redsun: I bet the work of electrical engineers in nigeria is just to copy oyinbo written testbooks and write notes,while the technicians put them into prcatice.In the case of mechanical,the road side mechanics do the practical,intelligent and dirty works,while oga engineer wouldnt want to leave the comfort of his airconditioned office to stain his hands and suits.And in most cases does not even understand his basic tools.

Most of those julius berger "expatraites" are handymen/women and trained technicians,no where near universities,but they control and instruct qualified engineers who runs around like errand boys in nigeria.

In Chinese or Indian nations they give more room for practical and technical aspect of it.

How many fresh graduate engineers who can pieces(or open) a tractor or caterpillar in order to repair it?
Same thing applied in electrical,since most of what they are taught were in theory...in this case,both the 'novice' technician(as someone above rightly called them) and the engineer are at the same category.

One is educated novice(the engineer)
while the later is illitreate expert(the technician)
