The 2018-19 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) season is no longer feasible after the authority of the league has now postponed the NPFL kick off indefinitely.

The postponement came from the backdrop of the Nigeria National League management inability to come up with promoted teams barely few days to earlier suggested kick-off date of the elite league.

In a statement from the League Management Company (LMC) to club managers, stated that the Congress, which supposes to hold on Tuesday, November 27, in Asaba, has been postponed without a new date.

Meanwhile, the club managers in the Nigeria National League (NNL) who are supposed to meet in Abuja next week are clamouring for eight teams to gain promotion to the NPFL as against the agreed four teams from NNL to NPFL.

2018/2019 NPFL season will soon get new date according to the official of the league.

LMC Holds 2018/2019 Season Draws Despite Uncertainty Over Kick -off Date
The draws for the 2018/2019 Nigeria Professional Football League season was conducted at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba on Tuesday.

The draws for the new season took place in the stadium at the half time of the Super Cup between Lobi stars and Rangers International which ended 1-0 in favour of Lobi stars.

Twenty teams were grouped in two different groups with four promoted teams in the NNL expected to join the already twenty NPFL clubs to make it twenty four after the crisis rocking the Nigeria National league NNL must have been resolved.

The 2018/19 season will be played on abridged format as the teams will be selected to join either of the two abridged group based on their location (North and South).

Meanwhile, there are uncertainties on the number of teams that will be promoted from the NNL to the NPFL as well as the kick off date for 2018/19 NPFL season.

Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr is set to make at least six changes to his starting line-up to face Uganda Cranes in Tuesday’s international friendly, according to Complete Sports


Rohr who qualified the Super Eagles for the 2019 Africa Cup Of Nations championship after missing out on two editions revealed during his pre-match interview that Ikechukwu Ezenwa will play no part in the international friendly billed for the Stephen Keshi stadium in Asaba, Delta State.

Recall that Ezenwa was in goal for the Super Eagles who were held to a 1-1 draw away to South Africa at the FNB Stadium last Saturday.


“We have two goalkeepers who didn’t play against South Africa, we’ll make about six changes because we want to see everyone,” Rohr revealed during his pre-match conference on Monday ahead of the game.

“Afelokhai and Akpeyi will feature in both halves of the game.”

The German tactician is expected to start Daniel Akpeyi in goal for the game with Rotherham United defender Semi Ajayi partnering William Troost Ekong in the heart of the Super Eagles defense.

Bryan Idowu who missed the team’s last three games will start at right-back while Jamilu Collins keeps his place at left-back.

In midfield, Victoria Setubal midfielder Mikel Agu could line up alongside John Ogu and Oghenekaro Etebo while Isaac Success is set to lead the lines for the Super Eagles and he will be flanked by captain Ahmed Musa and Samuel Kalu.

Meanwhile, a 31–man Uganda Cranes delegation arrived Asaba Monday evening and trained the Stephen Keshi stadium ahead of the clash.

The Cranes were 1-0 winners in their last encounter against the Super Eagles in a friendly game played at the Akwa Ibom stadium in Uyo in March 2015.

Farouk Miya scored with a powerful header to ruin Vincent Enyeama’s 100th international match for the Super Eagles.

The game will kickoff at 4.30pm.

Atletico Madrid ace, Antoine Griezmann has disclosed that he rejected a move to Barcelona because he doesn’t want to be captain, Lionel Messi’s lieutenant at Camp Nou.

Griezmann opted to reject an £87million move to the Catalan club in June, and committed his future to Atletico.

The French international decided to stay with Atletico, and extended his contract to 2023.

Barcelona then had to settle for the Brazilian winger, Malcom, who was signed from French Ligue 1 side, Bordeaux.

“Was it hard to refuse Barca? It was very difficult,” Givemesport quoted Griezmann as saying. “You have Barca who wants you, who calls you, who sends messages.

“But then there is the club where you are, where you are an important player and where they build a project around you.

“And subconsciously, being Messi’s lieutenant may have played a part.

“But my team-mates and people at the club [Atleti] did everything, they came to talk to me, they increased my salary.

