The senator representing Zamfara Central, Kabir Marafa, has commended the Independent National Electoral Commission for maintaining its earlier position on the rejection of All Progressives Congress’ candidates from Zamfara State. Marafa, who is the Chairman, Senate Committee on Petroleum Resources (Downstream), also urged President Muhammadu Buhari to suspend his proposed campaign scheduled to hold in Gusau, the state capital, on Sunday. The senator, who addressed journalists in Abuja on Thursday, said he would submit a letter to the President urging him to stay away from the presidential campaign already slated for Sunday. He said, “I urge President Muhammadu Buhari to suspend his proposed campaign to Zamfara State on Sunday. I will personally hand over a letter on the matter to him. “However, if the President insists on going for the rally in Zamfara on Sunday, there is no problem. Let (Governor Abdulaziz) Yari hold his rally on Sunday, we will organise our own later and people will see who the people are supporting. “We don’t care if the President attends our own rally later or not. We will organise a mega rally that will be given live coverage so that the whole world will see that we are very popular among our people.” Marafa, who is also a governorship aspirant of the APC in the state, said INEC had done the right thing by maintaining its position on the issue of APC primaries in Zamfafa State. He said, “This shows that the commission is not doing the bidding of any of the parties involved in our intra-party squabble. From the beginning, the commission took a weighty but truthful position on the Zamfara APC primaries logjam, despite the fact that our party is the ruling political party. “The development has shown that the commission will conduct credible, fair and transparent polls. We are urging the commission to always stand by the truth, no matter who is involved.” Marafa also expressed the hope that APC can still field candidates in the state if his prayers before the Appeal Court in Sokoto are granted. “We are very optimistic that a fresh window to conduct primaries opposed by the Governor Abdulaziz Yari’s faction will by God’s grace be granted by the Appeal Court,” he added. A Zamfara State High Court presided over by Justice Muhammad Shinkafi had last week Friday in Gusau, delivered a judgement which asked INEC to allow APC candidates to participate in the election. Same day, a Federal High Court presided over by Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu in Abuja held that the electoral body acted within its powers to reject the list of candidates presented to it by the party. However, INEC, according to a statement by its National Commissioner in charge of Information and Voter Education, Mr Festus Okoye, on Wednesday, decided to maintain its earlier position on the matter. https://thebiggestgists..com/2019/02/marafa-asks-buhari-to-shelve-zamfara.html cc mynd44 lalasticala

A former member of the House of Representatives representing Eket Federal Constituency, Mr Dan Abia, on Wednesday defected from the All Progressives Congress to the Peoples Democratic Party. Abia is a brother to an APC governorship aspirant and former Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission, Bassey Abia. He defected alongside another APC chief, Emem Edoho, at a PDP rally in Esit-Eket Local Government Area of the state. Abia, who said he joined the APC in error, asked his people to forgive him. He said he decided to return to the PDP having realised that the APC had nothing to offer Akwa Ibom people in particular and Nigerians in general. He said, “PDP is a religion not only in Akwa Ibom, but here in Esit-Eket and we are back to the fold. “I am happy to work for the victory of the PDP. APC is an atomistic society perpetually at war with itself. Example abounds in Rivers State. “We are sorry we made a mistake, we faltered and we have returned home. We will work for the success of our party. “In view of the fact that the APC is only pretending and is really not visible in most parts of the country, I believe I am not too big to say I am sorry. I made a mistake, I am coming back home to work for the overall success of our great party, the PDP in all the elections.” The state governor, Udom Emmanuel, promised the people that his administration would do more if re-elected. Emmanuel announced his intention to construct the Stadium Road, adding that preparations were at an advanced stage for the reactivation of the Akwa Palms Limited. https://thebiggestgists..com/2019/02/ex-lawmaker-returns-to-pdp-in-akwa-ibom.html cc mynd44

