Norwich City are delighted to announce that centre-back Akin Famewo has signed a new three-and-a-half-year contract with the Club, extending his stay at Carrow Road until June 2023.

Famewo joined City’s academy in January 2019 from Luton Town and became the captain of David Wright’s Under-23s team for the 2019-20 season.

The defender has also been involved in Daniel Farke’s first-team setup in training and matchday squads this season.

Speaking exclusively to canaries.co.uk, he said: “It’s hard to describe how I’m feeling right now because there’s a lot of excitement and good vibes.

“It’s been a big step up to working with the first-team because the intensity of the Premier League is a lot faster and stronger, but I feel like I’m learning and adapting to it.”

Famewo was first named on the bench for City’s first-team squad in October’s Premier League game at home to Aston Villa, and travelled to the south-coast for the following game against AFC Bournemouth.



“The first time I went into training with the first-team I was very excited,” he said. “It’s where I want to be, and it was just a good feeling. I’m excited to learn and develop.

“It’s not as easy to boss people about now but no-one takes anything personally in games! It’s all about helping each other out and playing as a unit.

“The aim is to play and eventually be involved in the first-team, so I’m taking good steps. I want to represent the club for as long as possible.

“My mum’s side of the family are from Norwich so they’re extremely happy and my dad’s very proud as well!”

Head Coach Daniel Farke said: “I’m delighted for Akin. He’s developed a lot over the last period and his new deal is well deserved.

“Akin has recently stepped up to first team training and has adapted very well. We know he still needs time to develop, but he is very much on the right track. He’s a good person and has a good presence and energy around him.”

The body of Ricardo Marques Ferreira was discovered in a Zurich hotel room late on Friday night with multiple stab wounds according to Swiss police.


The body of hairdresser and Madeira native Ricardo Marques Ferreira who listed Juventus striker Cristiano Ronaldo as one of his key clients was discovered by Zurich police late on Friday night with multiple stab wounds to his upper body report Portuguese daily Correio da Manhã.

A Brazilian man was later detained by Swiss police allegedly linked with the crime with a the Zurich Forensic Institute confirming in a statement: "A 39-year-old Brazilian was arrested by regional police investigators at his place of residence and taken to the relevant prosecutor's office. The background and motive of the crime are subject to ongoing investigation."

Ferreira had been living in the Swiss city for the past two years and was the personal hairdresser for a number of high profile celebrities including Cristiano Ronaldo and several Portuguese models and actresses including Isabel Angelino, Liliana Campos and Fatima Lopes. The death of the Madeirense has caused shock-waves amongst the sizeable Portuguese community in the Swiss city.

Arsenal head of football Raul Sanllehi reportedly dined with Jose Mourinho this week as the club consider pulling the trigger with a managerial change.


According to The Times, Mourinho and Sanllehi had dinner together, with the Portuguese boss said to have impressed with his plans for their squad.

Mourinho has been holding out for a return to the Premier League as he eyes his first job since being sacked by Manchester United last December.

During his work as a pundit with Sky Sports, he has spoken of his admiration for Arsenal's club record signing Nicolas Pepe, something working in his favour with the Gunners hierarchy.

The fact he got the best out of Mesut Ozil at Real Madrid has also gone down well with Sanllehi as he looks for a new manager capable of getting them back into the Champions League.

Having retained a home in north London, Mourinho is reportedly being advised a move to Arsenal would be his best move, rather than heading back to Real Madrid if Zinedine Zidane is sacked.

France legend, Thierry Henry has revealed how he managed to keep Nigeria hero, Kanu Nwankwo on the bench during their time at Arsenal.

Kanu and Dennis Bergkamp were initially ahead of Henry in Arsene Wenger’s pecking order of strikers when he joined the North London club from Juventus in the 1999-2000 season.

The former France striker and 1998 World Cup winner admitted that he struggled in his first few months at Arsenal before forcing his way into the starting line-up.

The Frenchman became untouchable world class striker at Arsenal, scoring a remarkable 228 goals over the course of 377 games which made him the club’s record goalscorer in history.

Speaking on Jamie Carragher’s Greatest Game podcast, Henry said, ”The game that changed everything for me was Middlesbrough at home in November, my first season.

