Politics / Re: Supreme Court Bars FG From Paying Allocations To LGs With Unelected Officials by Advocatesam(f): 12:42pm On Jul 11 |
JUDGMENT ON LG "AUTONOMY" NOT YET UHURU. At best, it's pyrrhic victory, if I may say. Though am yet to read the full text of the judgement, but going by the brief summary of what one is reading in the media, this judgement may not stand the test of time. Not yet Uhuru! 1. Their Lordships of the Supreme Court, have neglected to take a cursory look at the provisions of Section 162 (5) and (6) making clear and unambiguous provisions that the LGs allocations will first go to the states and again, creating the Joint Allocation account, between the states and the LGs. Can we say the Supreme Court has, by this judgement, nullified or expunged this constitutional provisions by fiat? 2. The governors are the greatest obstacles to rapid development in the 774 LGs since the inception of this democratic experiment. I forsee them going back to the Supreme Court for a clear judicial interpretation of section 162 (5) and (6). And again, in the interim, I still forsee them finding a political succour to the issue at hand, kind of hoodwink the LG chairmen into submitting the funds in an arrangement that will never be clear to anyone. 3. My suggested panacea to the imbroglio: let there be a constitutional amendment that will expunge section 162 (5) and (6) and also section 197(1) of the 1999 constitution providing for States Independent Electoral Commissions. If this is achieved, then we can be talking of true autonomy for the LGs. 1 Like |

Properties / Re: DATKEM Plaza: This Is Executive Recklessness - Funke Daniel To Gov Abiodun by Advocatesam(f): 8:57pm On Sep 10, 2023 |
Folagbade is a very popular road/street in Ijebu-Ode. It's the major road that links the city to the Ore/ Ijebu-Ode highway. A building of this magnitude is supposed to have ample parking and open spaces around it. The building will attract both human and vehicular traffic. If the building is allowed to stay, a foreseeable hazard is imminent. A building of that size is also expected to be subjected to rigorous Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA). The people calling the governor Òtá ajé are ignorant of Town Planning standards. My question now is, why did the Ministry wait for so long before taking action? Many things could have transpired Viz: 1. The Excellency woman could have used her influence at the Ministry to get the plan approved during her reign. 2. The Development Control officers could have been bribed to get the plan approved 3. The Excellency could have disobeyed the Ministry's advice against the development. The major impact if the building if allowed to stay include the ff among others: 1. Congestion of both pedestrians and vehicles causing delays and untold hardship to residents and road users; 2. Future flooding hazard could be aggravated around the structure affecting unsuspecting neighbors; 3. The absence of adequate setback to the road and other buildings could lead to unwanted loss of lives and properties in case of fire, house collapse, etc. Conclusion: the action of the Dapo Abiodun government is in order, it is better to err in the place of caution. Expert Advice 1. Consult competent professionals before embarking on monstrous projects of this nature. 2. Politicians should allow professionals to do their work unhindered. 3. Let sustainability be our watchword before embarking on projects that kills the future of generations yet unborn |
Family / Re: Lagos Court Grants Wives Equal Rights Over Husbands’ Properties by Advocatesam(f): 3:42pm On May 30, 2023 |
I submit that this judgement will not likely stand the test of time, chances are that it will be overruled on appeal. Lots of loopholes are apparently manifesting here. Unresolved issues as to the marital status of the man, the state of contract between employer and employee, equitable right of redemption, especially between spouses, the position of joint ownership between partners, duty of disclosure among couples etc. Well, at best, this appears to me as a kind of judicial rascality coming from a Lagos High Court bench. How it will sail through on appeal is like a mirage to me. My opinion please. 5 Likes 1 Share |

