In Poland, we are actually seeing people march in the streets to protest against this new agreement, Poles marched under banners that read: “We want sovereignty, not the euro.” They were protesting against the Brussels deal that could see EU countries, including those outside the eurozone, face penalties for breaking tough centralised spending laws. So not only does this new deal not address the fundamental problems that Europe is facing, there is also a tremendous amount of doubt about whether or not it will eventually be approved. Meanwhile, the brutal austerity measures that are being implemented all over Europe are pushing many EU nations into recession. The EU (led by Germany and France) and the IMF have been pushing financially troubled nations all over Europe to make incredibly deep budget cuts. But these very deep budget cuts have had a devastating economic impact. In a recent article, I discussed how brutal austerity measures have already pushed the economy of Greece into a full-blown depression, Just look at what happened to Greece. Greece was forced to raise taxes and implement brutal austerity measures. That caused the economy to slow down and tax revenues to decline and so government debt figures did not improve as much as anticipated. So Greece was forced to implement even more brutal austerity measures. Well, that caused the economy to slow down even more and tax revenues declined again. In Greece this cycle has been repeated several times and now Greece is experiencing a full-blown economic depression. 100,000 businesses have closed and a third of the population is living in poverty. But now Germany and France intend to impose the "Greek solution" on the rest of Europe. Right now, the flow of government money is drying up all over Europe and so is the flow of money from the banks. European banks are shrinking their balance sheets and have dramatically cut back on lending in order to meet new capital requirements that are being imposed upon them. |
In fact, global financial markets seem entirely unimpressed by this recent deal. A recent article by Professor Peter Morici detailed some of the problems with the deal, Investors are rejecting the euro deal, because the agreement does not effectively meet the funding needs of Italy and other Mediterranean governments, address the weak balance sheets of European commercial banks, or fix the underlying structural flaws in the euro architecture. The €440 billion European Financial Stability Facility is providing short-term funding—guaranteed by 17 Eurozone member states as a whole—to tide over the more troubled governments. However, those bailouts impose huge cuts in spending and tax increases. Coupled with austerity plans also adopted by France and other healthier European states, those packages are pushing Europe into a recession that could last several years. What is even worse is that there are signs that this recent deal is already unraveling. Some EU nations have decided that they are not sure that they want to go along with the program. The following comes from a recent article in the Telegraph, Amid fresh warnings that Europe is triggering a 1930s-style global depression, the German chancellor faced open rebellion against the key plank of her Brussels accord. The leaders of Hungary and the Czech Republic told a joint conference in Budapest they were ready to reject the planned treaty changes and implied move towards a centralised tax system. Czech prime minister Petr Necas said he was “convinced that tax harmonisation would not mean anything good for us”. |
-There is a tremendous lack of confidence in the European financial system at this point and this is causing a massive credit crunch -The credit crunch is causing the money supply to drop significantly in almost every nation in the EU -Major banks all over Europe are massively overleveraged and are on the verge of failing This is all so similar to what we saw back during the early 1930s. In fact, things have gotten so bad that prominent world leaders are now using apocalyptic language when describing the situation in Europe. Just check out what the head of the International Monetary Fund, Christine Lagarde, recently said about Europe. Speaking at a State Department conference in Washington D.C. this week, Lagarde made the following very shocking statements, *"The world economic outlook at the moment is not particularly rosy. It is quite gloomy" *"There is no economy in the world, whether low-income countries, emerging markets, middle-income countries or super-advanced economies that will be immune to the crisis that we see not only unfolding but escalating" *"It is not a crisis that will be resolved by one group of countries taking action. It is going to be hopefully resolved by all countries, all regions, all categories of countries actually taking action." *"No country or region is immune. All must take action to boost growth. Work must start in the eurozone countries and must continue relentlessly. The risks of inaction include protectionism, isolation and other elements reminiscent of the 1930s depression." *"This is exactly the description of what happened in the 1930s, and what followed is not something we are looking forward to." But didn't the politicians in Europe recently reach a deal which was supposed to fix all this? Well, unfortunately the deal basically did nothing to fix the underlying financial problems that Europe is facing. |
