Good pm guys,
Pls I just realized that the duration for my Master's program is for three years. The program starts 23rd of August 2021 and ends 23August 2024.

During this period I am expected to take between 33-36credits.

Does this feel normal?

I feel really bad when I see folks censoring school names;it is very painful. This was not the culture when this thread started in the beginning, back then, the information was just too comprehensive. Thanks to this thread, some of us,prior to joining Nairaland didn't know:
That some higher institutions in the US are Red Flags.

Some schools exempt us from paying application fees(app fee waivers)

Some or if not all schools can process your applications with or without the official documents.

You don't always have to pay any down payment before you can receive your I-20

...

I know applicants who have lost a lot of money to heartless agents and I know some others who didn't fall victim to these agents all thanks to uncensored information on this thread.

While I totally agree that some of us are lazy but how many of us? The numbers are nothing compared to those of us who would take our time to process and sort all the necessary documents before applying to these schools. Even the "goons" of this thread were at a point novice and what you claim to know today was virtue of those uncensored information on this thread.

Let me ask? "What do stand to gain and vice versa if you censor the name of your school? Absolutely nothing and this because aside you,1001 applicants somewhere are already applying to these schools. However,it is your choice to make and we can't force you to do otherwise. But remember, you shouldn't come here asking for help as well because everything you need is on Google.

As for the " lazy ones"(as described by the "goons) pls,you can always take you time by doing extra work when and after you decide to apply to a school. I know some of us can't navigate our way around Google, complete the entire admission process, submit the required documents etc., don't be shy,ask questions here. We are here to help ourselves and their is no shame about it.

If you are one of those that like to censor information from others pls and pls don't come to "me" asking for help because I won't help. I don't know it all but the little I know is meant for those who key into the philosophy that "we rise by helping others even the " lazy ones".

Assuming say some "goons" for here be Jesus that year when in come preach salvation, wetin we call Christians today for no just day.

Sharing info about your school shouldn't be a problem in fact that's always been the norm when I first visited the US travel thread far back in 2010. First,if I decide to make inquiry about the school on your transcript you should know that what follows after is strictly on me. From writing my SOP,sending recommendation letters, sending and responding to GC's mails etc would be on me.

I might be looking for a school with an affordable deficit, a reasonable GA,Tuition waiver, similar research interest etc,. Surprising, I stumbled on a transcript on the thread that has one or two of the above, checking out this school doesn't make me lazy,it makes the process much more easier for me.

On the other hand,if you decide to hide the name of your school on your transcript simply because some Nairalanders are too lazy to search for schools themselves, you have no business coming here for help because everything you need is also on Google.

And lastly,if someone feels threatened and proceed to drag me I will not hesitate to do the same.

Proposed transcript.
Kindly help me review it.

I was previously denied a visa in July, 2019 @ Abuja. While my interview didn't last for up to 2minutes the only questions asked was "why this school" and "what other schools did you apply to?". What I noticed afterwards was that she felt I should have gone with one of the schools other than one I was going to. Note, she didn't spill this out directly but it was crystal clear that was what she implied. Well,I didn't reapply until now.

My interview is in few weeks from now and below is my proposed transcript.

All protocol observed...

VO:Where are you headed to?
ME: Grand valley State University for my Master's in Criminal Justice with a Concentration in Law Enforcement Administration.

VO: You were denied in 2019 so,what has changed since then?

ME: I completed my PGD diploma in Criminology and Security Studies at the National Open University of Nigeria in 2020. I left my former job at Soji Solomon & Associates and now work as a Field operating officer, a subset of the Criminal Investigative Department of the NPF.

VO: Why this School?

ME: This field is sub divided into three which are Law enforcement administration, Courts, Rehabilitation and correction. Since I'm more interested in identifying crime and apprehending criminals, Law Enforcement suit me best. After checking the brochure of this school,I realise it is a perfect match with my current job while it also aligns with my career goals since it allows me concentrate in Law Enforcement Administration.

In addition to this,I was admitted to two schools. In other to be sure,I proceeded to check the course curriculum for both schools. Unlike NMSU, the course curriculum at GVSU cut across all the three sub divisions of the field even though over 65 percent of my courses would concentrate on LEA. This was not the case at NMSU.

