Leyqute: Ibragimov not begovic.
Chido is a good finisher and he’s even working more in his finishing. If other aspects of his game are good, I won’t rule him out getting a senior debut this season. He’s very tall and looks strong. I am just praying for an injury-free season for Ibragimov. He and Lacey did not really play much last season. I would also prefer that he played Under-18 this season rather than what they might be planning which is to yo-yo him between Under-18 and Under-21. |

It would be difficult to observe upcoming players if this goes on. We won’t know how Amass is developing and how ready he is for the first team. Seems Amir Begovic had a terrific game last night as well. And Chido Obi is yet to kick a ball for United as they seem not to have finalized his deal yet Begovic ke? God forbid o. Chido Obi's deal has to be vetted by the FA because of the manner in which it happened. The bank accounts of his parents, uncles, and even his church pastor are being vetted as we speak. |

Ellexy: Lol it's not agenda driven. From the 2 games so far, he's been largely contained by opponents. The quality is there but somehow, he's not showing it to the level we're really expecting. He's more talented than Garnacho but the South American has more x factor than him and more likely to decide a game.
That's my observation anyway. I get the part about the X-factor that Garnacho has but Amad has to be given the time to develop as well. It should not be an either-or issue with them. Man City has always had depth in quality which is why they maintain high levels. We need a large group of very good players playing in a well-structured system, not a single player that is "that guy". Also, if anyone here remembers the first few months of Vidic and Evra in the club (especially Vidic), nobody could have guessed they would both go down as great players for the club. I used to be doubtful about Amad as well, but he has the baseline technical ability needed to play for a club like United, and i have noticed that he has recently become stronger and faster. Those are the basic qualities on which he can now develop his game. |

Ellexy: The goal aside, Amad was bad yesterday. He's not that guy. Yesterday feels like Arsenal's game from last season. Garnacho with some hard luck of recent. This sounds agenda driven. Amad with an off day after losing a family member: He is not that guy. Garnacho with the miss of the season in one game while repeatedly losing the ball in dangerous positions: Hard luck. Whether Amad is the guy or not won't be determined by one single game, especially not one that took place after losing a family member. |

maik99: Bruno / Mount helped press Brighton and tbh to good effect esp. in the first half. I remember we won the ball high and in dangerous positions. But I have said this too many times I probably now sound like a broken record, our lack of cohesive play upfront is going to be the end of us
I don’t know what eth was thinking with the subs tho. Bruno off for ghostominay to play as a number 10 when it was obvious Kobbie and case were tired. Brighton just jejely brought on Adingra, Baleba and Enciso and it was obvious we were going to concede. Also subbing Maguire for MDL also made zero sense at that point. You are either bringing on a defender as an extra defender or you leave the ones that started
I’m frustrated too That Bruno sub was funny. At that point Mainoo and Case had started escorting midfield runners, yet ETH removed Bruno and left them on. |

maik99: With that high line conventionally united should have had a feast. Even on our worst days we love high lines. I don’t see how playing a striker especially if it’s Rashford makes a difference. We just needed the attackers running in behind to time their runs and stay onside and for those passing to release the ball timeously. We did neither yesterday despite several opportunities. Again, lack of cohesion in the final third Low block - No space to run in behind - False 9 to pull out the CBs Highline - Lots of space behind - Pacy No 9 to exploit the acres of space behind the CBs. The higher the number of fast runners we have running behind, the more difficult it is for the opponent to maintain an organized highline. I agree our players did not exploit it properly yesterday. Either the passes were too slow in coming or our runners were too impatient and went offside. |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by afrodoc2: 1:46pm On Aug 25, 2024 |
maik99: Well Doc given our obvious problem with playing out the back in previous seasons I’ll say playing out the back was the least of our problems yesterday. We evaded Brighton’s press too many times. Too many. What we did with the ball from the midfield to the final third is where I see several issues
Our play out from the back is not perfect yet but there’s marked improvement I did not say it was our only problem. I also said we struggle to create clear cut chances which is not directly linked to playing out from the back (although they are related in an indirect way). I just highlighted playing out from the back because it is one of the easier things to address on the training pitch. If after 3 seasons we are still doing it in such a hit and miss fashion, then what can we expect in terms of the more difficult issues like breaking down a low block and creating plethora of chances. I expect more fluidity in our passing and off the ball movement. Another recurring problem is ETH's inability to either select the right players or make the right subs. With the way Brighton plays that suicidal high line anybody with even basic football knowledge should have known that False 9 was not the way to go. Before the match i warned that the False 9 will soon lazzident, and it did. Evan Rashford down the middle would have worked better than the Bruno/Mount combination. |

maik99: The on the ball structure is not as bad you paint it. Moves usually fell apart even the ball got to our wingers, who I keep saying need to improve the most
Onana holding onto the ball is to allow potential receivers assume good positions and also bait pressing attackers to leave gaps in the opponent’s structure. The less said about Maguire, the better What did i say that is not true? 1) We are not creating enough clear-cut chances. 2) Onana and Maguire caress the ball for too long. P.S I know why Onana caresses the ball but often times the result is not what we want. He caresses the ball and draws pressure, but our defenders and midfielders are often not in the proper positions to exploit the gaps created. If the coach does not set them up properly the caressing of ball will be for nothing. Maguire just caresses the ball for caressing sake even when there are obvious passing options. * ETH is not coaching them well enough on the positions to take and the angles to create when building up from the back. I have seen the way City, Assanal, Spurs, Brighton etc do it, and we are not doing it as effectively. We should be better after a 3rd pre-season. |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by afrodoc2: 5:06am On Aug 25, 2024 |
By not creating and scoring enough goals we are asking our defense to be perfect in every game, which is not realistic.
The improved pressing is good, but we need more structure on the ball as well. Onana and Maguire caressing the ball for extended periods before passing it is disgusting to watch. And our midfielders Case and Mainoo have to do more to make themselves available for the ball and create angles and options for the backline to pass to them. |

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by afrodoc2: 2:16am On Aug 25, 2024 |
TrebleChamp: Our playing style has indeed improved and we keep the ball better compared to last season, bald fraud is getting help from his new coaching crew in this area. Hope they also help him with his selection and substitution going forward. How he doesn't see that the team need a proper 9 i don't know, Zirkzee on the pitch is more of a false 9 than a proper one.. We keep the ball better but we are still not doing enough in terms of creating quality cancer and cutting open the opposition. We are also still very slow and ponderous when trying to play out from the back. I think most of the improvement has come off the ball in terms of our pressing, being compact, and not allowing the opponents to pepper our goal with shots. However if he does not rotate adequately the pressing style will soon lead to accumulation of injuries. ETH has not done enough in terms of implementing a good attacking playing style in his time here, and this is partly because he wasted the whole of last season, and probably partly because he is just not that good of a coach. |
