It would be so funny if we brought in Griezmann and James in the summer.

I mean both players are more or less SS and while James has some good crosses on him, only a player like Ibra could work with it.

We shouldn't even think of playing James in the central midfield because first, he's very lazy and secondly, all he knows about in that position is pinging long ball all over the field which is okay when it works but tiring when it doesn't. Rooney can give a better detail.

I watched his match against granada where he played in the central midfield and he looked horrible but his 2 goals gave him a pass.
James will never work as a CM esp in the EPL but he can thrive in the 10 role just behind the CF. However like you noted as the golden boy of Colombian soccer he has been spoilt from a young age and is naturally lazy and lacking in stamina.

Rooney cutting out would really free up the wage bill and give us room to maneuver with the contract of any new super striker coming in! He needs to sort out his future quickly...we are going on a long tour to the u.s for pre season so our signings need to be done by the end of July!
Rooney surely is leaving. That frees up space on the field and the wage bill as you said. We didn't replace Shweini, Schneiderlin this season and if Zlatn leaves that is another space to fill.
LB, CB, CM, RW, CF. Nothing less than 5 players needed again, when will this wild goose change end?

I don't want Mata to go abeg...
We can't be stockpiling AMs all over the place. We need true wing forwards and pacy CFs to stretch the defence both laterally and vertically.
If JM wants 4-2-3-1 next season I would prefer Mikki and one other person to compete for that position and if James comes that person would be him leaving Mata out.
If JM wants 4-3-3 I don't think James solves our problems, however if he comes then it makes sense that it is to replace Mata.
Having said all that Mata staying won't get me too bothered AS LONG AS FELLAINI GOES.

James is also good on the right wing but as an Inside Forward or Playmaker shaa...
In that role he will drift inside, leaving the job of width and crossing to only Valencia and we know that is DOA. Also he will allow the LB and LW to combine and pummel Valencia in our half. He is a luxury player best accommodated as a 10.
We should stop stockpiling all these no 10s masquerading as wingers or wing forwards. If James comes it's only natural Mata goes.

With the potential purchase of James, what do you see in his future,

I think he wil flop. elampiro, afrodoc2, ibime nihilist a40 what do you think

Another latin player who grudgingly comes to Man Utd for a huge fee. I dont se James as someone that will be defending against a full back like Mourinho wants

I want to see how Miki, Pogba, Herrera James etc will lineup next season
James is a 10, anywhere else he becomes a liability. Very similar to Mata in my opinion but since he is younger, a little faster and shields the ball better he should be an upgrade. I am not really over the moon about it like funlord because his type tends to struggle with the physicality and speed of the EPL.
There are other more crucial positions JM needs to strengthen so I am just on siddon look mode for now.

I don't even care what the complaint is about or not about. The fact that you think yourself less of a fan because you don't live in the country to watch matches live is worrisome.
I have watched matches at Old Trafford, that does not make me more of a fan than others here. My best friend is a season's ticket holder and the guy knows that does not make him more of a fan than me.
Man Utd did not become this global powerhouse because of just those that watch at the stadium. Those that watch at the stadium have the advantage of geography, logistics, and in some cases finances NOT love or affinity for the club.
If the guy thinks he is less of a fan he should keep KWAYET while those that consider themselves fans voice their concerns.

........................Drogba..................................

I stick with the 4-3-3 because that was the most used formation in the era in question. A diamond might have gotten Ballack or Fab into the system. Robben goes in because even though it was a short stay and littered with injuries he was a difference maker when he stepped on the pitch and for Chelsea he was one of those who helped the club break its EPL duck.
That defence is beyond question the best u guys ever had, only younglings would place Azpi(who is very good still) over Ivanovic( who dominated for a long time). If Azpi plays a few more years at RB, wins a few more titles( preferably UCL) then it can be revisited.

Modric was better for Madrid than any other midfielder I will say. Kroos No he is far off

Ibime never teach them about Jodi Morris who could have been a Lampard if he met Roman too and Frank Sinclair
It was actually Roman Abramovic/Ranieri that chased Jody Morris away. i was surprised they let him go though cos his love for the jersey was apparent and he could have been a decent squad player.
Lampard was a late developer, the guy studied football and his brain took him the extra mile when he got into his 20s. His natural talent was not off the charts

Like the majority of His career, Redondo is getting underrated yet again. Kind of reminds of Xavi's situation until Spain and Barca smartly decided to build around His midfield dominance. Also another thing that counts against Him as either you or Dayo already said was that He never had the opportunity to play in a star studded Madrid team.
I dont think i am underrating him. I am rating just 2 players who won WPOTY and champions league while playing for Madrid over him.
It is those mentioning Kroos and maybe Modric that you can claim are underrating him cheesy

Modric has already spent 5yrs in Madrid. IMO if he retires today he takes the award of Madrid best midfielder of the past 30yrs

Guti was good in flashes, he has a good through pass(suru) but he wasnt dominant enough in their midfield
Guti could slide rule a pass with that his left foot no doubt. Also dont forget his incredible versatility....... CM,DM,LW,LCB,SS,CF. Name it and he would give u a decent performance.

I would say by virtue of longetivity only would I agree with chic2pimp claims. There is really only maybe Guti that can claim to have played 5 years in that midfield in his prime. Give Kroos and Modric 2 more years and they overtake Redondo IMO.
Yeah, if you followed i was also debating the issue with chic2pimp. Longevity might give the edge to Redondo (in CM/DM) but don't take it from the guy he was very good. In this era of no tackle from the back, no 2 footed challenges he would have been a boss man.
Modric maybe but not Kroos, he has been too much the junior partner of Modric for him to be rated that high.