“We won 5-1 with three goals from Overmars and two from Bergkamp. Kanu was playing and Suker came on. I stayed on the bench.

”It’s November now. I scored Southampton and then I am not doing anything again. After that game home, I went back and I actually took the tube. I walked amongst the fans and nobody saw me….

Philippe Coutinho has been baptised as a new member of the House of Destiny church in Germany.


The act of faith took place in the Bayern Munich player's house and specifically in his bathtub by the pastor Tiago Brunet, who shared a video on social media.


Coutinho was accompanied by his wife and posted a picture of the couple alongside the pastor and his partner on his personal account.

"Thank you, Pastor Brunet and Jeanine Brunet," wrote the Brazil international.

Brazilian football idol Cafu, who played in four World Cups for his country, has spoken for the first time since the death of his son Danilo.


His son passed away after suffering a heart attack at just 30 years of age while playing football.

In an interview with Veja magazine, the legendary right-back spoke about what his life has been like since the tragic incident took place.

On September 4, Danilo played a game in the residential area where the family lives in Alphaville, Sao Paulo, when he began to feel unwell.

Cafu was also on the pitch during the incident and subsequently carried his son's body on his shoulders following his collapse, putting him in his car and taking him to the hospital.

When they arrived however, doctors, were unable to revive him.

He died from coronary atherosclerosis, an inflammation of the wall of the arteries of the heart, and had a history of heart issues.

Since then, Cafu has not been able to enter the room of the eldest of his three children, nor return to the football field where the traumatic incident took place.

"Danilo was on my team and, after half time he was substituted off while I kept playing," Cafu said as he explained what happened.

"Three minutes later I noticed a commotion.

"Out of curiosity, I went to see what was happening and I found my son suffering seizures.

"I panicked because he had a history of cardiac issues.

"When we arrived at the hospital, after half an hour a doctor called me.

"I told him 'you don't need to say anything, I can see that he is not responding'.

"I stood praying and asking God not to take my child.

"It was not possible."

Cafu went on to talk about the pain of losing a child.

"The emotion of burying a child cannot be compared to anything else that you have felt throughout your life," he said.

"Every five days I go to the cemetery to visit his grave.

"I haven't accepted it yet, I haven't had the courage to enter his room.

"My son Wellington recovered some of his things and donated them.

"I have never gone to the pitch where the incident happened.

"The death of a son haunts a father and a mother for the rest of their lives.

"Every day I cry alone.

"When I enter the house, I try to be strong.

"After all, I am the pillar of the family.

"I cry when I'm driving and call my friends just to cry.

"They know it and remain silent, then I cry and cry and cry.

"Crying relieves the pain. "

He thanked the support he has been shown by friends, family and colleagues from the world of football, revealing that he received over 5,000 messages when he finally turned his phone back on a few days after the funeral.

Arsenal captain Granit Xhaka has given an explanation of why he gestured towards fans and swore at them, after he was jeered as he was substituted during their 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace.


In a statement, Xhaka wrote: "After taking some time to reflect on what happened on Sunday afternoon, I would like to give you an explanation rather than just a quick response.

"The scenes that took place around my substitution have moved me deeply. I love this club and always give 100% on and off the pitch.

"My feeling of not being understood by fans, and repeated abusive comments at matches and in social media over the last weeks and months have me deeply.

"People have said things like "We will break your legs", "Kill your wife" and "Wish that your daughter gets cancer".

"That has stirred me up and I reached boiling point when I felt the rejection in the stadium on Sunday.


"In this situation, I let myself be carried away and reacted in a way that disrespected the group of fans that support our club, our team and myself with positive energy.

"That has not been my intention and I'm sorry if that's what people thought.

"My wish is that we get back to a place of mutual respect, remembering why we fell in love with this game in the first place.

"Let's move forward positively together."

Arsenal return to action against Wolves on Saturday although it remains unclear if Xhaka will be involved.

Arsenal captain Granit Xhaka has changed his Instagram profile photo after his outburst in 2-2 Crystal Palace draw, replacing former Arsenal shirt with Switzerland national team.


