Politics / Buhari: Underperfomance In Economic Sector; Any Better Option? by AdigunOAP: 5:54pm On Oct 12, 2018
Buhari-led administration has underperformed in economic sector; GDP and HDI under APC is not encouraging nor improving. For a better Nigeria, we need a better strategist and an effective manager. Did you have an option rather than Buhari? If Yes; convince us with facts, why your candidate or party is the right option.

Business / Re: CBN Introduces New Charges On Bank Deposits And Withdrawals by AdigunOAP: 7:34am On Feb 24, 2017
The Central Bank of Nigeria on Thursday announced the reintroduction of bank charges on certain categories of cash deposits and withdrawals.
This came about three years after the apex bank stopped the charges.
In a circular to all Deposit Money Banks posted on its website, the regulator said the decision to reintroduce the charges on cash deposits was part of the review of charges on deposits and withdrawals under the cashless policy .
It said the decision was taken at the Bankers’ Committee meeting , which held in Abuja two weeks ago.
The circular , signed by the Director, Banking and Payments System Department, CBN, Mr . Dipo Fatokun, stated that the committee decided that the cashless policy should be extended to the remaining 30 states of the federation.
It also directed that with effect from April 1 , 2017, banks in the states where the cashless policy was already operating , Lagos , Ogun , Anambra , Abia, Kano , Rivers and the Federal Capital Territory , would begin to impose charges on deposits and withdrawals above N 500 ,000 .
Banks will from that date begin to charge individuals 1 . 5 per cent and two per cent for deposits and withdrawals between N 500 ,000 and N 1 m .
According to the circular , individuals depositing or withdrawing between N 1 m and N 5 m will be charged two per cent and three per cent, respectively.
For amounts above N 5 m , banks will charge such individuals three per cent and 7 . 5 per cent for deposits and withdrawals, respectively.
With regard to corporate customers, the CBN stated that deposits and withdrawals under N 3 m would not attract any charge , but that such customers depositing or withdrawing between N 3 m and N 10 m would be charged two per cent and five per cent, respectively.
Also for deposits and withdrawals between N 10 m and N 40 m , customers will be charged three per cent and 7 . 5 per cent, respectively . Deposits or withdrawals above N 40 m by corporate customers will attract a charge of five per cent and 10 per cent, respectively .
According to the CBN , the new policy on charges will be implemented in selected states on May 1 and August 1 , this year ; while the total implementation will be concluded on October 1 .
The regulator noted that the committee agreed that income generated from the processing fees above the allowable cash limits would be shared between it and the banks in the ratio of 40 : 60 .
However, the CBN said that existing exemptions to the policy such as revenue generating agencies of the federal , state and local governments (for lodgements ) will be sustained . Also exempt from the processing fees are embassies , diplomatic missions , multilateral and aid agencies.
The CBN directed lenders to train their employees to enlighten customers on the new policy .

Politics / Chadian President, Idriss Debby Emerges New African Union Chairman by AdigunOAP: 2:44pm On Jan 30, 2016

Chadian President Idriss Debby has emerged the new chairman of the African Union heads of states and governments.

Idriss took over from President Robert Mugabe of Zimbabwe and was unveiled on Saturday at the 26th African Union Summit holding in Addis Ababa.

African heads of state and government gathered in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia on Saturday (January 30), to take part in the 26th African Union (AU) summit.

"I accept this task with pleasure, but with a little agony as the responsibility you entrust in me is heavy and fraught with challenges," Deby said, in speech at AU headquarters in Ethiopia.

He told fellow presidents that conflicts across the continent had to end.

"Everything that we are doing now will be in vain and without purpose if we allow Africa to go through these perpetual crises: South Sudan, Libya, Somalia, Burundi, the Sahel, the Lake Chad basin," Deby said.

"Through diplomacy or by force... we must put an end to these tragedies of our time. We cannot make progress and talk of development if part of our body is sick. We should be the main actors in the search for solution to Africa's crises."

The continent-wide body, is scheduled to tackle a broad agenda centred on women's empowerment, infrastructure development and peace and security in the region.

The ongoing crisis in Burundi is one of the top issues up for discussion.

The bloc wants to deploy 5,000 peacekeepers in the central African state, where hundreds have died in the worst violence since an ethnically charged civil war ended in 2005.

