it all depends on the airline i think ....some connecting flights that uses Air Canada to final destinations are have issues on faring prices for extra luggages ....As for me am thinking of sea shipping most of my extras and travel with allowed luggage.....heard it takes about 2weeks

@skull4eva hmm its all depends when/date you want to travel, airline and the point of entry....i got 1.7m for a family of 4 its was a herculean task wifey runs a travel company ...we had to waitlist and eyes on it for a cheaper ticket to drop for the end of this month

@toceen2022 yea i contacted my airline and they reconfirm what you just said....minors are totally dependent on the parent status as they cant make decisions on their own.... so been on work Visa exempts them from a return ticket As for the vaccine status they said i don't need PCR for the kids since am fully vaccinated ....... I can afford to change/lose our ticket due to he inability to fly.
i thought Canada still implements their restriction .."that all unvaccinated minors above 5 years show proof of pre testing" i had to further research this which states Pre-entry testing is not required
Pre-entry tests are not required for fully vaccinated travellers entering Canada by land, air or water. You must still use ArriveCAN within 72 hours before your arrival to Canada.

Unvaccinated and partially vaccinated children under the age of 12 are not required to provide a valid pre-entry test result, if they are accompanying a fully vaccinated adult.

Children who are less than 5 years old are not required to test, regardless of their vaccination status.

Toceen2022:
Minors on visit visa accompanied by their parents on study or work visa don't need a return ticket. That's what I know.
A friend on SOWP that travelled recently with her child (1.5 years on visit visa) didn't book a return ticket and had no issue. She travelled with Lufthansa. She even confirmed from them before booking and that's what she was told.

I don't know if it's airline that decide if someone needs a return ticket or not, or it's CBSA. So make your findings. But my response to your question was based on my friend's experience.

@skull4eva so we need covid test...what about travelling with kids age 7 and 4 do we all need covid test... called Qatar airline and they said so far i am fully vaccinated we dont need covid pcr test...

they also said if your traveling with a minor and the parent has a work or study permit (or any document that permit a one way ticket it covers that minor too)....minors are at the discretion of the parent status...

1. You need covid 19 test to enter the plane but not to enter canada. At the point of entry they wont require covid 19 test from you but to enter the plane it remains a requirement.
2. You do not need to book a return ticket you sowp can easily be renewed within Canada so a return ticket is not required.

@shams i did my in Abuja and submitted in Abuja..... was still told to pay transmission fee .... my passport was return and i paid it and sent ,,,then got my passport in 4 working days .

@ MrsOwoks did biometrics in Abuja sent pp to Abuja for stamping passport return that i didn't pay for transmission fee ...i argued with the DHL guys and they said it a new development ....called vsf office they werent pick had to pay oooo just sent them a mail waiting for a response.

Requirement; if you did your biometrics in abuja, Theres no fee except for delivery fees.
buy an envelope.

IF NOT, You will first pay a transmission fee of N9410 to CANADA LOGISTIC COLLECTION account(0065165839) Sterling bank
Then print the receipt from your phone(coloured).

if you did your biometrics in lagos. Go to DHL closer to you and pay for 2-way courier and also pay for insurance to be sent to canada VAC Abuja, buy a fresh brown envelope and add the following NB; remember to give DHL a return address since its a 2 way courier

1.)put two photocopies of your passport data page(coloured)
2.)your yellow or white biometric strip(if you have misplaced these paper go to VFS so theyll sort you out). If you dont have the slip you can still send it regardless or you can add the BVL(biometric validation letter)
3.)Passport request letter
4.)1 copy of the consent form downloaded and signed( note u are filling and signing just the second page of your consent form)
3.)the passport itself
4.)one plain sheet of paper where you can write your Name, address, Email, phone number and signature
5.)one coloured copy of the receipt of the transmission fee payment

The parent should present:

the child’s passport
a copy of the child’s birth certificate, and
a letter of authorization, in English or French if possible, which is signed by the parent who is not travelling with them and lists:
the address and telephone number of the parent who is not travelling, and
a photocopy of that parent’s signed passport or national identity card.

Is there any other any protocol for vaccination for kids above 5 year and is PCR necessary for who and whom...

Greetings, did my Biometrics At Abuja....Upon submitting my passport to VFS office via DHL it was not accepted reasons that i didn't pay the transmission fee....i was surprise and thought maybe this is a new development.
i did my biometrics 2018 am i supposed to pay for transmission? Even, if i submitted my PP to Abuja office where i did my biometric... i was so annoyed i just had to pay at DHL office and resend it back

my Children are American Citizens so they will do a visitors record

Nothing different had to link children study permit for US citizens to my SOWP application which which gave me reasons to ask for expedited processing since it had passed processing times ....Viola....straight to PPR for me and the kids

@olasubomy does this mean that the in Canada processing time applies.....have been on SOWP so if my wife applies for me from canada its better than if i apply myself from Nigeria

Hi Raymond,

The application process is simply the same. A temporary resident in Canada may choose to apply for his/her spouse in Nigeria as their representative. This kind of application would be deemed filed in Canada. This temporary resident can then follow up with IRCC should there be need in case of delay in application processing.