Financial Panic Sweeps Europe As The Head Of The IMF Warns Of A “1930s Depression” https://endoftheamericandream.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/Financial-Panic-Sweeps-Europe-And-The-Head-Of-The-IMF-Is-Warning-Of-A-1930s-Depression-300x236.gif Are we on the verge of another Great Depression? Christian Lagarde, the head of the IMF, said this week that if dramatic action is not taken immediately we could actually see conditions "reminiscent of the 1930s depression" and that no country on earth "will be immune to the crisis". Right now, financial panic is sweeping across Europe, but most Americans are not too concerned about it because they simply don't understand how important the EU is. The truth is that the EU has a much larger population than the United States does. The EU has an economy that is nearly as large as the economies of the United States and China combined. The EU has more Fortune 500 companies that the United States does, and the banking system of Europe is substantially larger than the banking system of the United States. Anyone out there that believes that a massive financial collapse in Europe would not dramatically affect the rest of the globe is being delusional. The European debt crisis is one of the biggest stories that we have seen in a long, long time and the coming financial meltdown is going to permanently change the global economy. So far, politicians in Europe have held 19 high-level emergency meetings in an attempt to solve this crisis. All of their efforts have failed. Right now, this is the situation in Europe, -Most EU governments are drowning in toxic levels of debt -Bond yields have risen dramatically this year and this has caused borrowing costs for most EU members to soar -In an attempt to get debt under control, governments all over Europe are implementing brutal austerity measures and this is causing European economies to slow down substantially |
Fed Govt moves 4,400 containers out of Lagos ports today By Oluwakemi Dauda The Federal Government begins the decongestion of the nation’s seaports today with the evacuation of 4, 400 overtime cargo (containers) from Lagos ports. Some of the containers have been in the ports for more than two years, and stakeholders believe they are part of the key issues affecting business at ports, as they occupy a lot of space at the affected terminals. The Federal Government has also directed the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) and other agencies at the ports to commence 24 hours operations so that the nation’s seaports would compete favourably with the ports in neighbouring countries and boost revenue. Addressing reporters at Apapa, Lagos yesterday, the Special Adviser to the President on Performance, Monitoring and Evaluation and Chairman, Presidential Committee to Monitor the Ports, Prof Sylvester Monye said the movement of the containers from Apapa and Tin-Can Island ports to Ikorodu bonded terminal is part of President Goodluck Jonathan’s agenda to decongest the ports and make them attractive for business. The ports, the Federal Government insist, are the second largest income earner for the country and need to be repositioned for efficiency, hence the movement of the containers out of the Lagos ports, which Prof. Monye said would take two weeks. http://www.thenationonlineng.net/2011/index.php/news/30061-fed-govt-moves-4-400-containers-out-of-lagos-ports-today.html |

And God's anger was kindled because he went. And the angel of the Lord stood in the way for an adversary against him. Now he was riding upon his ass, and his two servants were with him. And the ass saw the angel of the Lord standing in the way, and his sword drawn in his hand. And the ass turned aside out of the way, and went into the field. And Balaam smote the ass, to turn her into the way. But the angel of the Lord stood in a path of the vineyards, a wall being on this side, and a wall on that side. And when the ass saw the angel of the Lord, she thrust herself unto the wall, and crushed Balaam's foot against the wall. And he smote her again. And the angel of the Lord went further, and stood in a narrow place, where was no way to turn either to the right hand or to the left. And when the ass saw the angel of the Lord, she sat down under Balaam and Balaam's anger was kindled, and he smote the ass with a staff. And the Lord opened the mouth of the ass, and she said unto Balaam, “what have I done unto thee, that thou hast smitten me these three times?” And Balaam said unto the ass, “because thou hast mocked me. I would there were a sword in mine hand, for now would I kill thee”. And the ass said unto Balaam, “am not I thine ass, upon which thou hast ridden ever since I was thine unto this day? Was I ever wont to do so unto thee?” And he said, “nay”. Then the Lord opened the eyes of Balaam, and he saw the angel of the Lord standing in the way, and his sword drawn in his hand: and he bowed down his head, and fell flat on his face. And Balaam returned home and sent forth word to the people of Sodom, saying, “I shall not come to Sodom neither shall I curse king Jona and thine old kings”. And the people of Sodom were sorrowful and they lifted up their