@sam4777 i really intend to apply for visiting Visa then apply for SOWP in canada all my children are US citizens so no need for them getting visa (na only me remain) ...just wondering if that would be a better choice for me.... How does it look like when arriving at POE then start applying for SOWP ....... can you throw more light on the more documents....i need to be strategic on this mission sam4777: no application apart from PR is more than 2 months while applying in Canada, and POE can be 30 minutes or less |

@kife congratulations ....this was really a long journey... please can you let us know what you did differently that lead to a positive aoutcome ... thanks kife: *****APPROVAL ALERT****** Indeed, what God can not do doesn't exist...
I moved to Canada as an international student in August of 2016. From 2017 till 2021 Feb, I have continued to try to bring my wife to join me, we had applied for:
2 study permits- Refused 3 work permits- Refused
The 6th application I reluctantly submitted as the generic refusals were quite annoying already, but to the glory of God that got approved.
Its been 4 painful years of trying and retrying... Lots of traveling back and forth to Nigeria..
We had concluded plans to relocate to the UK but God came through at the 11.59th hour.
For all those waiting, may your approvals come knocking soon.
If you ever experience delays, please don't give up, get your Gcms, fix their issues and refire, keep refiring...they will eventually approve.
Time line:
NB-Medical was passed in February, though application was refused.
The medical request came even though we had submitted upfront medicals, we raised series of webforms got no response...they just updated to Pass
Goodluck to all the hopefuls
We are waiting for PR next..... |

@Eilenora Nice i must commend you strong woman. .did you go with hubby/or any support system when you had your kids in the US Eilenora: Kids were stamped in till December which is when my passport expires, same as me, so am not sure there's anything to regularize. I am currently trying to apply for an extension of all our study permits, both mine and kids . I am hoping it comes out b4 hubby leaves for Nig so once he shows them at POE, they can give him an extended stay and not stamp him in till Dec as well. Our fingers are crossed as to how long TRV they will give him: 5yrs+ based on a new passport he got that we sent to them via webform and which he submitted today, or till Dec asper date of expiration of my own permit. Even with the December date, they realise my course is for 2yrs, so will that be taken into consideration? I guess at this point we can only speculate, so best to wait and see how it all plays out.
Documents I enclosed with my letter of invitation: Bio data page of my international passport, Evidence of previous visas and stamps in passport, Canadian Temporary Resident Visa (TRV), Evidence of commencement of process to renew my international passport as a prerequisite to applying for an extension of my study permit, A copy of the children’s USA international passports + birth certf, Unconditional letter of acceptance Letter of enrolment + school timetable, Study permits both for myself and the children, Evidence of payment of tuition for both 1st and 2nd term + account summary from Fanshawe web advisor, Marriage certificate + name change documents, Evidence of daughter’s enrolment in school, Family pictures (several pics pasted on a word document telling our story from how we met, when we got married, when kids came, the Canadian journey, us at the airport saying goodbyes, touch down in Canada, vals day celebrated in diaspora, daughter in school, screen munch of video calls, Evidence of accommodation in Canada
Documents hubby attached to his application letter: Resume Birth certf Certifications NYSC IQAS Passport bio data page Employment documents: contract, promotion letters, pay slips, letter of introduction Registration documents in respect of businesses he owns Statement of account Pension statement Extract from PENCOM act (Clause 16(5) highlighted in felt pen) Tenancy Agreement in Nigeria Evidence of ownership of car Reference letters Evidence of ownership of landed property Pics of aged parents (social ties) Medical document showing Parents have pre-existing health conditions, (stronger social ties), Police character certf
Already posted emotional follow up email sent to them in a previous post. Hubby also renewed his intl passport and forwarded to them via webform a week ago I believe.
Applied for Gcms note 3 days to the request for PPR
Hope this helps?
All the best to everyone and thank you!!!!!!! Every single thing I know about SOWP was from reading from Page 1 of this thread at least 2-3x. I left nothing to chance. There was too mch as stake. Indeed, "it is not good for man to be alone" and God knows that. As they say in my place, "ire naa a kari gbogbo wa" meaning, the testimony will flow round to all of us IJN. |

