it happened to me once. it's very simple.
buy a clear silicon gum (type used by car glass mechanics****).
Then visit a shop where u can buy a full sheet of 3mm or 4mm fully transparent glass(type used for show glass for snacks).
Cut according to the size of your panel and used d silicon gum. apply d gum moderately from all 4 sides to prevent moisture from gaining access.

do not attempt to remove the old broken glass.else u loose ur panel.
the major reason glass is used on d panel is 2 prevent moisture.

I wish I had d pictures of the stuffs. I can assure yoy that with 5k budget, your panel will be restored.

note:: performance will be reduced by a small amount. half is better than none.

Guess we've all heard Solar tracker, a vital device in solar system, i don't know if it's already been
mentioned in one of the numerous pages;
Haven't heard of a company nor individual installing it.
I bet it's a nice investment to make considering the fact it can recover from 40%-60% of the energy from the sun.
To practically test this assertion, I've tried measuring the amps on an 80w solar panel that i pointed directly to the sun. I got around 6.8A.
When pointed at 30 degrees away from the sun I got around 3.5A.
But at 45 degrees to the sun the meter reads 1.8A.
Suffice to say this experiment was done around 2.00pm with the sun clearly visible and no obstructing clouds.
You might try that on your own and you would be amazed at the energy that is being wasted using fixed solar panel.
I want to commence building these solar trackers at affordable prices and selling them here in Nigeria. I have already ordered all the parts I would be needing to build it from Aliexpress and Ebay.

high cost of procurement has always been the disadvantage of trackers. You may however oversize ur array a little bit to compensate for losese due to angle of inclination. Your controller must be very smart at performing HVD.

also, I am sure the mechanical parts of the trackers will fail after few years of use.( refer to ur motorised dish).

Please has anyone tried the PRAG 2.5Kva 24V inverter?

I have a 1.4Kva sukam that came pre-wired (i.e, the wires for the batrery were already attached to it), so i figured I'd test the rating to see just how safe those wires are in terms of current handlng.

So i plugged in an 800watt pressure cooker to the inverter circuit and within minutes, I could smell burnt wire, even though no overload alarm went off. I switched the unit off and felt the wire, which was blistering hot. Obviously, this cant be safe for long term use, as it may start a fire.

I just need info from anyone who's used the prag 24v 2.5kva inverter, to see if they've loaded at least 1300watts on it without the wires melting, since it also comes prewired for battery connection.

48V Inverters will be the safest for your type of load.

Well, all I can tell you is that the panels are capable of charging the battery bank to full at 50% DoD.

Solar panels
12 x 275W solarworld panels = 3300W
12 × 250W Renogy panels = 3000W
Total of 6300W x 5 hrs of sun per day = 31500WH/day

Battery Bank
8 x Trojan IND17-6V =48V 925AH @ 20h
Total Capacity of 48 x 925Ah = 44,400WH

As you can see, even if the panels are producing 25000WH/day....still enough to charge the batteries at 50% DoD.

Inverter
Xantrex XW6048 6000W 48Vdc with 100A charging current. This inverter will charge the battery bank to full within 5 to 6 hrs provided the bank do not go below 50% DoD.

@ saipro, this is exactly what I told u during my last visit to your house.

I remember saying he definately intends to maintain 50% dod at every point in town. And if by chance the bank is drained above 50% then... the xantrex has a super charger that can do the corrections in few hours with a generator and this is only needed only once in a while.

Urgent info is needed on where to buy SEVEN DAY TIMER SWITCH locally in naija.
I am aware its on ebay and the likes.
Its been a while since my 3 units of timer switches stopped working.
I remember reading online few months ago that the switches do die sudden deaths.
However, i believe the advantage supercds the life span.
When mine were still functional, i enjoyed the way my fridge comes up exactly 7am and off exactly 4pm.
Whenever i am traveling out of town, i connect all security lights to a socket....such that they come up 6.30pm and go off by 7am the following day.
It turned my neighbours to mumu...lols.

You probably have an open fuse. check the wall plug and the fuse behind the inverter. One of them is d culprit.

Perfectly so. My apologies. I failed to mention I've had a generic 1.4kVA inverter backed by two 200Ah batteries in parallel. I've a standby charger in case I need a quick "fix" to charge my batteries (the inverter charges a bit slower). This system can be keep me running for 24 hours and up to 36 hours. It's been doing that since 2008 when I returned to Ilorin. Discounting my heavy equipment (which never go on the backup power anyway), my total consumption is maxed out at 1400W in a day, typically about 900W. This is about max 400W during the day on weekends (which is when people are home) and up to 500W at night (if they're watching movies till 2am).

I'd actually done a bit (translated = a lot)) of research on the subject matter and been using inverters since around the year 2000 (irregularly then but stable since 2008) and both savings and reliability is why I want to upgrade to a hybrid system. Don't get me wrong, if I knew it all, I wouldn't be here. My area of interest is power systems so I know enough to tell you the theoretical stuff and the application on the field don't always tally in results. Nor expectations.

That's why I've voiced out my interest here. I've humbly come forward to glean from your extensive collective library of experience. Together we stick; apart we're stuck. I'm a DIY kinda guy and I don't wanna get stuck.

I had an issue yesterday with my inverter (2.5kva) with 4 batteries (Sukam), the inverter refused to come on after I powered down my generator. I don't use my generator to charge the inverter batteries because of the size,its a 2.2kva generator.

I tried to turn it on several times, initially it came on sounded the buzzer then went off, several other attempts to power it back up proved abortive. My inverter and the batteries are just 4 months old.

Please has any one experienced this before and what was the likely cause?

Check the two mcb at d back of the inverter. the battery side is probably off. at best check both.

i have 2×90 watt off sunmodule panels,10 amp charge controller,selfmade inverter(m an eee student like building circuit), i will get battery soon, am a student n i dont av so much load just a tv,dvd,a fan n 11watt energy saving bulb.
can some of these loads be powered on during d day n ba3 still get charge via my 2×90watt solar panel ... can't afford more than does panel for now.....if it will work den i will know i need only ba3 if it won't i can hold on for ba3 n buy more panels later
i just want real life feasibility abour d panel corresponding to d loads...ideally d load can b run for 6hrs perday...

@temizeee, I honestly think you can do the rest work your self. DO THE maths, present your results. then we may do some corrections. I am saying this because you said you study EEE.
Calculate your daily energy consumption in KWH.
Estimate how much energy your 2 by 90w pv will harvest in 4 to 5 hours daily in KWH.

l immediately dismantled the mppt,I was lucky it came back.
inverter also came back.
my sony tv(worth 165k) is still lying critically ill.
