PoliticsData Shows CBN Not Defending Naira With FX Reserves by abc115(op): 12:42pm On Apr 18, 2024
Data showing the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN)’s rare interventions in the foreign exchange market prove that it is not defending the naira with its foreign reserves.

Data from FMDQ Securities Exchange shows the CBN has only sold $581 million in the official market, otherwise known as NAFEM, this year.

That means the CBN’s sales accounts for only 3.2 percent of the total market turnover of $17.938 billion in the same period.

The data which shows the paltry dollar sales of the CBN in the FX market contradicts claims that the Abuja-based bank has been burning through its reserves to defend the naira.

The apex bank has also sold around $60 million to BDCs over the last two months since it resumed dollar sales to them this year. That’s yet more proof that the naira appreciation seen over the last month is not being driven by CBN interventions.

Foreign AffairsBiden Tells Netanyahu Tonight Was A Win, Nothing Of "Value" Hit In Israel by abc115(op): 6:11am On Apr 14, 2024
The US’s assessment tonight was that almost all of the drones and missiles – including more than 100 ballistic missiles -- launched by Iran had been knocked out of the sky. No cruise missile made impact, the official said, and nothing of “value” was hit.

Israel should consider tonight a win because the current US assessment is that Iran’s attacks had been largely unsuccessful and demonstrated Israel’s superior military capability, President Joe Biden told Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in their phone call, a senior administration official told CNN.

BusinessCBN Sells Dollars To BDCs Below Market Rate At ₦‎1,101/$1 by abc115(op): 11:53am On Apr 08, 2024
CBN sells dollars to BDCs below market rate at N1,101/$1
The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has issued a circular to Bureau De Change operators (BDCs), informing them of the sale of $10,000 to each BDC at a rate of N1,101/$1.

In a circular seen by Nairametrics, each BDC is instructed to sell the dollars to eligible customers at a rate not exceeding 1.5% above the purchase price.

This suggests BDCs are not expected to sell above N1,117/$1. The selling rate is below the N1,251.05/$1 recorded at the end of last week, according to data from the Nigerian Autonomous Foreign Exchange Market (NAFEM).

Comedian AY Makun confirms breakup rumors, Says “My marriage of 20yrs is slipping off my hands”.

Many people believe that staying silent simply means that one is incapable of dealing with issues. Projecting a negative narrative against someone who is not struggling to defend himself doesn't mean he is weak. Some of us are just logical enough to understand the difference between opinions, values, beliefs, and facts.

The personality and ability that I possess simply confirm that i have reached that stage in my life where I can not be entertaining the public with deep personal family issues. They just might be too much to handle concerning the individuals involved. Not even when I have a grown-up daughter who has access to social media. Her mental health needs to be protected from seeing things she can not be proud of online.

Yes! Without compromising my family, i have found myself doing some things that i am not proud of today. It is one thing to watch my friendship/ marriage of 20 years slip off my hands, but it's another thing for the parties involved to understand how to appropriate the blames in a space that is designed for most women to always play the victims and win. I can tell you for free that no one is completely INNOCENT enough to cast stones.

Presently, i am loving the way that lies about me in all these blogs are traveling faster than the truth. But my painful truth will eventually beat away all the lies.

The EV war is at Elon’s doorstep and only the American government can bail him out through regulations. On a plain field, Tesla itself will tank.

Twitter is practically unsellable at purchased prize, and all Elon has on the board now is to come-up with a critical innovation that appeals to “ALL”

It will only get worse for Elon if he doesn’t retrace his steps. Personal ego kills business.

Waste of resources and lack of financial management. Surprisingly, even renowned airlines and top-tier business leaders opt to lease aircraft rather than making outright purchases. This trend highlights a strategic choice driven by considerations such as cash flow management, flexibility in fleet management, and the ability to allocate capital to other critical areas of business operation.
PoliticsNERC Fines AEDC ₦200 Million For Violation Of The New Tariff by abc115(op): 2:02pm On Apr 05, 2024
NERC Fines AEDC ₦200 Million for Violation of the New Tariff Order, Directs Customer Refunds

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (“Commission”) has taken enforcement action against the Abuja Electricity Distribution Plc (“AEDC”) for non-compliance with the Supplementary Order to the April 2024 Multi-Year Tariff Order 2024 for AEDC (the “Order”).

AEDC has been fined ₦200,000,000 (Two Hundred Million Naira) for failure to comply with the prescribed customer band classifications for the tariff billing.
This decision follows a detailed review and customer feedback, which revealed that AEDC had applied the new tariff to all customer bands, contrary to the Order, which was designed to ensure fair billing practices.

AEDC is therefore mandated to:

Reimburse all customers in Bands B, C, D and E respectively that were billed above the allowed customer categories/tariff bands provided in the Order.

Reimburse through the provision of the balance of customer tokens that the affected customers would be entitled to receive at the applicable rates and all token reimbursements shall be issued to the affected customers by 11 April 2024.

Pay the sum of ₦200,000,000.00 (Two Hundred Million Naira) as a fine for the flagrant breach of the Commission’s Order.

File evidence of compliance with the directives in a & c with the Commission by 12 April 2024.

The action by the Commission underscores its commitment to protecting consumer rights and ensuring equitable practices within Nigeria’s electricity sector.

Signed
