Metrix147: Man Battles For His Life After Assault By Abia COVID-19 Taskforce Officer
A middle-aged man whose name could not be disclosed is currently battling for his dear life following several punches and serial assault by enforcement officers attached to Umuahia North Covid-19 protocol enforcement team.
Trouble started when the victim, a commercial tricycle operator who approached a checkpoint opposite the General Post office in the capital city and was stopped by the taskforce officers.
It was discovered that one of his passengers was not wearing the mandatory face mask.
She was said to have hurriedly searched for it from his bag before the team attacked the Keke rider for carrying a passenger allegedly violating COVID-19 safety protocol.
The officers directed the Keke operator to take the vehicle to the local council headquarters and as he was still asking the taskforce member to take it easy, he received a deadly blow on his face, with three other punches coming simultaneously before the victim lost his balance and slumped lifelessly on the road.
The scenario attracted passersby who gathered to see the end of the Thursday afternoon drama while the attacker fumed in his rage over what he saw as belittling by the tricycle operator.
But when it became obvious that the Keke Operator may not be coming back so soon, the crowd became violent and insisted that the task force staff single-handedly convey his victim to hospital.
In the melee that ensued, the irate mob started manhandling the taskforce staff who after taking the heat for a while, made well his escape after taking to his heels and running into the council headquarters.

gregyboy: Na now this one dey know, lol
Check african food crops like beans, yam and the Others and how dey got to africa and even cassava
Before slave trade what did you think they were trading shit and mess
Keep reading bro You can make your point without being disrespectful. Besides, I know about the origin of cassava and beans.Yams however, are indigenous to Africa. One thing about people who claim to know it all is that in their haste to make sense, they often convey nonsense. You need to know that yam is native to Africa. Reading is clearly different from assimilation. Have a good day. |
Culture › Did You Know That The Ankara Wax Is Not African? by ADMAF(op): 8:31am On Jun 27, 2020 |
Imagine how shocked I was to find out that the "ANKARA" wax print that is so readily tagged a symbol of African identity, industry and sophistication was stolen from an Asian culture, replicated in Europe, forced on the Malay and then exported to Africa. In reality, "our" wax prints are just subtle reinforcements of the perpetuation of colonialism and of the utmost economic benefit to Europe ( and more recently the Chinese). Ankara did not originate from the continent and until relatively recently, weren't even produced on the continent.

kikero: No it isn't right. UNN, UI and Unilag, like all Nigerian universities are severely underfunded
That's why they can't compete with other African universities, or on the global stage.
Add the fact that the education budget is less than 3 billion dollars, and you get the picture.
Education is expensive, and God knows I don't like that fact. I wasnt going to comment until you compared UNN with other Unis to make it seem like it is underfunded viz-a-viz other Nigerian Unis. While I agree with the quoted comment, its important for UNN management to introspect particularly regarding how some Unis have been able to utilise relatively low funds to run a more efficient system. I will keep mentioning UI until due recognition is given to that institution. How it has been able to maintain such consistently high standards in spite of meagre funding is nothing short of a "miracle." |
Education › Re: My Visit To The University Of Nigeria (pics, Video) by ADMAF(m): 7:33pm On Jun 26, 2020 |
kikero: School fees for UNN this year is N70000-77000 per annum. Which in dollar terms translates to less than $200 per annum.
School fees for covenant university is N857,000-N1million.
And you are expecting UNN to look nice on scanty school fees. Compared with Covenant which is charging high fees to begin with.
Let's be honest. Universities are EXPENSIVE. Yes, it was built with palm oil money. Now, how does the school get money to maintain what was built with palm oil money
The money you spend on buying a car is not the same as the money you will spend maintaining it.
Either UNN students pay higher fees, or we take more LOANS. Baba, UI fees is a whole lot less than what you have posted, and they have the best facilities maintenance culture amongst federal universities, admit the fewest no. of students and remain far ahead of any other Federal uni. in the Country. They also receive less allocation than UNN. You can look for other excuses, but this isnt one |

Kingosytex: Well, the first step will be to reduce the number of law makers breakers in the legislature.
Those guys are practically doing nothing to earn the billions they are being paid.
I will also champion massive sensitisation and re-orientation. Virtues like truth, honesty and contentment must be inculcated in the lives of the upcoming generations because this present generation is a lost cause. Its every president's wish to reduce the size or even get rid of the legislature so that he can be fully in charge. However, except you are going to resort to draconian measures, the process is so tedious, you will end up frustrated. |

CAPSLOCKED: THE ONE EYED KING.... YOU'RE VERY CORRECT.
UNDER NORMAL SETTINGS SEF WE SHOULDN'T EVEN BE MENTIONING LOCAL SCHOOLS LIKE UNILAG OR HYPING THAT SLUM. EXCEPT THAT NAIJA IS LOADED WITH SLUM-SCHOOLS FROM NORTH TO SOUTH SO WE'RE SHORT OF OPTIONS. OUR NEIGHBORS LIKE GHANA, EGYPT, S/AFRICA AND THE REST ARE LIGHTYEARS AHEAD.
I WON'T LIE, IT IS BETTER TO ENROLL YOUR KIDS INTO FREE ALMAJERI SCHOOLS IN THE NORTH THAN SEND THEM TO ANY NIGERIAN UNIVERSITY.. BECAUSE THERE'S NO DIFFERENCE BETWEEN BOTH. South Africa and Egypt yes, but Ghana, NO. You people keep repeating this rubbish. UI and Covenant are ranked ahead of any other Uni in West Africa. UI particularly has been consistently ranked in the top 8 unis in Africa for years. Making generalizations is unfair and takes the shine off what the institution hs been able to achieve in spite of the obvious challenges faced by Nigerian universities. |

Despite Nigeria claiming giant of africa, and having vast resources UI and Covenant are the only Nigerian Unis in the top 10 in Africa. Always crosscheck your facts before coming to disgrace your self on nairaland. FYI, UI even ranks higher than any Ghanian Uni on times higher education ranking, which by the way is the most prestigious world ranking for Universities. |

IkwerrePikin: Misplaced priority. How have all these things help a common man like you? How much increase in your bank account?
It would have been better if all the money used for those project which only the elites with abuja connection will enjoy to just give Nigerians even if it’s 18hrs per day electricity.
With electricity your life will change, price of data you’re using to text will decrease, price of goods, petrol, food stuffs will reduce. More companies will come to do business in Nigeria creating more jobs, hospitals, schools, security systems, street lights will function better and we would have an upgrade in processing of data across the web in Nigeria will be faster than it is which would boost our economy.
Stop celebrating rubbish, ask for something that would better your life. Thank you 1. If you had taken time to read, you'd have found where he mentioned power projects. 2. All forms of infrastructure are essential for sustained economic growth. |