In Arsenal 2-2 Crystal Palace, Arsenal fans burst into ironic cheers when Xhaka's number was held up to be replaced by youngster Bukayo Saka.

But Xhaka's attempt fell on deaf ears as the crowd then started to boo their captain because he was walking - not running off.

A visibly irate Xhaka reacted to the jeers by cupping his ear to the crowd before appearing to mouth ‘f*** off’ as he stormed down the tunnel. Xhaka ripped off his shirt off as he declined a seat back on the bench.

Arsenal will meet with captain Granit Xhaka in the next few days to discuss his angry reaction to being substituted during Sunday’s 2-2 home draw with Crystal Palace, according to Sky Sport.


Xhaka is due to return to training on Tuesday ahead of Arsenal's Carabao Cup fourth-round tie against Liverpool on Wednesday.

The Football Association will not be taking any action against Xhaka after he was seen swearing and gesturing to Arsenal fans as he was booed off.

Xhaka, who has conceded more fouls (22) than any other Premier League player this season, has been substituted in three of the nine Premier League matches he has featured in this term.

It is not known at this stage whether Arsenal are considering removing the captain's armband from Xhaka.

Asked after the game if Xhaka would remain Arsenal captain, boss Unai Emery said: "Now is not the time to talk about that."

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is now the bookies' favourite to captain Arsenal in their next Premier League match.

Xhaka is now 9/4 with Sky Bet to leave Arsenal in January despite signing a new long-term Arsenal contract in June last year.

Cristiano Ronaldo was the star on the front cover of this week's France Football magazine. The organisation that awards football's most esteemed prize for an individual player sat down with the Juventus star to find out more about him.

Cristiano has tended to shy away from questions about the end of his playing career, but confirmed to the French outlet that he will switch off for at least a while when the time eventually comes to hang up his boots.

"When I finish my career, I will disconnect from everything," the Real Madrid legend concluded.

Following the news that Cristiano was speaking to France Football, there were some reports coming out of Italy that the expectation is he could be getting ever-closer to winning a record sixth golden award.

Mystery and anger continues to surround the decision to rule out Arsenal's late winning 'goal' in their 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace on Sunday.


On a toxic evening of controversy and vitriol, which included Arsenal captain Granit Xhaka appearing to swear at the home supporters after being booed, the Gunners thought they had snatched victory in the 85th minute when Sokratis Papastathopoulos bundled the ball in after a corner.

After lengthy celebrations, and despite no apparent protests from the Palace players, the goal was ruled out for a foul - believed to have been committed by Calum Chambers.

But replays of the goal, which weren't shown in the ground in any case, proved inconclusive, suggesting that Chambers had in fact been pushed and then tripped during the scramble.

Clear and obvious views of opposing managers

While Crystal Palace boss Roy Hodgson told reporters after the game "I've seen it now and understand why it was disallowed", the decision bewildered under-pressure Unai Emery.

"That is not a foul," said Emery. "VAR said it was a foul but I checked it after and it's a goal.

"VAR is positive and we need VAR. But we need to manage that in the right way."

The Arsenal boss was further aggrieved at the apparent inconsistencies surrounding the intervention - and the decision to overrule the match referee in the first half to award Palace a spot-kick - after his side had two penalty appeals ignored in their defeat at Sheffield United on Monday.

"It was amazing to check that penalty. In the last match here against Bournemouth, we deserved a very clear penalty, more clear than this evening, but they didn't check. OK, it wasn't important in the final result because we won 1-0. Last week in Sheffield, we had a very clear penalty on Sokratis at 0-0. It was a very important moment but they didn't check. We respected it and we lost," complained Emery.

Referring to the refusal of Premier League referees to watch replays on the available touchline screens, the Arsenal boss added: "If the referee watched that action on the TV, I am sure he would not decide that it was a foul. In the office with the TV, I don't know who the person is who decides this. Who is the person who checked that?"

So who did rule out Arsenal's winner?

Jarred Gillett was the VAR official for Arsenal's clash with Palace. A 32-year-old Australian, Gillett has never taken charge of a Premier League game, with his refereeing experience in England limited to nine Football League fixtures.