More so,I would be opportune to work with the only female professor of crime mapping in this field. Her expertise in this area of CJ is highly needed in the management of crime and security in my country. Having reached out to her and considering I have a background in Criminology and SS,she is glad to have me work with as she is currently working on a research that attempt to address insecurity in third world countries, one of which is Nigeria.

VO: What will this program do for you?

ME: In Feb. 2020, we received what was supposed to be a classified Intel from Narcotic department of the NDLEA about the whereabouts of a wanted drug baron. Unknown to us that someone within our department had been compromised,we walked into an ambush. I practically saw my life flashed before my eyes...my daughters without a father and a lot flashed within my mind. I came to the conclusion that a dead man can't fight crime hence,I feel I would be more useful with the administrative section of my department which is the brainbox of the whole department. Unfortunately, the minimum requirement to switch is a Master's degree.

We have over 240million Nigerians with none of us knowing what's coming next. Reports shows that crime that takes days, weeks and months to plan are the ones with the most casualties hence this kind of crimes(Kidnapping, bank robbery, etc) can effectively me managed with the help of crime mapping. Working with Prof. Tina Godfrey, the only female academician to partner with the FBI in the hunt for Osama Bin Laden having adopted crime mapping would be helpful in this regards.

Upon successfully completing this program,I will be opportune to take the administrative exam plus I would automatically skip four stages. Should I pass the exam, the offer it comes with includes but not limited to increment in Salary.

VO: What's your study plan?

ME: I am expected to complete 36 credits throughout the duration of my program which means 9 credit per semester. I would be taking courses like Criminal Justice Research, Crime analysis and Data Collection, Society and Policing, The mind of the artist etc. I am expected to maintain a 3.25GPA to remain in the Program and a 3.52 GPA to be considered for a GA in Winter.

VO:What's your educational and work background?

ME: I completed my Bachelor's degree in Philosophy in 2015 and proceeded for the compulsory NYSC program in mid 2016 which was completed in Mid 2017. I worked briefly with Educare Foundation after which I left to work with Soji Solomon and Associates. I left there in 2019 for my Post Graduate Diploma in Criminology & SS which was completed in late 2020. Towards the tail end of 2020,I applied and got employed as a Field Operating Officer, a subset of Criminal Investigative Department of the NPF.

What's your take ??

I think this is the second time I'm seeing this accusation, the first was in the Birthing Thread, truth however is that this can hardly be correct, marked difference exist methinks, a very wide one.

Justwise has to protect this section of Nairaland, I understand. Twood normally is worth standing up for, but his approach will definitely come under sharp criticism at some point. Quite disheartening he couldn't just sit himself down to allay the worries in some of our minds.... This issue wouldn't have snowballed into what it is right now had he done the needful. How can there be a yet to be cleared allegation on your head and you decide to carry on as though "nothing dey happen" and keep throwing tantrums, I mean your credibility is diminishing seriously and you still don't care just because maybe this is a faceless forum? No be so, e no go work! E go just over you like that aswear....

All I expected was just for him to put this accusation in the right perspective if not for anything but for tomorrow, to retain his voice. Pretty bad.

You expected him to do this?? Issokay.

The current situation in Nigeria is perhaps one of the numerous reasons responsible for why alot of Nigerians often abscond to the US under false pretense, though THIS IS NOT a sufficient reason to go under false pretense. Who doesn't want a good life? The US government is very much aware of this and appears to have taken strict measures to manage it.
A lot of people come to Nairaland to get help often inform of information. While SOME come with misguided reasons to take certain actions,OTHERS are very much aware but willing to proceed. The FORMER often requires proper orientation from knowledgeable people on why taking such actions will not only backfire, the desired result cannot be attained. The LATTER,sometimes requires a blunt approach to dissuade them from proceeding with it. I have seen a handful of knowledgeable people on Nairaland provide reasonable replies to controversial questions as regards dissuading some desperate Nigerians from travelling to the US illegally. A typical example is Mouth Gig. This guy has a way of dissuading some "nairalanders" from doing things wrongly,he go as far as providing less rigid but legal alternatives.

