Hello friends, please my friend @andreeroo needs your help
All suggestions is welcome - please see his post below, he's still finding his way around nairaland so i offered to help him post on here too.
Hello everyone,
I honestly need urgent help concerning my current status in the Canadian immigration process.
I am current in the EE pool with a CRS of 459 since August 2019 (I just achieved this after the 7th attempt on IELTS which I was missing a 0.5 in my writing (6.5) module in every attempt). Going past August 2019 the CRS cut-off has been on a high and currently is 473 as at this period (8th Jan, 2020). During my wait I have also explored the PNP option and applied for an EOI in Saskatchewan and Manitoba which I scored 63/100 and 575/1000 respectively under NOC 2171.
I got advise from friends to go through the educational route (this appears to be expensive and even if you get admission there’s a 50% chance of Visa rejection).
In summary, I have max’ed out on my IELTS scores, Really terrible in learning French Age 33, till May 2020 EOI Scores : Saskatchewan - 63/100 Manitoba - 575/1000 I am single and have a masters degree (ECA report received from WES - Jan, 2019) Medical report - Sept 2019
I would like to leverage on anyone’s expertise, experience and advise on a way to conclude this process I have been on this for over 4 years, thanks in advance. |

Oh yes i am Collintos: Hi all,
I too would like to share my personal experience for the benefit of those who are thinking about immigration; I moved to Canada last year, August 2018 to be precise. I am in my early 30s, born and brought up in Mumbai (one of the biggest city in the world), India.
Back in India: I used to work at an MNC as an AVP; my daily life was like waking up at 6 a.m. getting ready and then the everyday struggle to get in the local train from the suburbs (coz even with a 7 figure salary I couldn’t afford a home in the city and though I had a car I never took it to work considering the stress of driving in the insane traffic and the condition of the road). I used to reach work at 9 a.m., continue working for 10 to 12 hrs (it’s a norm here) and then again struggle to board the train from the city back to the suburbs (the whole crowd moves in the same direction yet the authorities don’t care neither the crowd). Once back by 9–10 p.m, I used to spend some time with my friends depending on their availability and my timing, have dinner and then go to sleep.
Here in Canada: I struggled a lot initially but after 4 months of patience, hard work, a lot of research & networking and a few certifications I got a job (I moved from finance into IT industry and from being an AVP to a Manager). Also, I moved to a smaller city in the scenic Okanagan Valley (kind of Goa in India) that has an amazing weather for most part of the year; rather than settling in big cities like Toronto or Vancouver (preferred destination by many immigrants). I earn a 5 figure salary but in CADs of course and I live in a house (bungalow as we call in Mumbai). I wake up at 6 a.m. as usual but here I have time to offer my prayers in peace, prepare as well as relish the tasty breakfast before leaving for work at 7:30 and the best part, I walk to work [I don’t have a car here coz I didn’t clear the driving test (twice), and eventually when I get it, I still won’t drive to work; 1. There is a 6 month or probably a years waiting for parking space in my office building 2. I live just 20 mins walking distance from work, that’s hardly 5–10 mins on bicycle and 15–20 mins by bus]. I work from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. (it’s a norm here) and I am back home by 5:30 p.m. then I enjoy the rest of my day reading in the local library or playing badminton/ working out in the nearby club/ fitness center or take a nice stroll along the lake front that’s hardly 5 mins from my home.
It’s just been 6 months for me in Canada but I have enjoyed every bit of it, right from the struggle of getting a relevant job to appearing & reappearing for my driving tests, making new friends (from different nationalities) to shoveling snow from the walkway around my house. I do miss my family and friends a lot but then life is all about give and take, I prefer this life over the one back in India where I have my family and friends but hardly had any time to spend with them or with myself.
Hope you are happy now |

Hi Melody, i have Brampton on my COPR but i settled in Regina, i don't even know the way to Brampton. Melodyy19: Hello everyone
Please does one have to land in the place of destination written on their COPR, if they didn't get a provincial nomination?
My COPR says Alberta, Calgary but I intend on settling in Ontario instead. |

Happy immigration to you too iaatmguy: no basis for comparison, especially from third word country immigrants like India and co, then we remember those immigrating from a nearly failed state like Nigeria .if you know you enjoy court order being flouted, death traps called roads, paying for road worthiness for plying a swamp, booby trap roads, have a rethink about relocating to the great north white. Canada no be heaven, but no be from mouth of a Nigerian, we suppose dey hear that one.
Happy immigration to all and sundry |