Alexandre Lacazette has liked an Instagram post criticising Arsenal manager Unai Emery and club captain Granit Xhaka after the 2-2 home draw with Crystal Palace.


Pressure is mounting on Emery after the Gunners spurned a two-goal lead and Xhaka appeared to tell fans to 'f*** off' as he was being substituted on the hour mark.

And it would appear the jeers of disgruntled fans resonated with Lacazette, as the Frenchman liked troopzafc's post in the aftermath of the disappointing draw.


'Troopz', who is known for his appearances on Youtube channel AFTV, posted a picture of himself swearing towards the camera in the stands at the Emirates stadium.

Emery is set to discuss the Arsenal captaincy with club officials after Xhaka's misconduct, and it will be interesting to see how the Spaniard responds to Lacazette's act of defiance.

Nigeria international stole the show in Madrid with a woman-of-the-match display but her compatriot was taken off in tears


Asisat Oshoala struck a brace as Barcelona beat Madrid 4-0 but her compatriot Chidinma Okeke suffered a potentially serious injury on Saturday.

A goal in each half from Oshoala plus Jennifer Hermoso's strike guided Barcelona past Víctor Fernández's side in Qatar in a Spanish Primera Iberdrola encounter.

But, Marid were left sweating on Okeke's injury after the Nigeria international was carried away in tears with Laura Teruel replacing her in the 25th minute.

The Nigeria international who scored in four consecutive matches for Llius Cortes' ladies this season, broke the deadlock two minutes from half time at Nuevo Matapinonera Stadium.

After the restart, the 25-year-old continued from where she left as she was set up by Caroline Hansen to grab her second league brace of the season two minutes into the second half.

In the 73rd minute, Hansen provided her third assist of the match as Jenni Hermoso netted the third for Barca before substitute Aitana Bonmati scored two minutes from time to seal the victory.

Oshoala, who was in action for 68 minutes before being replaced by Bonmati, has now scored in five successive games for Barcelona and has eight goals in 11 games in all competitions this season.

Her brace also saw her move into second spot on the scoring chart with seven goals from seven league games - one behind her teammate Hermoso who scored her eighth in the contest.

The result means Barcelona extended their winning streak to seven matches in all competitions, holding a point lead at the summit of the Spanish Primera Iberdrola log after seven matches.

On the other hand, the defeat saw Madrid suffer their third loss in a row, but are still seventh on the log pending other results. They will visit Logrono for the next game before the international break.

After the win, Oshoala and Barcelona will shift focus to their Champions League campaign, with their next fixture a Round of 16-second leg clash with Minsk on Wednesday.

David died in a motor accident
David Nwachukwu, the personal assistant to Nigerian-born Leicester City player, Kelechi Iheanacho on Saturday died in a ghastly motor accident, according to Punch.

It was gathered that David was said to be the Super Eagles player’s closest confidant.

Nwachukwu, who hailed from Ohaji/Egbema area of Imo State, the same area with the footballer was in a pathfinder jeep when the deadly accident occurred.

An eyewitness told our correspondent that the incident happened beside Alvana modern secondary school, located along Owerri-Onitsha Expressway in Owerri, the Imo State capital.

He was riding alone and was said to be on high speed when the crash occurred.

A source said that the deceased ram into a stationary articulated vehicle and died on the spot.

His remains had been deposited in a morgue, our correspondent gathered.

His neighbours, Paulcy Iwuala and Abuoma Ozurigbo, confirmed his death.

Ozurigbo said “What a black Saturday. Just yesterday at our Estate we (David Nwachukwu and him) discussed how we were going to fly together to Abuja soon because your friend, Kelechi Iheanacho, is coming back.

“What a life. This one hurts badly.”

Iwuala, described, Nwachukwu, as a good person who would be missed by everybody who knew him.

Iwuala said “This is very difficult to bear. He was a very good guy. He used to live opposite me. We lived in the same estate. Kelechi Iheanacho would be devastated by this loss. They were very close. They grew up together. He virtually does everything for Kelechi Iheanacho in Nigeria.”

Accra High Court has ordered Ghanaian star and NorthEast United striker, Asamoah Gyan, to pay his estranged wife, Gifty Gyan, £18,450.74 as maintenance fee.



