Ibime: I don't think there can be any practical study that would satisfy members of team Chloroquine cos that would require access to infected people at home with mild symptoms who have also been diagnosed. This is the most comprehensive study so far though. Although the African experience, particularly low mortality in the likes of Senegal who have an early Chloroquine deployment policy, although anecdotal is a decent argument in favour of Chloroquine. Personally speaking i don’t think enough has been made of the effect of climate on transmission and viral replication. There is a reason why the seasonal flu peaks during the colder months of the year. This reason is likely not too far from the reason why the Northern Hemisphere bore the brunt of this epidemic. Regarding the chloroquine therapy for mild symptoms. If it only works for people that have such mild symptoms that they don’t even know they are sick, of what use is it? It has to work for people with clinically significant symptoms for the Risk/Benefit ratio to make sense. From the info the pro-Chloroquine lobby has given so far the Number Needed to Treat (NNT) would be so high it might not make much sense to use the medication. |

Ibime: This is the most comprehensive retrospective study on Chloroquine so far.
https://www.thelancet.com/journals/lancet/article/PIIS0140-6736(20)31180-6/fulltext
It be like say I go reconsider membership of team Chloroquine, although one counterargument is that all these patients where hospitalised, mostly in the West which indicates advanced viral replication as they only hospitalise you in the West when water done pass Garri. Chloroquine advocates always argue it is too late at this stage. However the study also included a key control which is that patients had to have had Chloroquine within 2 days of Covid diagnosis. So far no study has set such criteria which favours the "taking Chloroquine early" argument, however there is still wiggle room for Chloroquine advocates to argue that Hospitalisation itself is an indicator of advanced disease in the West, as they will not admit you till things done dey red.
Of 96,000 patients analysed in hospitals, 15,000 patients were given Chloroquine sometimes in combination with a macrolide like azimothrycin. Patients treated more than 2 days after diagnosis were excluded as were patients on ventilators.
The death rates of the treated groups were: hydroxychloroquine 18%; chloroquine 16.4%; control group 9%. Those treated with hydroxychloroquine or chloroquine in combination with antibiotics had an even higher death rate.
Age/Race/Sex/Co-morbidities were fairly evernly spread between the Chloroquine groups and Control Groups.
The only argument left for team Chloroquine is to focus on the Hospitalisation argument that the virus has already proliferated by hospitalisation stage, also you have time lag between Hospitalisation and diagnosis turnaround time plus up to 2 days allowed by the study meaning these patients could be anything from 10-30 days into infection by the time Chloroquine was prescribed.
Afrodoc2, TheCassanova, Victornezzar, do you think this argument may still be valid for Team Chloroquine? Also how about other Zinc Ionophores such as Quercetin etc? Any benefit in that? Well more information is needed. Remember i was never convinced about this Chloroquine issue. The level of evidence was just too weak. Anecdotal reports and Lab studies just don’t cut it in terms of driving a change in the management of a disease as major as this. This study you quoted is better but until large randomized double-blind control studies or even a meta analysis of several such studies are done it would still be a gamble. |

He died during one of such missions against Federal troops in the company of his fellow Biafrans. No labels are necessary. |

When he was going to media houses creating awareness about his book, Alabi Isama claimed Obasanjo while fleeing the battle field was shot in the buttocks . I bust laughter that day ehn.
Everybody that participated in the war and wrote a book is telling the story from their perspective Hahaha. Yeah i remember Isama and his campaign against Obasanjo. BlueRayDick: This is a very sensitive discuss that will flare tempers if it is discussed here. I've read at least 3 books on the war by Late Prof. Chukwuemeka Ike, Olusegun Obasanjo and Chinua Achebe.....There's this other one that detailed the trial of Banjo and Ifejuna ( My old man keeps these books)....
I can tell u there is no true version of the war story. Most people see it from their own side of the war.
From the Sahara reporter's link the interview showed Ojukwu and Awolowo had a discussion in which Ojukwu confirmed was not binding per se.
If we have this discussion it will get messy with some people claiming Awo is a sellout while some will claim He didn't make a promise to Ojukwu and in fact if he did the Igbos deserve it because Zik betrayed Awo and his AG back then when Zik abandoned his pact with Awo and joined forces with Tafawa Balewa to form a government in the first republic.
Honestly the topic will just worsen some old wounds Exactly right. I have read Why we struck (Ademoyega), Because i am involved (Ojukwu), Not my will (Obasanjo), Madiebo's book, Sunset in Biafra (Amadi), Chukwuemeka Ike's novel (Sunset at Dawn) The story you read depends on who is telling it. |