Congratulations iPopAlomo, people are always scared of starting from the scratch. Canada no won send you even if you're a manager before you left Naija, you must be humble to climb that ladder but that "we have moved on with other candidates" dey pain Thanks for sharing, but wait did i see 42% iPopAlomo: I been no wan talk before... But at this point... I need to share to some ghost reader that'll be needing this sometime in the future.
I'll be starting a new role on Monday... Dream job that comes with all the PERKS of a big company downtown OTTAWA.
It wasn't easy, I'll be honest but plenty observation and work got me in... and if you ask me... Most of them follow me come from Nigeria.
Unlike most people... I had no friends and/or family living in Canada. So that itself shows say nah Baba God follow me come.
But the biggest decision i took coming here was emptying my cup... I had to start from scratch... I got a job less than a month of landing that pays a little over minimum wage... It paid the bills, i am a good cook and I was comfy. but that no be wetin carry me come here as iyawo dey UK... I was always looking for that oppurtunity. Three months in my old role... I started Job hunting again... I got a juicy position with NCR and i got dropped for not having a G licensce... (I got my G - licence a month and a half later, re-applied to NCR, only if they call me tomorrow or something). I got another interview with survey monkey (Fortune 500 company), I did the networking, added people on linkedin, met people for coffee, did the due diligence, I know I did well... only to be told my SaaS skill wasn't Canadian enough.... That shii pained me... That shiii pained me entyer blood because i knew that was a stupid excuse to drop me after doing really well...
So I decided to cool job hunting till next year when a certain job I applied to back in June and already sent me the "We're moving on with other qualified candidates email" dusted my file on their shelf and asked me if i was still interested in the position two months after the fact.
See these people Oooo... Sure... Phone interview and assessment went smooth... It was billed for 15 minutes but we ended up talking for 45 minutes... This Hr woman (God bless her soul) is in Alberta. They have a branch in each city of every province in Canada and deep down I'm sure she was the one that push my application through. I digressed... ... Back to my story... I'm sure I aced my assessment as well and i was scheduled for the office interview... After every every... the managers were so impressed they told me we were two top candidates vying for a single position and asked me if i spoke french... I knew there was a problem... Ottawa is very bilingual as most jobs here are servicing French and English speaking people... besides it is the capital... Long story short... I got dropped again by the same company and i zeroed my mind till next year as I won't be hoping about for Interviews.
Last week of October... the HR called me and said... If i'm still interested, they'll like to commence background check... na so I approve and I got the job and i'll be resuming on Monday in a new role from Downtown not too far from where i live.
My point is, after my plenty story is that... There is absolutely nothing wrong in starting all over again... and doing your job wherever you find yourself in truth and satisfying your conscience. I had used my time at my small role to build for my future, I didn't get involve in office politics... i don't have a crew/clique... as I mingled with everyone, white, brown, Asians, Africans and aliens. Then my English wasn't very Nigerian. It's more British than Nigerian...
If you're religious... God has showered his grace upon me... and If you're not, I have been really lucky... Everyone story is different... Believe in your heart you'll reap what you sowed and all will be well.
Canada is cold... But it isn't that bad... i'm a game person... so if I see game... half of the world's problem is solved... that's where PS4 comes in handy... Iyawo wa... lol... and i see the disappointment on their faces when i mention I'm not available... It's a struggle to be casual as I really do... I go out sometimes... I buy a bottle of something strong at 42% at LCBO as Alomo is not available, I get invited to parties by everyone and relive moments and I uber home.
Everyone has a different perspective to Canadian life, My Landlord is 25/26 Indian guy, works with the government, has two houses and does UBER. I have a job just above minimum wage and i haven't found a reason to do UBER yet. My credit score is 708 and this is my Canadian story in 8 months...
You and you alone know the reason you made the move... do not let someone else's pity story discourage you... and trust me.. I've seen the homeless wandering downtown... it's not all fun and games but different strokes for different folks... a bad decision can render one homeless here... but that's story for another day.
general advice... Do not buy anything you cannot afford to pay off once... the only sort of financing i'll encourage anyone to have is a MORTGAGE. c'est fini...
I'm planning on learning french but that's next year program... right now omo olomo just wants to rest.
P.s:
Shout Out to my momsy... I was raised like a foreigner in Nigeria... perks of being an Ajebutter I guess. Peace!!!

People have different experiences, with the few months I have spent here I can agree with the 2nd and 3rd post but I do not totally agree with everything in the 1st post. Let me share my little experience with job search. I came in July this year and after staying with my host for about 3 weeks plus I got an apartment of my own which means paying rent and other bills. I had to eat humble pie to take up an accounts clerk role of 3months just for the so called “Canadian experience” and to pay my bills, no savings. I was working with a multinational company, though as a contract staff and earning average of 400k per month depending on days worked.
I got an interview invite for a government job in September after passing a 2 hour long test and I told myself this one “we die there”. The interview went pretty well and I was able to answer their questions excellently, I suppose. Note that this interview lasted for over 1 hour, yes over an hour. After the interview, I was told to submit my references and they told me what I was to earn for the 9 months period, its not even a full time job. One of the interviewers asked of the location of the multinational I worked with and I told her Nigeria, I could see the look on her face. Long story short, I didn’t get a call back from them for several weeks and I had to call them to find out. I was told they have offered the job to a more qualified person. Few days after, there was another opening for the same role, same JD, the only difference was that it was a full time position. I applied and I was not called for test or interview and when I sent an email to them to inquire, I was told I didn’t pass the eligibility test. Isn’t that laughable, same opening that I passed the eligibility test few weeks ago. Its really sad but we keep pushing.
My contract with the company I work for will end next week as its just a backfill for someone on maternity leave so no hope of a contract extension. I have been interviewed by different employment counsellors and as usual they give their advise, check your resume out and advise you to keep applying. Has it been rosy and sweet so far, no. Will I do it again if given the opportunity, BIG FAT YES. If you compare the extreme poor conditions we live in Nigeria you would have a rethink, the rich is not even left out. I’m not there yet but I know I will get there soon enough.
For those coming into Canada, you really need that POF trust me and God help you if you’re coming during winter. Do not let any bad experience some people had in the past to deter you from gunning for your dreams. So many people have also made it big here. In as much as Canada’s gates is still wide open you can come if you want to.
I’m a single guy, regarding the loneliness part it’s a story for another day, let me get back to work and keep applying for my dream job. |