But President Pierre Nkurunziza - who triggered the crisis by standing for a third term in July elections - has rejected the plan, saying the arrival of any such force would be seen as an invasion.

African Union leaders are expected to try to persuade Nkurunziza to accept the force during the AU summit this weekend but diplomats said they were not optimistic that he would change tack.

The crisis in South Sudan, where a civil war is tearing the young country apart, is also expected to be discussed.

President Salva Kiir and rebel leader Riek Machar signed a peace deal in August but both sides have consistently broken a ceasefire, while human rights violations have "continued unabated and with full impunity," the U.N. has said.

The two-day summit, which will end on Sunday evening, was preceded by a meeting of African foreign ministers.

Mugabe, Africa's oldest president aged 91, has held the ceremonial role for the past year, welcomed his "brother" Deby to the post.

"Whatever support you want from me, I will still be there, until God says come, then I'll go and join the others," Mugabe said. "But as long as I am still alive, I will still have the punch."

Deby, 63, one of Africa's longest-ruling presidents, emerged as the leader of the arid north-central African state in December 1990, after the war which ousted the regime of Hissene Habre.

The one-year presidency which rotates between different regions of the continent.

Sports / Triple H Wins WWE World Heavyweight Championship At 2016 Royal Rumble by AdigunOAP: 6:35am On Jan 25, 2016

WWE superstar and on-screen COO Triple H won the 2016 Royal Rumble last eliminating Dean Ambrose, at the Amway centre in Orlando, Florida on Monday morning.

Triple H, who had been seriously injured by then-WWE World
Heavyweight Champion at the Survivor Series Pay Per View last
November, came back to win the Rumble match and become the WWE World Heavyweight Champion.

Roman Reigns, who is involved in a storyline feud with the McMahon
family and Triple H, was eliminated by The Game. Triple H entered the match last at No 30, eliminating Bray Wyatt, Sheamus and Roman Reigns before finally throwing Reigns' friend Dean Ambrose over the top rope to win the Rumble for the second time.

Usually, the Royal Rumble winner from each year goes to Wrestlemania to face the champion. This year however, the rules were changed.

The Royal Rumble winner would actually become the champion.

The new stipulation had been added to disadvantage Roman Reigns, who also entered the match as the very first competitor. Subsequently, Triple H has begun his 14th reign with the title.

This is Triple H's second Rumble win. He won his first in 2002.

The other big name promoted before the Royal Rumble was Brock Lesnar, who lost the WWE World Title at Wrestlemania 31 last year despite not being pinned.

Lesnar entered the 2016 event at No 23, eliminating four superstars including three of the Wyatt family. However, he was then attacked by all four members of the group and its leader Bray subsequently eliminated Lesnar.

Surprise entrants into the Rumble included Sami Zayn, who had been
injured last year, and AJ Styles, best known for his 12-year tenure with Total Nonstop Action (TNA) Wrestling. Styles' entry at No 3 was his debut in the WWE.
He was eliminated by Kevin Owens.

Travel / British Airway Plane Bursts Into Flames At Las Vegas Airport, 14 People Injured by AdigunOAP: 7:29am On Sep 09, 2015

A plane packed with passengers has burst into flames on a Las
Vegas runway just moments before it was set to take off.

The British Airways flight bound for London Gatwick was taxiing on the tarmac at McCarran Airport on Tuesday night when it suddenly caught fire after a catastrophic engine failure.

Terrified travelers on other flights captured the plumes of smoke coming from the Boeing 777 as those on board were forced to jump down inflatable slides and run away from the blaze.

Fourteen people were then taken to hospital for treatment - many
suffering from suspected smoke inhalation while others were hurt when they evacuated.

There were 159 passengers and 13 crew members on board at the time.

According to preliminary information, the plane experienced a left engine fire on takeoff, said Ian Gregor, a spokesman for the Federal Aviation Administration's Pacific Division.

The pilot is heard calling 'mayday' and asking for 'heavy fire services' in a recorded transmission from air traffic control.
One runway was shut but flights continued to depart on remaining
runways as paramedics treated those caught up in the fire.

Jacob Steinberg, a football and tennis writer who was on the flight, Tweeted: 'Just evacuated on a British Airways flight at Las Vegas airport after an engine caught fire. Don't think anyone hurt.
