The minister of state for petroleum resources, Timipre Sylva has disclosed that fuel price increase is beyond the control of President Buhari who is also the minister of petroleum resources.

The Minister who spoke to newsmen in Abuja on Thursday September 3, said it is unfortunate that citizens are blaming the federal government which is not in charge of fixing the prices of petroleum products, for the increased price.

Sylva stated the focus of the authorities is to protect the interest of citizens. He said;

“Government is no longer in the business of fixing prices for petroleum products, we have stepped back.

“Our focus now is on protecting the interest of the consumers and making sure that marketers are not profiteering.

“Left for him, he will never allow the increase in pump price; for this to happen, it means that it is an inevitable decision. COVID-19 took the price of crude oil to zero zone.”

Lamenting on the deceased crude production from two million barrels to 1.412 million barrels per day, Sylva alleged that the deregulation of the sector was politicised.

He said;

“Deregulation will definitely come with few pains, but survival of the country is paramount."

124 new cases of COVID-19 were recorded in Nigeria on Thursday, September 3.

According to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), the new cases were recorded in twelve states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Lagos had 42 new cases, the highest for the day followed by the FCT with 25 new cases. Other states with new cases include Katsina – 14, Kaduna – 11, Kwara State-8, Ondo – 7; Delta – 4; Anambra – 3; Oyo – 3; Edo – 2; Ogun – 2; Osun – 2 and Cross River -1.

Nigeria now has 54,587 confirmed cases. 42,627 patients have so far been discharged with 1,048 deaths recorded.

BBNaija's Khloe has confirmed that the viral photo of a naked woman on a plastic surgeon's table is indeed her.

The photo began making the rounds after Khloe began displaying her new butt. Though Khloe was named as the woman undergoing plastic surgery, the face was not visible and some people defended her, saying it might be someone else.

However, Khloe confirmed she's the one when she reacted to a video released by Sandra Johnson, the mother of Instagram content creator, Ademola Adewale aka Adeherself who was arrested by EFCC some months back over alleged internet fraud.

In the video, Adeherself's mother called out those who released the photo of Khloe on the operating table.

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, his wife and their daughters, aged 4 and 2, have tested positive for Coronavirus.

The 48-year-old actor announced this via Instagram.

He shared that he and his wife, Lauren Hashian, and their daughters Jasmine, 4, and Tiana, 2, all have been sick with the virus for the past few weeks, with the actor and his wife being particularly unwell. They are, thankfully, now feeling better, he told fans.

The Jumanji star said: "I wanted to give you guys a little helpful update on things that have been going on on my end for the past two-and-a-half to three weeks now.

"So the update is this: my wife Lauren as well as my two baby girls and myself, we have all tested positive for COVID-19.

"I could tell you that this has been one of the most challenging and difficult things we have ever had to endure as a family, and for me, too, personally as well. And I've gone through some doozies in the past."

He added that, "Testing positive for COVID-19 is much different than overcoming nasty injuries, or being evicted, or even being broke, which I have been more than a few times."

He explained that the reason why contracting the virus is different "is because my No.1 priority is to always protect my family. And protect my children, my loved ones."


Johnson said that he and his family contracted the virus from family friends, who he said are "devastated" that they unwittingly spread the virus.

"I wish it was only me who tested positive, but it wasn't, it was my entire family, so this one was a real kick in the gut. But I am happy to tell you guys that we as a family are good. We're on the other end of it, we're on the other side. We're no longer contagious, and we are — thank God — we are healthy."

He urged his fans to exercise extreme caution when interacting with others to prevent the spread of COVID-19. He also adviced people to boost their immune system.

Oxford University's application to stop a N10 million lawsuit filed against it by a Nigerian lawyer identified as Ogedi Ogu, has been struck out by Lagos state high court in Igbosere.

Ogu had filed the lawsuit against the UK university over the wrong definition of the words “mortgagee” and “mortgagor”, which he relied up to offer legal advice to a professional colleague.

The lawyer who maintained that the dictionary’s definitions of “mortgagee’’ as the borrower in a mortgage transaction; and “mortgagor’’ as the lender were wrong, said his professional colleague pointed out that the words were wrongly defined.

Ogu averred that this caused him a huge embarassment as all his professional colleagues stopped seeking legal advice from him, hence his claim to N10 million in damages.

However the defence counsel, Mrs Funke Adekoya (SAN) asked the court to strike out the lawsuit as "incompetent" because the lawyer did not comply with Section 97 of the Sheriff and Civil Process Act in issuing and serving his writ of summons.

Justice I.O. Harrison who upheld the SAN’s submission that Oxford University Press was not a juristic entity and struck out its name from the suit, also pointed out that the the writ was validly issued and service was lawful and regular.

