Former Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany will become Anderlecht's player-manager following his departure from the Premier League champions, the defender has confirmed.

The 33-year-old, who began his professional career with the Belgian club in his home nation, returns to the First Division A side after an absence of 13 years, after he announced his exit from the Citizens.

"For the next three years, I will take up the role of Player-Manager of RSC Anderlecht," the defender wrote in an open letter to supporters. "Belgium’s finest.

"As a footballer, I was born and raised at RSC Anderlecht. Since the age of 6, I have been one with that club. A history of 34 league titles, they are second to none."

The centre-back went on to explain how the decision to return to the side where he made his debut came around, explaining a meeting that he held with chairman and owner Marc Coucke after the latter took over from the Vanden Stock family in December 2017.

"I stopped at their training grounds on my way to international duty last year," Kompany added. "Coucke, the chairman, and Sports Director Michael Verschueren asked my opinion regarding the difficult situation the club was in.

"I shared my thoughts and listened to their vision for the future: ambitious, courageous and determined to get back to [number one]. I offered my help, no strings attached, should they need it.

"Later on in the season, newly appointed Technical Director Frank Arnesen joined and we organized some technical sessions on how to build a strong playing identity based on attractive, attacking football.

"RSCA has a tradition of having fantastic youth. You could say they have the past and the future, but struggle with the present.

"Not so long ago, I took a call from RSC Anderlecht. Quite unexpectedly, they offered me the position of Player-Manager. Michael and Frank explained to me in detail how they saw it working in practice. They had thought it through.

"Mr. Coucke, the owner, pledged full support: time, budget, framework, staff, facilities... I was left not only impressed, but also intrigued by this sign of confidence in me. It got me thinking."

Kompany went on to reiterate his gratitude to City and manager Pep Guardiola, adding: "The end of this season couldn’t be more memorable. I have lived the dream here.

"I have learned so much the last 3 years. From an incredible manager. Pep Guardiola reignited my love for the game. I’ve witnessed, participated, analyzed, absorbed, studied. Man City play the football I want to play. It is the football I want to teach and to see played."

Cristiano Ronaldo wins Serie A Player of the Year, becomes the first player to pick up the equivalent award in England, Spain, and Italy.


Juventus striker, Cristiano Ronaldo has won the Serie A Player of the Year award in his first season in Italy.


According to Goal, Ronaldo will be recognised for the award before the game against Atalanta on Sunday.

Ronaldo scored 21 goals in 30 league matches, picking up eight assists for Juventus this season. The Portuguese also picked up six goals in the Champions League, and a goal in the Supercoppa Italiana.

He is also the first player to pick up the equivalent award in England, Spain, and Italy.

Ahead of the announcement, Ronaldo took to Twitter on Saturday to wish Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri, farewell.

Ronaldo wrote: 'Thank you Mister! We lived a single year together but it was awesome because besides being a great coach you are a great man. It's been a pleasure working with you!'

The head coach will be leaving the club before the start of next season in a decision Juventus president Andrea Agnelli said was 'the toughest decision he has ever had to make.'

Super Eagles star Simeon Tochukwu Nwankwo has reacted after signing a three years deal with Serie B side Crotone, which will now see him remain at the club until June 30, 2022.

The 27-year-old Nigeria international was set to become a free agent next month after running down his previous contract with the club but he has decided to remain at the Stadio Ezio Scida following a meeting with Sharks president Gianni Vrenna.

Nwankwo speaking to the club official website: "I am very happy to be able to continue my story with this shirt. In Crotone I grew up both as a man and as a footballer and I also became a dad. I thank the club for the trust it has always placed in me.

Crotone President, Gianni Vrenna has nothing but praise for the 2018 FIFA World Cup star who has scored consistently for the club in recent seasons saying: ''Simy is an exemplary professional, an excellent guy both on and off the field.

''He joined the Rossoblu family three years ago and won everyone with his generosity and his goals. We are very satisfied with the agreement reached ".

Nwankwo joined Crotone in the summer of 2016 from Portuguese side Portimonense, netting 24 goals across three seasons for the Crotone-based club.

There are strong indications that Nigeria’s provisional squad list for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations slated to begin on June 21 in Egypt have been submitted to the Nigeria Football Federation Tuesday for perusal and eventual release.

The summer transfer window for Premier League clubs will open on 16 May 2019.

Before then, clubs are able to agree deals for the acquisition of players but, in the case of a domestic transfer, the paperwork cannot be processed until 16 May, once the window opens.

The transfer of players from another national association may take place once the FIFA Transfer Matching System (TMS) opens on 11 June.

This means that any international transfers cannot be processed until the FIFA TMS transfer window opens.

David Luiz's Chelsea future has finally been resolved after he signed a new two-year deal through to 2021.

The Brazil defender's current Blues deal was due to expite at the end of the season, with the 32-year-old having been in protracted talks with the club over an extension.

But the popular centre-back, who has been a mainstay in Maurizio Sarri's side this season, will now remain at Stamford Bridge until June 2021.

