25th hour 8/10 What would you do if you had just 24 hours of freedom left? I pray none of us have any reason to find out. Well, this movie shows us what Monty Brogan played by Edward Norton(one of the GOATs) does with his last 24 hours of freedom. This movie shows a man struggle with thoughts of how he could have avoided his misfortune, how things could have been better, the things that led his predicament while also trying to make things right by everyone the best way he could. With Edward Norton in it, you can guess the acting to be great and you’d be right. Highly recommended.

THE HATEFUL EIGHT 7.5/10 This is a typical Quentin Tarantino movie and those of us who are familiar with his works would know that he likes his movies with long conversations and slow build ups. This hateful eight is not an exception. This movie is set in the “old America” when America still had a bit of Babarism as it’s usually portrayed in Western movies(I don’t know how accurate these movies are). The hateful eight follows the story of a bounty hunter who catches a wanted murderer and has to transport her to the town where she would be hanged. A very serious snow storm happens on the way which leads to him coming across two men who became stranded due to the storm. He had to help these men by accommodating them in his private carriage. The storm eventually forces them to take accommodation in an inn and things went berserk from there. As to be expected from a Tarantino movie, there’s sort of a flashback(not exactly a flashback Per se, but I can’t find the exact word to use) moment in the movie and this moment makes certain things clearer to the viewers. Tarantino always seems to use this technique. The movie stars Samuel L Jackson, Tim Roth(who I thought was trying to act like Christopher Waltz from Django unchained), Jennifer Jason Leigh, Kurt Russel and a host of other actors. The acting was very good and the conversations funny (I don’t know why I find conversations from western movies very funny. The accent used are always amusing to me even when the actors are not saying anything particularly funny). This movie is not for everyone. If you like movies with long conversations and a slow build up, then this is a movie I would recommend to you. PS:I have realized that the settings of Quentin Terantino movies are usually within short time spans. A day or two or a week. 1 Like

CREED III 9/10 This is the third installment of the creed series and by far the best. This is one of the few movies that leaves scenes replaying in your head after watching it. The movie certainly was worth the wait and the ticket price. This installment takes a slightly different path from previous ones as creed is now retired and into promotion and management. Things takes a quick turn when a very good friend who’s also a boxer and had taken a fall for creed, a fall which led to him being arrested for 18 years returns from jail with a hunger for glory. One thing leads to another and Creed has to return from retirement and fight his friend to retain his glory. This very good friend of creed was played by Jonathan Majors. I have heard and read about him being hyped for his “great acting ability”, but I wasn’t really sold on him. This movie changed my mind. Jonathan Majors is one of the reasons I rated this movie this high. That guy overplayed his role. It’s not often that you look forward to a scene with a particular actor just to see him/her act, but Jonathan had that effect on many viewers. He was brilliant with his role. The movie also stars Michael B Jordan who plays Creed, Thessa Thompson and that cute little girl whose name I don’t know. We get to see the return of Drago as well. The acting was great all round, but Jonathan takes the best actor medal in this one. Another aspect of this movie that I think really deserves credit is the direction of the fighting scenes. They were all simply magnificent👌🏾. It made me pick serious interest for the sport and I think I’m going to become a fan henceforth(yes, these scenes can have that effect on you). Michael B Jordan said there would be a 4th installment, but I feel this is a very befitting end to the creed series. There’s no need ruin it by making too many movies out of it. I guess only time will tell if my feelings are wrong. Like the ratings suggests, this is a very good movie and worth a view at the cinema. Highly recommended! 4 Likes 2 Shares

Taken 1 9/10 Are you looking for an action movie with bits of thriller infused in it, without it being unnecessarily long and also very well paced? Well, TAKEN is one of those movies. Taken tells the story of an ex secret service agent whose daughter was kidnapped by human trafficking syndicates and therefore has to do all he can to rescue her. This storyline probably sounds generic to most of us being movie lovers and all, and it is really is as stories similar to this has been used over and over again by the movie industry. But the features I stated in the first paragraph makes this one different. This movie keeps viewers at the edge of their seat and on their seat throughout its duration as it’s one of those movies you just can help but finish in one sitting. I guess most of us are familiar with this iconic line “I will find you and kill you”. Well, this line is gotten from this movie and the delivery of it makes it even more iconic. The movie stars Liam Neeson as the ex service agent and whose portrayal of a man with a very calm demeanor, but with the ability of being competently dangerous was top notch. He totally bodied the role. It also stars Maggie Grace who I didn’t recognize facially at first but whose sobbing I immediately thought familiar from the series “lost”. And I was right😌. I’m not familiar with the other casts, but they played their respective roles very well. This a movie you should see if you haven’t.

There was nothing like rigging on the side of LP party, bros. You can only say that there might be some form of voters intimidation by LP supporters to supporters of other party. And this was even small scale and was carried out by supporters of other parties. |

GloriousGbola:Obaseki was not a politician and I don’t think he is one even now. Obaseki was in the private sector before he became governor. He never held any public/political office before he became governor. He was not even a member of any political party. The “political magic” he seemed to have performed against Oshiomole was due to the mindset of the Edo people and the influence of Philip Shuaib. |