JAMB RELEASES 2023 UTME RESULTS …Send UTME RESULT to 55019 or 66019 to have your results - JAMB The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has released the results of the 2023 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) conducted between Tuesday, 25th April, 2023, and Monday, 1st May, 2023. A total of 1, 595, 779 candidates had registered to take the examination in 708 CBT centres in 105 examination towns in the country. It is, however, to be noted that the released results excluded those of candidates (i)who were rescheduled to take their examination on Saturday, 6th April, 2023 (ii) those absent (ii) those under investigation, as well as (iii) those of visually impaired candidates, which are undergoing processing. To check the results, all a candidate needs to do is to simply send UTMERESULT to 55019 or 66019 using the same phone number that he/she had used for registration and the result would be returned as a text message. Also to be noted is the fact that the released results, when checked by candidates, would return the status of the candidates. For instance, with respect to absent or rescheduled candidates, or those under investigation, the response would be: YOU WERE ABSENT, RESCHEDULED OR UNDER INVESTIGATION. Therefore, only candidates who are not under any of these categories would have a returned result. For the purpose of clarity, rescheduled candidates comprised the following: A. UNVERIFIED CANDIDATES These are candidates, who were registered for the 2023 UTME without manifesting any biometric difficulty but who could not be verified on the day of the examination. These candidates had not previously manifested any fingerprint defect or experienced any biometric challenge during the 2023 UTME registration but could not be verified to sit the examination on their scheduled examination date. These candidates will be taking their examination in Abuja, under close supervision. B. CANDIDATES AT BEAUTIFUL BEGINNING CBT CENTRE, APO, ABUJA All candidates, who were scheduled to sit the 2023 UTME at the Beautiful Beginning CBT Centre, Apo, Abuja, but missed the examination for whatever reason have been rescheduled to take the examination on Saturday, 6th May, 2023. The rescheduling of all the candidates, who missed the examination is as a result of the mistake made in the address of the centre, which had led to some candidates missing their examination. It would be recalled that the name of the centre, which is supposed to be "Beautiful Beginning CBT Centre, Apo, Abuja", had featured “Gwagwalada” rather than “Apo” hence misleading the candidates. As a responsible organisation, the Board would not abdicate its responsibilities and has consequently, rescheduled all candidates posted to the centre, who could not sit their examination on account of the wrong address or any other reason, to ensure that no candidate misses the examination. C. CANDIDATES RESCHEDULED TO TAKE THE EXAMINATION ON THURSDAY, 27TH APRIL, 2023, BUT WHO COULD NOT RECEIVE THE NOTIFICATION Also to take the examination along with the unverified candidates on Saturday, 6th May, 2023, are those candidates, who had been rescheduled to retake their examination on Thursday, 27th April, 2023, but who received their notification late on Thursday night and so missed their examination. Some of these candidates could not receive the notification because their school held on to their channels of receiving messages such as their SIM cards, e-mail addresses and profile codes. However, the Board, in spite of its repeated warnings that its processes are not school-based and would not take responsibility for any of such dispositions, is bending over backwards to accommodate these set of candidates, who have also been rescheduled to sit the examination on Saturday, 6th May, 2023. D. CANDIDATES IN CENTRES WITH REDUCED CAPACITY Among the candidates, who have not taken their examination, are those whose centres could not carry their full capacity of 250 and, as such, had to be batched with some of these centres taking 150 candidates rather than the 250 allotted to them per session. Some of these outstanding candidates in the batched sessions have also been rescheduled and have taken the examination but some are yet to do so. E. CANDIDATES WITH DATA MISMATCH For obvious reasons, some CBT centres mismatched the data of some candidates they registered. The passports of some of these candidates were mismatched by the CBT centres or by their intruding schools. This category of candidates could not sit the examination as their mismatched personal details could not be rectified early enough to enable them sit their examination at their scheduled time. These candidates have now done the needful by swearing an affidavit and are being processed to take the rescheduled examination. PRINTING OF RESCHEDULED EXAMINATION NOTIFICATION SLIP All candidates under the categories listed above are required to print their slips on or before Thursday, 4th and Friday 5th May, 2023, so as to know the time and venue of their examination. Candidates are to note that they would be grouped in a central location within their respective States to sit the examination hence the need for them to print their notification slips latest by Thursday, 4th May, 2023, so as to make sufficient arrangements to take their examination. Properties / Storey Building Collapses In Delta by Advocatesam(f): 6:26am On Oct 21, 2022 |
A storey building housing a multi-million naira Supermarket along West-End, Asaba, Delta State capital, Thursday evening, collapsed. As at the time of filing this report, the number of casualties could not be ascertained. However, a number of persons who were rescued from the collapsed building were rushed to the Federal Medical centre for treatment. Our Correspondent reports that the rescue effort has been intensified at the collapsed building which is directly opposite the popular Emeka Ofor Plaza, near St. Patrick College. Sources said several bags of rice were offloaded into the top floor of the building earlier in the day. However, it could not be ascertained what was responsible for its collapse. The building has an adjoining bar and restaurant which was not affected by the collapse. At the time of filing this report, the effort was still being made to reach relevant authorities for confirmation of the number of casualties. olukaygold: Very laughable sir. My concrete mixing ratio had always been 4 rubbers (20l paint rubber) of sand (cos those artisans don't use head pan again) and 8 rubbers of granite stone. Worse case scenario was 6 rubbers of sand and 8 rubbers of granite stone to a bag of cement (1:3:4) Setting of blocks had always been 10 rubbers of sharp sand to a bag and same measurement was used for plastering. It is not about big man sir but following the laid down precedence on this forum. I have learnt alot on this forum 3 Likes |

I hate all these stories that touch, it is not easy to get money oooo I have always said it is easier for the camel to pass through the hole of a needle than to see a straightforward and honest self-acclaimed builder or civil engineer. The five-bedroon duplex they gave me a bill of 45 million plus or minus 10 percent is what I used 31 million to do under my strict supervision. They will collect all the millions and still won't give you quality service. nurey: Thanks for your prompt response. The type S is only available in 2007 and 2008 version but outcome of reviews I did online favoured the 3.2 TL 2006 model though on US soil which may not be fully applicable in Nigeria. The "very" raise to power 4 is scaring, maybe I should just go for the Accord though it seems the TL is more luxurious with cat life than the Accord. Thanks once again sir |

Kindly help me pick (Fuel economy should not be a factor) 2006 Acura TL vs 2010 Honda Accord (i4 engine) Determinants 1) Performance 2) Dependability 3) Reliability 4) Cost of parts (Engine, Transmission and others 5) Luxury I saw the 2006 Acura TL on "best car" list on carcomplaints.com the reason I picked 2006 in the model range of 2004-2008 |
