President Muhammadu Buhari has inaugurated and handed over erosion control projects to communities in Anambra State in continuation of the Federal Government’s Erosion Control Programme through the Ecological Fund Office. Under the ECP, the President approved 16 ecological intervention projects to check the menace of flooding and erosion in selected states across the country. Buhari said the new projects in Anambra State were part of the Federal Government’s ecological intervention programme, while speaking at the inauguration of one of the projects in Nda Nnobi on Thursday. He handed over the second facility to residents of Agbor. The two communities are located in the Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State. The President, who was represented by the Minister of Interior, Abdulrahaman Dambazau, at the ceremony in Nda Nnobi, said, “This project is one of the 16 ecological intervention projects approved for the fourth quarter of 2016. It was approved on October 13, 2016 and was awarded by the Federal Executive Council on March 1, 2017. “The project is expected to check flooding and erosion menace in the community. The age-long problem of gully erosion and flooding in this part of the country cannot be overemphasised. I have no doubt in my mind that this Federal Government’s intervention will bring a huge relief to the communities, which have for a very long time been stressed by these ecological challenges.” Buhari said the projects in Anambra were testimonies of the Federal Government’s promise that no part of the country would suffer neglect as a result of its geographical location or political consideration. He said, “The successful completion of this project would reduce dangers to lives and properties associated with erosion and persistent flooding being experienced here. At this critical moment of our nation building and economic recovery, there is no doubt that the project will provide a window of opportunity for the economic growth of the benefiting communities.” The Permanent Secretary, Ecological Fund Office, Habiba Lawal, said the projects were executed by the EFO, which is a department under the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, adding that the roads and drainages should be maintained by the communities. http://punchng.com/buhari-inaugurates-anambra-erosion-control-projects/

President Muhammadu Buhari has directed the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Chief Geoffrey Onyeama, and Minister of State, Aviation, Sen. Hadi Sirika, to commence the process of repatriating Nigerians stranded in Russia. Malam Garba Shehu, the President’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, confirmed this development in a statement in Abuja on Monday. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the affected Nigerians had travelled to Russia for the FIFA 2018 World Cup but got stranded after the competition. The football fans got stranded in the country following the activities of some unscrupulous travel agents who cancelled their return tickets and abandoned them to their fate. The presidential aide observed that already the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Minister of Aviation had in compliance with the President’s directive taken the necessary actions to bring the Nigerians back. According to Shehu, the Presidential directive is in line with the policy of the current administration to ensure the welfare of all Nigerians in every part of the world. It would be recalled that the Buhari administration had on several occasions ensured the repatriation of Nigerians from foreign countries like Libya and other conflict zones. Because PDP’s tip is 3000, and it was shared yesterday; while APC’s is 5000 that is why you see what is happening. “In fact, some of those who collected APC money voted PDP so it is not an issue. It is a matter of who is smart.” he added. ![]() |
