Irele and Ayadi communities in Ondo state where lives were lost to a yet to be iden­tified disease early last week are now calm with normalcy re­stored as no fresh case of the strange disease is recorded in the last 72 hours. According to the state commissioner for health, Dr Dayo Adeyanju, 23 cases were reported, 18 deaths recorded. He al­layed the fear that the disease is contagious. Dr. Adeyanju, called on the people in the area not to neglect health facilities around them due to the superstitious be­lief attached to the new develop­ment.

The state Governor, Dr Olusegun Mimiko said, cerebro spinal fluid, blood and urine specimens have been taken for examination and the preliminary results show that no known viral infection has been detected. final lab­oratory results are still being awaited to be able to fully apprehend and finally surmount the challenge.

Abia State Governor, Theodore Orji, has warned the incoming All Progressives Congress (APC) Federal Government that it will not be an easy ride with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members in the National Assembly. There was panic in Ekiti and Oyo State, on Friday, as a victim of the strange ailment that has killed up to 30 persons in Ode-Irele, Ondo State, was spotted in a hospital in Ekiti State, accompanied by his wife.