Hey Salford, i live in the Greens in Regina, i came in July and landed in Regina. People ask me why Regina and i tell them its nice and quiet salford1: I have been thinking of how to answer this question. I would type a response, then decide to ignore.
Well, who "not boring" epp?
Some of us came to Canada for better living and a quality lifestyle, not to chase excitement, or look for events to increase our adrenaline or HBP - Lagos has plenty of that.
Infact, after arriving Canada, some of us even move into more quiet areas to live an even more boring life, like some of the naija folks I have met in my new city of residence .
I moved from Calgary to a city of 16k people by what I will call stroke of luck, and now that we have had several opportunities to move back to a bigger city - Calgary inclusive, we would back track when we think if what we would be leaving behind. Things like driving from home to work places under 10 minutes, kids schools under 10minutes, doctor and hospital - under 10minutes: Infact the doc is only one call away, emergency-out of hospital under 30minutes, cheaper housing and living expenses (for the 1st time, we were able to bank over 100k within a year since moving to Canada, this was after taking out expenses, including hols outside the country), kids daycare under 10min, very flexible working hours, a drive to farms to buy better chicken, beef and goat - under 20minutes, going to malls - under 10minutes, kids taekwondo and swimming classes - under 10minutes, prime amazon delivery gets stuffs to our doorstep, low crime rate etc. I am driving to Regina today for a work meeting and already dreading the small Regina traffic.
On public holidays, we Nigerians (docs, specialists, engineers, pharms, accountants, others still in licensing process, and those looking to God for good jobs etc) in our boring city gather together to party, cook, drink, merry, and discuss about naija. After hols, we return to our boring city lifestyle of taking care of our families.
We might move back to a bigger city later, but we want to enjoy this boring lifestyle to the fullest first , and when we do move back to an exciting city or country, it won't be for excitement seeking reasons. |

Yes, send only your advance diploma to WES and the transcript of course. In my case, i did my Bsc ECA with IQAS and AAT cert with WES. I just did a letter of explanation and a table to show how they both are 2 or more certificate even though they are from different bodies. I hope this helps Blessings. Teecol: Please how do I go by this, I have advanced diploma in theology. Am I sending the copy of the diploma only? Pls shed more light on the steps and what is required. Thanks |

I can confirm that i did this. LecturerIFE: Not necessary. Since he has an ECA from IQAS for his degree, he should evaluate just the diploma with WES. He's able to claim two or more certificates with this.
We are allowed to combine ECAs from different bodies provided the ECAs aren't for the same degree.

It depends on the kind of diploma certificate you wanna evaluate. If you have ICAN just don't bother, it won't get a favourable evaluation. Blessings Canada001: I just started this journey and need some advice please:
Does evaluating a certifiCate or diploma add any points?
And can I evaluate more than one certificate or diploma? Does it increase my points?
Thanks guys! |

I saw the highlighted while doing my research on how to bring a spouse to Canada as a permanent resident. Is it not possible to apply for PR for your spouse and while the application is in the pipeline apply for a work permit for her since work permit get approved within few months compared to PR for spouse that takes almost or over a year

What if Mr A has a different date on his certificate but has been qualified to take up the role after completion of his studies. What I mean by a different date is like a future date. GlitteringStar: I don't get this....CIC's website says "The applicant does not need to demonstrate that they meet the “employment requirements” listed in the NOC occupational description".
My point is that one can claim points for any work experience gained while studying for the FSW program. I will explain with an example.
Example: Mr A finished his OND program in 2013. Thereafter, he gained admission to a university via direct entry to study Anthropology. He got a teaching job when he was in school which he did while studying and later graduated. He read about FSW program while surfing the internet. However, Mr A is not sure if can use the work experience he gained when he was in the university to claim points.
The answer to this is that Mr A can claim points for the work experience. Note: For the question "Date XYZ first became qualified to practice in this occupation " Mr A will use the date written on his OND certificate and not the one written on his BSc certificate. |