Brotherhood 8/10 Wow! Wow! Wow! I love the direction Nollywood is taking. If we continue on this path, I believe that soon, we’ll be compared positively to Hollywood. This movie follows the story of two brothers on opposite sides of that law. One, an upright and competent officer of the law, the other, a criminal mastermind who involves himself in perpetuating crimes of severe magnitude. How they managed to sort this difference out? You will have to see the movie to find out. With a cast made up of stellar actors like Filarin Falana aka Falz, Tunde Bakare, Sam Dede and a list of other great actors, you’d expect the acting to be great. The talking point of this movie, to me, is not the great storyline. It is instead the cinematography. It should be the best I have seen form Nollywood. The cinematographers and every other person involved in the cinematography did a very good job. The camera work and use of CGI made this movie a visual spectacle. It’s great to see Nollywood investing appropriately in other aspects of movie making apart form storyline. As a Nigerian you should see this so you will be able to appreciate the progress we have made in the movie industry. Foreigners are not left out as this is an opportunity for you to enjoy a good international movie. This is a must watch. 3 Likes 1 Share

The whale 7.5/10 The whale is a sad depiction of a man living out his regrets and mistakes by self harming. He self harms by eating excessively and this obviously takes a severe toll on him as he becomes extremely big and unhealthy. One of his regrets and mistake was his daughter whom he left at a young age. He tries to at least make this right to an extent by trying to reconnect with her. Does he succeed in doing this? Well, you will have to see the movie to find out. One of the strengths of this movie is the ability to pique the curiosity of viewers thereby engaging them fully. This movie made me ask myself questions and sometimes left my mouth ajar in awe. The cast though made up of few actors all did exceptionally well. This is backed up by some award nominations some of them have gotten. Brendan Fraser is the main star of this movie and he gives a performance befitting of a star. He conveyed emotions quite well and was more than convincing with his role as an overweight man. Sadie Sinks, I think did played her role too well. She annoyed me from start to finish(this is not to put a dent on her performance, but to show how well she played her role). But I think she should try out roles different from what she’s currently known for so she doesn’t end up a typecast. Hong Chau and Ty Simpkins did very well too. This movie is a very good one as the rating suggests and one I would recommend. 1 Like 1 Share

DARK OCTOBER 7/10 Dark October covers the story of the popular ALUU 4. A story about the unjust murder of four innocent students of uniport through jungle justice for something they knew nothing of. Although the movie looked like a low budget film(don’t know if this was done on purpose), it’s the best I have seen from Nollywood in terms of depiction of events. The movie had me asking if it’s a recording of the actual events or just acting. The director did a great job in making the scenes seem as real as possible. The crowd coordination was top notch(only those who have seen the movie would understand what I mean). The acting, though from relatively unknown actors was superb. They all did a great job and amazed me with how they conveyed emotions properly. Another thing I really liked about this movie was the realistic depiction of our university system. This movie cannot be talked about without mentioning how great the make up was. It looked so realll(those who have seen the movie would know what I’m talking about). It’s in fact one of the reasons I’m rating it this high. This movie, though very sad is worth a watch. I recommend it.

BABEL 8/10 Babel is a movie comprising four independent stories which becomes linked by a simple gesture of one of the men in the stories. This gesture causes a domino effect between the people in these stories. The aftermath of this leaves a series of adverse situations on the lives of some of the people in these stories while the person who “pushed the first domino” is left barely unscathed. This movie shows how connected we all are and how a simple action or inaction can affect the lives of others without the perpetrator of the action having any idea of what might have happened. The movie stars Brad Pitt, but he doesn’t get much screen time. This wouldn’t matter much though as the story has the ability of fully engrossing the viewers to the point of not paying any mind to that. This is one the best movies I have see and I have seen a lot of good movies. I highly recommend this. 2 Likes

Million Dollar baby 8/10 This movie is the embodiment of the saying “Dreams do come true, but sometimes at a great cost”(don’t know if it’s an actual saying. Just came up with it). This movie is about a lady who aspires to become a professional boxer even when all odds seems to be against her. She doesn’t allow this weigh her down so she keeps on working towards that dream of hers even when it seems to get bleaker by the day. Her dream eventually comes true but at a price. With a cast made up of stellar actors, one would expect the acting to be great and it certainly is. They directors also did a great job in showing the grueling things boxers go through. This made me appreciate boxers more. Highly recommended. 2 Likes

The phantom thread 7.5/10 I was skeptical about seeing this movie at first because it’s tagged as a “romance”. In fact, the only reason I decided to see it was because Daniel Day Lewis starred in it. I know him as a great actor and thought that even if I don’t enjoy the movie, I would at least get to enjoy great acting. And boy am I glad to have taken that decision. This movie isn’t your regular “romance”. The movie at first is made to look like it’s going to be all about a lady trying to get a man to learn to love properly (you know? The usual cliche associated with romance). But it takes an unexpected turn as it progresses. This unexpected turn infused a bit of thriller to the movie thereby making it really good. The acting was top notch. Daniel Day Lewis bodied his role as usual. I’m giving this a 7.5 and not an 8 because I wasn’t satisfied with the way it ended. I would recommend this movie to anybody who is a lover of good movies.

Illusioneffect:I just finished hereditary, and it’s way better than midsommar. Hereditary, at least has elements of horror and a story in it. A story though not easy to understand,(ending especially)!but a story nonetheless. PS: The only reason I think midsommar “enthralling” is because it makes one think that sense would be made, eventually of the whole weirdness which makes you hang on and try to figure it out yourself till the end only to end up disappointed. |

Midsommar 4:/10 A very weird movie that I think its primary aim is showing a culture of the Swedish people. It does this pretty well (don’t know if the depictions are accurate) without following it up with a compelling story to balance things. The movie gives a sense of something better to come, so you hang on, expectantly only to end up disappointed at the end. Everything about this movie is weird and I wouldn’t recommend it. The sex scene is something I have never seen. I have not been able to phantom it till today. I wouldn’t advise anyone to go watch. 1 Like