That's just the basic difference.

I’m Foreigner and my spouse is Nigerian. His VV PPR finally arrived.

He applied for OWP in May 2021 no update,

He then applied for a Visitors Visa in December 2021 which was processed in Manila, Philippines but was rejected, VO stated on his GCMS note that he had no reason to visit me and our infant child. It was heartbreaking, and triggered more of my anxiety and depression.

In April 2022 I got my study permit extension for a second program and visitor’s record for my baby.

We did several research and assistance from other Nairalander Thanks to @Technix and @lianna2020.

Due to his past refusal we decided his application should be done in his country of citizenship Nigeria and not his country of residence.

He decided to reapply for a visitor's visa on May 14th 2022 and got PPR May 26th today. 12days dang!

He checked his OWP application and Eligibility review has started wow.

Over 372 days wow, finally I can smile and I believe and hope his OWP gets approved soon.

Big Big shout out to @justmellow, @gcmswriters. I really appreciate your service. They’re very professional and dang! they interpreted exactly what I was going through. For me I wrote my invitation letter myself. I really needed to express my frustration, depression and pain being alone with a 10 month old, how my marriage is threatened, my health is threatened, my spouse being a Nigerian has to prove himself worthy all the time and having different traditions and culture. I attached chats and conversations.

PPR after visa rejection from US, Australia and Schengen. It's a pattern when he applies for visas from outside Nigeria. This time he used his houses, investments and family in Nigeria as ties to his application.

Due to the limited upload size for documents on his visitors visa application he sent more documents via Webform to address his reapplication.

I just want to say thank you to Nairalanders and the community. I don’t wish this delay on anyone. I hope his OWP gets approved as soon as possible.

PPR Alert:

I applied for a visit visa for my dad and mum to attend my convocation ceremony barely almost two months ago.

Timeline:

Applied via the IRCC New Portal = March 27, 2022
Biometric Request – March 28, 2022.
Biometrics Done – April 6
Biometrics updated same day for Mother but April 11 for Father. (Note, I did not file group applications for them because I did not have much knowledge as I do now, so I would say group application is better if you are applying for both parents).
Then the long wait started – I was aware that my application had not yet passed standard processing times, so I had to be very diplomatic about how I flood IRCC with emails, so I first contacted the MP of my region.

MP contacted on April 25 – I sent a plea for their follow-up assistance with IRCC.
MP Feedback on April 26 – They informed me there is nothing they can do on the visit visa that is still within processing times of 102 days. They even told me they doubted the decision would come on time. I did not take no for an answer. I sent a response appealing that the graduation is in May, but all went to voice mail ; they did not respond to me again, maybe when they saw my wahala was too much

This experience with the MP has taught me only God has the final decision over your life.

I started thinking of the next step. I chatted with Fankrobbn1 chief guru from the Canada Student thread, since he knows better than me on things like this. He encouraged me that immigration hardly refuses parents as they have lesser flight risk as long as the person does not have a criminal record. Fankrobbn1 is a very confident immigration guru, and I like him for that.

I started sending periodical webform to London, Lagos, Abuja, and Nairobi and even decided to add the superpowers, New York . I compassionately coined the mail (compassionate mail) appealing for my parents to be part of the ceremony. Abuja has no web form, so I sent emails to Abuja IRCC.

I had barely done that for a week before Abuja IRCC sent an email to check the portal for an important letter, and lo and behold, I saw their PPR today.

Documents Submitted:

• My personal stamped Canadian Bank statement –I took a calculated risk - I did not submit bank statements for my parent because my dad does not have much. Only my mum has a bank statement, so I thought about how I will submit a bank statement for mum and none for dad—the reason for the decision. But on the second note, that might work for a group application.
• Air flight ticket – fully paid – I attached evidence.
• Airbnb- Fully paid – I attached evidence.
• Letter of invitation from my school
• Confirmation of invitation letter drafted by me.
• Copies of Previous USA and UK visas
• Copies of Governors Consent to Land (C of O)
• Just two random old family pictures showing me with my parents on essential days (Picture of my ICAN induction and my dad's birthday)
• The file size was beyond 2 mb, so I sent the major doc on the portal and sent the remaining through a webform, and email with a letter of explanation addressed to the Deputy High Commission.

I wish you guys still expecting God speed and positive decision soon. You will testify soon.

