Religion / Rude Things People Do In Church by Acelifted: 12:04pm On Jul 07, 2013
It doesn’t bother me anymore to hear a phone ringing during a church service. It’s part of life in the 21st century. But I’ll admit I was shocked last month when I heard a ringtone while I was preaching—and a woman seated in the third row pulled her phone out of her purse and began a lengthy conversation as if she were in the waiting room of a beauty parlor.

That incident prompted me to post a question on Facebook the next day. I asked my friends to share their own stories of rudeness in church. That triggered an avalanche of pent-up frustration about crinkly peppermint wrappers, loud music, smelly feet (yes, someone took off their shoes during the service), unruly children, coffee-sipping saints and parishioners who try to finish their pastors’ sentences during sermons.

When I tallied the responses, I came up with this list of the rudest things people do in church:

1. Talking during a service.

2. Texting or surfing the web during a service. (One person mentioned seeing people playing video games on their phones.)

3. Sleeping—or snoring!—during a sermon.

4. Clipping fingernails during church. (I was amazed at how many people listed this offense. One person said his church’s sound technician clipped his nails routinely during the sermon, and it was amplified over the loud speaker.)

5. Answering a ringing phone in church.

6. Constantly getting up and leaving the auditorium, presumably to use the restroom.

7. Walking out of a service early, especially during a prayer.

8. Letting babies cry incessantly in the service.

9. Chewing or smacking gum. (One friend from Puerto Rico said he is particularly annoyed when people “chew gum like a goat.”)

10. Public display of affection. (One person complained about a man and wife who enjoy giving each other back rubs during worship.)

Those were the most common replies. Other infractions mentioned in my unscientific poll included (1) “Pushing people to the floor while praying for them”; (2) “Saying ‘Amen’ 100 times during the sermon”; (3) “Taking change from the offering plate”; (4) “Swearing in church” (I didn’t ask for the details on that!); and (5) “Drinking beverages during the entire service.”

But as I mused over these replies, I couldn’t help but wonder: What does God consider rude?

I don’t think He’s too annoyed by crying babies or rambunctious children. Nor do I think God is offended if a husband and wife get slightly cozy in church. And surely God has compassion for a person whose tiny bladder forces them to go to the restroom more often than everyone else. Some of us just need to lighten up and extend grace to latecomers, fidgety kids, teeth-grinders, young mothers with infants and people who have to report to work promptly at 1 p.m.

But when I look at the Bible, it’s obvious God doesn’t like it when people refuse to focus their attention when He’s talking. He has called us to listen. Moses told the Hebrews they would be blessed if they listened to God’s commandments (Deut. 11:27, NASB). Solomon said that when we come to God’s house we should “draw near to listen rather than to offer the sacrifice of fools” (Eccl. 5:1, emphasis added).

Isaiah said that God awakened him “to listen as a disciple” (Isa. 50:4, emphasis added), while Jeremiah rebuked Israel because they “did not listen or incline their ears” (Jer. 17:23, emphasis added). And when Jesus was glorified in His transfiguration, the Father declared, “Listen to Him!” (Luke 9:35, emphasis added). There is no possible way we can please God or be His faithful followers if we don’t learn to listen.

Yet today we live in a distracted culture. We are sleep-deprived multitaskers. We surf the web while we watch TV; we text while we drive; we tweet while we work; we take calls when we are meeting friends for conversation. Some people even crash into each other while walking on sidewalks because they are too busy Googling to see another distracted Googler headed straight toward them.

We are so focused on everything that we can’t focus on anything. I sometimes wonder if the proliferation of fast food, sugary drinks, movies on demand, “smart” phones and 24-hour news isn’t rewiring our brains so we can’t focus on what’s really important. We’re turning into media zombies.

I’m not bashing technology. But we could lose the art of discipleship if we don’t reclaim the habit of careful listening. That means when we come to church, especially, we should not just turn off our phones but also tune out all other distractions so we can focus on what God is saying to us—through the preacher, the worship songs, the prayers and the Holy Spirit’s still, small voice.