To me I will even say Luka Modric has been Madrid best midfielder of the past 30yrs. He might not be as skilled as Zidane or Redondo but he was the most effective. Xabi Alonso didnt stay long enough

Also Helguera but he spent many years in Central defence too.

Most of Zidanes best performances were for National team and not so much for the clubs he played for
Zidane we know was the man for the big occasion especially for France but he also did play well for Madrid, just that the team was unbalanced and top heavy.

Ibime:
Redondo being greatest RM midfielder of 30 years is news to me.

That midfield was not that dominant nor consistent. They had 2 European wins but were not steamrollering teams consistently. Redondo while technically classy also struggled physically in many matches.

A bit of misty eyed revisionism if you ask me as well as Manure fans overtripping over his performance against them. Let's just say Makelele was an improvement on Redondo in DM position in 2000.

The only point I will concede is that Madrid have hardly had a long-term midfielder in the last 30 years that stayed for 5 years in the first team. So chic2pimp could be right if Guti is the main competitor or Zidane who was washed from 2003 to 2006.
The 2 Man Utd fans in the debate said he is NOT, Chic2pimp who is NOT a Man Utd fan said he is. Where did you get the over tripping statement from?
Like you said ( and i also mentioned earlier) the most talented Madrid midfielders like Schuster, Hagi, Laudrup and Seedorf of the era played just 2 or 3 years so by virtue of longevity Redondo has the edge in CM/DM.

hmm are you saying his achievement so far is by accident?
Mahrez has achieved, Jamie Vardy has achieved, Thomas Muller has achieved and even Cavani has achieved. Does not make any of them worth 100m.
Nobody is saying he is not a good player but he has neither the talent nor the mental fortitude to shoulder the burden of that price tag. Buy him for that amount and watch him struggle. From what i have seen this guy is not as good as Sanchez or Hazard as a wide man and is not as good as Lewy, Suarez, Aguero, Aubameyang e.t.c as a CF.
It is not by breaking transfer records upandan or spitting in another club's face. We said the same thing here when the Pogba deal was going on, it seems Ed Wayward is not only foolish but he also suffers from amnesia.

Not one bit.....I don't mince words. As a player, Zidane was the greater of the two however If we are to narrow it down strictly to their stints at Madrid, then Nando was the greater of the two.

Doc i'm not rating them on the entirety of their respective careers. Zidane was the greater of the two. So was Figo. I am narrowing it down to their performances in the white of Madrid. Zidane's best years was at Juve and Figo at Barca. Michel is a good shout but He did not do enough in Europe to be rated over Redondo.
Though i understand what you are saying Zidane is probably my all time no 1 so i will always be in his corner lol. It is arguable but Zidane did win a champs league and a WPOTY at Real. Even if Zidane's best years were at Juve the years he gave at Madrid are still greater than Redondo's best years IMO.
And Figo's top years were evenly split between Barca and Real, he won the WPOTY at Real after all.
If forced to choose i would say Zidane, Figo, Redondo then maybe Michel 4th.

Redondo left Madrid in 2000, So he didnt even play any part in the millenium and he left before the Galactico era started. The real Madrid of 2000 wasnt that great

They barely qualified from the group after losing home and away 8-3 aggregate to Bayern and needed a last day Roberto Carlos free kick vs Rosenborg(I think) to qualify.

They were firm underdogs vs Man Utd in the quarter and vs Bayern in the semi. I remember the 0-0 draw vs Man Utd at Bernabeu, 20mins too go boys were still betting in the TV room that Man Utd will win Madrid in Bernabeu and Madrid was just hanging on

In Old Trafford everyone believed Man utd will roast them, A Keane own goal, The redondo magic and the Raul curler. It was it was 3-0 before I could even celebrate and trust the Man Utd of those days they pulled 2 back and we all almost had heart attack

That was the great Man Utd team we all used to fear not this Adabowale and Mourinho

Redondo wanted to stay in Madrid but he was sold regardless, Moving to AC Milan in 2000 ruined his career he got injured in his first training and never fully recovered. Being a good man, he rejected his salary for the period he was injured and even some other sign on benefits

I trust Winston Bogarde
Good old Winston. Abeg Dayo it is good to educate all the Chelsea younglings shouting maga upandan. Bogarde redefined "ise kekere, owo nla" .

I had a bad feeling after that first leg ended 0-0 because we didnt get the away goal AND because we actually were unlucky not to snatch a win. The second leg was unsettled by the Madrid first goal and the imperial Redondo. Forget the Henning Berg move sef Redondo was on form in those knock out stages.

Aah yes! The intangibles of a man's life? Well we all must stand for something as young bulls...it is the way of the nomadic male! Anyway he was also a principled lawyer so he can be forgiven for acting like one! I hope you know he also grew up rich so the "I don't send anybody factor" can't be discounted!

On the other hand the dearth of knowledge regarding new fans about some of these great players is as a result of tv rights and the sort of programming that satellite tv stations are willing to put up with these days especially in naija! I participated in a sky sports online survey on monday and one of my suggestions to one of their questions was that they should think of expanding their direct tv subscription into continental markets (africa, Asia etc)! This America and jand only is not the only way to mega profits!

If man united tv, real madrid tv etc can also do the same then classic games and profiles about great players would be easier to come by for new soccer fans! ESPN classic was also a loss as well as with mutv! I'm tired of paying for telemundo! It would cost some owo as our resident sky subscribers can attest to but it would be worth it!
Yeah you have a point but not everyone has interest in stars from previous eras. That is no biggie though because each of us has different interests and passions.
I am lucky cos my top 2 interests are sports and history so it was easy for me growing up to watch not only current/live matches but hours upon hours of VHS tapes of old school footballers.....this was before the era of ESPN Classics and cable tv in Naija.
