You were spot on with those two posts and speaking my mind then you went and disappointed me by mentioning Mbappe and Haaland as generational talents. Those two are on course to become generational players, but I wouldn't call either of them generational talents. Mbappe is a world class effective speed merchant with good finishing and an ok technical ability. There's nothing to his game that's generational when compared to someone Like Lamine yamal an actual generational talent.


Ronaldinho, Delima, Messi, Maradonna, Neymar, Cruyff, Iniesta, Okocha, Yamal are generational talents.

Ronaldo, Mbappe, De bruyne, Lewandowski, Zidane, Haaland, Modric, Xavi are

If we are talking about generational TALENT:

Xavi definitely not. I watched him fairly well as a youth player. Somewhere down the line his game developed and evolved into the GOAT midfielder that he became.

Zidane most likely not but I didn’t see much of him as a youth player but I believe his game evolved too.

Dinho is the one that has the best claim to being a generational talent cos everything he became from a technical point of view was already on display from the earliest sighting of him.

I am saying this as someone whose favourite 2 midfielders this century are Zidane and Xavi.

Anybody who is not already showing signs that he will be an all time great as a teenager can’t be a generational talent. Generational talent is not about achievement but what you came into the senior game with. Whether you go on to be a legend of the game is a different story that depends on luck, discipline, hard work, sacrifice, etc.

Generational talents do not get loaned from place to place at age 18-20 like Harry Kane was.

A generational talent can end up being an underachiever while an average talent can end up being an all time great. Many other factors influence the end result.

A true generational talent will show extreme ability from a very young age. Basically from teenage years we will know that this player is special.

Kane is an all time great in terms of his performance and overall ability but he worked and developed it more than being a pure talent.

I think CAF should adopt the CONMEBOL style World Cup qualification format, with all teams playing in a league system and the top teams qualifying automatically. When we talk now, people will remind me of how he has made consecutive WC Finals but when you look at the quality of the squad he has enjoyed you'd realize he has underperformed.

There are teams that will go to a tournament and not win but the fans will still at least enjoy and be pleased with the performance.