Please don’t be rude to God. Don’t just go to church. Go and hear the word of the Lord. Don’t talk, text, sleep or take calls when He is speaking. Listen as if your life depended on it.

Pastor said so many things. But this was particularly emphatic-David was announced by God as a man after His own heart, yet He sinned and committed adultery and murder and God chastened him sore - He lost 3 sons and one of them (absolom) nearly killed him. You must take heed, watch and pray always, asking for mercy and making diligent effort to make your calling and inheritance sure. Though Moses was described as the meekest man on earth, yet his ill-temper caused him to strike the rock rather than just speak to it as instructed. That action cost him entrance into the promised land. Don't your christianity with levity or else you will loose ur inheritance for God is no respecter of persons. If He did for David and Moses, you are not an exception.

The revelations about the National Security Agency's surveillance apparatus, if true, represent a stunning abuse of our basic rights. We demand the U.S. Congress reveal the full extent of the NSA's spying programs.

Phones / Samsung Introduces GALAXY S4 Zoom by Acelifted: 11:21am On Jun 19, 2013

Samsung announced the Galaxy S4 Zoom on Wednesday, 12th of June, 2013; an Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean) operated camera phone that completely redefines the way people used the term back in the days when handsets either had cameras or didn’t. In fact, according to Gigaom.com, it is the first “phomera”.

As part of the GALAXY S4 family, the GALAXY S4 zoom is the realization of Samsung’s desire to create a single device that can fulfill the role of both an industry leading smartphone and a high-end compact camera. The Galaxy S4 Zoom includes a 16-megapixel camera sensor with optical image stabilization, a Zoom Ring for easy access to camera features and classic smartphone functionalities such as calling and texting. With these features and more, the GALAXY S4 zoom sets new standards for perfect mobile photography.

Some of its unique features include Optical Image Stabilizer (OIS) helps keep the camera perfectly still even when you’re not, reducing blur and stabilizing the image while zoomed in for high-quality photos and video. Also, the Photo Suggest feature instantly connects you to huge libraries of images taken by fellow photographers, to help you find and compose your best shots anywhere in the world. Photo Suggest can even direct you to the ideal nearby location which will give you the vantage point you need for that perfect photo. Furthermore, The GALAXY S4 zoom also features Samsung’s popular Smart Mode, so you can simply choose from a series of preset modes and the camera will automatically adjust to ensure you capture the best photo possible.

Other great features of the device includes the Story Album lets which lets you arrange all of your treasured images and videos into one timeline to share with friends and loved ones, the Samsung Link which allows transfer your images to your laptop or tablet for safe keeping with just the touch of a button and the Samsung Hub, a one-stop destination for all of the latest music, videos, books and games.

Culture / Must One Wear Pajamas To Bed? by Acelifted: 6:12pm On Jun 07, 2013
I hope this post is in the right section.
I am just want to know if there is something wrong medically or socially if one does not cultivate the habit of wearing pajamas to bed. Even though I don't wear my outing clothes to bed (that is ludicrous anyway) what I wear are just boxers, at times with a t-shirt and at times without any top, especially when it is hot.

1. I was not brought up with that practice.
2. I don't have the patience to start dressing up for sleep as if am going out (this time to the bed).
3. I am not comfortable sleeping with those clothes they call pajamas on me.
4. Nigeria's weather is too hot. I prefer going to bed with most part of my body exposed, even if am sleeping with the AC on.

For these reasons, I find sleeping with a pajamas really hard, though I make sure my kids do.

Politics / In The Light Of Comments By APC Leaders,Do You Think They Can Win In 2015? by Acelifted: 9:07pm On May 24, 2013
The comments and position of ACN and CPC bigwigs on this state of emergency issue is clearly showing that the expected APC (merger of CAN and CPC) is afterall not the messiah that was once chanted on NL when news of the merger came out. These men's sense of reasoning is completely beclouded by the craving for power. Their judgment of issues is no longer driven by reason, expert analysis of issues and honesty (even when it concerns an opposition party).

