Annettevoke: A student came to Canada in September 2024 and has 5 job offers in care giving jobs pay over 20 CAD after 3 weeks in Canada. there are jobs depending on the kind of job you are looking for and how smart you are. This is very wrong information that is leading many Nigerian students to become stranded in Canada, as many students are struggling to find jobs. Many have been without a job for 9 to 12 months. Or how can you do 5 jobs with the 20 hours max allowed for students? It’s just impossible to work and pay those crazy tuition fees along with your rent. I see many students now declaring asylum because they are stranded due to financial difficulties, based on misleading and trashy information about working and studying in Canada ,please plan how you will pay your fees or you will be stranded in canada even resident and citizen are struggling for jobs now and study in canada no longer gurantee PR! |

The big engineer (@ednut1)in canada you're asking will be better able to answer your questions about PR, citizenship, and jobs in Canada and not study matter Yes, as of today, if your wife gets admission to study for a master's program more than 16 months in durationv at a Canadian university, you can apply for a spousal open work permit (SOWP). |

Good luck to everybody waiting for ircc responds! |

Larryjam: Bro, the asylum claim isn't related to the refusal. First, Canada is actively working to reduce the number of temporary residents. Second, based on my experience with applications, the gap between his opening and closing balance raises questions. If he can't explain how he accumulated those funds, it might be assumed that the money was simply deposited for travel purposes. Also, did he provide a convincing reason for visiting Canada? And what were his home ties? I'm not advocating for false asylum claims; I'm just saying that linking his refusal to that claim isn’t entirely accurate. Just my two cents though I dnt like discussion asylum issue but you Saying asylum claims are not related to the current high refusal rates shows a lack of understanding of how visa systems work. Countries like Canada, usa actively monitor and adjust their immigration policies based on the behavior of previous applicants. If there’s an increase in visa misuse—and current IRCC data shows a 700% increase in asylum applicants from Nigerians, among other countries like India—authorities become more cautious, making it harder even for genuine applicants to get approved. The link between abuse and higher refusal rates is well-documented, so it can't be ignored in this context. Also, check the current rate of student visa rejections compared to last year. So you think an "alarming trend"as stated by the minister will be ignored with it security implications!

The challenge now is that, employment letter is to be uploaded in the document section. How do I go about this? Do they expect a homemaker to be employed? Since it is another name for housewife If your wife has no family in Canada as a PR or citizen and doesn't have a good travel history, it's better to apply for a UK tourist visa. The chances are higher because Canada is no longer favoring new travelers on tourist visas and no let any visa agent deceive you it not about how strong ur many document or pof..canada no send new traveller again!! |

Yes, currently IRCC favors family visits for families of PRs and citizens, but a person with a good travel history can still apply as a tourist. In my opinion, however, it is not a good time now for a first-timer with no strong travel history or family in Canada to apply for a Canadian tourist visa! |

Ibehchizzy: Canada is overrated Yes, Canada is overrated because it was rated by you and many fake agents as a paradise! However, Canada is facing its own challenges like any other country, such as unemployment, housing problems, and over-immigration. If you are coming to Canada, please lower your expectations and face reality, as many students are stranded and facing financial difficulties because the initial mentality of working in Canada to pay those crazy high tuition fees is just impossible. Thinking that studying in Canada will automatically lead to permanent residency is not realistic or arriving canada as visit visa to get residency,. This way, you will not overrate it, because Canadians never overrate Canada; it is you who is doing it, selling your property to venture into the unknown. |

@kurukuru @Bobomaigida @Duchess102 @affoncad @Ashirioluwa @uchennay When your GCMS notes say "Eligibility: Recommend Interview," it means a visa officer suggests you might need an interview to clarify your application. This isn't a final decision. A senior officer will review it and either schedule the interview or decide it's unnecessary and proceed with your application. Often, senior officers will make a decision without an interview based on their experience and the information available. |

Deering1008: Good evening gurus in the house, my brother’s application to Canada was refused last week. Refusal letter states he wasn’t honest with his answer because he didn’t declare previous refusal to other countries. He was denied visa to the USA before but we forgot to include it in his Canada application. My question now is, can we appeal and explain it was an error on our path? Does anyone know how to start appeal on irrc website? In this situation, you cannot directly appeal a visa refusal to Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). However, you have a couple of options: 1)Request a Reconsideration: Write a letter to the visa office explaining that you accidentally left out the previous visa refusal. Include details and any supporting documents. While this may not always change the decision, it's worth a try.
2) but your best option is to Submit a New Application: You can apply again. In the new application, include all relevant information, including the previous U.S. visa refusal, and attach a letter to explain the earlier mistake . |