donjazet: But the igbos were being massacred in thousands in the north, their properties were also being vandalized, that is by definition "force". Secession was the only viable option at that point. I do think awolowo's promise further emboldened him to secede at that particular time.
The previous political debate indicate that irrespective of conflicting opinions, we can discuss anything here without quagmire. WE here can, but there are entities roaming NL looking for this type of issue to cause trouble. |

donjazet: Raumdeuter, I would like to pick your brain on this subject matter, as you know our history has been soo distorted, it's difficult to know facts. it has been hotly debated that Ojukwu freed awolowo himself on the agreement that himself and the Yoruba would secede from Nigeria but upon his release changed his mind. I just read an article on Sahara reporters that stirs my inquisition. If they did infact agree, why do you think awolowo reneged on the agreement?
Cc blueraydick, larride, Ibime etc.
http://saharareporters.com/2011/11/26/my-last-interview-dim-chukwuemeka-ojukwu-rudolf-okonkwo He is quoted here as saying if the Ibos were forced out he would take the Yorubas out as well. That is not the same thing as having an agreement to secede. Starting such a topic here is risky though. |

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Official Chelsea Fan Thread: Club World Cup Champions 2025-2029 by afrodoc2: 7:30pm On May 22, 2020 |
BlueRayDick: I agree with this. What I just don't get is when people say the same defenders we see in these old clips will stop some of the today's attacks like Messi, Ronaldo and others...when in fact the defenders of nowadays who have also benefited from the advancement in training, sports medicine etc cannot do the stopping. The great defenders are mainly from the 80s and 90s i.e Scirea, Baresi, Bregomi, Sammer, Maldini etc with a few additions from the 70s. I can't think of a single universally accepted all time great defender who stopped playing before 1970. One thing you have to remember though is that football ability is not all about athletic ability. Being faster and stronger does not automatically make someone a better defender. Studying the game, maintaining focus, working on your craft everyday (rather than being on social media) are also important, and those guys did these things more. Defending now is not as good as 2 decades ago because of rule changes but also because it is not as fashionable and players just don't work on it as much. There is no central defender playing now who is near Scirea, Baresi, Beckenbauer level. Take Baresi (who i have always believed was the greatest) for example. His record in finals shows a lot of clean sheets and single goals conceded, compared to others who played in his era AND the so called great defenders of these days who win finals 4-3. |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Official Chelsea Fan Thread: Club World Cup Champions 2025-2029 by afrodoc2: 6:53pm On May 22, 2020 |
BlueRayDick: Honestly I still don't understand how people rate footballers that played in this Era at per or even higher than some great players we have now.
I mean watching this match, it gives a vibe of two Ajebutter private schools playing against each other. See each of the teams when defending allowing the offensive team as much space as they need ....They even allow the ball to bounce around when passing or controlling the ball . The ball is just too loosely played around.
Sincerely I don’t rate the football they play during those era higher than what we have now The general level of football is not higher than now. I don't think anybody would argue otherwise. Advances in training, diet, medicine, ball technology, pitch quality means players will continue to get better. With regards to comparing great players from different eras, it is more about comparing how dominant each player was in his era and trying to assess how they would do against each other if they all had the same environmental factors. |