Justice Hafisata Amaleboba of the court’s divorce and matrimonial division ruled that the money should be paid for the upkeep of Gyan’s three children in Gifty’s custody.



As the court prepares to give its final ruling on their divorce case, Justice Amaleboba maintained that Asamoah Gyan must settle bills and other expenditures covering water, electricity, gas, feeding, and others in arrears commencing from July 2018 to September 2019, totalling £18,450.74.



The order also includes “bills in respect of groceries £1, 500, fuel-£250, calls-£50, clothing-£200 in arrears commencing July 2019 to September 2019 totalling – £6,000”.



The Matrimonial Court also ordered that “bills for MoT (Ministry of Transport) Tax and insurance for the year 2019, amounting to £1,700 be paid. Gyan is also to pay the educational expenses of the three children, including those in arrears from July 2018 to September 2019 covering (pockets money, school trips, books etc), amounting to £2,800.



Asamoah Gyan, who is Ghana’s most capped player and highest goal-scorer, has been embroiled in a fresh setback that saw him lose his captaincy following a brawl with Black Stars coach ahead of AFCON.



Asamoah Gyan’s wife is seeking a divorce after Gyan accused her of sleeping around, demanding for a DNA test to ascertain the truth about the identity of their children.

Nigeria rapper YCee has named his new music track titled "Mo Salah" after the Liverpool forward.

Salah has established himself as a key player at Anfield since his arrival from Roma in 2017. His goalscoring form helped Liverpool clinch the Uefa Champions League title last campaign.

The song, Mo Salah, was released on Friday and it is one of the tracks on the rapper's upcoming debut album "YCee vs Zaheer" that will be released on November 8.

In the track, YCee likened himself to the Egyptian superstar who has won the African Footballer of the Year twice in a row (2017 and 2018) and who also won the Premier League Golden Boot back-to-back in the last two seasons.

Salah has scored seven goals across all competitions this season and he will be looking to score his first Premier League goal since September 14 when Liverpool host Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield on Sunday.

FIFA have unveiled the official logo that will be used at the 2019 Club World Cup in Qatar, which takes place between 11 and 22 December.


The competition will feature European Champions Liverpool, Qatar Stars League champions Al-Sadd, the winners of the CONCACAF, CAF and OFC Champions League competitions (Monterrey, Espérance de Tunis and Hienghène Sport respectively), in addition to the yet-to-be-decided winners of the 2019 Copa Libertadores.

The logo has been designed to reflect the cultural history of Qatar, which will be hosting a major international tournament for the first time ahead of the 2022 World Cup.

In the design, a football has been rendered in the form of a pearl in a nod to one of Qatar’s historical industries with the sphere decorated in the manner of a mashrabiya, a traditional architectural element across the Middle East.

"When I finish training I call my mum because she is everything. My mum did everything to help me play so everyday when I come home I call her." It's not just his mother and brothers who he has supporting Villa from back home in the south-east of Brazil.

"I had my first child when I was 14 years old, it was difficult because it was during this time that I started to try and play football professionally. I had to work in the day and then go to training in the evening."


Playing football and being a father proved a tough balancing act but he began to take the sport more seriously when baby number two came along. "I was 14 when I had my first kid and 16 when I had my second. When I had my children I told myself I had to do everything to be a football player."

It was a lot of pressure for Wesley to deal with, the Premier League must seem like a breeze, "When I play I have to think about my family, my kids, my mum, everybody."

The clock was ticking then. Make it as a professional footballer or get a job in order to support his new family. Wesley made the journey to Spain for six months but despite training and learning from Diego Costa, his trial didn't work out at Atletico Madrid.

Shorter spells in France went the same way and he soon found himself back in Brazil working in a factory, "I had to do something," he says. "I had to get money for my kids. I would go to a team and every team said no. I went to six teams before going to Slovakia.

"When I went to the sixth team I thought I didn't want to play football anymore. I thought it was finished for me. Then I got a chance."

The opportunity came when he was 19 in a small town called Trencin in Slovakia, quite the contrast to what he was used to. "The first few weeks there were difficult. It was very very cold. The first three months I think it was snowing all the time."