The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress in Lagos State, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has promised to compensate owners of buildings that were demolished for road construction in Ikorodu. Sanwo-Olu stated this at the resumption of the party’s mega rally in Ikorodu. He said when elected, his administration would ensure that owners of buildings demolished for expansion of Ishawo Road wre compensated. “Also, the Sulaimon Farouq Road will be constructed and linked with Ketu. This is basically to reduce travel time within the axis,” he said. He promised that his administration would construct a stadium in the area to discover new talents for the country. The state deputy governor, Dr Idiat Adebule, said the APC candidates at all levels were credible and reliable. Adebule assured the people of the state that Sanwo-Olu and the other candidates would sustain the development agenda of the state, including road construction. Sanwo-Olu’s running mate, Dr Obafemi Hamzat, had earlier urged the people to vote for only the APC in the forthcoming general elections. source: https://punchng.com/sanwo-olu-promises-to-compensate-owners-of-demolished-buildings/amp/

Holders Paris Saint-Germain advanced to the last 16 of the French Cup with a 2-0 win over Strasbourg on Wednesday, but their evening was marred by the sight of Neymar going off injured. Edinson Cavani and Angel di Maria got the goals on a bitterly cold night at the Parc des Princes, while in between Neymar limped off having hurt his right foot. The Brazilian covered his eyes as he went off to be replaced by Moussa Diaby just after the hour mark, a worrying sign for the PSG camp with the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie against Manchester United less than three weeks away. “He is at the hospital and I must wait for the doctor to give me news,” said PSG coach Thomas Tuchel after the game. The world’s most expensive player broke a bone in the same foot in February last year and missed the final three months of last season as a result. Tuchel added: “The doctor is worried, ‘Ney’ is worried, because it is the same foot, the same place.” “It was a situation where he was fouled three times, one after the other. The referee didn’t give anything. He twisted his foot.” The PSG coach was also unhappy with suggestions from the Strasbourg players and coach that Neymar had provoked the injury by winding up his opponents. “It’s Neymar’s style, but don’t come and complain when you get kicked,” Strasbourg’s Anthony Goncalves told broadcaster Eurosport. “He is a great player, I respect him. He can enjoy himself but don’t come blubbering afterwards.” Tuchel had left out the ill Kylian Mbappe for this game, with Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting handed a rare start in place of the superstar France forward. The Cameroon international set up Cavani for the fourth-minute opener, before Di Maria — who had earlier hit the post — finished into the roof of the net 10 minutes from time as PSG stay on track to win the French Cup for the fifth season running. Before kick-off, fans applauded and chanted the name of Emiliano Sala, the former Nantes striker who is feared dead after the plane he was travelling in disappeared over the Channel Islands on Monday as he was on his way to join his new club Cardiff City. – ‘Deeply affected’ – Nantes’ own Cup tie away at third-tier Entente Sannois Saint-Gratien has been postponed until Sunday, with their players still in shock over Sala’s disappearance. Elsewhere, Caen ended the run of plucky sixth-tier amateurs Viry-Chatillon in a 6-0 rout, with Yacine Bammou setting the Ligue 1 club on their way. An emotional Bammou raised his hands towards the sky after his early goal, in tribute to Sala, with whom he played at Nantes last season. Caen coach Fabien Mercadal said Bammou had made clear his desire to be involved despite the tragic turn of events. “We talked about it. What happened is not fair. He was a friend to Yacine, he was deeply affected. The worst thing for him would have been to not play,” said Mercadal. A group of Caen supporters, for whom Sala spent the second half of the 2014-15 season on loan, also fastened a banner that read “Emiliano” to a fence surrounding the pitch. Naim Sliti scored a hat-trick as relegation-threatened Dijon claimed a stunning 6-3 win away at Saint-Etienne for their first victory under new coach Antoine Kombouare, while Rennes overcame fourth-division Saint-Pryve 2-0. Lyon go to Amiens on Thursday, while Thierry Henry’s Monaco were knocked out on Tuesday when they slumped to a 3-1 home defeat against Metz of Ligue 2. source:https://thebiggestgists..com/2019/01/psg-lose-injured-neymar-in-french-cup.html cc honeric01

