Nigeria’s president-elect Muhammadu Buhari will be sworn in on Friday May 29, 2015 to govern a severely ailing nation. However, the success or failure of his administration will be judged squarely on how he performs in these four critical areas below. Corruption: It was based solely on Buhari’s promise of running a corrupt-free government that Nigerians voted him into power. Therefore, this will be the primary yardstick Nigerians will judge the success or failure of his administration. Security: Owing to the abysmal failure of the Jonathan regime in fight against insurgency, subduing Boko Haram is a must for Buhari. This was also one of the cardinal promises made by the APC-led government during campaign. Unemployment: Being the root cause of all of Nigeria’s woes, Nigerians will be watching keenly on how Buhari will tackle this monster that has defiled past leaders since independence. Buhari will surely be judged based on this factor. Energy: With the current all-time low 1,327 megawatts of electricity being generated, Nigeria is currently in massive energy crisis. However, what Nigerians are keenly waiting to see is how Buhari’s APC-led government will increase power generation in the country to the 12,000 megawatts promised during campaign.
