Funlord2: Maybe you were a lot younger back then (early to mid 90's to early 2000, 2001) And by the way he played in an unfashionable position (defensive midfield) for a side that had a lot of galacticos taking the shine for their goal scoring and dribbling exploits upfield like Figo, Raul, Solari, zidane etc!
But he is respected in Spain and even in manchester! You don't spend 10 years in real Madrid's engine room if you are a mug Redondo's major problem was that he was an eccentric liberal and non-conformist. If he had allowed his international career to flourish younglings of this era would have heard more about him. |

Funlord2: Hmm....i watched too him back in uni then and I doubt if you go to their real thread and put this forth they would agree with you!
30 years is a long time! He had a sweet left foot, was technical, knew how to initiate attacks and knew how to carry water in midfield! Goal output was poor though and he was a bit of a sicknote! I'm sure zidane still gets props more than him in madrid! Legend yes, greatest of the last 30? Doubtful If you narrow it to just CM then chic2pimp is correct, i dont think there is any argument. However if you include all midfield positions then Zidane is surely ahead. Then you have to consider Figo and Michel too. Players like Laudrup and Hagi did not play long enough at Madrid to enter the discussion IMO. |

Debroslink: I watched Berg stop the attacking trio of Ronaldo, Zamorano and Roberto Baggio. I dunno another attacking trio deadlier than these @ any club back then. He was an ok defender, definitely not world class and definitely not a United legend. He was 2nd choice for most of his time at United. He initially shared space with Ronny Johnsen to partner Pallister and when Jaap Stam came in it was Stam and Johnsen with Berg as a sub. Fear God |

AIT in 2000 was a very cool station then. Haaa you people no dey fear God? Berg, Man Utd legendary defender? |

Hahaha.
I think Guti was better, especially after Redondo left. Guti was inborn galatico.
Redondo sha, that nutmeg for Raul's goal vs Man Utd was classic. You are wrong. You have a right to be wrong though. If we are talking about great and dominant CM performances in a UCL season and we mention Xavi, Redondo, Effenberg e.t.c nobody will mention Guti. |

Me I remember Anelka well cos na him goals eliminate Bayern for the CL semi that year but final? The final Morientes McManaman and Raul scored? A40: Hahaha that's a good one That guy actually has possibly the greatest potential of all the hyped teenagers right now, though he also has a high level of risk and uncertainty cos of his style. Reminds me of 04/05 when CRonaldo was a showboater without focus and my friend wanted United to sell him and keep Rooney. I told him Ronaldo will become greater than Rooney once he learnt how to be direct and efffective. Same with Dembele he either becomes Quaresma type or Ronaldo type. |

MRTA7: are you saying he hasn't failed this year so far? He's on course to finish lower than lvg in the league. His primary assignment this season was to get us into the champion's league, so he as not failed. I will rule this season a success or a failure based on what happens in the Europa League. However it is not too early to call this season a disappointment no matter what happens in Europa. |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Offical Bayern Munich Fan Thread: 6x Champions Of Europe by afrodoc2: 3:00pm On May 08, 2017 |
A40: The real difference makers are very few in the market. We are still going to have to gamble on youth from time to time since our academy has dried up and stopped producing talent. Müller is the last Bavarian left, though Alaba and Hummels are also products
It is good you mentioned Madrid. This same Madrid are the ones making playing time for Nacho, Asensio, Vazquez, Casemiro. Zidane is rotating and Ronaldo has been rested their last 4 away games. So you have to wonder why are the likes of Kimmich and Renato (Senior Intls) not getting more mins? This was the same mistake Carlo made at Madrid
Tbh I'd take Sanchez over Griezmann cos of his versatility. I strongly doubt Martial would be sold and if he was he would never go that cheap.
Nothing wrong with going for exceptional talent but we need to deliberately reduce the overall age of the squad. No need to fear, you guys will buy Ousmane Dembele in 2 years time. |

raumdeuter: Do you think there is really a big gap between Holding and Tuanzebe. Holding might be 21 but he is like the 5th defensive option for Arsenal There is in terms of age, maturity and experience. 1 had played 1 competitive senior match before today and the other was 2 years older and had played 40 matches more. Like I said the fault today lies with Mourinho and his tactics not team selection. However Axel was by far the least experienced guy on the pitch today and he did quite well against a world class player in Alexis Sanchez. |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by afrodoc2: 6:09pm On May 07, 2017 |
raumdeuter: Minus Tuanzebe which player isnt an experienced player enough
Shebi arsenal sef get Holding which will be like the equivalent of Tuanzebe I agree with you that the team selection was not to blame but JM's tactics. However Dayo you have to fear God especially on Sundays. You are comparing a 19yr old boy with only 1 competitive senior match to Rob Holding who is more than 2 years older and has played 40 more games. |

sinizia: Don't get me wrong. I'm not wailing for losing, but this sad negative mindset of defending from kickoff without being under pressure. Even we defend, it shouldn't be against an average Assanal side. Never. We keep saying the same things and some United fans just refuse to understand our line of thought. These days we park the bus against almost every decent team we face. That was the problem today not the result. We had 65 % possession after 15 minutes and had created a few chances, next thing we sat back and started inviting pressure. Against a mediocre Arsenal team low on confidence or even motivation. This man is too defensive by nature but he has to learn that this is United not a certain London club without tradition or a football culture. He had better win the Europa league now to avoid stories that touch. This season has been a disappointment and we will know if it was a success or failure based on what happens in Europa. |
