somehow: Sorry but which part of my comment are you quoting sir? The part where you said that the lintel he cast collapsed. I'm just surprised that any builder or engineer can do such |

somehow: I know some of the elders here indirectly gave him thumbs down when I enquired but I know he won't go free from this without a severe scar if he doesn't refund me.
I told him on site that I'm a young man and young people don't forget or let things go easily. I can be a dove if I want to and I can be a beast if need be.
My work hasn't stopped because of the refund but I worked for that money and will get it whichever way possible.
I had to redo 2 lintels that he did anyhow.
The fins he previously casted fell, there and then did we discover there was no rebar used. Just sand, cement and granites.
He was made to redo those ones.
Wanted to build my security house without pillars, had to use unbudgeted money to make sure my PM put pillars there.
He also didn't do German floor for the SH, rather went ahead to erect walls without pillars/German floor.
There are other things not share yet which we have managed /currently managing and correcting. ( low budget electrical and plumbing pipes, low grade steel trusses).
The beginning was smooth and sweet until 97.5% of the funds got to him. Sorry for my insensitivity but how do one cast a lintel without rebar? |

BlushPink: rotecch77 spyder880 Saydfact Abdulwastecx Segzy14 N3xt The standard strip footing size is: If you are using a 150mm block ( 6" block) the thickness of the footing should not be less than the thickness of the partition walls. That is the thickness (h) greater than or equals to 150mm For 9" block (225mm) it should be 225mm or 9" thick. The weakest concrete I normally use is 1:3:6 by weight. I will advise you to use at least 6" thick and 27" wide. use granite of 19.5mm thick (3/4) and a mix ratio of 1:3:6 |

We have a distinct disadvantage of what we can do with the exterior since its a prototype building as it's the normal practice for most Abuja estates. All the same, we have to make the exterior good.

We are the stage where we have to cover all the breakage. This is my favorite, since this is the stage the house begins to take shape and the stage we get admires and possible future clients.

I actually have a thing for flat concrete fascia (parapet) simply because the formwork is easier to made, cost effective, more aesthetically pleasing and the fact that you can easily have a light under it.
The first rule of a thumb in making a concrete fascia is never to make it too thick. The lighter the fascia the better.

Yeah, we're ready for concrete placement but I'm not going to bore you with too much pictures. Just take these four of our best and ask any question latter. Don't forget to let us handle your next project, be it the carcass, the whole structure, roofing or any of the milestone you think we can be of help.

2-Placement of rebar; This is a very important aspect of slab construction. The reinforcement placed at this stage, includes, Y16, and Y10 for the beams and Y12 for the slab.
The shear reinforcement of the beam is spaced at 200mm while the slab reinforcement is spaced at 250mm.
Also, the slab reinforcement is detailed in accordance to the British standard. Where both bottom and top reinforcements are provided at appropriate sections of the slab

Formwork; Basically, for this simple one story-building, we'll have beams of 450mm x 230mm and a slab of 150mm thick. As it's a prerequisite for all our building, i normally carry out a structural design before the commencement of work and at every stage, re-evaluate the design to inculcate and additional changes made design construction. As this building is a prototyped unit, design by the estate and in other to have a structurally sound and aesthetically pleased, we have to make a number of changes.

We're at the third stage of the work.
Here, I'll be showing showing you the construction of the suspended reinforced concrete slab and the first floor block work For the suspended slab, we have the following; 1-Formwork 2-Placement of rebar 3-Installation of plumbing and electrical piping 4-Finally, placement of concrete |

Here come the second structural milestone of the the project. As a rule of thumb, I normally split the carcass work into four, namely; substructure, Ground floor, First floor slab /First floor and Concrete fascia/Roof
At this point, we are done with two of the milestone. We'll be rounding up the other two soon. come with me to enjoy this beautiful thread. |

It's important to properly vibrate the concrete to forced out all the air bubble and properly compact the concrete. Since, the difference between a concrete with a strength of 10N/mm2 (relatively weak concrete) and a 25N/mm2 ( a relatively strong concrete) may be due to quality of batching. I.e, water to cement ratio, selection of aggregates, quality control, degree of vibration etc. Reason why a registered personnel should be handling your job.
Here come the final lintel concrete...

Ground floor lintel work. Basically, I'll be doing a ringed lintel. Ring lintel is advantageous for this type of build because it makes the house more rigid and also serve as a horizontal ties.

For extra strength to be able to carry the veranda beam and parapet. And what if the german floor is broken to get the footing of the columns from the ground. Or can l still use the 6inches blocks for external walls with necessary columns footed from the ground.? Why do you need to have a concrete fascia on a house built with a 6" none load-bearing wall? The problem with the fascia is not only the reaction load on the walls but the twisting moment generated due to its cantilevered nature. To have a fascia, the house must have beams that must be connected to a well-spaced column. In other world must be a kind of frame. My advice, don't do the fascia and if the veranda space is not more than 3m go ahead with the constriction but make sure the beam is at the head beam level and it must span across the entire wall. Otherwise, consult an engineer or a builder with know how. |

diordaves: The attached photo is Sherwood Court about 12/13 storey 611 bedroom student accommodation in Lewisham, South East London. The development is currently ongoing as part of the regeneration of Lewisham. The construction method is "Vision Modular System" according to Tide, the construction company.
From the attached photos, you can see the reinforced concrete core around the stairs/lift you wrote about and a similar finished article opposite. Like you said, they build the base or core (what the civil engineering name?) in a controlled environment because the floors were going up about one floor a day so to speak ( what happens to 21 days curing of decking). They now subsequently built the floors (flats) around this core to put it in a layman's language.
So you are correct. As a trained eye, you can see straight away if a building is being built with the provision for the lateral load (wind load) or dynamic load (earthquake and other motion inducing natural phenomenon). A chick that will grow into a co-ck is spotted on the day it is hatched. I did not see a concrete core in that Chinese stack-up. So for me a layman, it is shitty. Exactly bro! you capture the whole thing perfectly. |