voices unto the Lord, saying, “save us from the bondage of king Jona and the old kings for our pain is great”. Whereupon an angel of the Lord appeared unto the people of Sodom and saith: “true the Lord has seen your affliction; true the Lord has seen the iniquities of king Jona and his servants, but he has not granted leave unto Balaam to come and curse king Jona and your other kings for you.” And the people wailed and saith unto the angel: “why would the lord keep us under the yoke of king Jona and the old kings? Why would the Lord not save us from the oppressor? Our torment is great.” And the angel saith unto them: “lo, for fifty-one years the Lord hath given unto thee legs, hands, and voices to rise up against thine oppressors and say nay unto their ways; even Balaam’s ass, which is but an animal, knew not to ask the Lord or foreigners to free it from the yoke of the oppressor. Behold, Balaam’s ass knew the appointed moment to sit, move no more, and say no when the oppressor would ride it to certain death at the blade of my sword. Thus saith the Lord God of Israel to you people of Sodom: because Balaam’s ass, an animal, has been wiser than thee who art people, it shall be appointed unto no foreigner to curse king Jona and the old kings for thee. Only with thine own hands must thou tear their flesh and feed them to the birds of the air; only with thine own legs must thou rise and kick against them; only with thine own voices must thou say nay like Balaam’s ass. Thou must shake off the yoke of thine oppressors and curse them and their servants and their children’s children. For I am the Lord your God and I will not do for thee that which an ass did for itself. My rod and my staff shall not comfort them who willingly spread their backs for iniquitous kings. So let it be written, so let it be done.” |
And it came to pass that even as King Jona and his servants and the old kings feasted and made merry, nights passed and mornings came but life got worse for the people of Sodom. And when a great famine and pestilence came upon the land, the people became agitated and cried up to the Lord: “give us another king.” But the Lord did not answer them. Whereupon the people sought counsel and saith: “for fifty-one years we asked of our kings bread but they gave us stones; for fifty-one years we asked of our kings fish but they gave us serpents. And now king Jona and his servants and all the old kings feast on our back even as great affliction is come upon us. It is meet therefore that we send for Balaam”. And it came to pass that the people of Sodom sent messengers unto Balaam the son of Beor to Pethor, which is by the river of the land of the children of his people, to call him, saying, “Behold, for fifty-one years our kings have given us plagues worse than the afflictions of the land of Egypt. And today, King Jona and all the old kings make merry on our back. Come now therefore, we pray thee, and curse king Jona and all the old kings; for they are too mighty for us. Peradventure we shall prevail, that we may smite king Jona and his servants and the old kings, and that we may drive them out of the land; for it is written that he whom thou blessest is blessed, and he whom thou cursest is cursed.” And Balaam went unto the Lord and saith: “the people of Sodom hath sent unto me, saying, Behold, our kings lay a heavy yoke upon us and they feast even as pestilence is come upon the land. Come now, curse me them; peradventure we shall be able to overcome them, and drive them out”. And God said unto Balaam, “thou shalt not go to Sodom; thou shalt not curse King Jona and the old Kings.” But Balaam rose in the morning, saddled his ass, and went in the direction of the land of Sodom. |
And all the old kings present were greatly pleased with the words of Badamasi the Minnarite who spake for all of them. There was Aremus of the tribe of the merrymakers to the West unto whom it was given to rule the land of Sodom two times; there was Yak the warrior who was sorrowful that the land of Sodom hath a great problem of too little knowledge about how to use too much shekel; there was Shehulem the cattle rearer who saith yes unto every word uttered by his fellow kings; there was Shonekum, also of the tribe of the merrymakers, who sat only on one buttock on his seat near Shehulem the cattle rearer; and there was Buharus, also of the tribe of the cattle rearers, who hath begun to dislike the ways of the old kings but still fellowshipped with them. And the old kings rejoiced and saith with one voice unto King Jona: “give us a great feast on the back of the people of Sodom.” And King Jona’s heart was gladdened by the disposition of the old kings even as there was great rejoicing among his palace servants. And king Jona summoned his servants who came into his presence doing obeisance. There was Orontolum the earth warrior who was also of the tribe of the fishers of fish; there was Reuben the scribe unto whom it was once given to grieve for the people of Sodom who are heavy laden; there was Renokrim, the lad who hath been brought into the palace by Orontolum to show the people the Emperor’s new clothes; and there was Ken the Ogonite who grew in the shadow of a saint. And King Jona saith unto his faithful servants: “lo, I have summoned a great feast of all the old kings who sat on