Stop attacking the person of GEJ. It is not politically correct to do so. Rather, attack policies with a good sense judgment, completely devoid of hate, envy and sentiments. That will always be the right way to play politics.

With the above said, am confident to submit that APC is far from taking over government in 2015; not withis attitude, position and sense of reason being displayed by their so-called leaders. Nigerians, it is not yet uhuru. Your deliverance from PDP may still be far-fetched

Car Talk / Re: New Frsc Driver's License by Acelifted: 9:39pm On May 21, 2013
Am in Ibadan. I began my processing by going online to fill their forms. For renewal, I entered my DL number and the system coughed out my other details. I filled the other required fields and submitted. It took me to the payment details page (N6,350) which I printed and took to the bank (FCMB, UCH branch) and paid. I then took 2 copies of all printouts to FRSC office @ Jericho (around Dugbe axis) and the stress began. I got there around 8.30am and met a queue. I was eventually given the 53rd number. It eventually got to my turn around 1pm. My printouts were examined to be sure I paid a mandatory N100 fee and collect one form that I still don't see the use. I was spared the hullabaloo of the test questions they usually asked before signing your forms. Somebody told me he was turned back the previous day for missing a question.

After approval, I made 3 extra copies, submitted 2 and kept one as my temporary license. All this happened about 2 months ago. I have been to FRSC for biometric data capture on the day specified on the temporary license only to be told that there are no materials (there hasn't been materials since). I was asked to just keep checking until they have materials. So am still going about with temporary paper license.

That is my story, in this wonderful country Nigeria, where we jump into the river only to realize that we cannot swim. Is it not better we stuck to the old process until we are certain there are enough materials to cater for about 75% of potential users before embarking on this kind of project? Why will you keep a country's workforce in one single spot simply because they want to process their drivers' license? Even the bible says if you want to embark on a building project, sit down and calculate the cost vis-a-vis your income lest you get stuck midway and become an object of ridicule.
Am still paying periodic visits to FRSC hoping to be told that they now have materials.

If force won't stop them, what will? They tried persuasion and caution...BH said NO. They tried Amnesty, BH said NO. So let's try force. Agreed, force may not have worked in some cases in the past, but at this point, we are really left with no option. Politics / Okiro Nominated By GEJ To Head Police Service Commission (PSC) by Acelifted: 1:12pm On May 13, 2013
POLICE officers have praised President Godluck Jonathan for nominating Sir Mike Okiro for the Senate’s approval to head the Police Service Commission (PSC).

Most of them commended the President for choosing Okiro, a former Inspector-General of Police (IGP), whom they believe will effect better changes in the security outfit.

The tenure of the incumbent chairman, DIG Parry Osayande, is expected to expire this month.

In Lagos State Police command, headquarters, Ikeja, officers and rank and file were happy and expressed satisfaction with the development. In Edo State, shouts of joy by senior and junior officers rent the air in most offices as soon as the announcement was made on Wednesday.

Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) in charge of Zone 5 Benin, Hashimu Argungu, disclosed that officers under him were celebrating Okiro’s nomination.

Technology Market / Re: Which Tv Is Best - 3d, Led, Plasma, Lcd, Flat Screen Or Smart Tv? by Acelifted: 1:04pm On May 13, 2013
An "LED HDTV" is an LCD that uses either edge or back-lit LEDs. Contrary to popular belief, it is not an entirely new type of HDTV, but a newer form of technology that typically results in a much thinner screen than LCD, with superior energy efficiency. There is practically no visible difference in quality between an LCD and LED TV.
Squidoo.com (http://www.squidoo.com/lcd-televisions)

Like a smartphone, a smart TV offers a number of "Internet-connected services" that normal televisions can't offer. It has the equivalent of a computer built into it, giving you a greater number of services. These televisions offer apps, media streaming, Web browsing, games and, perhaps most importantly, Internet Protocol Television (IPTV). IPTV is a specific Internet video standard, but is also used nowadays as shorthand for any video streamed via the Internet to your TV. It can take the form of short clips or continuous "live" channels.

Am beginning to really consider the above (Smart TV) additional feature to LCD.
