Ellexy: Antony isn’t actually a bad player imo. Hutchinson and Madueke aren’t better than him. The real issue has been the pressure of the club and the weight of his transfer fee. He was being linked to Atletico Madrid and he looks like a Diego Simeone type of player but eventually nothing came of it.
As for Garnacho, choosing Chelsea is his business, that’s his choice. But the club must make sure Chelsea pays full value, nothing less than what Arsenal paid for Madueke. Both him and Chelsea dey craze if they think he’s leaving cheaply. It is not about being a good or bad player. It is about that fact that he has played in the EPL already and struggled. Some of his struggles have to do with the dysfunction at the club but some of it also has to do with the increased physicality of the league compared to where he came from. Watch and see that a player like Gittens might struggle as well. No club in the EPL will pay 50m for Antony whether he claims to be a good player or not. Garnacho insisting on Chelsea is actually more than his business. If he refuses to consider any club and Chelsea gives us a low-ball offer, we will be forced to either sell him at that offer or keep him here training alone and paying his salary for doing nothing while he burns a whole in our PSR balance. It is his insistence on Chelsea that has delayed some of our other moves this offseason because he is the one that could have gotten us the most money. A bidding war might have even gotten us more than Madueke money but now as only Chelsea is in the picture it will affect the fee. So, it is very much also our business. |

ChristineC: I don't think you understood my issue. I didn't infere that Bruno has to be in CM. the thing is he can do a job in CM. even with the new signings, I think he's joint with Dorgu and maybe Mbeumo on players that can be place holders for the multiple positions. in the absence of quality naturals, somebody with the closest traits to do a job in the position must cover it. that's first.
secondly, the message being forced online - mainly by people who watch these "pundit" channels on YouTube and in turn parrot same lines every game week, whether it had a bearing on the result or not - seem to be Bruno is useless or is singlehandedly holding back the team. that cannot be farther from the truth. he had 19 goals/19 assists last season in 'that' Man United team and created 91 chances, most in the league. I also doubted the stat when I saw it. some people will regurgitate.. but he loses the ball bla bla bla, yes; the timelines however, spells out that there's more positive contribution to his game even in this current state. we've signed quality players to boost output, I agree and they may ultimately anchor the redemption but until proven otherwise this season, he's still out surest route to goals and the club was smart to retain him even if it's until the new group finds a bearing.
as things stand, we have a lot of cover in the forward positions with players that can function in at least two positions without significant drop in quality. I think the same can be said for the back three positions. the wingback positions we will see as the season progresses and Amorim rotates in those areas. it almost seem like some fans do not want competition for places. what about the possibility of injuries??
if the club ends up signing new CMs this window, which I think the club should still chase, even moreso than GK position; great. the players want to earn their places on the pitch and competition brings out the best in everyone. we will then see if we've truly upgraded on personnel or not. He does not suit this system and if someone is offering 100m for him we should take the money and reinvest in building a more complete team. That is what Liverpool did with the Coutinho money. Those goals and assists stats from previous seasons don't move me because in this formation his job description is different. He is to protect the defence, keep possession, and help circulate the ball out of defence. The top CDMs/CMs in the world like Rodri/Caicedo/Rice/Pedri are not rated because of their G/A contributions. The fact that we signed 2 prolific no 10s and a new CF for combined 200m plus and you are still saying our CM is our surest source of goals is a big problem already. Outside free kicks and penalties G/A should not be his primary focus AND judging him by G/A is a complete missing of the point. |

akwesenana: I think Porto's valuation is significantly higher. And he has a release clause of 60m Euros. It is an opening bid. He won't go for more than 40m pounds at the end. Going into this season with Onana and Bayindir is criminal negligence. |

Oasis007:

.....unpopular opinion; I think Mount will do better as a CM. We can have both Bruno and Mount as CMs, then both Cunha and Mbeumo as 10s. Let Sesko be the striker, instead of experimenting false 9 with Cunha. We experimented Cunha as false 9 only because Sesko was not fit. Cunha and Mbeumo are the 10s. Mount and Bruno can only play together as CMs against toothless small teams. Any good team will wreck us. Playing that role takes more than just energy and running around. There are positional decisions that will not come naturally to them, and we will end up with a donut in midfield. In CM you can play Bruno OR Mount but not Bruno AND Mount. |

akwesenana: Yeah, because the direct approach leaves space behind and I don't see anyone who's a space eater abi how them dey call am pass for the squad. Anyways, I feel they'll go for another CM before window closes. I doubt if they'll get another keeper though. Yeah, it is a problem. If we don't buy a CM, Casemiro will be alternating with Ugarte for the more defensive CM while Bruno will be the other CM. Neither Casemiro nor Ugarte is ideal for that role for different reasons. Bruno is also not ideal in his role. Mainoo is probably Bruno's sub, but Bruno never gets subbed. Mainoo will lose out completely if he does not improve his work rate and stamina massively. Ultimately i think we need to buy a starting CM this season and another 1-2 CMs next season. Offload Case, Ugarte, Bruno and allow Mainoo, Kone, and other academy prospects to fight for opportunities. |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by afrodoc2: 6:30am On Aug 19, 2025 |
akwesenana: Wouldn't Ugarte be better? Ugarte can't play football. That alone should eliminate him from serious consideration. There is nobody as limited as Ugarte or with Ugarte's skill profile in the squads of Man City, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, Bayern, Barca. All our players should be decent to good on the ball. All our players should be decent to good in terms of physicality. That is the way to move the team forward. No weak links. A player whose best trait is tackling and sliding into players and worst trait is on the ball ability, has no use in a top team. I keep saying this is AWB situation all over again. Teams with perpetual EPL survival and midtable ambitions will love him. If we fix the GK issue and buy a quality CM i think we will make Top 5. If we don't i don't see us making Top 5. |

Just look at who’s standing in front of him, check Salibas height against Mounts. Nah…even though your keeper should’ve done better, allowing Saliba to freely disturb him is a big no no….abeg. CapitalCee: He had the chance to play beautiful football last season, this season is for wins and points This season is for both. We have had seasons under JM, Ole, ETH in which we did wuruwuru to the answer and made Top 4 but what we found out quickly is that it is not sustainable. It never lasted more than 1 season. This season we need wins and points. We also need markedly improved football. I would not be satisfied if he falls short on either one. |

CapitalCee: During the off season. Saudi team bid for Bruno 100m, this hideous club refused to cash in. Someone that is not suited for the Pivot role. We need to immediately go and sign a Competent GK I mean very very Competent GK. We need to also be sending players to the U21s if they refuse to go. Most of agreed at that time that we should have accepted the Saudi offer. That money pays for Baleba. My belief is that Amorim did not want to lose such a major loyalist and countryman and of course a dressing room leader. We somehow found ourselves in a situation where we have 3 goalies and none is good enough to be 1st choice. |

Going into this season with no CM improvements and the same set of hideous GKs from last season is like pouring water into a basket. An exercise in futility. If they are not buying a new GK they had better recall Vitek from his loan. |

ChristineC: exactly. I don't think Wharton adds anything this team doesn't already have asides competition for spots, which is good anyways but not the immediate issue. Wharton actually adds things we don't have in defensive midfield, namely ability to take the ball from the defenders on a half turn and then dictate play from midfield. With Wharton we would be able to pass the ball through central midfield which we currently are unable to do. This is one reason why we struggle to play out from the back. We have no progressive passer in midfield. The only issue is that i think we need the athleticism of a Baleba even more. Our midfield options are all dead. Only Mainoo has potential because he is still young and has decent technique. All the rest should actually be offloaded and replaced with players like Baleba, Wharton, Douglas Luiz etc. |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by afrodoc2: 6:21pm On Aug 15, 2025 |
TrebleChamp: They new this deal would be difficult cos of notorious Brighton, but still wasted weeks looking at the possibility. Wharton is available if Crystal Palace won't try to skin United too.... Wharton will be very expensive too. Crystal Palace are about to get loads of cash from selling Eze and Guehi, so they will be very reluctant to sell Wharton as well. I also think we need a more athletic player than Wharton right now. I would have preferred Baleba this season and then Wharton next season. Shey our scouts no get eyes ni? There must be good alternatives that we can bring in even if it is on loan. |