Bobrisky and Liz Anjorin have mercilessly dragged a man who went on Liz's page to insult Bobrisky. Liz shared a photo of Bobrisky at her turbaning and thanked him for coming to show his support. She also said Bobrisky was misunderstood by most and informed her followers that he's just a nice person who came up with an ingenious way to escape poverty. A male follower of Liz commented on the post and dragged Bobrisky. Unluckily for him, both of them had time and they went to his Instagram account, found his photos and used them to drag him on their respective Instagram accounts. The lawmaker representing Kaduna Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Shehu Sani, has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to apply caution in dealing with former President Olusegun Obasanjo. Sani who gave the warning via his twitter handle, @ShehuSani, on Tuesday advised Buhari against probing Obasanjo because many of the current presidential aides were part of the former President’s government. In the tweets laced with figurative expressions, Sani said, “If you decide to open and probe the kitchen and the food store left by Obj (Obasanjo) because of his bitter leaf letters, you will see the names of many people on your dining table today. “The table manners and the cutlery they used for his (Obasanjo’s) spaghetti is the same they are using for your noodles. “Nigerian leaders adopt habitual and perpetual friends of the throne and assume they are loyal friends of the king.” In another tweets on Tuesday, the senator drew Buhari’s attention to the politics of Kaduna State, especially the perceived marginalisation of Christians. He said, “Prez (President Buhari) is courageous to reveal those who stood for him in his trying moments in the past. The truth is that the Muslim masses also stood for him in the past. “Another truth is that the Christians who supported him are currently being marginalised in my state (Kaduna) using his name.” source:https://thebiggestgists..com/2019/01/handle-obasanjo-with-caution-sani-warns.html cc lalasticala

A security guard, Azeez Ibrahim, who was accused of killing a female undergraduate of the Babcock University, Ilishan Remo, Ogun State, Adebusayo Ogunkoya, with a pump action gun, has denied murdering her but admits that the bullet that killed the victim came from his gun. It was reported that Ogunkoya was shot dead at a birthday party in a hotel in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State on July 5, 2014. The 22-year-old Ogunkoya was celebrating with her friends at the Mambillah Hotel when she was allegedly shot by the guard, who was reportedly drunk. It was gathered that the bullet lodged in the neck region of the victim and when she was rushed to a private hospital in the area, she was pronounced dead on arrival. A source said that Ogunkoya did not know the host but was invited to the party by her boyfriend. The source had said, “The party was going on fine until the security man, who was holding a gun, which he claimed he had seized from some robbers, mishandled the gun and fired a shot, which hit Busayo. The guard was said to be drunk.” Ibrahim is facing one count of murder contrary to and punishable under Section 222 (2) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011. At Tuesday’s proceedings, Ibrahim, who told Justice Sedotan Ogunsanya of the Lagos State High Court in Igbosere that he was the only one that went upstairs with a pump action gun, said he did not know how the bullet left the gun and killed the deceased, adding that the men who came with the victim struggled to take the gun away from him. Ibrahim, while being led in evidence by his lawyer, Olarenwaju Adebayo, told the court that he was a member of the Odua People’s Congress. He said, “I am not trained in handling pump action gun by the OPC; I was trained as a security man, but I don’t have a certificate to that effect. “The boys, who came to the hotel on the day of the incident, were members of the Eiye Confraternity. I had only worked at the hotel for six months when the incident happened, but I know that the men were cultists from their behaviour. “I didn’t fire the shot that day; it is only God that knows how the bullet left my gun and killed the deceased.” Ibrahim, during cross-examination by the prosecutor, Adebayo Haroun, maintained that the men were members of the Eiye Confraternity because they had been arrested before. Earlier, the father of the deceased, Adewale Ogunkoya, said he was informed of his daughter’s death by the police. He said, “I am the father of Miss Ogunkoya Adebusayo, who was shot dead on July 5, 2014, at one hotel in Ikorodu by one security man as reported to me by my son and the police in Ikorodu. Busayo was a 200-level student of Political Science at the Babcock University, Ilishan Remo, and also a student of a fashion school in Agidingbi Ikeja. “I was informed by a police officer, who called me on the phone, and I directed my son, Adebola, to go to the police station to verify what had happened. “I did not expect my daughter to be at the Mambillah Hotel at that particular time that she was said to have been hit by the gunshot that caused her death. “As for this issue, going to court will not bring my daughter back and as a Christian, I leave everything to God to judge.” The brother of the deceased, Adebola, also told the court that he was called by a friend that he should go to the Owutu Police Station to find out what had happened to his sister. He added that he wrote an application for the waiver of an autopsy, withdrawal of the case and the release of the corpse, and also sworn to an affidavit dated July 16, 2014, on the instruction of his father. Justice Ogunsanya adjourned the matter till February 6, 2019, for the continuation of trial. source:https://thebiggestgists..com/2019/01/bullet-from-my-gun-killed-babcock.html cc lalasticala mynd44 dominique