@abbyode when you talk about legally speaking, its on the IRCC website that even American Citizen needs to do medicals if they intend to stay more than 6 months.... abbyode: Your kids sure don't need visas but you need to apply for visitor records for them so they don't go out of status. Legally speaking, they can't stay more than 6 months with their US passports except you got visitor record for them at the point of entry. Please take note. |

@residentourist am similar to your case just that my 3 children are all US citizens ......how will you handle the fact that even us citizen planning to stay in canada for more than 6 months will have to do medicals ...Did your children(US citizen ) do medicals? am just confused which route to use SOWP or Visiting visa Residentourist: Good morning people!!!
I recently received a positive response on my student visa application. Now I want my husband and first child to apply for Canadian visa (my other 2 kids are US citizens and do not require a visa) the challenge is most people here are applying for work permit for their spouse but what I actually want is a visitors visa because my husband cannot afford to quit his job anytime soon
I'd appreciate if someone could point me in the right direction of what steps to take. Ie should he apply on his own (considering that he is sponsoring me) or should I make the application under my gckey?
Please has anyone been in this situation and how did you tackle it or are you tackling it?
I'd appreciate a response. Thank you. |

@beautifulsoul21 i advise you that there isn't any short cut to this...its a process just follow it...just apply for your GCMS notes which takes about 30days...while that is in processing start to read at least from part 18 and 19.....even before the notes are out you would have had a clue of what went wrong in your application... this is just a delay not a denial Beautifulsoul21: Hello everyone. Please can I be added to a Canadian study visa WhatsApp group? I was denied study visa recently and so I need guidance on the next step to take from here. I was advised to join groups like this. |

