The Labour Party [LP] has accused the All Progressives Congress [APC] of plotting to destabilise Nigeria during the 2015 general elections.
The party’s National Secretary, Olukayode Ajulo, made this known in a statement made available to PREMIUM TIMES on Thursday.

Going by what he described as “unguarded utterances and inciting statements,” Mr. Ajulo said it is evident the APC is interested in causing chaos rather than to win the 2015 polls.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) yesterday said it has recovered $11 billion being proceeds of financial crimes since its inception in 2003.

The spokesman of the Commission, Wilson Uwujaren made this known in Abuja at an interactive session with Journalists organized by the Forum of Spokespersons of Security and Response Agencies (FOSSRA) and I-Nigeria Initiative.

Uwujaren said: "In terms of assets recovery, we have recovered assets of well over $11 billion in 11 years and I think that is a record."
He also said apart from the numerous convictions it has obtained in courts across the country; the Commission has arraigned over 40 suspects in fuel subsidy related matters...

The Gombe State Government on Wednesday ordered the closure of all public and private schools in the state, a day after suspected Boko Haram terrorists attacked two towns in the state.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that parents who took their children to school yesterday were told to take them back as the schools had been closed on the orders of the government.

The headmistress of Bethany International College, Gombe, Edith Williams, said she received a circular on Tuesday evening that all schools should be closed down for security reasons.

Some parents who spoke with journlists commended the state government for the action, saying it was a necessary action to safeguard the students.

President Goodluck Jonathan will on Wednesday unveil the specially designed commemorative N100 banknote by the Central Bank of Nigeria.

The CBN disclosed this in a statement on Monday in Abuja.

The bank said the commemorative note was part of its contribution to the centenary celebration and was in line with its mandate of issuing legal tender currencies for the country.

The statement read in part, “The choice of the N100 denomination is to mark the centenary celebration of Nigeria and is consistent with best global practices for central banks around the world during the celebration of national events.

“Part of the features of the commemorative banknote is the inscription of the theme of the centenary celebration: ‘One Nigeria, Great Promise’ as a micro-text.

“While retaining the portrait of the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo on the front, the new note features Nigerian traditional dancers at the back. The commemorative note comes in different dominant colours.”

The new note, according to the statement, is also designed to incorporate additional security features for digital communication, protection against counterfeiting, tolerance to the tropics and ease of recognition of genuineness.

The bank stated that the commemorative note was for the purpose of the centenary celebration and would circulate alongside the existing N100 note.

It will be recalled that the bank issued a commemorative N50 polymer note to mark Nigeria’s 50th independence anniversary in 2010.

The N100 note bearing the portrait of Awolowo was first issued in December 1999.

A presidential aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and founder of LEADERSHIP Group, Sam Nda-Isaiah, has paid the N27.5million fee to purchase the presidential nomination forms.

The sum is the price the party put on the expression of interest and nomination forms for all presidential aspirants. Women and the physically challenged are, however, exempted from such payment.
