The Deputy Governor of Sokoto State, Ahmed Aliyu, has vowed to remain in the ruling All Progressives Congress on whose platform he and Governor Aminu Tambuwal were elected into office. Senator Ibrahim Gobir, seven House of Representatives members, 12 other members of the state House of Assembly and hundreds of thousands of people of the state have vowed to remain in APC. But the Chairman of the Northern Senators Forum and immediate past governor of Sokoto State, Senator Aliyu Wamakko, has dismissed the defection of Governor Aminu Tambuwal to PDP, reiterating that Sokoto state remains an APC state. https://punchng.com/tambuwals-deputy-remains-in-apc-as-gov-joins-pdp/ |

“The Federal Government appointed over 200 persons into juicy offices without allotting any slot to me or (Speaker, House of Representatives, Yakubu) Dogara. Everything went to Katsina, Katsina, Lagos, Lagos. If not for the love I have for Nigeria, we would have scattered everything. They don’t want us in their party. They don’t like us in Kwara. https://punchng.com/defection-all-juicy-appointments-went-to-katsina-lagos-saraki/ |

Ranking based on websites..that one is not ranking The science of webometrics (also cybermetrics) tries to measure the World Wide Web to get knowledge about the number and types of hyperlinks, structure of the World Wide Web and usage patterns. According to Björneborn and Ingwersen (2004), the definition of webometrics is "the study of the quantitative aspects of the construction and use of information resources, structures and technologies on the Web drawing on bibliometric and informetric approaches." The term webometrics was first coined by Almind and Ingwersen (1997). A second definition of webometrics has also been introduced, "the study of web-based content with primarily quantitative methods for social science research goals using techniques that are not specific to one field of study" (Thelwall, 2009), which emphasizes the development of applied methods for use in the wider social sciences. The purpose of this alternative definition was to help publicize appropriate methods outside of the information science discipline rather than to replace the original definition within information science. |
Ranking of websites....not the best The Webometrics Ranking of World Universities, also known as Ranking Web of Universities, is a ranking system for the world's universities based on a composite indicator that takes into account both the volume of the Web contents (number of web pages and files) and the visibility and impact of these web publications according to the number of external inlinks (site citations) they received. The ranking is published by the Cybermetrics Lab, a research group of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) located in Madrid. |
*LIFTED FROM THE WALL OF PROFESSOR NASIRU MUSA YAWURI..* In the first 10 years of my teaching career, I -taught undergraduate students “Nigerian Economy”. My research interest in that area has continued till date, leading me to specialize in “economic management”. In all the years I have spent teaching Nigerian economy and doing research in related areas, I have found that the failure of development efforts in Nigeria is partly attributed to the lack of continuity in government policies. Many beautiful plans and projects were abandoned by successive governments because they didn’t start them. I am in deep shock to find “educated” people attacking Muhammadu Buhari for completing projects started and abandoned by previous governments. As an expert, I would say that Muhammad Buhari’s effort to complete abandoned projects is a sign of good and purposive leadership. This is one thing we have always prayed will happen so that Nigeria can make progress. Just yesterday, this government launched an abandoned rail project it completed (that project has been abandoned since 1987). The Ajaokuta Project is finally coming to life; so are many other abandoned projects that gulped hundreds of billions of taxpayers’ money. So, these people making the noise that Muhammadu Buhari is completing abandoned/uncompleted projects, do they expect us to go back to the classrooms to tell students that it is a crime to finish projects that were abandoned by previous governments after gulping our national resources? What exactly is the point they are trying to make? COPIED |

Sen. Lanre Tejuoso, who Senate President Bukola Saraki claimed left the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Tuesday returned to APC on Wednesday Tejuoso, representing Ogun Central, announced his return at a meeting between APC Senators and President Muhammadu Buhari at the Aso Rock on Wednesday night. While introducing himself to the President, he said: “Mr President, your son has returned home.” Also at the meeting was Senator Adesoji Akanbi, Oyo South, who Saraki also claimed had joined the PDP. He emphatically denied the list of defectors as dubious the following day, saying he remains a member of the APC. His showing up at the meeting with President Buhari affirmed his faith in the APC. Senator Shehu Sani from Kaduna, who has been blowing hot and cold about his political allegiance was also at the meeting, exchanging banters with his colleagues. With Tejuoso and Akanbi and Sani now firmly identifying with the APC, the party has now increased its majority in the Upper Chamber to 54, enough to dictate the direction of policy. The Federal Government has evacuated 152 out of the over 230 Nigerians who were stranded in Russia after the 2018 World Cup tournament. The football fans boarded an Ethiopian aircraft on Friday morning and were expected to arrive Abuja by 6pm. Some media had reported the evacuation on Thursday, whereas the true position of things is that the stranded Nigerians were actually airlifted on Friday morning. The media also erroneously reported 230 fans as having been evacuated, whereas only 152 have been airlifted so far. The evacuation, which was being carried out by the Ministry of Aviation, followed President Muhammadu Buhari’s directive that the men should be brought back to the country. http://punchng.com/fg-airlifts-152-nigerian-world-cup-fans-stranded-in-russia/ |