TWOOD on the other hand isn't an expection even though I personally find is approach extremely rigid. He is quick to critize, occasionally disrespectful and some times fails to realise that some of is victims were only misinformed and hence,a simple "why not do it this way or take that way"is all that is needed to put them on the right track. Maybe this wasn't enough,he portrayed himself not only as a judge but as someone who cannot ,will not do anything,or tolerate anyone doing anything illegal or under false pretense. If you don't know, alot of nairalanders loved this dude because he spoke the truth always. However, you don't expect Nairalanders, most especially is victims to keep quiet when a similar allegation is levelled against is brother. Rather than debunk the allegation,he is beating around the bush.

I am sorry for providing alternatives usernames for you,but to be frank with you,I wasn't sorry when I suggested it. Before critizing people, take your time to reflect well,if you were in a similar situation, how will you react? Is this the right approach? I stand to be corrected.

So OmoBendel4 went looking for my old posts on the US forum?? Lolllllllllllllllllllllllll...it is alright. Like I said,I am always ready to defend anything I say on Nairaland and also ready to accept my mistakes as well.

Who cares if it wasn't Twood but is brother? That dude didn't consider this when he went about criticizing other people's families. Unlike Twood,BJ,took is time to explain and convince intending absconders to either desist from doing so or suggested a better alternative.

Such a shame.... Twoods can never be in the good books of your likes! I still don't have much issues with Twoods stance per se, but with his approach somehow, and particularly with his response so far to those calling him out on Signature2012's post concerning his Brother's matter vis-a-vis his portrayed stance on here.

Of course, Twoods views must rile you up....

Rile me up?? Then you don't know my kind of person. Do you think I care? I have never criticized Twood not until now. Before I came across BJ on the US forum,I was already on Belgium study forum gathering all the needed information to study at VUB. Since I couldn't meet up with deadline because my transcript got to them late,I was denied admission. I am pretty sure you saw all these when you hurriedly went looking for my old posts on the US forum. Thanks to BJ who eventually directed me on what can be done. However,if I decide to take a pragmatic approach, how are you affected? I directed my question to BJ and not you or Twood.

At least,I came out here to clear the air, tell the coward to do the same.

The first time I stumbled on Twood's comment,he was so mean and blunt;he didn't spare anybody whose intention was to abscond to the US under a false pretence or attempted to do anything "illegal" to remain in the US. The annoying part was,he sometimes did this without prove. Twood doesn't "OWN ME" any explanation because I never placed much expectation on him. This dude is "overrated"on Nairaland which is why most of you were taken aback when it was discovered that he isn't after all what he claimed to be,a wolf in lamb clothing.

"What could have happened if this dude was a consular at the Nigeria embassy?"I once asked myself.

My first observation to both transcripts is that both of them orchestrated a situation in which the VO's question was inferred from it. Just like taking the fight to the lion. Just saying...I stand to be corrected though.

Hello Frank,

Thanks for all the comprehensive and blunt advice you have given so far, describing you as an altruistic person isn't enough to describe what you have done so far.

Staying back in Nigeria to invest the required amount to come over to T&T isn't a bad advice,to be honest with you,it is the honest truth. I would have prefer staying back myself, but,at a second thought, considering the economic situation in Nigeria and the pessimistic recovery rate in the nearest future, the happiness and future of my unborn kids and family becomes paramount. Relocating outside Africa isn't always about what "I" stand to benefit, but how well I build a future of my family...Nigeria cannot guarantee such for "some" of us for now, maybe tomorrow,I don't know. The rate at which Nigerians travel via land speaks volumes and only affirms the hardship in Nigeria. While some are doing fine in Nigeria, few are doing fairly fine and the rest struggling to survive, travelling out of Africa-Nigeria becomes inevitable.

Travelling out of Africa with the hope of making it is a risk, most of us don't even know what awaits us,while a handful have families and strong connections across Africa, alot of us with the aspiration to leave have nobody except information from people like you and God.

I have a B.A in philosophy from Obafemi Awolowo university. My course isnt considered a professional course which is why I am going to ask the following questions:

♡Are there SHORT professional courses like nursing that I can apply for?
♡If question one is available, which of the universities /colleges offers them at an affordable price?
♡I don't intend staying long in T&T before relocating to a better place, how can this be achieved after completing No2 if it is possible.

Thanks.

I was of the view should that space "name of employee"be filled directly on the paper with a pen by the man who authorised it or should I scan and resend back to the man who authorised so that it can 've filled on the system. Besides,I will have to scan this prove of language proficiency when resending back to VUB