“They did everything to show that it was my home and that I shouldn’t leave. It was really complicated times, especially for my wife where I woke her up at 3am to talk about it!”

Chelsea loanee Kenneth Omeruo will play no part in Tuesday afternoon's friendly between the Super Eagles and Uganda that will hold at the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba.

The CD Leganés central defender has been excused from the game for personal reasons.

The second player confirmed out of the friendly is Brighton & Hove star Leon Balogun who didn't travel with the team to Asaba.

The remaining 21 players who made the trip to Johannesburg were seen embarking from the plane that brought the team to the Delta State capital on Sunday morning.

Omeruo and Balogun played the full duration of Nigeria's 1-1 draw with South Africa at the FNB Stadium, a result that guaranteed a spot at the Africa Cup of Nations finals in Cameroon.

Meanwhile, Chelsea loanee Ola Aina is doubtful to win his seventh international cap against Uganda due to inflammation of the heel and this ailment kept him out of the match day squad against Bafana Bafana, according to coach Gernot Rohr.

Report has it that the Gambian referee who officiated the AFCON 2019 qualifying match between Bafana Bafana and Nigeria on Saturday in South Africa – has apologised for the costly mistakes made by officials during the game.

The Gambian football referee identified as Bakary Papa Gassama apologised to the Nigerian team after wrongly denying them two goals due to wrong offside calls, according to a report by OwnGoalNigeria.


Ahmed Musa put through Kelechi Iheanacho who tapped home believing he has given Nigeria the lead but Musa who supplied the pass was judged by the assistant referee as been in an offside position, something which turned out to be wrong after video replays.

In the second half with less than five minutes to go, Musa was once again at the receiving end of another poor referee decision as he was once again flagged offside incorrectly after slotting home what could have given Nigeria all three points.


The game ended 1-1 with Nigeria sealing her passage to next year Africa Cup of Nations but officials of the Nigeria Football Federation ( NFF) still expressed their unhappiness to Gassama over the poor decision which cost Nigeria a win.

Gassama admitted the error and even went a step further by sending his apologies to Musa over the incident although he admitted that such errors are sometimes unavoidable particularly due to the non-availability of the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) .

Nigeria coach Gernot Rohr has stated that his tactics made life difficult for South Africa.

The Super Eagles settled for a 1-1 draw with Bafana Bafana at FNB Stadium in Saturday’s 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers to make the finals billed for Cameroon next year.

Rohr settled for a 3-5-2 formation that had not been in use since their ouster from the World Cup in Russia and his side were unlucky not to have won the game after two questionable offside calls denied them two other goals.

"South Africa is a very good team. We knew it will be a difficult game it was very hot we arrived yesterday morning without sleeping in the night and second half was very difficult,” Rohr said after the game.

“We started the match well. We struck the first goal and our tactics was okay they had to come against our defensive block and it was difficult for South Africa.


“We tried to score the second goal because we play to win all the time. Today we didn’t win, we did not want to take any risk because we knew a draw is just like a victory.”

The Super Eagles return to the showpiece after garnering 10 points from five games to remain Group E leaders.

Danny Welbeck has broken his ankle and has undergone surgery on the injury, Arsenal head coach Unai Emery confirmed.

The English striker was substituted with a stretcher in the goalless draw against Sporting CP in the Europa league on Thursday night.

Edo State Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu became the first serving governor in Nigeria to feature in the country’s football league as visiting Bendel Insurance FC played a 1-1 draw with Spartans in Lagos on Wednesday.

It was a rescheduled Nigeria National League (NNL) match in which the Edo state number two citizen stole the show as he inspired Insurance to a strong finish in the second tier league.

The Edo state-owned club had already secured promotion to the elite league on Monday by overcoming Shooting Stars 2-1 in Benin to occupy the roof of Group B1 in the NNL.

It was a feat they achieved after playing in the lower division for 10 years following their relegation from the then Nigeria Premier League at the end of the 2007/2008 season.

Shaibu, 48, came on in the second-half to the delight of fans as he showed flashes of brilliance in contributing his part to the club’s share of the spoils at the Agege Stadium.

Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero has signed a one-year contract extension that will keep him at the club until 2021.
Aguero, 30, joined City from Atletico Madrid in 2011 for a reported £38m.

Arsenal manager Unai Emery has made it clear of his intention to keep Aaron Ramsey. The Welsh is yet to sign a new contract with the Gunners.

Russian President, Vladimir Putin has reacted to his country’s 4-3 penalty loss to Croatia in the ongoing World Cup.

According to Russia’s coach, Stanislav Cherchesov, the president called in at the end of the game in Sochi to commend and congratulate the national team on their efforts.

Cherchesov quoted Putin as saying that “what they showed on the pitch was great”.

Former Super Eagles coach, Sunday Oliseh on Monday revealed why he named forward, Ahmed Musa as the national team captain during his time as manager.

In an interview with Brila FM, the USA ’94 World Cup star, said that he decided to name Musa Eagles’ captain when he was coaching Nigeria because the Leicester City star had nice sense of humour.

Oliseh, however, added that the 25-year-old was a very good player.

He said, “The best role that fits a player is the position the coach decides for him.

“Mikel was very good in front of the defense. Musa was great. He is a good player and has a nice sense of humour, that’s one of the reasons I made him captain of the team when I was the coach”.

Oliseh added, “I will love to see Belgium play Nigeria in the knockout stages of the World Cup. Let’s hope by Wednesday morning, we’ll be happy that we qualified for the round of 16”.

Popular Ajegunle musician and originator of Alanta Dance, Peter Alanta is dead.
It was learnt that the singer passed on moments ago after battling undisclosed illness for months.

Alanta came into the limelight in the early
2000s with his hit song, entitled Alanta.

Raymond King and Artquake also remixed the song.

The latest reigning dance, Shaku Shaku was said to have being derived from his popular dance.

The deceased, whose contemporaries are Marvelous Benji, Oriste Femi, Professor Linkin, Omo Jesu, also had other hit songs to his credit.

Confirming the sad incident, his colleague and friend, Kimi Rankin, slammed his fans for abandoning him.

He said, “When Alanta was alive who cared? How many of us showed him love?”

Also reacting to the sad incident, Denge Pose crooner, Baba Fryo called on musicians who benefited from the deceased’s intellectual work to ‘do something.’

He said, “I just saw this post on Facebook that peter Aka Alanta the Originator of Alanta dance is dead, if it is true, those popular artistes who benefited from his creative work should do something.”

Fernando Hierro will take charge of Spain for the duration of the World Cup following the sacking of Julen Lopetegui, the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has confirmed.

The 50-year-old former national team captain was appointed within hours of the announcement of Lopetegui's departure.

The RFEF did not specify whether Hierro may continue in the role beyond the finals in Russia.
Lopetegui was sensationally sacked on Wednesday after agreeing to become the next Real Madrid head coach, with RFEF president Luis Rubiales furious that the European champions only informed him of the deal minutes before the news was made public.

Rubiales told a news conference that he was left with no choice but to dismiss Lopetegui, just three weeks after he signed a new contract until 2020, and stressed the need to appoint a replacement without causing undue disruption to the squad.

Hierro, a winner of five LaLiga titles and three Champions Leagues in a glittering Madrid career, is relatively inexperienced as a coach.

He was an assistant to Carlo Ancelotti at Madrid during the 2014-15 season before taking charge of second-tier Oviedo in 2016-17.

Hierro has been working as Spain's sporting director since last November

Brazilian Team Mates Bathe Coutinho With Egg And Flour As He Turns 26.

Today, Brazil team celebrated Philippe Coutinho's 26th birthday on Tuesday.

As the squad trained in the blistering heat in Sochi, the players took it upon themselves to lighten the mood by covering the Barcelona playmaker in eggs and flour, as is tradition in Brazil.

Neymar and Gabriel Jesus were the prime instigators, rounding on Coutinho during the session. The Paris Saint-Germain star launched the flour before his strike partner Jesus cracked open an egg on Coutinho's head as he lay there helpless while his team-mates erupted with laughter.