The judge said;

“The court finds that not being a juristic person, the 2nd defendant can’t be sued and since they are a department of the 1st defendant, whatever affects the 1st defendant will naturally affect and bind on their departments.

“The notice of preliminary objection succeeds partially.”

Rebekah Vardy has reportedly filed legal papers to drag Coleen Rooney to court 'immediately' amid their ongoing feud.



The shocking move comes after Rebekah came to the conclusion that Coleen, 34, is purposefully 'dragging her heels' and wants her to "put up or shut up" in their legal battle.



According to The Sun, the session, which will be held later this year, will determine whether the wife of footballer Jamie Vardy was 'libelled' when Coleen accused her Instagram account of leaking stories to the press.



A source told The Sun: 'Things have been rumbling on for ages, and costs ­spiralling too.



'This will mean that a judge can actually get to the crux of the case — and make those involved put up or shut up. It should mean things can finally get moving and dealt with quickly.



'This is a shot across the bows. It effectively says, "Come on, stop mucking about, let’s get on with this".'



The insider added the move would not be want Coleen would have wanted as it puts her on the 'back foot'.



The publication states Rebekah took the decision as Coleen has so far failed to bring forward a defence to court, with her legal team apparently requesting more time to build a case.



They added that if a judge finds that Coleen was directly blaming Rebekah for selling the stories, then she will have to head to court and 'prove' her claims and 'back it up' with 'evidence'



The mother of five is suing Coleen Rooney for libel over their online fallout.



The former friends have been at loggerheads since Coleen, the wife of former England striker Wayne, accused Rebekah - who is married to Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy of 'selling stories' about her private life to The Sun publication in 2019, a claim Rebekah vehemently denies.

US House Speaker, Nancy Pelosi, has stated that she doesn't believe there should be any presidential election debates between US President Donald Trump and Joe Biden because she believes Trump "will probably act in a way that is beneath the dignity of the presidency."

"Don't tell anyone I told you this—" Pelosi said before a room of reporters and TV cameras during an on-the-record news conference on Thursday August 27.

"[but] I don't think there should be any debates."

"I don't think there should be any debates. I wouldn't legitimize a conversation with him, nor a debate in terms of the presidency of the United States.'

'Now, I know that the Biden campaign thinks in a different way about this.".



Ms Pelosi, who has not spoken personally with Mr Trump in more than 10 months — during which time her chamber has impeached him, negotiated trillions of dollars in aid to fight the coronavirus pandemic, and held several high-profile oversight hearings on his administrative actions, said the president's debate performances against Hillary Clinton in 2016 as evidence of his unworthy behaviour.




'What he did in 2016 was disgraceful, stalking Hillary Clinton like that. ... He will probably act in a way that is beneath the dignity of the presidency. He does that every day," Ms Pelosi said

"I think he will also belittle what the debates are supposed to be about. They're not to be about skullduggery on the part of somebody who has no respect for the office he holds — much less the democratic process. Why else would he try to undermine the elections in the manner that he is doing?

Barely three months to the US presidential elections, the US President Donald Trump, has challenged Democratic challenger, Joe Biden, to drug tests before their first electoral debate next month.



Biden, 77, and Mr Trump, 74, will have three debates before the 3 November election.The three presidential debates will take place in Cleveland, Ohio, on 29 September; in Miami, Florida, on 15 October; and Nashville, Tennessee, on 22 October.



Back in 2016, Trump suggested his then-Democratic rival, Hillary Clinton, had been "getting pumped up" before their debates and challenged her to take a drug test ahead of their final live TV encounter.



On Wednesday August 26, Trump made a similar claim, arguing that Mr Biden's debating ability had improved in the final Democratic primaries debate against Bernie Sanders.



Mr Trump said the former US vice-president "wasn't even coherent" during some of the 11 live TV debates he competed in earlier but by the time of the last debate on 15 March, he performed better against Senator Bernie Sanders.



Speaking to the Washington Examiner on Thursday August 27, Trump said; "I don't know how he [Mr Biden] could have been so incompetent in his debate performances and then all of a sudden be OK against Bernie."



He added: "It wasn't that he was Winston Churchill because he wasn't, but it was a normal, boring debate.

"You know, nothing amazing happened. And we are going to call for a drug test because there's no way - you can't do that."



Mr Trump said of the debates: "Well, it is a prizefight. It's no different from the gladiators, except we have to use our brain and our mouth. And our body to stand. I want all standing - they want to sit down."



Trump offered no evidence his rival might be on drugs other than to say: "I'm pretty good at this stuff."

Chelsea legend, Didier Drogba, has been disqualified from contesting in the upcoming elections to be the next president of the Ivory Coast Football Federation (FIF).