Luiz has made 48 appearances in all competitions and scoring three goals, helping Chelsea secure a top-four finish in the Premier League and book a place in the Europa League final against Arsenal .

The wife of Ghanaian actor, Chris Attoh, has been shot dead. According to multiple reports, Bettie Jennifer was killed by an unknwon gunman while leaving her office in Maryland in the United States of America on Friday evening May 10th at about 5pm.

Accoridng to reports, Bettie had left the office in the 6300 block of Ivy Lane and was walking to her car when a man armed with a handgun approached her. When she tried to run away, the man followed her and fired at her multiple times, with at least one shot hitting her.


The gunman then fled in a vehicle and has since been declared wanted by the Maryland Police.



Police described the suspect as “a black male with a think build and black hair, wearing a dark shirt and pants.”


Chris Attoh and Bettie Jenifer married at a ceremony in Accra October 2018. This was shortly after divorcing his first wife, Nollywood actress, DamiloIa Adegbite, who he shares a son with.

Juventus coach, Maximiliano Allegri

Juventus manager, Maximiliano Allegri has reportedly agreed to leave the Italian club after winning five Serie A titles during his five years stay with the club.



According to multiple reports in Italy, including in La Stampa, an agreement was reached between Allegri and Juventus president, Andrea Agnelli on Wednesday night to part ways.

But the report didn’t reveal details of the agreement between the pair to part ways.

Allegri's departure will likely see him join Paris Saint-Germain, who are reportedly set to sack current coach Thomas Tuchel.

Tuchel , who joined the Ligue 1 champions last summer has fallen out with both president Nasser Al-Khelaifi and sporting director Antero Henrique.

Mohamed Salah has been ruled out of Liverpool’s Champions League semi-final, second-leg tie with FC Barcelona on Tuesday, Jürgen Klopp has confirmed.

The Egyptian was forced from the pitch with a head injury during Saturday evening’s 3-2 victory at Newcastle United and will not be available for the meeting with the La Liga champions.

The Reds are also without the services of Roberto Firmino, who is continuing to recover from a muscle injury.
“Both are not available for tomorrow," Klopp told his pre-match press conference at Anfield on Monday.

“It’s a concussion [for Salah], so that means he would not even be allowed to play. That’s it, that’s all.

“He feels OK, but it is not good enough from a medical point of view, that’s all. He is desperate and everything, but we cannot do it. That’s it.”

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said Manchester United got what they deserved after they were consigned to the Europa League.

United's dismal draw at bottom club Huddersfield saw Solskjaer's side miss out on a top-four place and the Champions League next season.

Solskjaer admitted there is likely to be an exodus of players following United's failure to make the Champions League, which will cost the club in the region of £40million in terms of lost revenue.

It is the third time in six years United have failed to make the Champions League in the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era, with Solskjaer admitting they have no-one to blame but themselves.

“We gave ourselves a chance to be in the Champions League, had so many opportunities to be third or fourth, but weren't able to do it,” said Solskjaer.

“Maybe it's the right place to be for us, the Europa League next year.

“If City don't win FA Cup we'll have an early and bright start for EL qualifiers and that'll make it more diff.

“We've been inconsistent throughout this season, good periods and very bad periods, and it's just caught up with us. It's a fair reflection, being sixth.

“It's been a tired team towards the end of the season. When you get bad results you lose energy and start worrying and that's caught up with us.

“It's not what we want, but then again you can use the Europa League as something positive, as Chelsea and Arsenal have done and as we did a couple of years ago.”

Alexis Sanchez went off injured in the second-half and Solskjaer was asked if that was the £500,000-a-week forward's last appearance in a United shirt.


“I can't talk about individuals now, but there's a chance you've seen the last of players, always a chance, but wouldn't say that about any individual,” said Solskjaer.

“Today wasn't one individual that was disappointing, it was the whole team.”

Scott McTominay put United ahead after eight minutes, but a mistake by Luke Shaw allowed Isaac Mbenza to equalise, with Solskjaer's side unable to find a winner.

Former United defender Gary Neville was scathing in his assessment of his old club and said: “This is Huddersfield Town who have struggled all season.

“Watching this Huddersfield team, they haven’t got the quality, but I like watching them a lot more than watching the ones in the red shirts, to be honest with you.


“At least you can identify with them. Nothing about this United team I like at all. They’re just awful.

“They’re a despondent group of people. Solskjaer is smiling at them they’re that bad.

“United’s away support will never stop singing, but this group of players have drained the energy out of them.”

Solskjaer added: "We haven't taken enough points, won enough games, scored enough goals and it's always difficult when you lose your manager halfway through the season.

"It shows us where we are. we're not living in fantasy land thinking we can catch the top two, we're far away, but we shouldn't be speaking about being far off the top four at Manchester United .

"We're many levels [behind] at the moment, that's the size of the challenge, it's a great challenge for us but I'm sure we'll make it."

Eden Hazard and co took to the pitch at Stamford Bridge in the new 2019-20 strip for their final home Premier League match of the present campaign.

The new Nike design has been criticised by some supporters for the garish pattern but for the Chelsea supporters in attendance, there will be hope that it isn't the only time they see Hazard wearing it.