He gestures towards his toes. "I came from Brazil and I couldn't feel my feet so it was difficult to play football." Temperatures barely climbed above freezing in Trencin but that was where Wesley's career began to take an upward trajectory.


He converted from a midfielder to a striker. "When you play midfield you have to think fast and then I moved to play as a striker and kept thinking fast." A forward as sizeable as Wesley was a tricky proposition for defenders and a transfer to Club Brugge in Belgium quickly followed.

Nineteen league goals across two seasons saw Villa pay out a club-record fee for Wesley following their promotion to the Premier League, so does the 22-year-old think about what might have been? "I am very happy playing in the Premier League in the biggest competition in the world.

"Every day I think about the past, you know, what I was thinking when teams were saying no to me so I'm very happy now that I have this job."

Wesley's rise from struggling to make ends meet in Brazil to early success in England becomes even more remarkable when you consider that he has a condition he can do nothing about.

His right leg is almost three centimetres shorter than his left. "I don't know what I can say", he chuckles. "I have my legs like this you know and I don't have any pain or anything like that. I hope to continue like this."

Wesley's head coach at Aston Villa Dean Smith does his due diligence before signing any player. He goes to meet them and looks for one particular first impression. "Can they hold a conversation with me?" Smith says.

United star Pogba, who will miss Sunday's clash with Premier League leaders Liverpool with an ankle injury, has been recuperating in the Middle East during the break in the domestic schedule.

Pogba has been in Dubai during the international break, after being left out of the France squad due to injury.

Real Madrid boss Zidane was in the Middle East speaking at a conference relating to the integration of Artificial Intelligence in the sports industry.


Zidane has made no secret of his desire to take Pogba to the Santiago Bernabeu and pursued a summer switch - only to fail to convince Florentino Perez to spend big on the midfielder.

Multiple reports have confirmed that El Clasico is postponed to Wednesday 18 December due to the ongoing Catalan protest in Barcelona.


The match is scheduled to be played at Barcelona’s Camp Nou stadium on 26 October.

But due to the current Catalonia protest, La Liga asked that the game be reversed to Madrid’s Santiago Bernabeu.

That proposal has been rejected by both clubs and with such a fluid period of unrest in Catalonia, the possible option left is that the match is pushed back by two months.

Now that Spanish FA's Competition Committee has also rejected the idea of playing the game in Madrid, the game is bound to be postponed to Wednesday 18 December.

Nigeria forward Victor Osimhen has been named French Ligue 1 player of the month for September, reports Completesports.com.


Osimhen beat Algerian forward, Islam Slimani, who plays for AS Monaco and Nantes’ Nicolas Pallois to the award.

The 20-year-old scored two goals and recorded two assists in four league appearances for Lille in September.

Osimhen was on target in Lille 2-1 win against Angers SCO and the 2-0 victory at home to Strasbourg.

The former Wolfsburg of Germany striker who was also recently named Lille Player of the month for September has scored seven goals and in nine league appearances for Los Dogues this season.

Arsenal teen forward Bukayo Saka is one player who is proud of his Nigerian roots despite representing England at various youth level


The forward who has broken into the first team of Arsenal this season has been linked with a future call up to the senior national team of England following his rise this season at Arsenal.

Manchester City defender Oleksandr Zinchenko has confirmed his engagement to TV presenter Vlada Sedan, on Instagram.


The 22-year-old made the headlines for his antics after helping Ukraine secure a place at EURO 2020, gate crashing his teammates' interview with Sedan after the 2-1 win against Portugal to plant a kiss on the presenter.

Speculation started back in June when Zinchenko did the same during a post-match interview, but their relationship was never officially confirmed despite posing together on multiple Instagram pictures.


Zinchenko has now revealed his engagement to Sedan, on Instagram, posting a picture of himself on one knee at the Kiev Olympic Stadium.

His caption reads: "The most important YES in my life."

While their relationship remained a secret to most, Zinchenko revealed his Ukraine and Man City teammates knew the pair were an item.

He told Channel Football 1/2: "Some guys knew about it.

"It was also discussed by my Ukrainian teammates."
