The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kogi State has accused the State Governor, Yahaya Bello of wasting over N5 billion public fund on his failed plot to recall the Senator representing Kogi West Senatorial district of the State, Dino Melaye.http://googleweblight.com/i?u=http://kogireports.com/gov-bello-wasted-over-n5bn-on-senator-melayes-failed-recall-plot-pdp-alleges/&hl=en-NG&tg=381&tk=18069591396330826781

http://googleweblight.com/i?u=http://kogireports.com/excuse-me-from-the-messy-political-altercations-in-kogi-state-ex-gov-audus-son/&hl=en-NG&tg=394&tk=14818132757676381436 Excuse Me From The Messy Political Altercations In Kogi State – Ex-Gov Audu’s Son Son of the late Abubakar Audu, aspirant in the 2015 gubernatorial election in Kogi State, Mohammed Audu, has reacted to the allegation by the police that he was breeding some political thugs alongside Dino Melaye ahead of the 2019 General election. Recall that last week, two political thugs paraded in Lokoja, the Kogi state capital by the Nigeria Police named the Senator representing Kogi West, Dino Melaye and Mohammed Audu as their major sponsors. The suspects, Kabir Saidu a.k.a Osama’ and Nuhu Saliu a.k.a ‘Small’, who have been on police wanted list for the past two years were arrested in January by the Kogi state police command and Federal special Anti- Robbery Squad. In a statement signed by Mohammed Audu on Monday, he said the reports of complicity in gun running and association with political thugs were shocking to him. Audu explained that, the police headquarter has not extended any invitation to him either personally or through any of his known addresses in Kogi State and in Abuja where he resides with his family. He also denied that he was on the run as widely reported on social media. The statement reads in part, “My attention has been drawn to several reports in both the social and conventional media in which the Nigerian Police Force Public Relations Officer is said to have mentioned my name in confessional statements made by some criminal suspects. “The reports also insinuate that I have refused to honour invitations by the police. Some online media outfits even went to the extent of saying I am on the run. “The most worrisome of all is the reported threat by the FPRO to declare me, along with Senator Dino Melaye wanted for failure to honour a yet to be received summons. “Following incessant calls from family members, friends and concerned well wishers, I wish to use this opportunity to make it abundantly clear that reports of complicity in gun running and association with political thugs are as shocking to me as they are to those who are conversant with the political terrain in Kogi State. “Secondly, I wish to state that as I speak, nobody from the police headquarter has extended any invitation to me either personally or though any of my known addresses in Kogi State and in Abuja where I reside with my family. “I wish to also passionately appeal to the gladiators in Kogi state to please excuse me and members of the family of Late Prince Abubakar Audu from the messy political altercations in the State. I am conscious of the fact that the enormous goodwill shown to our late father and which the family still enjoys may constitute a threat to some interested parties. “However, we have been careful not to descend into the arena and have done everything possible to avoid open confrontations with anyone. “It is inconceivable for me and members of my family to imagine that anyone in a position of authority will use institutions of power to witch hunt perceived opponents even when there are no reasons to do so. “For the avoidance of doubt, I wish to make the following points very clear that there have been no police or court invitation to me on any matter in Kogi state up to this point. “I am not on the run and I do not think those claiming so expect me to show up at the courts or the police headquarters based on rumors in the social media . “I do not think the allegations reported in the media merit any response from me but if I am going to comment on them at all, it will be to say I am not in the business of raising or harboring thugs and therefore have no connection whatsoever with those suspects paraded by the police. “Senator Dino Melaye is someone I have known but I have never discussed issues relating to retaining political thugs with him or any other person for that matter . Any individual who wishes to engage the services of thugs for his or her politics should know that I am not useful in that regard since I have no use for them in the first place. “I wish to also appeal to the police authorities to call some of their officers to order and resist the temptation to compromise their neutrality especially in areas where some persons are overtly desperate to silence perceived political opponents. “I shall continue to keep a low profile in the unfolding political drama in Kogi state and I only ask to be left out of the arena for now. “I wish to end by declaring that as a law abiding citizen, I shall honour any invitation extended to me on any matter from Law enforcement agencies if properly served any such notices,” he said. |
Traditional Ruler, Wife, Eight Others Killed As Herdsmen Renewed Attacks On Kogi Communities Mar 19, 2018, 21:35 Pm At least 10 persons, including a traditional ruler, the Onu Okewnu Agbenema, Musa Edibo and his wife have been killed in renewed and separate attacks by suspected herdsmen on Agbenema, Aj’Ichekpa, Opada and Iyade villages in Omala local government area of Kogi state. The traditional ruler, who was said to be an aged man and his wife were said to have been burnt in their palace. The attackers were also said to have burnt several houses including that of a former vice chairman of Omala local government, Adofu Stephen and that of his father were razed, while the administrator of the local government, Ibrahim Aboh, narrowly escaped the attack. It was gathered that six people were killed in Iyade, two in Ajichepa, while the traditional ruler and his wife were killed in Agbenema. Natives in one of the attacked communities said the attackers invaded the areas with sophisticated weapons and his in bushes around these villages from where they launched their attacks. According to sources from the communities, the suspected herdsmen set the houses on fire and shut inhabitants that attempted to escape. They added that the attackers also slit the throats of the victims, matchet and cut off vital parts of their body. The incident was said to have commenced on Sunday evening and lasted till early morning of Tuesday following which hundreds of residents of the communities, particularly women and children have fled for fear of being killed. Also, a former majority leader of the Kogi state house of assembly, Adamu Mohammed, said several houses were burnt in Agbenema, while two people were killed. He lamented that the security operatives drafted into the communities were helpless as the assailants burnt houses and killed the people He added that as at the time he was speaking on Monday evening, coordinated killings were still ongoing in various communities in the local government. Another native of the community, who spoke on condition of anonymity, regretted that the soldiers that were drafted to curtail the herdsmen killings allegedly refused to assist the locals to repel the attack. He said, “We were surprised when we approached the soldiers who were stationed at the Guest House at Abejukolo for assistance, they refused to act professionally as they used their vehicle to block us from advancing to the troubled spot to help our people. “It is clear that the aim of the Fulani herdsmen is to kill us and take over our ancestral homes. They have razed down Ojuwo Ajomayeigbi, Iyade, Agbenema and Opada villages so that they could use our land for their cattle colonies. “We want the world to come to our assistance before these Fulanis exterminate and inherit our land. We have lost confidence in the security agencies posted to us, from their actions, we believed they have been instructed to adopt siddon looks while we are being massacred. “Right now the coordinated war is raging simultaneously in most villages in Omala, Dekina, and Bassa local government areas. Our people are being killed and houses burnt down l, even as our women are being raped while many children who ran from the theatre of war were still missing.” “Since the attacks begun, we cannot go to the farms even markets have closed. Hunger has come to stay on our soil. If drastic measures are not done to quell this mad killing by these herdsmen, food insecurity will take over our land” they lamented. When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), William Aya, said the headquarters was yet to be briefed by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), the Omala local government area. http://googleweblight.com/i?u=http://kogireports.com/traditional-ruler-wife-eight-others-killed-as-herdsmen-renewed-attacks-on-kogi-communities/&hl=en-NG&tg=221&tk=1564829072609784595 |

