Someone from Yorubaland will be advising someone from igboland or ibibioland to stop complaining about federal governments unwillingness to develop Eastern ports. The same person will never travel from say ibadam to Calabar to clear his goods if he was the one at the receiving end. He can never tolerate that for a week. As at today, to move 40ft containers from Lagos to Aba, you are most probably going to add an extra 4 to 5 million naira to your overhead costs. Infact, at a point some months back, the freight charge from China for a 40ft container was almost the same with the cost of transporting the same containers from Lagos to the east! Yet the Southwest wants this status quo to continue. Lots of accidents and deaths on the way as goods are transported to the SE and the SS from Lagos, but they don't care. Their answer is to build a trillions naira highway from Tinubus Lekki port to the South South! Why not open up the South South ports, so they clear their goods at their backyard? On a good day, it will take less than an hour from Aba to Portharcourt. But most of the containers opened at Aba are cleared from Lagos.
