Jason Wilcox has to do something about Shea Lacey. The lad is shinning for the U16s.

https://x.com/academyarenautd/status/1815108810966483278?s=46

He needs to grow whilst maintaining his skills.
That was 2 years ago. You know Lacey is with the Under-18s na, not the Under-16s.

He missed most of last season with injuries, so he has to sit up this year to maintain his development and keep his position in the team, because Bendito Mantato will be snapping at his heels this season.

Lacey has the technical edge by far, but Mantato has the physical edge by far as well.

Rashford and Sancho for the left.

Garnacho and Amad for the right.

Antony for the dustbin or loan. Whichever is easier to sort out.

Just a shame none of those are pass-first wide players because our strikers will suffer.
Sancho is definitely pass first. The problem for him is putting in effort, work rate and delivering consistent quality.

Arsenal have activated the extra year clause in his contract. He might be loaned out with an obligation to buy + sell-on clause. it is sad how the boy couldn't make it to the first team. Miguel Azeez is shocking. He has the frame and technicality. What is even more shocking is that a club in Spanish Segunda later signed him.
That step up from youth football to senior football is huge. The gap is mad.

Even with all his technical qualities, Mainoo that used to bully opponents with power and pace in the academy sometimes struggles to keep up with the pace in the senior game. That one shocked me.

Patino should be the one going to Spain. Azeez can go to Germany or a similar league. Suits his game better.

It's sad seeing that Patino might not make it here. I was really thinking he would be one of those who would make it and while I didn't get to watch him, I followed his progress on loan to see how he's faring but saw that he doesn't really have much game time there.

Truly, to make that jump from youth prospect to senior team isn't really easy.

Na that Shoretire truly I been dey hope for. Did you feel you guys really managed his growth well?
No we didn’t. We played him all over the place and promoted him too quickly.

I think Patino should go to Spain. He will be valued more there. His lack of athleticism is what is counting again him in England.

I'm just so glad we're getting players who really wants to play for arsenal. No wonder we can see it in their desire and zeal when they play.

I dunno but I always have this feeling during Wenger years that once you said you're an arsenal fan or that you'll love to play for Arsenal, then your chance of actually signing for arsenal is slim. I remember I and my arsenal uni friend then always joked about it of players who would always say they'll love to play for arsenal when linked (and they're really good players), yet Wenger would not carry on with the deal (even when we're initially serious). Not saying it's a fact, but I was really getting that vibe then.

Anyways, I'm really really really happy that we are getting players that really wants to come here. It'll be very difficult for such a player to be swayed away from the club
😢

So you have actually watched him, but only clips.

You should have clarified now, instead of claiming you had never watched him at all.

😢

Meanwhile it looks like you guys are releasing Charlie Patino.
It is ironic how Patino, Miguel Azeez, Shola Shoretire, and Hannibal Mejbri have all struggled to adapt to the senior game.

That is what makes making projections and predictions on youth prospects very difficult.

He was meant to be a starter but his penchant for losing the ball under pressure made Enrique relegate him to the bench for Vitinha. He never got his place back and now they want to sell after one season.

If he couldn't cut it PSG, I wonder if he'll cut it here in the high pressure EPL.
Siddon look mode activated on this deal. If he comes we will support him, but I don’t think we should get him.

E no mean the tackle that injured Mainoo last season’s preseason tour also.

He was a factor in our midfield being overrun because he does not have the legs to cover ground anymore.

When he is not slide tackling opponents and teammates he is pulling opponents shirts and picking up early bookings.

He is done at EPL level and needs to be moved on ASAP, not only for his poor play but also to get his huge wages off our books.

If we strengthen our defence with Yoro and De Ligt, we don’t need a CDM that can’t progress the ball or keep possession under pressure.

Afrodoc2. Abeg bro, i been ask you before about this Oyedele boy, he looks tidy to me today. He might not be first team quality now, but who knows about tomorrow ? And we can loan and sell for big money in years to come ala Cheasea and City
He is okay but is behind in the pecking order. That midfield pathway is getting choked for academy players. With Mainoo and Collyer ahead of him we need more experienced players to complement them in the team. I agree a loan is best for him at this time.

Afrodoc2, I never hear about this collyer since oo, until ETH spoke to him at the final. How how he was under the radar since? The boy looks so mature to be a youth team player, he is clearly the best academy product we have. I watch the last match vs Rosenborg, he was superb
I mentioned him as one of the potential breakout players this season.

He played mostly untelevised Under-21 games last season, so people were not sure how well he had progressed. I suspected he might have a chance this season because he was on the senior bench a lot towards the end of last season, ETH talked to him to specially a la Mainoo at the end of the FA Cup final, and because ETH was said to have insisted on being present when he signed his senior contract.

afrodoc2:
Harrison grew taller like you wished last season, and he still kept his reflexes and agility, so your jazz worked. Yeah, i think he needs a League One loan this season. but i selfishly want him to stay behind for our UEFA Youth League games. The guy has real potential.

The ones i suspect have a chance of making the first team this season are Collyer, Williams, and Amass.

I’m concerned for Wheatley especially. He’s quite talented but he lacks the right attitude and grit. He has to work hard to fulfill his potential.
The chances of an academy player making it at the club are slim anyway so even if Wheatley fulfills his potential, he still might not make it here, particularly because of the position he plays. The good thing for him is that he made a lot of progress over the 2nd half of last season.

I thought they said we have a budget of around £200m. We have spent a little over 100m and we have made over 50m in player sales so, spending another 100-150m should be well within our means.

Ugarte and Zubimendi won't cost more than £100m which is quite fair. McTom, Casemiro and Erikson should fetch us close to £60m.

One of Maguire/Lindelöf will be sold which should also bring in £25m or something close to it.
We made over 50m in sales?

TrebleChamp:
Who would you prefer?
Apart from clips i have not seen much of either of them so i can't speak to their quality, but stylistically i prefer a Zubimendi type of player to an Ugarte type. From the clips i watched Ugarte seems to be tenacious off the ball and similar to Ander Herrera but that is not good enough on the ball for me. There is also the consideration that he moved to PSG for big money and struggled last season which is why PSG want to offload him to buy Joao Neves.

I didn't even watch the Spain vs England match that got people talking about Zubimendi. It is all fun and games when your team has all the possession, and you are given the time and space to play Alcantara-style idea ball, however I don't know how good he is when his team does not have the ball and when he has to cover open donut-shaped spaces in midfield.

If McTom, Casemiro and Erikson leave, then we will need to sign 2 midfielders.

I am still expecting Saudi Arabia to come calling for Bruno.
I am suspecting it would be one of Ugarte or Zubimendi cos each one will be relatively expensive. I don't think we will spend big money on 2 midfielders, especially if we still aim to get De Ligt or Branthwaite.
