Very useful piece. May God save us from this scourge too!!! |
manny4life:In the same light, MTN is Nigeria's investment 'poster child'. The government uses it as an example of how businesses in Nigeria can be successful, thereby potraying Nigeria's viability for investment. But to turnaround and fine them that proportion is clearly going to send wrong signals internationally. Yes they should pay but not to the extent of crippling them. I doubt their annual turnover in Nigeria is up to the fine. Remember jobs and businesses will be affected too. Those saying government needs budget money, do you remember tax money to is a big part of the expected revenue. If you bury one cow alive how you wan take chop the meat? |
Na wa for this pipo. Using financial crime commission to commit financial crime. The irony! |
How will this massive fine now be paid? NCC should just swallow their pride and be considerate. There are alternative streams of income they can look at. |
All these is because our government has no centralised database. Why can't NCC do the registration sef shey they are the ones rejecting the data sent to them. They got some money to carry out the exercise some years ago, what ever happened to that. |
Orisirisi! How is this even news? Poor baby is just involved in drama so early in life. |
I wonder how his conversation with Erubebe went after he saw the drama. I'm sure at that point the prophets of doom were like "yes, we got this right" |
I use mtn and can confirm that this is untrue, non of my friends using it have complained either. You need to check your line. |
This can't be real. What sort of a nonsense is this I just read. Abeg gimme my 1min back. |
frankie7:Na lie. Remember they just renewed their license, if they planned to leave I'm sure they won't have done that. all concerned parties should all just settle this amicably |
CHANGE = 50kobo |
stevealibi:Best comment! |
But people, this ncc is different o. It's the copyright commission and not related to the communications comissiin (the outrageous fine). I think I already read somewhere that this Baba2010 case was already settled sef. Make I wear my 3D glasses dey watch. |
@OP Alakoba. Why such a misquoted headline. |
*scratching head* I blame myself, I don't know what I was expecting sef. These people work for him so it's kind of a given. |
Hmmm, considering Nigeria is trying to look good for foreign investment what kind of message does this send though. Economically, even mtn till date has contributed in trillions to Nigeria's economy through tax and investment what impact will this fines now have. Big picture. |
@mtnng. More hands on deck!
|
shockwave91:Same here. Lwkmd |
charlezok:While it might be easy to sit in a chair and write whatever we think in our minds. I believe it is better to apply some logic before we begin to rant. Some months back MTN categorically stated (https://www.nairaland.com/2327970/mtn-nigeria-statement-alleged-plan#33951822) they have no plans to lay off staff as you have claimed and the call centers have always been outsourced but it's the outsourcing company that is changing . I want to assume that it is this change in outsourcing outfit that makes you think they will sack people but I disagree. Like you, I had thought how can they do this to thousands of Nigerians but I realised, they CANNOT afford to lose that many staff as the new outsourced company definitely has a huge task of serving customers and can't do that by laying off the current ones. I'm sure standards/kpis are set to ensure their is no glitch ( in fact left to me, the call reps were never enough to serve Nigerians) so why would they sack just to replace them with OND holders. Abeg jaiye ori e jare |
Aikon:Chai! Back in the days. Now where is the same NITEL |
tollytexy:Lol! |
Have they communicated these terms of operations or you're just speculating? Hear say is not good enough, and so far that's all that's been filtering around. Share facts On your not being able to forward or copy the mails. Are they not meant for internal consumption? Abi u wan start your own wiki leaks ni? |
chuxyn:That must have been a lot of dough. But bros how you take know that one na? You dey work for MTN? |
Interesting. This is indeed one to watch |
It is funny how one story can be reported in different ways and mislead readers. Clearly the man was talking about the impact but one journalist has reported it as a threat. Stories in other newspapers say differently: http://leadership.ng/news/427261/as-protests-hit-abuja-benin-offices-mtn-condemns-xenophobia http://allafrica.com/stories/201504210147.html |
The part I don't understand is why Nigerians think reprisal against the SA businesses will have any effect. Are these companies not employers of Nigerians? 98% or even more. The CEO of MTN Nigeria is Nigerian yet you break your SIM to send a message to who exactly? We really should just stop doing or saying things for the sake of it. |
