Going by the outcome of the results of the bye elections on Saturday, Green Party of Nigeria is a party to watch out for, and for the neutral who are tired of what APC and PDP are offering . The party performed well in the Bauchi Senatorial Election beating the umbrella party to a distant third in some areas. The party also made a good outing in Katsina and Kogi. This is a lesson to parties like PDP, SPD, ADC...that is not about defections, or being present in social media platforms that will win elections, but not loosing touch with the people. As they say, politics is local, while others are announcing their defections on social media and press releases,...serious ones among them went to their constituency to inform the locals that matter of their defections ..by carrying them along all the way.. Sooner or later after 2019 elections, some parties may be referred to as "Social Media Party" |
The speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, was disallowed from voting after arriving late at the polling station for Saturday’s Bauchi senatorial bye election. Mr Dogara was at his country home, Gwarangah, in Bogoro local government area of Bauchi state days before the bye-election for Bauchi-South senatorial district. Having coordinated support for his preferred candidate, Mr Dogara failed to turn up at the polling unit, which is near his house. Voting at the polling unit closed at 2.20 p.m. amidst a rancorous protests by some irate youth who accused INEC officials of not allowing them cast their vote. Some of the youth said they were denied their voting right on grounds that they were at the polling unit with temporary voters card. Others insisted on voting even after the closure of accreditation, saying they had to go to their farms first before coming to the polling centre. Others said the polling officials must share the remaining ballot papers among the party agents to cast their votes in favour of their respective parties as they did not trust the officials going away with unused ballot papers. It was in the midst of this tense situation that Mr Dogara eventually left his house to the polling centre. His arrival further infuriated the youth who began to protest loudly that they won’t accept the officials giving the speaker special treatment after they were denied the chance to cast their votes on grounds that they did not show up early enough. The speaker was seen having a chat with officials who explained to him that they had long closed accreditation and transmitted the result electronically to the INEC headquarters. Mr Dogara later pleaded with the crowd to be calm. He explained even himself could not vote. It took some time to calm frayed nerves. Journalists were almost violently lynched for daring to take photographs of the rancorous situation. https://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/top-news/279809-bauchi-bye-election-dogara-not-allowed-to-vote.html |

Some female voters at a polling unit in Bauchi caused a stir when each of them kissed her ballot paper and shouted “Sai Baba” before casting her vote. Newsmen report that the drama, involving some women, occurred at the veterinary polling unit of Dawaki Ward in Bauchi metropolis. Their action raised suspicions that the women might have mistaken the Bauchi South Senatorial by-election for the forthcoming general election, which will feature President Muhammadu Buhari as a contestant. “Sai Baba” is the common phrase used by supporters of President Buhari while campaigning for him. The women declined to comment when contacted by newsmen. Presiding Officer in charge of the polling unit, Miss Faiza Mohammed, however told newsmen that turnout of women was impressive, with some of them, over-enthusiastic. “The women are very excited and eager to cast their votes; some of them were kissing their ballot papers and shouting ‘sai Baba’ before casting their votes. “I do not know which ‘Baba’ they are referring to,” she said. Anti-graft operatives have raided the residence of Ita Ekpeyong, a former director-general of the State Security Service (SSS). The officers, believed to be from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arrived Mr Ekpeyong’s home just before noon on Thursday, in an anti-corruption raid that was reportedly sanctioned by Acting President Yemi Osinbajo. Mr Ekpeyong led the SSS between 2010 and 2015 when President Muhammadu Buhari replaced him with Lawal Daura, himself now removed from office. The property being raided is located in Asokoro, Abuja. An attempt was previously made to search it in November 2017, but Mr Daura prevented it, sparking a stand-off that nearly turned fatal between SSS and EFCC operatives. The EFCC then accused Mr Ekpeyong of being culpable in the arms purchase scandal that rocked the exit of President Goodluck Jonathan. Scores of individuals and firms have been identified as allegedly sharing in the mismanaged funds, which were earmarked for the war against Boko Haram. It was not immediately clear whether today’s raid at Mr Ekpeyong’s home, which government gave to him after his exit as DG of SSS, was a continuation of the botched search from last year. When PREMIUM TIMES visited the house, there was a heavy presence of armed police officers on both entrances to the street as well as by the house. Hilux security vehicles were also parked close to the house. The EFCC spokesperson, Wilson Uwujaren, did not return calls and an sms sent to him about the raid. https://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/headlines/279537-breaking-efcc-raids-ex-sss-dg-ita-ekpeyongs-abuja-home.html

![]() My opinion elsewhere on nairaland My Permutations : 1. If Atiku did not win , he will work against the party 2. If Kwankwoso did not win, he will work for Buhari , but work for PDP in Governorship 3 . No PDP candidate can win NW, NE ,NC and SW, with Buhari contesting 4. SS could flip, because the son of the soil is not contesting...CRS,AKS,DS,EDS 5. Imo and Ebonyi could be swept by brooms 6. If Sule Lamido did not win, Obj will work against PDP 7. If Tambuwal did not win, Wike will not be interested in the Presidential Election 8. Makarfi has given up, he may decamp soon...Tonye take note 9. Donald Duke is thrown under the bus already...He will work against PDP, as he did against GEJ 10. Shame will not allow Saraki to work against PDP, if he losses...but he will only have 300k votes to donate...this will be one-third of the one that will be gained from UNCOMMON DEFECTOR 11. Dankwabwo could appeal a bit, but you know PDP...sharing the money since 1999, will not allow them to see him. Anyway , nobody knows him, to say the least, nationally . 12. Saminu Turaki...the guy looks hungry, he maybe seeking for "Juicy Appointment" 13. Shekarau cannot be trusted if he losses Outcome: If 1 did not hold, 2 to 13 remain valid. Guess the rest |

Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo, on Thursday, met the Emir of Daura, His Royal Highness, Farouk Umar Farouk at his palace in Katsina State. According to Laolu Akande, the media aide of Osinbajo on his Twitter handle, @akandeoj, the Acting President went to the state to headline the State Senatorial election campaign rally in Daura and paid a visit to the Emir. During the visit, Osinbajo said, “the purpose of the APC and President Buhari is to uphold the common man.” He added that the Federal Government is doing more with 60% less earnings than previous administrations. https://punchng.com/breaking-osinbajo-meets-emir-of-daura/
