Write unemployed please if she was a trader wrote retired is she has Pensions and other benefits coming into her accounts. If she does please just write unemployed. My mum got denied the first time for this same reason. Read earlier messages.

1) my mum was self employed but because of health conditions. She stopped working years ago and now depend on her children for her monthly up keep. I often send money to her monthly as well.

So should I write retired or unemployed?
If I write that she is unemployed, will it affect the outcome of her application?


Also, she owns a shop but it’s not CAC registered, so should I include pictures of the shop in her application as home ties.

Send an email to complaints@homeoffice.gov.uk addressing all reasons for rejection interms of why you don’t think HO has enough reasons to deny or some documents were not considered.

If you are doing any of ththe above on behalf of someone you’ll need a letter of authorization from that person.

Submitted a complaint letter last month on behalf of my mum explained all the details and decision has been overturned. She has been asked to submit her passport. Thank you for your advice.

Marriage is a substantial tie. You need to also be submitting more than a consent letter. Prove that the marriage is genuine and subsisting and for this cause she must return to her marriage.

Yes I submitted her bank statement this is where it can be seen that I send money to her weekly but I don’t think they have looked at it at all.

Thinking of sending a PAP. Is it better to do it via gov.uk or via email?

Yes I do not plan to apply till December tbh.
Also think they have not just considered the fact that I was sponsoring her fully when they said she doesn’t have money for the visit. I also think they haven’t considered the fact that I send her money at all I mean I can send her monthly allowance going forward but I think there’s something off about their reason.

My account is clean I’ve only got on source of income and it’s very consistent.

First of all, I think you should take a break from applying for your mom. Wait till December or early next year before putting in another application.

A major issue I see is the variation in the weekly allowance you send to her. My advice is to send her money once a month. Let it be the same amount, and let it be on the same date. Tell her to keep her expenses around the same amount for each month.

As sponsor, your own account should also be clean. Same credits and debits each month.

I don’t think the problem in this case was home ties, so you can attach the same land documents, consent letter, and letter from the mosque on her subsequent application.

I think I need help at this point. I applied for my mum’s visa back in March but it was refused because I said she was retired but in the actual sense she wasn’t retired she was just unemployed and that was an honest mistake. Then I corrected this in another application I made earlier this month as I thought it was an easy fix. I explained in the application and cover letter that it was a case of misprofiling.

The new application has been rejected and the reasons don’t make sense to me.
Firstly it states that there’s is not regular income coming to her account that’s false because I attached her bank statement that shows the weekly allowance I give to her. It ranges between 50k to 100k every week and that’s the only income that goes into her account. It’s also talking about her not having money in her account for the visit when we have clearly said I will be sponsoring the whole of her trip in the application form and invitation letter.

The second reason of ties, we attached her land documents and also got reference letter from our mosque stating she a volunteer ass well as consent letter form my dad.

I don’t know if this decision can be appealed but I don’t think this is fair at all.

Thank you but in all honesty There’s no deflection I was only stating the situation as it is. It is a case of mislabeling a situation at best case which is what I have taken from what you said. Should probably have said unemployed. I do send her up to 5m yearly as claimed in form of 100k weekly. Which I mentioned in the cover letter was income from me. No other credits are in her account

I am planning to reapply but I don’t know if I should reapply immediately or wait till May then select unemployed. Also should I be addressing the reason for refusal in the cover letter by calling it out and explaining it?

In this case, your mom could at best be said to be unemployed, not a retiree. As has been clearly stated in the refusal letter— being termed as a "retired" individual comes with certain expectations.
1. A retiree should be receiving retirement payments or at least be able to provide proof of their past employment, along with relevant documentation showing when and why they ceased working, such as official retirement letters or evidence of retirement plans.
2. Your claims don’t align with the status of a retiree—- they are expected to have a set retirement income and proof of their past job.

I am confused how someone who has been advised by their children to stop trading as a market trader could somehow be equated to a retiree. Is this possible? The claim that she has an annual income of 5 million from her retirement made it even more confusing for them.
The entire situation was unnecessarily complicated by you. The statements you mentioned appear to be more of a diversion or a way to deflect from the actual facts to get the visa. Apologies if not.
In summary, I am not sure anyone can argue here on this platform that the ECOs are at fault.

