I've put my mind off Anderson. The city links are too strong. I think he's going there. Would gladly have the others mentioned but not sure who else in place of Anderson.
Yeah. One can only hope.

If we can't get Anderson i would not mind bringing back Jimmy Garner in addition to Gomes and Mateus Fernandes. 150m and we have 4 competent CMs who are all good on the ball and Mainoo will be the least tenacious/aggressive one.

Devaney is currently doing really well on loan and could slot in as an emergency option (if he does not go on loan). He could be a dark horse candidate to make it ahead of the more fashionable names.

He's a baller but that chance he missed enter my body. Bring him to Old Trafford though.
Anderson, Mainoo, Mateus Fernandes, Gomes. That is a decent 4some to choose the 2 starting CMs from, and i think you can use any 2 of them together.

Yet most of those academy kids don’t make it. I still marvel at how luck and timing plays a big part in transitioning to senior team. It’s not easy at all.

I’m anticipating that FA Cup final. If we win, na miracle. Gabriel’s form needs a resurgence.

Next season is going to be hectic and hopefully, a few of them can be counted on to fill in when we need to rest some seniors. Obi, Lacey, the Fletcher boys and a few others should get some minutes.
It is a game of arithmetic. Every 1-2 years you have a new set of talented kids, but the top clubs have a limited number of slots to fill. Saka and Odegaard for example have been holding their spot in Arsenal and have seen off numerous left footed AM academy hopefuls with potentials.

Another thing is that some people are late developers who start excelling at 21-22 meanwhile most clubs decide academy players fates by 19-20.

Yeah, next season we might have rely on some of them to chip in a few minutes here and there. Everything depends on how much we do in the transfer market and how well some of those guys develop over the summer.

At this point i think Lacey, Obi, Devaney are the readiest for the senior team. Kamason just got back from a long-term injury, but he could be ready by next season. Thwaites is better technically than the Fletcher twins but i am not sure about his physical development.

The best thing for all of them probably is to go on loan next season to gain regular minutes at a lower level but i am not sure we can afford that.

I even forgot about Leon! 😀

Not a pretty sight. Harry Amass is definitely ahead of him in terms of technicality and football knowledge. He’s just got that rawness and a strong mentality to make it.

Hopefully we can sell him for a decent profit.

I noticed that those City kids play as if they are more coached. They are like machines. Their play feels rote and structured, unlike our boys that were more…human?

Not saying one approach is good and the other is bad. But it’s an interesting phenomenon, given the argument that creativity in football is dying with accusing fingers pointing at how academy players are being brought up. Effective, clean and clinical.
Their academy is the best in the country for so many reasons.

Firstly, they scout some of the best talented players in the country. Only Man Utd and Chelsea are close in terms of the overall talent pool in the academies.

They also have the best facilities and staff that money can buy. They have better coaches and staff and they have more coaches and staff which helps with development. If you look at the benches tonight; we had 1 physio and 1 conditioning coach while Man City had 2 physios, 1 conditioning coach, 1 nutritionist. The difference is clear like 7 up in terms of the overall setup and player development but we close the gap because we have 1 or 2 difference-making players.

I don't consider Iraola as World-class just that I'll prefer him over Nagelsmann. The later himself has also not done anything to shown he is worldclass. I can dare say he failed at Bayern and that's something.

Your concerns about Iraola is valid though, I have no defence at all regarding that.
Nagelsmann did not fail at Bayern. He won the league the only season he completed, was sacked during the 2nd season when he was 1 point from the top and left with a 71.4% winning rate which is one of the best in Bundesliga history. It was not a spectacular success but i would not call that failure.

Luis Enrique is the obvious outstanding candidate but i would not mind Nagelsmann as an alternative before talking about all these guys whose experience is coaching well for 1-2 seasons in 10k-20k seater stadiums.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by afrodoc2: 2:25pm On May 05
Ellexy:
Even Nagelsmann looks like a fraud who will be found out if he comes here. There's nothing he has done to show he's a world class manager imo. I'll take Iraola over him because Iraola has PL experience.
Nah i am not taking Iraola. Thomas Frank had EPL experience before going to Spurs and he nearly relegated them. Glasner's season collapsed at Palace under little pressure. Moyes set us on our dark path after overperforming at Everton. Nuno was looking like a magician at Forest and nearly wrecked Spurs.

I don't want any of these overperforming small club EPL managers that get found out once they move to a big club. Big club experience is more important than small club EPL experience.

What evidence do you have that Nagelsmann will be a fraud? I didn't even say that he was a world class manager. Speaking of world class managers what has Iraola done to show that he is a world class manager?
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by afrodoc2: 1:29pm On May 05
I am not fully convinced but if it is not Luis Enrique or Nagelsmann i can't think of anybody that i would prefer.

Iraola is the toast of the town now but a short while ago it was Thomas Frank or Oliver Glasner. Managers that might not be mentally prepared for the size of the club.

The overall results have been great, but the performances have been worrying at times. To prevent Ole 2.0 if Carrick gets the job the club has to back him heavily and not use the fact that he is an in-house guy to cheat him of full support in the transfer market.

We are likely to play close to 20 more games next season. The club needs to buy minimum of 5 quality players if we factor Casemiro leaving, Ugarte being useless, and the number of injury-prone players we have. We actually need more than 5 but i think our academy will have to supplement.

Abeg let better people come and discuss something tangible.

Our academy boys played Crystal Palace today. We won 2-0 and Obi scored again. I’m hoping he can get a loan next season at least.
The referee of that match should be banned for life. Officiating in the academy and reserves is atrocious.

Before the game today, I think he was the only GK in the PL this season to have not made a mistake that led to goal. Today, he said hold my beer.
The thing was smelling from the first half. I noticed he was trying to play out from the back more instead of his usual long ball. He actually made some risky burger passes in the first half but Mainoo and co were able to cope. That pass in the second half was so way off.

He needs to learn when to play short and when to play long. I am happy he is trying it though cos we can't persist with only long balls. He can do all the learning now that we have made UCL and complete it next preseason. By next season he should be more competent to go either long or short as the situation presents.

He contributed to saving our season so i can't be too mad with him over 1 mistake.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by afrodoc2: 6:18pm On May 03
I hope Lammens does not allow the mistake to affect him. It is an aspect of his game he needs to work on, and he needs to understand when to try those short passes and when to go long.

Carrick should get the job and be sorted on transfers if we can't land a better coach.
He needs to be backed seriously if he gets the job sha. They should not let this 2nd half of the season mislead them. We have played 17 games less than Liverpool this season.

If we can't get Luis Enrique and maybe Nagelsmann i think it should be Carrick.

My belief is that AFCON did a number on him and Amad. Next season we go again and thankfully no AFCON.