the back of the people of Sodom before me. Go ye now and bring forth musicians who play the horn, flute, zither, lyre, harp and all kinds of music. Bring forth the best robes and put it on my guests; and put rings on their hands and shoes on their feet; and bring hither the fatted calf and kill it; bring forth the best wine from the bridegroom’s storage in the land of Cana; and let us eat and drink and be merry. For it is appointed that after the great feast, the old kings shall grant unto me more years on the back of the people of Sodom and I shall add more food unto the portion of all my servants.” And great indeed was the feast of the new king and the old kings on the back of the people of Sodom. And while he tasted the wine, King Jona commanded Orontolum, Reuben, Renokrim, and Ken to bring the golden and silver vessels so that he and his guests and their wives and their concubines might drink therefrom. And they drank wine and praised the gods of gold, and of silver, of brass, of iron, of wood, and of stone. |
Balaam’s Bottom/Donkey By Pius Adesanmi Columnist: Pius Adesanmi And it came to pass that after the people of Sodom hath shaken off the yoke of the taskmasters who ruleth over them in the name of the great white Queen in the land of the permanent rain, a long line of pestilential kings took dominion over them and visiteth upon them worse plagues than God hath visited on the people of Egypt during the reign of the Pharaohs. And for fifty-one years, the kings of Sodom and their children’s children sat on the back of the people of Sodom. And the new king Jona, who was of the tribe of the fishers of fish, seeing that the back of the people of Sodom was sweeter than honey, summoned all the other kings who hath ruled before him and saith unto them: “lo it has been given unto me to sit on the back of the people of Sodom and rule over them. But seeing that thou all hast been here before me, pray, what must I do to inherit more years on the back of the people?” And all the former kings were greatly pleased that the new king hath sought their wisdom and given them room to retire on the back of the people of Sodom even as they approach the evening of their own years. And Badamasi the Minnarite opened his mouth and saith: “Oh king Jona of the tribe of the fishers of fish, great indeed is thy wisdom for it has been given unto thee to reward the years we spent before thee on the back of this people. It is meet therefore that we call a great feast of kings such as the world hath never seen. And from the land of Aethiopia through the one hundred and twenty-seven provinces of the kingdom of King Ahasuerus even unto India, all the people of the world shall speak of the great feast of the kings of the land of Sodom. And when we hath finished the feast, the time shall be appointed to grant unto thee more years on the throne of Sodom and to make thee a fisher of shekels. |

50 years ago: UN endorses coup against Lumumba https://www.wsws.org/images/2010nov/n22-twih-50yr-300.jpg Patrice Lumumba On November 22, 1960, the United Nations General Assembly voted to recognize the delegation of Congolese President Joseph Kasavubu and military strongman Joseph Mobutu, refusing to sit delegates of the popularly elected government of the deposed Patrice Lumumba. Lumumba’s party had won more seats than any other in the May 1960 Congolese elections, and had therefore been given the right to form the first government after formal independence from Belgium in June. However, the US and Belgium immediately began to maneuver against Lumumba, precipitating the secession of mineral-rich Katanga province, the attempted dismissal of Lumumba by Kasavubu (which technically failed after Lumumba won a parliamentary vote of confidence), and ultimately the September coup organized by army chief of staff Mobutu with CIA backing. Reflecting the combined clout of the US and the former colonial powers, the vote carried by a wide margin, 53 to 24, with 19 abstentions, revealing the UN to be little more than a “thieves’ kitchen,” as Lenin had aptly called its predecessor, the League of Nations. At the time of the UN vote, Lumumba was under house arrest. He escaped on November 27, and attempted to head east to his political stronghold of Stanleyville. |
December 13, 2011 6:40 pm Ghana leads African quest to boost growth By William Wallis in London While much of the world is fighting to avert a fresh downturn, Ghana’s economy has expanded by an estimated record 13.6 per cent this year, placing it among the world’s fastest-growing economies. Nigerian and South African finance ministers have said that Europe’s economic plight threatens to hinder Africa’s recovery. But Ghana’s data reflect positive trends as businesses expand in poorly served African markets, and emerging powers such as China compete with multinationals for the continent’s rich natural resources. African officials are cheered, too, by a certain reversal of roles. After the debt write-offs of the past decade, many countries have relatively healthy balance sheets compared with Europe. Ghana has often led the pack – in winning independence, tumbling into bankruptcy, establishing democracy and now in its potentially transformational economic growth. Last year, the country became one of only a few on the continent to be categorised