Chibudollar: same agent did it for some mutual friend. And he's already in Canada So, this is your evidence that the agent paid a visa fee because he applied in the past for ur mutual friend during a time when Canada visas were more readily granted due to the special wavier then. However, this cannot be compared to now when the rejection rate is extremely high. Please, that is not evidence; ask for the applicant portal instead, because even now, many agents are avoiding Canada visit visa applications due to massive rejections. |

I suspect the agent might be hiding something from you because the majority of applicants who applied since october/november last year for canada visit visa have already received a response from IRCC, and most were refused, especially first-time applicants with no travel history or family in Canada. If you have your biometric paper with you, I would advise you to apply for GCMS notes, as you can do that without the agent, and you will see the actual status of your application. 1. I submitted my application for visit visa this week and by the news that came up yesterday that the visit visa to work policy has been cancelled on 28th August but they will continue to process application received before that date.
2. Jeboy: Hello @debbie
Does this applies to visitors applying for LMIA work permit alone or including SOWP? This does not affect the SOWP applicant for an open work permit, while the LMIA is for a closed work permit. However, the path to PR will be harder, so students need to plan ahead, as many students now risk deportation with their PGWPs having ended or about to end without obtaining PR. The Canadian government wants to reduce foreign workers and PR applicants due to the current job and accommodation problems facing it own citizen, which are starting to affect the crime rate in Canada. The government needs to act fast, as it risks losing the election next year! |

CsRockefeller: Wow!! Nice to join here. Read a few pages and I love the contributions from one particular handle (can't remember your handle right now).
I have so many questions. So many questions. And so many questions. However, I'll start with the ones important to my survival.
I've been on this journey for some time (3 years). Initially planned it with a lady I met here on NL, before she had other plans. I'm a student, though in my early 30s, but that's not a bother.
First question - How easy is it to get a citizenship by marriage? In order words, are the indigenes (Blacks and White) open to relationships with Nigerians? I pray God shouldn't bring a Nigerian lady near me ever!!
Secondly, I'm into Tech/I.T and I'm also very physical (strength dey body to do physical work), I drive too by the way. I'm aware I can't work more than 24hrs a week, does that include those sides gigs and online jobs?
Nice to be part of this community. By God's grace, I'd be in Niagara soon. I advise you to start looking for ways to fund your education because depending solely on working in Canada to pay your tuition fees is nearly impossible. Many international students are stressed and depressed due to financial difficulties. Regarding marriage, please forget the mentality of marrying a woman just to get documents—it is very different in Canada, and it may even land you in trouble. Canada is not like the USA. Focus on your study route and start planning for a possible PR route after you finish your studies because Canada is changing fast. Even citizens and residents are facing challenges. The government will do everything it takes to reduce immigration as the election approaches! |

JIREN01: Hi everyone, I have a question; I guess our bosses @salford, @megastu, @ednut, among others will be able to draw from their experiences and share helpful insights. So I was on a call with a friend who works as a Senior Business Analyst for a Big Pharma, and we were discussing about how attainable a salary threshold of 200kcad per annum is. I even whimsically chipped in the case of a family friend who works as a Director of Strategy for PWC and how I’m certain she earns way more than that. I was shocked when my statement was returned with a hysterical laughter and how that threshold is almost a pipe dream in Canada. Bottom line is he claimed people who earn that in Canada can be literally counted with your fingers and how he has never met anyone who earns that high in his 10-year career.
I’d like to ask if what he said is true; how attainable is the 200k salary threshold? All comments are welcome. Lower ur expecting of canada and face current reality so u not disappointed becos Earning 200k CAD annually in Canada is possible but extremely rare, mostly seen in senior roles in industries like tech, finance, or executive leadership. While it's not impossible, your friend is right that it’s highly uncommon for most professionals. With less than 11% of Canadian residents earning above 100k per year, many people in canada are currently facing difficulties securing even minimum-wage jobs. The government's situation is critical, with recent announcements about reducing temporary workers and potential reforms to PR due to the harsh realities of poorly planned immigration and economic pressures! |