A 23-year-old suspect, Opeyemi Adeleke, who allegedly stole a woman’s pants, was on Tuesday arraigned before an Osogbo Chief Magistrates’ Court. The suspect, who was sober in court, admitted to stealing the pants but claimed that he returned them after about five minutes, because his conscience did not allow him to rest. Adeleke, it was learnt, went to the house of one Gift Sunday located in the Agowande area of Osogbo around 1am and stole her pants, which were left to dry on the line outside. The two counts of stealing preferred against the suspect read in part, “That you, Opeyemi Adeleke, on Monday, January 21, 2019, around 1am in the Agowande area of Osogbo seized the pants of one Gift Sunday without her consent and for reasons best known to you.” The prosecutor, Inspector Muslim Jafani, said the accused took the pants away, thereby committing an offence contrary to and punishable under sections 249 (D) and 390 (9) of the Criminal Code Cap 34. Vol. II, Laws of Osun State of Nigeria, 2003. When allowed to talk, the suspect admitted to stealing the pants but added that he returned them after five minutes. “I actually stole the pants, but within five minutes, I returned them. Please pardon me,” Adeleke said. After pleading guilty to the charges, the defence counsel, Mrs Susan Ajeigbe, pleaded for Adeleke’s bail and promised to always present him for trial. The presiding magistrate, Modupe Awodele, in her ruling, ordered that the accused be remanded in the Ilesha Prison and adjourned the case till February 2, 2019, for ruling on the bail application. source:https://thebiggestgists..com/2019/01/i-returned-pants-i-stole-after-five.html cc mynd44 lalasticala dominique

Governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in Lagos State, Mr Jimi Agbaje, has promised to implement the ‘IBILE’ formula in the allocation of portfolios if elected in the March 2 election to lead the state. The acronym, IBILE, stands for the five major indigenous areas of Lagos namely Ikorodu, Badagry, Ikeja, Lagos Island and Epe. Agbaje, who said this on Tuesday in Ikorodu during a town hall meeting, added that the dream of ensuring the emergence of Lagos as a mega city could not be realised without the full co-operation of the indigenes. In a statement from the spokesperson of Jimi Agbaje Campaign Organisation, Modupe Ogunbayo, the PDP candidate noted that the allocation formula must be reflected fairly in the composition of appointments and allocations from the state government. He, therefore, assured inhabitants of Ikorodu that the ‘IBILE’ philosophy would be revived and duly followed under his administration. He said, “The IBILE philosophy would be revived and duly followed under an Agbaje administration. It is an acronym which stands for the five major indigenous areas of Lagos which must be reflected fairly in the composition of appointments and allocations from the state government.” The PDP governorship candidate promised to follow in the footsteps of Second Republic Governor of Lagos State, Alhaji Lateef Jakande, whom he praised for making landmark innovations in the educational system and in the provision of infrastructure like potable water and roads. source:https://thebiggestgists..com/2019/01/agbaje-promises-to-implement-ibile.html cc lalasticala