as lower middle income. This was after the national accounts were re-appraised and annual gross domestic product per capita raised by $500 to $1,300. On top of a record cocoa harvest of more than 1m tonnes, and soaring gold revenues, Ghana began pumping oil for the first time this year. The additional earnings will help to cushion the economy against the kind of past external shocks that sent it reeling when the cost of oil imports rose and gold and cocoa prices fell. The oil, discovered in 2007, has also allowed the government to leverage loans towards building infrastructure to process gas, increase electricity output and lower costs. Almost by default, as a result of its relative political stability, the country is becoming the regional base for business. But Joe Abbey, a former finance minister who runs the Centre for Policy Analysis, an independent Accra-based think-tank, points out that much of the growth has been “jobless”. At least 7 per cent is attributable to the onset of oil production. Increased cocoa production was partly the result of good weather , and more needs to be done to boost productivity. Beyond the jobs it provides, gold mining delivers little to the state – the reason the government has given for raising corporate taxes on miners and imposing a 10 per cent windfall tax. An election year is now approaching. Ghana has undergone three years of austerity and stabilisation following the last round of election spending, which badly hit the budget deficit. Mr Abbey says it would be a tragedy if the same were to happen again, just as interest rates have come down, inflation has been brought under control, and the conditions for investment in productive and labour-intensive sectors are falling into place. |

Americans' Net Worth Plummets as Corporations Stockpile Cash By Derek Kravitz and Dave Carpenter December 10, 2011 "Associated Press" -- WASHINGTON -- Americans' wealth last summer suffered its biggest quarterly loss in more than two years as stocks, pension funds and home values lost value. At the same time, corporations raised their cash stockpiles to record levels. Household net worth fell 4 percent to $57.4 trillion in the July-September quarter, according to a Federal Reserve report released Thursday. It was the sharpest drop since the tumultuous period after the September 2008 bankruptcy of investment bank Lehman Brothers. And it was the second straight quarterly fall. Household wealth, or net worth, is the value of assets like homes, bank accounts and stocks, minus debts like mortgages and credit cards. Lower net worth can hurt the economy. When people feel poorer, they spend less. That slows growth. Businesses typically then cut back on hiring and expansion. Stock market declines, in particular, have held back Americans' quest to recover losses from the 2008 financial meltdown. The Standard & Poor's 500 stock index tumbled about 14 percent in the July-September period, ending a streak of four quarterly increases. The decline was driven by worries about Europe's debt crisis and the U.S. economy. Stocks have rebounded about 9 percent since last quarter ended. But the S&P index is still about 21 percent below its peak of four years ago. "Going forward, you're going to see these ups and downs; the era of volatility is back," said Gregory Daco, principal U.S. economist at IHS Global Insight. "There's greater uncertainty among consumers." The value of Americans' stock portfolios fell 5.2 percent last quarter. T. Rowe Price Associates estimates that two-thirds of that decline has been recouped in the October-December period. Much of that comes from continuing contributions to retirement accounts. Home prices remain under pressure, diminishing home equity. Home equity is the biggest source of wealth for most Americans. Last quarter, home values slipped 0.6 percent. Total values fell to $16.1 trillion, down from nearly $21 trillion in 2007, before the recession began. The average balance in 401(k) plans managed by Fidelity Investments, the largest workplace savings plan provider, dropped nearly 12 percent in the July-September period. Roughly half of U.S. households own stocks or stock mutual funds. Stock portfolios make up about 15 percent of Americans' wealth. At the same time, corporations are amassing record cash stockpiles -- $2.1 trillion at the end of September. Their reluctance to spend more of that money helps explain why job growth remains modest. The unemployment rate fell to 8.6 percent in November, but it's hovered near 9 percent for more than two years. |

The Black Nobility: The Very Early History Through Time http://vaticproject..com/2011/11/black-nobility-very-early-history.html " The Club of Rome is a conspiratorial umbrella organization, a marriage between Anglo-American financiers and the old Black Nobility families of Europe, particularly the so-called "nobility" of London, Venice and Genoa. The key to the successful control of the world is their ability to create and manage savage economic recessions and eventual depressions. The Committee of 300 looks to social convulsions on a global scale, followed by depressions, as a softening-up technique for bigger things to come, as its principal method of creating masses of people all over the world who will become its "welfare" recipients of the future." |