https://www.thecable.ng/nigerians-killed-in-safrica-were-victims-of-crime-not-xenophobia-says-foreign-ministry Nigerians killed in S’Africa were not victims of xenophobia, says foreign ministry The ministry of foreign affairs says most violent conflicts and killings of Nigerians in South Africa were more of criminal activities than xenophobic attack. Tope Elias-Fatile, the ministry’s spokesperson, said this while briefing journalists on Wednesday on a wide range of issues and activities of the ministry. Elias-Fatile said the ministry was in constant touch with the Nigerian mission in South Africa to get reports of criminal-related issues involving Nigerians living in that country. “From the report I can authoritatively tell you that the killings of Nigerians in South Africa were more of criminal issue,” he said. Nigerians living in South Africa have suffered series of attacks by mobs in that country, causing loss of lives and destruction of properties. NAN reports that no fewer than 116 Nigerians have been killed in the country in the last two years. In January, two Nigerians were killed in Rustenburg and Durban. In the same month, the Nigerian community in South Africa said a mob destroyed four shops and several houses belonging to their members at Krugersdorp, near Joha. Fatile said most of the extra-judicial killings were more of crime-related issues against Nigerians than xenophobic. He, however, said the ministry was working with relevant authorities in South Africa to ensure that there is an end to the attacks. “There is a plan for a meeting to address the issues holistically. As I am talking to you the ministry is in touch with South African authority because that is one of the volatile area,” he said. “Consistently we are in touch with the ambassador and the consular in South Africa and that is why I said that the pockets of killing are not actually xenophobia they are more of crime related issues.” |