nice one concise and detailed.. guess this is the period of landing gist as most schools commence resumption for fall... thank you @Backcheck for thanks for taking out time to comprehend this write up..... Waiting more PPR and Landing gist. Backcheck: Well
Well well well! As promised here is my landing gist.
Set out from home at about 2pm and got to the airport by past 3. We entered into the terminal and they were saying only I and another 1 person can enter. “”They need you to drop something’. Once we entered the airport, we were directed to customs immediately where they wanted to search my bags and was asking whats inside, I just said books and clothes, squeezed 1k and they said bye bye. (Couldn’t allow them start scattering). Once I was done, I was directly to the agricultural part, to declare what I have and they open your bags, they give you a card and you pay 2k ( I didn’t declare shit, told them theres no food in it, you can just slip away from here) after that you’re done with that.
Then I went straight to my airline, klm started checking in by 4pm, got there early so I was like number 3 on the line. While my bag was being weighed, excess luggage (33kg and 27kg) hand luggage was 9kg and 7kg, the guy just told us to go and reduce or pay 203 USD, my sister the expert just told me not to worry, and we stood one side, before 10mins some guys approached in uniform, the baggage guys, and started doing all the help and asking how much we want to pay, we drag drag drag, and agreed 30k. They then helped me repack the boxes, to a max of 27kg each and my hand luggage was 12kg and 8kg. While all this baggage wahala was on going, i went to submit documents and passport where the guy asked for just Enrollment letter, fee receipt, admission letter and negative covid result. He took it and asked another guy and gave me back, scanned my passport and that was all. No sending to someone via whatsapp or all that.
After my bags were done, i just took them to the counter where they were tagged and gave me my boarding pass and that was it with bags. In the rush and bag repacking, I didn’t lock/wrap my ghana must go before sending in. Chai I wan die! But thank God it was fully intact.
Proceeded to the departure gate, bided family good bye and I entered.
First encounter is a single immigration officer where you pass your passport and pass, (na where roger start be this) cus they will ask and its better to give. 500 each for anyone way hail me.
Then the other immigration where you would scan your passport, fingerprints, take pictures, check your visa, and roger. If you dont have anything to give, sha make sure you check that they stamp your passport with exit stamp.
You then go to body scan, take off your belts shoes, laptop and all that, no problems here.
Then to customs again (final place) : This place they would ask how much you are carrying and declaring, if you have over 10k USD dont just bother declaring it, nothing go happen, if you declare be like say charges dey oo. This is in Nigeria ooo. When you get to CA please and please, declare it.
After this I proceeded to the boarding gate! and bye bye to Nigeria!!
Landed in Amsterdam, Netherlands at about 5:30 WAT, and proceeded to arrival hall, where there was a screen displaying all flights and gate to be at, found my gate and kept walking there, there are signs everywhere, so no need to even ask anyone anything, this airport is damn large! The walk no be small. This is where I waited till my flight time, easy peasy. Made a friend so had him watch over my bags while I went to freshen up a bit and vice varsa. I sha got something light to each, cus 6 hours wait no be small, this is where the conversation syndrome got me, got a sandwich, candy and water for 12euros thats 6k+ (Pic 1) I just dey shake head. Ate, and waited for time to board. This was it for Netherlands.
Flight to Calgary
What a long flight, leaving Netherlands by 12:30pm and flying 8+ hours only to get to Calgary 1:30pm, omo! The time difference. This flight time didn’t make it interesting as I couldn’t open window to enjoy the view, hot sun and reflection. On this flight food was a bit fair.
When we got to calgary, proceeded into the airport, first point of contact is to self checkin, this is where you declare your stuffs, food, excess cash, sickness, this and that, and how long you will spend in Canada, I enter 730 days, as per 2years, then the machine gives you a ticket. I then proceeded to CBSA, the guy asked to pass my ticket and passport, which I did, asked what brings me to canada, asked what course. Asked how much I had with me, since I already declared above 10k CAD. He then asked for my arrive Can, Study Authorizations letter (This is what we’ve been calling LOi) and covid test. He asked if i have any documents to support my studies i then passed my Admission letter, enrollment letter, tuition receipt, statement of Account, asin I just dey give am. He asked what food stuffs I brought, and I passed a printed copy of food stuffs I brought, I typed it already. He had to smile and said ‘I like you, you’re very much prepared’ I said thanks. I honestly almost said, thank God for Nairaland. He gave me some Covid forms and returned my passport. I then proceeded to pick up my bags. After picking up, then I was directed to where they issue study permit gaan gaan. The same documents asked for by the CBSA officer is what you give them here, and they put in a file, then tell you to go and sit down. They call your name when its your turn. After about 20mins I was called, you go there with your luggage, based on your declaration, the food stuffs are checked, just make sure to pack food in one luggage so they dont unpack all your luggage. After this, the officer him self filled a form for me, for the amount declared and gave me a copy. When I was done, he told me to meet his colleague, that one has already printed my permit, and stapled to my passport so when I got there, she just opened and read the conditions for me. No stress at all!!
Ps: omo this CBSA female officers must have been handpicked, cus choi!! them no lack at all lmao.
I was then directed to where covid testing is done. Did my test, and headed out to the parking bay to wait for my hotel shuttle.
Ps: To avoid delay prebook your covid test, when you book online you get a booking Code, with this code, you will already skip alot of waiting time.
I thank God for journey mercies!! Make I no lie, Canada na better place! Nice people everywhere, from security to driver to passerby, to hotel boys ands staffs. |

@Kkddyit .....i will weigh my options best suitable for my circumstance yea your right....sent you a DM pls reply Kkddyit: Actually no two applications are the same. I was advised not to even apply together with my spouse and kids and some said I should just apply for visit for my spouse. At the end, I weighed my options and I didn't want the delay that comes with trying to bring my family to join me after landing in Canada. I ended up applying for SOWP for my spouse and visit for the kids. And to God's glory we were all approved. The good side of this approach is that, it's a lot easier if you are going for a PhD program that is fully or partially funded. In my case, I was partially funded and I have some funds to show too. You must also be able to logically convince the VO as to why you must go with the entire family vis-a-vis your home ties.
So you must strategically weigh your options and your circumstances before making that decision.
Best of luck everyone. |