Drogba alongside Paul Koffi Kouadio, Diabate and Yacine Idriss Diallo submitted their papers and CV to stand in the polls earlier this month but FIF's Electoral Commission has ruled that the former Chelsea striker did not completely fulfil its list of eligibility criteria.



According to the Electoral commission, Drogba's bid was rejected as two of the names he submitted as his sponsors were ruled not to have the necessary authority to be his sponsors.




Apart from that, Ivorian club African Sport officials and a body representing referees, AMAF-CI, support federation's current 1st vice president Sory Diabate as their nominee, a vital endorsement that would have helped Drogba's presidential ambitions.



FIF's electoral commission also ruled that different officials from the same organization who signed Drogba's electoral papers were not authorised to do so.


The commission also said that Drogba only had the backing of two top-flight Ivorian clubs and not the three that FIF statutes demand.



Paul Koffi Kouadio's application was also rejected leaving Diabate and Yacine Idriss Diallo as the remaining candidates. The commission says Drogba and Kouadio have five days to appeal.



Drogba played more than 100 times for Ivory Coast. During his trophy packed club career, he played for Chelsea, French giants Marseille, Chinese club Shanghai Shenhua as well as Galatasaray in Turkey.

Chelsea have confirmed the signing of Ben Chilwell from Leicester City in a £50m deal.



The England defender, 23, has signed a five-year deal worth up to £190,000-per-week after passing a medical.

MY RESPONSE TO THE ASININE CLAIMS OF DAILY TRUST NEWSPAPER

"The Trust Newspaper, in their column titled, 'FANI-KAYODE'S ATTACK ON DAILY TRUST REPORTER: OUR STAND' has indulged in lies, deceit, double-standards and falsehood and written absolute crap. To put it mildly their claims are not only outrageous but also downright asinine.

The truth is that their reporter was sent to insult me, probably with their support and knowledge, and more likely than not he was paid to do it.

If it is true that he actually asked a question other than the insulting assertion that I attributed to him in my earlier statement they should produce the video clip of those questions.

There were over 30 journalists in the room and none of them can produce a clip of where he asked any questions.

He said only one thing and made only one assertion which was the following: "Well, we do not know who is bankrolling you".

That is all he said and outside of that he said NOTHING. I challenge the Trust to come out with any evidence to the contrary.

As regards their claim that he was physically threatened, again it is a lie from the pit of hell. I told him that if he tried such a thing ever again I would tell him off even harder than I was doing at the time after which he apologised and the matter was closed.

Outside of that I bear him no malice. If anyone approached or threatened him after the press conference as he has claimed it had nothing to do with me or my staff.

I did not send anyone to do so and neither do I believe in or indulge in physical threats or violence. If any of my staff ever did such a thing I would sack him on the spot once I see the evidence.

Given all that I cannot be held responsible for the safety of this rude young man because I do not know what he does or who else he may have insulted, robbed, cheated or offended.

I do not know whether he is a thief, a murderer, a rogue, a dumpster, a Yahoo boy or one of those morally bankrupt and shameful men that sleeps with other peoples wives. I do not know who may be after him if anyone at all and neither do I care. His present or future travails, if any, have absolutely nothing to do with me.

I can only say that I do not wish him any ill and that as far as I am concerned this matter is closed. I reported him to his boss, who I have known for many years and respect, Alhaji Yusuf Kabir, and that was it.

As for the management of Daily Trust Newspaper and its editors you should bury your heads in shame. Not only are you a bunch of liars but you have no decency or self-respect. If you were human beings you would have first asked my side of the story before going to press.

A 16-year-old boy identified as Adeniyi Muhammed has been arrested in Ogun state after being caught with 14 used female panties.



Ogun state police spokesperson, Abimbola Oyeyemi said the suspect was arrested after a resident of Kano Street in the Ayetoro area of the state lodged a complaint over the theft of her panties on Tuesday August 18.



Oyeyemi said;

340 new cases of COVID-19 were recorded in Nigeria on Friday, August 21.



According to the Nigeria Center for Disease Control NCDC, Kaduna recorded 63 new cases which is the highest for the day. Other states with new cases include FCT-51, Plateau-38, Lagos-33, Delta-25, Gombe-21, Adamawa-21, Edo-20, Katsina-17, Akwa Ibom-11, Ekiti-10, Rivers-9, Ondo-5, Ebonyi-4, Cross River-3, Ogun-3, Sokoto-2, Imo-2 and Nasarawa-2



Nigeria now has 51,304 confirmed cases.



37,885 patients have been discharged and 996 deaths have been recorded.

Abdulrahman Bashir, the Chief Executive Officer of Rahamaniyya Oil and Gas Limited, has denied reports of being jailed in the United Kingdom.