http://googleweblight.com/i?u=http://kogireports.com/melaye-apologizes-to-catholic-bishops-over-kogi-gov-s-tirades/&hl=en-NG&tg=371&tk=852040876009076451 Senator representing Kogi West, Dino Melaye has apologized to Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) over Governor Yahaya Bello’s remarks at the Presidential Villa yesterday. In the meeting with President Buhari on Thursday, the Bishops told the President that Nigerians were angry as a result of alleged bad governance and imbalance in the system. But in his response, Governor Bello was quoted to have said that some religious leaders were angry because avenues to loot money and take to the Churches and Mosques have been blocked by the Buhari’s government. Reacting to Governor Bello’s tirade, Senator Melaye said Bello’s head requires “equational balances” “I apologize to the Catholic Church and the Christian community for the verbal diarrhea of the governor of Kogi State. “It is more obvious than ever that he need some equational balances on his head. This affliction on Nigeria shall not arise a second time,” he said. Reacting to Gov. Bello’s remarks on looting and tithes, a former aviation minister, Femi Fani-Kayode said the Kogi state governor is courting disaster. In a tweet this morning, Fani-Kayode said: “Gov. Yahaya Bello of Kogi state is looking for trouble and courting disaster. His gratuitous insult on hardworking and tithe-paying Christians has not gone unnoticed. If he does not sheath his sword we will unleash a verbal blizkrieg on his ugly head from which he may never recover” |

https://www.vanguardngr.com/2018/02/adopted-parliamentary-system-leg-level-aregbesola/ Osogbo —GOVERNOR Rauf Aregbesola of Osun State, has disclosed that his administration adopted the Parliamentary System of Government to deepen democracy, as well as entrench genuine democratic practice atthe grassroots. He said it was the overwhelming wish of the people, as stated in the report of the Mr. Gbadegesin Adedeji led committee on political reforms he set up that parliamentary system of government is adopted. Governor Aregbesola made the disclosure at the swearing-in ceremony for Councillors representing wards in the Local Governments, Local Council Development Areas, Area Councils and Administrative Offices, held at the state secretariat, Abere, Osogbo. According to him, the experience in the First Republic will attest to the fact that parliamentary system deepens democracy and offers far greater political representation and governance effectiveness than any other system. He said the parliamentary system is more democratic, than the executive, in that the executive system tends towards dictatorship and absolutism since power is concentrated in one man’s hand, with little or no check. He said: “Our decision is not against the constitution. Nowhere did it mention executive or parliamentary – only that it must be democratic – and parliamentary system is as democratic as you can ever get.” “You will recall that in 2012, the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria asked for a memorandum on the review of the 1999 Constitution. A 15-man committee was set up in Osun under the chairmanship of Mr. Gbadegesin Adedeji to aggregate the opinions and views of the state.” “The committee held public sittings for three weeks during which members of the public, institutions, nongovernmental organisations and others made the submission. “In the end, it was the overwhelming wish of the people, as stated in the committee’s report, that parliamentary system of government is adopted at all levels of government. What we have done therefore is to defer to the wish of the people in their clamour for a parliamentary system of government. |

Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State has lampooned critics of President Muhammadu Buhari, saying they do not have the ultimate power to stop the President in next year’s general elections. Bello pointed out that no campaign of calumny against Mr. President would frustrate his re-election, more so that he has the overwhelming support of Nigerians to continue in office, in view of his transparent leadership and desire to move the country to another level of development. Bello statement was in reaction to former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s letter where he asked Presidential Buhari not to seek reelection in 2019. Bello who spoke in Lokoja on Tuesday evening at the Infrastructural Expo to commemorate the second anniversary of his administration, wondered why the Peoples democratic Party PDP which plundered the resources of the country would still be contemplating returning to power, saying that can never happen. He said, “God who made Mr. President to pass through the valley of death preserved him for a purpose. The confidence is certain that President Buhari would secure another mandate in view of his purposeful leadership. “Mr. President is just close to three years and his opponents are running helter-skelter, because they cannot tolerate him for eight years. By the time President Buhari completes his two terms in office, his opponents would be in political wilderness. “President Buhari is doing well in his best in the fight against corruption, insurgency as well as improvement in the economy. The foreign reserve has been bolstered significantly compared to what was in place before he came on board in 2015. “Mr. President is boiling them with cold water, suffocating them because they cannot stomach him for eight years, that is why they are crying foul. When the time comes they will know that majority of the people of this country are solidly behind him. So those who are against the reelection of President Muhammadu Buhari cannot stop him”, he emphasised. Bello further opined that God had endorsed Buhari to serve his constitutional two terms, and so, does not need the support of anyone to achieve that feat. “Those who ran the country aground are desperately seeking relevance, trying to play God. “No amount of intimidation, media manipulation and campaign of calumny can compel Mr. President to abandon his avowed commitment to put the country on the path of greatness, neither can the current efforts at retrieving all the stolen monies from the nation’s coffers cannot be abandoned because of some selfish individuals.” http://googleweblight.com/i?u=http://kogireports.com/objs-letter-those-who-ran-the-country-aground-are-desperately-seeking-relevance-playing-god-kogi-gov/&hl=en-NG&tg=367&tk=11478291551969130267 |