Nigeria international Joel Obi escaped his Turkish side Aytemiz Alanyaspor’s clash against Kayserispor.
It was learnt that some of his teammates were involved in a ghastly accident while returning from the match last weekend.

The Super Eagles midfielder, who joined Turkish Super Lig side on loan till the end of the season from Italian Serie A side Chievo Verona in February, was not listed for the encounter due to a knock.

According to the club, the fatal minibus crash which tragically killed Czech international footballer Josef Sural, also left another player Steven Caulker ‘badly shaken up’.

Seven Alanyaspor players were making their way back from the game which eneded 1-1 draw in a private bus on Sunday when it veered off the road around five kilometres (3.1 miles) from the coastal town of Alanya.

Sural, 28, was rushed to hospital following the crash but died from his injuries. The striker, won 20 caps for the Czech Republic national team and was part of their squad at Euro 2016.

The six other players traveling on the bus included former Tottenham, Liverpool and QPR defender Caulker and ex-Newcastle striker Papiss Cisse.

They were also taken to hospital but escaped serious injury along with their other teammates on board – Djalma Campos, Baiano, Welinton and Isaac Sackey.

Caulker was treated at the Alanya Private Anatolian Hospital, and the player’s representatives told The Mirror he is ‘safe, but badly shaken up’.

The rest of the Alanyaspor squad and staff had returned on the official team coach or made their way home on their own.

AS Roma offered the Portuguese coach a three-year contract to come to Stadio Olimpico.

The 55-year-old Setúbal-born was sacked as Manchester United manager after disappointing circumstances and inconsistent start to the campaign in the Premier League, a change was made with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer replacing him towards the end of last year.

According to French newspaper L’Equipe, Roma have put a three-year deal on the table for Mourinho to become their permanent boss but former Chelsea and Real Madrid boss he would only accept if they qualified for the Champions League.

The Champions League-winning coach has been linked with a move to Inter Milan and Paris Saint-Germain, but they seem inclined to back Thomas Tuchel, even with recent poor results.

The Italian giants sacked Eusebio Di Francesco earlier this season, while Claudio Ranieri is currently in charge on an interim basis until the end of the campaign.

Liverpool defender, Andy Robertson, has issued warning to Barcelona captain, Lionel Messi ahead of Wednesday’s Champions League clash.

Liverpool will tackle the newly crowned La Liga champions in the Champions League semi-final first leg fixture on Wednesday night at Camp Nou.

But Robertson has now warned Messi that he has prepared to mark him out in front of Barcelona fans.

Speaking on Messi, Robertson told UEFA’s official website: “I don’t think you have to prepare any differently from any other game. Of course, you’re playing against a better player than you usually would… he’s the best player in the world.

“But I think we all need to be prepared because he drifts all over the pitch.

“You watch him, and sometimes he’s back in the centre-half spot, picking up the ball from deep and things like that, so he’ll start on the right but I’m prepared for him not to stay out there. But I know he’ll be running at us at times, and it’s all about how we defend it.”

He added, “We need to defend in packs, but the problem is that it’s not just him.

“If you keep him quiet, then you’ve got Coutinho, who we all know well, you’ve got Suarez and people like that who can cause you problems, so it’s not about keeping one man quiet, it’s about keeping the whole team quiet, and that’ll be the hardest thing for us.”

Raheem Sterling’s stunning season for Manchester City has earned him the PFA Young Player of the Year award.

Pep Guardiola’s treble-chasing side remain on course for a memorable league title this season, having tussled with Liverpool for the crown all campaign.

Nigeria lost to Angola in the U17 AFCON tournament third place on Saturday.

Capemba gave Angola the lead after 28 minutes but the leveler came ten minutes after.

Luvumbo struck the winning goal in the 49 minutes. But were reduced to ten men later after Abrantes was sent off in the 58th minutes.

Neymar has been handed a three-match Champions League ban for a foul-mouthed Instagram post made following Paris Saint-Germain's loss to Manchester United in which he insulted the match officials after his side's controversial defeat.
The ref awarded United a stoppage-time penalty at the Parc de Princes after a VAR review determined a Diogo Dalot shot hit the arm of Presnel Kimpembe. Marcus Rashford scored on the ensuing spot-kick, to level the tie at 3-3 and send United through on away goals.

The result saw PSG squander a 2-0 advantage gained in the first leg at Old Trafford.

Neymar, who missed the entire tie due to a broken foot.

The Brazilian dropped message on Instagram in which he blasted the match officials for their interpretation of a handball.

"That is a disgrace!" Neymar wrote on his Instagram Stories.

"And UEFA still pick four guys who know nothing about football to review the VAR decision in slow motion... that handball simply doesn't exist!

"How do you handball behind your back? Ahh.. go f*ck yourselves."

After the post, UEFA announced it would investigate the incident and the Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body have now settled on a three-game ban for the PSG star after concluding he violated Article 15 (1) (d) of the UEFA Disciplinary Regulations for insulting/molesting acts against a match official.

The suspension means that Neymar is set to miss half of next year's Champions League group stage.
