The National Senate of Nigeria has requested for 2.5% of 2017 Budget in the National treasury to fund a project. The Senate made a move to create a Constituency Development Fund to be held in the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, and sponsored from deductions from yearly national revenues. A bill for the new legislation, tagged ‘Constituency Development Fund Bill 2016′ has been introduced to the Upper Chamber by Senate Leader, Mohammed Ali Ndume. If this bill is signed and passed into law, 2.5 % of the yearly budget and other monetary accruals will go to the constituency projects and if by 2017 the legislation is still functioning, N182.5 billion of the N7.3 trillion budget will be going to the projects. If this amount is for only members of the Upper Chamber, each senator of the house will go home with N1.7 billion each. However, this move by the legislators may cause further disagreement between them and the executive which has the constitutional responsibility to allocate projects in budgets and signing them. The National Assembly’s duty is to pass annual budgets and bills. In less than a week before receiving the N7.3 trillion 2017 budget proposal from President Muhammadu Buhari on December 14, 2016, the senate endorsed for further legislative work, a bill to reserve 20 per cent of annual budgets for National Assembly Constituency Projects. The bill, sponsored by Stella Oduah (PDP, Anambra North), after passing the second reading, was referred to the Senate committees on Appropriation and Finance, is expected to be passed into law early next year. The bill will ensure that the Department of Rural and Urban Development of the Ministry of Agriculture is able to play their functional roles particularly in regards to the constituency projects, which will ensure up-to-date and efficient management of the fund; receiving and discussing list of proposed projects from the constituencies; ensuring the execution of approved projects to completion; and ensuring the compilation of proper records, returns and reports for the constituencies. According to the Senate President Bukola Saraki, said the move is just saying: “I don’t think there is anything that ensures equity in the country like the constituency projects to our constituencies, full stop.” |
The Registrar Of Pharmacists Council of Nigeria (PCN), Pharmacist Elijah Mohammed, , has restated the Federal Government’s commitment towards ending of open drug hawking by August 1, 2017. Pharm. Mohammed assured Nigerians during an interview in Abuja yesterday saying it is part of the efforts to control drug distribution system in Nigeria. He said the step would assist in closing the menace of open drug hawking. In addition, he said a lot of the hawkers sell expired, fake and adulterated medicines. He said that the affected dealers would be repositioned to the centres that will enable them to carry out their activities in a well-conducted manner. According to him, the centres would go a long way to ending drug hawking, among others, as there is going to be strict regulation of drug distribution and sales at the centres. Furthermore, he however stated that anyone caught operating outdoors after the dead-line date would be arrested and punished accordingly by the law. “The issue of open drug market will end by August 1st next year and we are working hard toward that and have arranged necessary measures to take care of that which is the coordinated wholesale centres.” “The coordinated wholesale centre in Onitsha which is situated in Oba will oversee the Onitsha overhead bridge. And we have inspected the location and it has been granted approval and development has kicked off.” “We have just four centres to control the major open drug market and we have only one centre in each of the states where those operations are predominant because it was only one open drug market that have been identified,” said Pharmacist Elijah Mohammed. Reports said that at the time that Buhari was forced to cancel Isa’s ministerial nomination to be a minister after discovering that he had accepted the funds from Dasuki. The Executive Governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Peter Ayodele Fayose has promoted 15,772 public servants in the state this. In a statement made in Ado Ekiti on Sunday and signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr Idowu Adelusi, said the promotion goes to all workers in the local governments, teaching service and the core civil servants. The statement said that the beneficiaries are mainly of those whose promotions were due since 2012, 2013 and 2014. It said that Governor Fayose promotes workers in festive mood and and to be done without delay. The statement, however, said the promotion status still remained the same, as the cash backing for the exercise would be effective only from March 2017. It announced that all categories of workers in the state had been paid two months salaries in December, while Christmas bonus would be paid immediately after the Christmas holiday. The statement quoted the governor as saying that, though, the state was currently struggling with economic difficulties, it did not mean that workers should not be recognised for their hard work. We won’t deny our workers their dues and entitlements, economic recession or no economic recession, as leaders of the state, we must be fair to all and that is what we are doing Our administration is resolute in giving the best to all Ekiti people, including those in the public service. This month alone, we have paid two salaries, we are also paying Christmas bonus after the holiday "We deliberately spaced the payment of the bonus so that after the Christmas holiday, workers will still have something to fall back on," it said. |

Woman spends 1,250 pounds on dogs for Christmas gifts. Vikki Jose, the woman who spent N.4m on her dogs has admitted that she spent more money on her dogs this Christmas than her boyfriend. The 26 year old woman, lavishes money her ‘furry babies’, four-year-old Labrador, Harvey; and two-year-old Bichon Frise, Lola, during festive seasons. She said she love the way she spends on her dogs than her boyfriend(reason unknown) as she spends 1,250 pounds this Christmas on her two dogs up to the worth of N.4m. The spoilt pooches even have their own Christmas wish list for Saint Nicholas (Santa Claus), as well as personalised stockings and advent calendars with doggy treats inside. The owner of the dogs, Vikki, of Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, has spent over £10,000 on her cherised dogs over the last four years. And she happily admits to spending more on her mutts than her boyfriend of three years, Jack Cassidy, a 26 year old car body painter. The healthcare assistant says: “My friends and family think I’ve gone nuts when it comes totaking care of my dogs. But I don’t see them as dogs, I see them as humans stuck in dogs’ bodies.” “To me, they are my children and the most special thing in my life. At the end of the month, if I have £100 left, I’ll go out and buy them loads of toys. They give me so much unconditional love and there’s no feeling like it.” Also Read: Tekno Gets Knocked Out from Headies Next Rated Award Vikki, who lives at home with her mum, Amanda Jose, 50, a kitchen assistant and dad, Ian, 54, a construction worker, has started piling up on Christmas gifts for her pooches since September resulting to spending 1,250 Pounds on the dogs this Christmas. Incredibly, Vikki has splashed 1,250 Pounds on the dogs for Christmas gifts, compared to 700 Pounds spent on her boyfriend. This year she has bought 100 presents for her dogs, including loads of soft toys, clothes, blankets, new collars, cushions, treats, and leads. Vikki says: “Seeing their faces light up when I give them a new toy or treat is worth every moment. People spend thousands on their children at Christmas, so why not a pet? Harvey and Lola are like my children, so I don’t see the difference.” On Christmas morning, the cute dogs usually begin their day by opening the last window of their advent calendars and then enjoy a breakfast feast of sardines and rice. Afterwards, the pair are presented with a mound of wrapped gifts under the tree. While the Jose family sit down together and enjoy a hearty Christmas meal, Harvey and Lola tuck into their own mini turkey dinner with all the trimmings, followed by a special pet-friendly Christmas pudding. Tekno, the popular Pana crooner has been knocked out from the Next Rated list of the Headies Award 2016. Tekno Gets Knocked Out The category will now be open to the quartet of Mr Eazi, Aramide, Humblesmith and Ycee, as the ‘Pana’ hit star lost his ticket. According to top sources, Tekno lost out on his spot due to his nonchalant attitude to grace the category and support the campaign. As expected, the Nominees are to attend promotional activities for the event, and also take part in promotion for the sponsor of the category, Hyundai. Tekno refused to submit himself for engagements, promo campaign photos and more. Tekno had earlier lambasted the Headies Awards when he was announced in the category. Using his Instagram, he said “Next rated after how many years! Let’s be honest pls”. see more: http://sollygist.com/tekno-gets-knocked-out-from-headies-next-rated-award/ |