@Anon yea your correct but this oyinbo people can live together for years (as Common law partners) and then officially marry ....So its all lies on LOE....am still skeptical of the % approval rate for Sowp...than the spouse just applying for visiting and then get SOWP later when he/she arrives Anon123: Thanks for the correction on the first paragraph. Wasnt so sure..
Second paragraphy, we are saying the same thing.
4th Paragraph might not work cos the spouse just got an SP bearly a week ago. Lemmme burst your burble, my guy who is in Canada now, married his wife in september 2020, got his SP in december 2020, travelled to canada in january 2021, applied for a sowp or the wife in March. In July, it was denied based on hometies, we applied for notes and just last week the notes dropped.
We open note, the Vo said this "PA got married in sept, hubby got sp in Dec.. no history of relationship" in essence the vo is saying no proof to show both applicant and husband did the normal love story before getting married.
My point with this is if the spouse got an SP today, do not rush to apply for sowp and claim you are missing your hubby or the workload is much.. cos they check these things. They no send!! which is why i said Timing is vital |

@Lianna2020...when you say 50/50..... i just found out this from a masters student at UNI of BC who is a friend.. she is a Mastercard scholarship student (1st class). During her application for student visa Mastercard gave them a dedicated Immigration assistant to help them have a smooth application and transition. The immigration Assistant told/advised her to apply for SP and avoid applying for SOWP for her husband. she should just apply for the visiting visa for the husband. That this increases his chances of getting approval via Visiting visa than SOWP. Which they did and they both where issued the visa. The immigration assistant advised them once the husband gets into the country he can apply for SOWP easily by driving or getting to the immigration border and get his SOWP ( that it is his entitlement to get SOWP once he is present in the country) issued same day ( esp in BC dont know if there is a restriction in other Province) this was before Covid, during Covid you apply for it online it takes less than 2 months max. This worked for them This makes sense to me. She said some of her colleagues that applied for SOWP and where unlucky are still finding it difficult to get their spouse SOWP or Visa approved. For those of us that are well experience and those that are already in Canada what are your views?.... I would like us to explore this pathway Lianna2020: Letter of introduction isn’t gotten from Poe. The school can give it wherever the applicant is. Like ucw, it’s self served so all one needs to do is download .
Needs study permit, sin, letter of invitation from the spouse . Only study permit is gotten at point of entry. Others are in Canada itself . Like the sin, before one could get it at the airport but covid happened, so that is gotten at any service Canada near the spouse . The above is needed for sowp while visiting visa can be applied without getting a study permit. The permit itself is just a way to tell ircc that the main applicant has entered Canada and all.
Also it’s good to apply for your kids attached to your wife or hubby so they can be approved together and you can equally request for letter of authorization to speed things up. They might accept or reject it, it’s all 50/50 but no harm in trying .
Also they can explain in their letter of explanation how the work load is too much for the wife or hubby to take care of. How you miss your children and how they have lost weight and how you can’t concentrate and all. The emotional thingi.
There’s no timeline with ircc. Anything can happen. |

I thought that before I leave this wonderful thread, I should drop something for you.
I am currently working on a project, and that project will be completed in the last week of August.
It's an E-learning Platform for primary school students and secondary school students.
Let's just say it's like home Lesson. There's no home Lesson in Canada. So your children can gain access to computerized home lessons on their tablets, phones and laptops. Video Lessons, computer notes, and Computer Based Tests for each topic. All subjects.
We all want to raise excellent children with awesome brains. So, I think this will be beneficial to all parents.
You can look up what this project is about on Instagram.
https://www.instagram.com/tklesson_global/
Please, follow Tklesson on Instagram, and when the computerized Lessons begin in September, you will get notifications on Instagram. It's just 20 dollars monthly. Your child will get academic result, cgpa, etc.,
Thank you all once again. Stay blessed. |

There are lots of concerns that will be raised by the visa officer when assessing your eligibility for visa issuance. It doesn't make sense going with them at this time, how do you intend to cope with the three kids considering the rigorous system of education in Canada. My best suggestion for you is to apply alone, whilst the kids and your husband stay behind in Nigeria. After the successful outcome of your study permit application, you can file for your husband through the SOWP and visitor's visa for the kids.
It will end in praise |

Hello Everyone!
So, a friend introduced me to this forum two weeks ago and I have taken my time since then to visit it once in a while to read people's stories and pray along Before now, I hardly ever logged into my IRCC account to check updates, since I believed that they would email me regarding any update. So you can imagine my confusion when I started seeing posts saying "passed medicals" , "started eligibility review". I became frantic at one point oh. I was so worried that I told myself that I would send a webform today, only for me to get a PPR notification. |
