just made increase my target to 330 . Pls at bolded, are you in anyway referring to the stipend that you would receive as a TA or GA? Congratulations on your great score once again. Time2Smile: Do not quit your job please. Since you are applying for fall 2018, You have at least 10 months to prepare you application since most early application starts by October. What you need is a disciplined schedule to study for both the GRE and TOEFL. I know your work can be hectic, But consistent study for 2 hours a day plus weekend would be enough.
You would be surprised how quickly everything adds up. About 100,000 for GRE and TOEFL , App fee to maybe 4 schools ranging from $60 to $100 each, Transcript fee from Nigeria University (My undergrad school requires 50,000 Naira to send transcripts abroad. One of the reasons I don't apply to schools that require hard copy of official transcript). Sevis fee, visa fee, International passport (If you don't have one yet) and other sundry fees However, on an encouraging note, even if we take all these expenses to be 400,000 Naira, That is less than a month stipend once someone lands in the U.S. So I would say let's do this. Yes We can.
I plan to send the scores to 1) KAUST 2) University of Toronto, Canada. (They require 80th percentile in both Quant and Verbal). A top school that I really like and it was one of the reasons I decided to write GRE. 3) University of Houston (Deadline is February 1 with guaranteed funding for PhD) 4) I am presently researching a suitable school with late deadline, Though considering University of Maryland, College Park but their application deadline is January 17, and the school seems very competitive and late submission might jeopardize my chances. |

WOW, I am glad to finally meet someone in my field. Pls which institution did you obtain your M.Sc? Ndawe: Hello House. I wrote the GRE sometime in 2012 and it's due to expire July this year. Is it better I just re-write, seeing that the result is far back, even though it's still valid? I want to pursue a PhD in Environmental studies (BSc Industrial Chem, First Class and MSc in Energy/Environmental Mgt, merit). Being that most funding opportunities are for fall semester, rather than spring or summer + I'm fretting about having to read for the GRE, what advice do you have for me please? Thank you. |

Pls kindly through more light at the bolded, when you say "starts coming" do you imply from home (our country Nigeria) or from the school, based on your T.A or G.A involvements? If it is the later can you pls give a possible range. Thank you sirRiddy: Depends on your income and fees you have to pay per semester. My semester fees which include subsidised health insurance fee(145), engineering equipment fee (171) and campus privilege fees(340) totals 656 dollars Rent here is usually around 300 but can be as high as 600 depending on your taste. Also, most accommodation would require a one-time deposit before you sign a lease. Mine was 400 dollars. Grocery should be less than 100. Utilities also depend on where you live. I pay for light (25 dollars) and phone bills (40 dollars). Unless I overspend or have emergency expenditure, my monthly spending usually does not exceed 500 dollars.
In bigger cities like Austin, Boulder, or the east and west coast cities, the cost of living is higher. However, grad students earn higher too to offset these expenses. If you have about 1500 dollars before you arrive, you will be pretty comfortable before stipends start coming in. |