Like I mentioned. My mum was a trader selling stuff in the market. There was no pension. We only asked her to stop working as she started to age.

There are certain things you can't explain. This is a very simple mistake on your part. The visa was almost issued.

All that was needed was evidence of retirement. Isn't her job a pensionable one? No letter shows retirement from the place she worked?

Firstly no way 5,000,000 is £9k.

Secondly , My mum was a trader and this is genuine. There's no pension or credit to her account i explained this in the cover letter. Mentioned she was a retired self employed woman and all.

Lastly the 5m is genuine as i send her roughly 100k every week because of situation of things in the country. This can be seen in the bank statement

The first application got refused on the 9th of December. Made the necessary correction with the help of the wonderful people here and reapplied.

My mum is absolutely buzzing. Hahaha

I guess i'll just ask my mum to go to their office on Monday then as i'm yet to get any email or text message from them.

How how will someone gain entry into their site without the email.

As for accommodation, ensure to include your utility bill alongside her application, as well as your BRP or ILR, whichever is applicable.

Yes please, do ensure you add everything including chats from WhatsApp or sms text messages. If you call your adopted mum on video call, attach screenshot of it.

It was not done legally. It was just a case of my biological mother struggling financially at that point and my adopted mother took me in at that age and saw me through school till university so there was no legal documentations or any sort tbh. Not sure if going ahead with the application without that document ise wasting my time and money on it. I’ve got every other thing in order asides that.

Most of the adoptions carried out within Nigeria are not done legally.

If your adoption was done legally, you can request copies of the adoption documents from the organization (agency) that approved the adoption. This might cost you few nairas.

Thanks for your answers. I will do all these in tha next application. I will include bank statements as far as 2019 and chats history . I included my pay slip and all in the last application.

Unfortunately the only thing I’m unable to get is the legal documentation to back the adoption as this was in 1998. But I have some old pictures of us too. I’m not sure what other document I can addd to prove the relationship.

It’s very simple. All you could have done was to include your bank statement and highlighting the parts where you sent money to your mom.

If the transfer was done via world remit or western Union, you could’ve included those transaction receipts as part of supporting documents.

Also, you could’ve included your own pay-slips to show how you get your funds and as well support yourself in the UK for you to be able to Stand as her sponsor.

Lastly, you could’ve have included correspondences like WhatsApp messages, text messages or even screenshots of video calls to show your communication with your mom as that is what they meant by proof of relationship.

As an adopted son, in place of birth certificate there could’ve been like a legal document showing she has taken you in as an adopted child.

pls show proof of adoption as well.. ECO strongly stated this lack of relationship proof as one of reasons for denial. If adopted certainly there will be documentation to show. Eco no proof of connection, contact etc.. work on these. Also if she is not working, prove how and why she must come back to Nigeria.. u didn’t do that.. what is tieing her to Nigeria? It’s not about monthly credits by you.. home ties are essential

The application is for my mum and I am her sponsor. She’s 55 hence she has stopped working.
The 200k that they are talking about was money someone sent to her to give another person and the debit was made the next day.. the remaining high amounts in her account her money sent to her from me for her upkeep.
Maybe I have to explain in a separate letter each transaction above 50k.
I explained In the application that her yearly income is generated via upkeep given to her by her children. And I have used the 6 month bank statement to arrive at the annual income of 2m
I also attached old and new pictures of us.

Also do I need to transfer money to her cos I didn’t do this as I used my Uk Bank balance for her sponsorship.

you said you are unemployed, that has already undermine your application if you are still within the working age range. If you ain't employed, it's either you are self-employed or receiving income from Family. Abi what generates you 2M yearly? There should also be receipt or document to justify the sources with explanation. And if someone is sponsoring you, you should also demonstrate your closeness, with recent chats and conversations, old and recent pictures.

Would it be helpful if I transfer like 1.2m to her as part of her travel expenses??

For her finance we stated she was employed and gets money from children and we used her 6 month statement to arrive at the annual statement and explained in the application

i got the same mail from same email address on 29th July and there is no update from TLS/UKVI till now. i did my biometric on 15th July at LAGOS_VI
i am tired of writing emails to UKVI and TLS, every time they say "your application is concluded and VAC will contact you very soon"