Premiumtimes had on Wednesday, August 19, reported that Justice Butcher of England and Wales High Court had handed a 10-year sentence on the Nigerian oil mogul after he was found guilty of breaching multiple orders of the court in a pending suit instituted by Sahara Energy Resources Ltd.



Bashir has released a statement denying the report. He also released photos of him visiting Sahara Energy on Thursday, August 20.




In the statement signed by his legal adviser, Dada Awosika, Bashir said he is committed to the service agreement between his firm and Sahara Energy over the buying and selling of 15,000MT Gasoil deal between the two firms in 2018.


Responding to the report that he had defaulted in the agreement and sentenced by a London Court, Bashir clarified that an agreement was reached between Ultimate Oil & Gas, Sahara Energy & Rahamaniyya Oil & Gas on a payment plan for the balance of cargo dues owed to Sahara Energy to be effected between Dec 2019 and 31 Jun 2020.



The oil and gas businessman explained that as part of the agreement, Sahara would relinquish claim over cargo return while Rahamaniyya would withdraw proceedings against Sahara in a Nigerian court. He stated that on June 5, 2020 a revised payment agreement was concluded by all parties and is expected to be completed latest by Feb 2021.



According to the statement, the report about the London court ruling came to the two businessmen as a surprise and informed why both of them met at Sahara Energy office in Abuja to prove that their relationship was intact.



“In the above mentioned case, we wish to clarify that such claims are false, harmful and misleading, as both firms mate today at Sahara Energy Corporate office in Abuja to strengthen their mutual business relationships as attached photographs.

Finally, we wish to state that the relationship between the firms remain cordial and we are up to date with our contractual business agreement. Bashir is a law abiding citizen who remains free based out of his home in Abuja, Nigeria.”the statement read

Nollywood filmmaker, Tchidi Chikere has been dragged into an exchange with a follower over his comment about bottles used in selling groundnuts in the country.



Chikere who shared a photo of some unidentified persons arranging some used bottles on the floor, stated that they are bottles used in selling groundnuts across the country and they are picked from garbage heap.



However after being accused of "complaining about citizens trying to make ends meet in a legit way", the filmmaker fired back by saying that the bottles picked from dustbin heap are not recycled but rinsed.

Big Brother Naija Lockdown housemates and lovers, Vee and Neo are currently trending on Twitter over a private discussion they just had in the Big Brother House.



The pair were in the kitchen cooking when Neo made a pregnancy gesture to which Vee then threatened to f**k him up and told him to be scared instead. But an unbothered Neo played down any fears before Vee replied to him, saying: "It would come by tomorrow.'



When Neo said to her that she probably just miscalculated, a visibly worried Vee disagreed and noted that she's been in the Big Brother House for a month and a day.

The Nigerian Bar Association has withdrawn its invitation to Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai as one of the speakers in its forthcoming conference.



The announcement was made via the association's Twitter handle, days after some lawyers protested against the inclusion of the Kaduna state Governor in NBA's speakers' list.



Recall that a lawyer, Usani Odum spearheaded the online petition to stop the governor from attending the Annual General Conference and it has garnered over 3,000 signatures.



In a seperate letter titled ‘Request to Withdraw the Offer of Platform at the 2020 Annual General Conference of the NBA to Mallam Nasir el-Rufai’ and signed by Silas Onu and Auta Nyada, 10 allegations against el-Rufai and his son Bello were listed. The allegations bordered on his alleged poor human rights record and inability to stop the killings in the state he governs, particularly in southern Kaduna.



The tweet which confirmed withdrawal of the invitation to Governor El-Rufai read;



“The National Executive Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association at its ongoing meeting resolves that the invitation to the Kaduna State Governor, H.E. Nasir El-Rufai by the 2020 Annual General Conference Planning committee be withdrawn and decision communicated to the Governor.”

The Los Angeles County district attorney’s office has revealed they are reviewing a potential charge of felony assault with a firearm in a case in which rapper Megan Thee Stallion was shot.



The investigation involves Canadian rapper Tory Lanez who is the suspect in the case.



Prosecutors said on Wednesday, August 19, that they were reviewing the case and had asked the Los Angeles Police Department to further investigate the incident.



This comes shortly after Megan Thee Stallion shared graphic photos of the injuries she sustained after she was allegedly shot by Tory Lanez on July 12.








The 'Savage' rapper was shot in the feet twice during an argument as she and her best friend Kelsey Nicole attempted to get out of Tory Lanez' SUV following a fight at a house party in the Hollywood Hills last month.



When police responded to reports of gunfire in the area, they stopped the SUV, which was being driven by Tory Lanez with Megan and her best friend Kelsey Nicole in the car.