Congratulations it is indeed worth the celebrations. I will love to ask which country did you apply from? For the childrens visa I will advise that u send your passport for vignette stamping becos you only have 30 days period to do that I know that once that is received by IRCC office the kids own will drop too. It has happened here to someone in the past that they released PPR for two kids and withheld that of the mum and last child but once they received the Passport for the kids the PPR for the other two dropped. It should not be an issue since their application was included in yours. Or are they US citizens?

I submitted application for SOWP for myself and study for my 2 kids on January 25.

May 5th my SOWP was approved but nothing for the children. On my application it shows background check and eligibility as on going and the final decision is your application is approved. They have also sent the letter that i should send my passport for the visa.

Please what can i do to make the children's application be released on time.
We have all done our medicals.

SOWP submitted on 22nd February 2022,
-Travelled to Dubai on 4th of April 2022 for vacation (my wife came from Canada to meet me there in Dubai) and I returned to Nigeria on 22nd of April and on 1st of May I sent my new travel record via email to kenya, London and lagos IRCC offices with pictures with my wife.I also submitted it as webform. approval was received today, May 5th- 72days!!!. Pure miracle


I should add that I requested for reconsideration of the visitor's visa that was refused in December, and I did not hear from them until today, they sent a second rejection for the visit visa(that is making three visit visa rejections) followed immediately by an approval for the open work permit

I will like to use this medium to encourage us all. I come to Nairaland to read people's stories to get encouragement and so I hope my own story will encourage others too.

It is not easy staying apart from your family. Many times I started wondering if this whole Canada business was even worth it.

When I got to Canada in September last year, I was motivated by a friend who applied early last 2021 and got approval for his wife and two kids within a month, so I thought it was going to easy like that. I did not bother applying immediately. I already had it in mind that I will apply by December and they will join my in January or February, then by October the story started changing. People were now saying 5 months, 6 months. The Indians friends I have were saying 14 months. I just couldn't believe it. I rushed and put things together and applied in November.

When it looked as if the way forward was through VV, i quickly joined the band and applied in December. I put up all the documents i could lay my hands on, so when i was refused, it was a shocker. The first thing that came to my mind was, if they could refuse the VV which i trust was quite strong based on family ties, i did not see how they will grant us the SOWP. The family tie was still the same. I didn't even understand if they wanted the tie to be strong or lose- family tie home and abroad. That same day, i used webform to upload a letter of introduction from my spouse's employer and a letter of Leave of Absence. I did not upload them at first because they were not ready then.

I resolved that i was going to stay a while and then reapply, but few days later, I logged into the old portal and that was when i noticed that my child's VV had been withdrawn. I was so confused. They did not even give any reason. They simply withdrew it. I tried calling but to connect to their line is as hard as getting visa sef. I put up the first webform to complain and ask that they fix things if it was an error. They replied the next day that they was a letter on my portal explaining the reason, and if there wasn't any, I should fill out another webform with a screenshot of the portal showing that I didn't get any letter. I did that and they ignored me for a week. I wrote another letter to them again asking that they fix things or explain why it was withdrawn and they took their time to reply. When I didn't hear from them after four days, I wrote a long letter in the webform, tried to be as emotional as i truly was and waited some days and no reply again. At that time, I just decided to apply afresh for my daughter alone. That was wen they replied the 3rd webform with a one-line sentence saying I had two similar applications and that was why, then a week later, they replied the emotional webform explaining in detail why it was withdrawn and even telling me that they have seen the new application and that it was been processed. It gave me ideas that these guys want someone to be emotional and scream to high heavens about mental health deteriorating because of being separated from ones family before they will react. i could be wrong though.

Same day i reapplied for my child, i ordered GCMS notes for my spouse through getgcms. I wanted to be sure that they had received the letters from my spouse' employers. They told me 40 days, i said no wahala in my mind. All these while, i was already doubting the successful outcome of the SOWP just because of the VV refusal. 30 days later, getgcms writes to me that they needed extension by 30 days. i just laughed that these people wanted to finish me.

On the PPR day, i even wrote to them asking why they hadn't updated my daughter's medicals on the new application. An hour later when i got the "Do not reply" i even readied my mind to see refusal. God i doubted you, i am sorry! But to my astonishment, it was my spouse' PPR. I broke the new to them at home, telling them that my child's own will come soon, not knowing that it was there already, waiting for me to open it too. I just said i should clos my email, when i noticed that the application number on the emails were different. If you see the speed i used to type details for the new portal ehn, even my computer shock. My child's PPR was just there waiting cooling for me to open it.

It has been a journey of 5 months. Very tiring! I know that there are people whose applications have taken longer. Please, don't lose hope. Canada will/shall/must favour us all.

Thank you. We did not "officially" apply for reconsideration as we were told we can't appeal/file for reconsideration for visit visa. We just kept sending emails and webforms; and eventually IRCC overturned the decision to approval.
